Context: As Diabetes is the most common co morbidity reported with covid-19 infection Severe acute respiratory syndrome corona virus -2 (SARA CoV-2) which brought about the ongoing pandemic gave opportunity to study the impact of diabetes on hospital stay and mortality of diabetic patients who contracted the corona virus infection. Objective: To study the duration of hospital stay and mortality rate of diabetic patients with moderate to severe covid 19 infection/severe acute respiratory illness and compare it with non diabetic patients of same disease. Method: This was a retrospective observational study in which the records of diabetic patients admitted with severe acute respiratory illness, during the ongoing pandemic, in Al Ameen Medical College Hospital were studied and were compared with the non diabetic patients admitted for the same. The duration of stay and mortality was compared statistically. No distinction was made with respect to type 1& 2 diabetes as they were clubbed together in the same group. Results: Mean duration of illness in diabetic group was 8.1 with SD of 6.9 days and in non diabetic group was 8.4 days with SD 6.5(p value= 0.8). Mortality was 32.5% among diabetics and 15.7% in non diabetics (p value= 0.001). Conclusion: Our study shows that the duration of hospital stay and mortality was considerably higher in diabetics than non diabetic counterparts. Therefore due attention should be given by general diabetic population to keep their blood glucose levels under control especially in this period of ongoing covid 19 pandemic.

These are capable of reproducing themselves and can be voluntarily recovered at the time of an intended dental procedure. Background & Objectives: Oral submucous fibrosis (OSMF) is a pre-melignant condition which results in progressive closure of the mouth. Management is predominantly in the realm of surgery. The procedure consists of releasing of all the buccal fibrotic bands followed by reconstruction of the defect. From among the various reconstructive modalities available, the nasolabial flap is the most versatile attributed to its reliable vascularity and offers itself as an attractive option for reconstruction of regional intraoral defects. In our study, we evaluate the effectiveness of the nasolabial flap in the reconstruction of the defect created after releasing of the fibrotic bands in patients with oral submucous fibrosis. Methods: 12 cases of oral submucous fibrosis who reported to the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, MIDSR, Dental College and Hospital, latur were selected in this study and treated with surgical releasing of fibrotic bands and reconstruction of the resultant defect with nasolabial flap. Results: No case of wound dehiscence or necrosis, obstruction of Stenson's duct, damage to facial artery and facial nerve branches were observed post operatively. The postoperative mouth opening was 20-40 mm (Mean: 36.416 mm) after 6 months follow up and the mean increase was 24.916 mm. The only notable complication was intraoral hair growth in some patients. Interpretation & Conclusion: The results of our study have led us to the conclusion that the nasolabial flap offers itself as an effective and predictable modality of reconstruction in cases of OSMF.

For centuries to improve dental health and to promote oral hygiene plants and plant products in various forms have been used in several communities throughout the world. ‘‘Miswak’’ is an Arabic word meaning ‘‘tooth-cleaning stick,’’ and Salvadora persica miswak has a wide geographic distribution. It was used by ancient Arabs to whiten and polish the teeth. This review article discusses the history and chemical composition of Salvadora persica miswak and its influence on oral health, including the advantages and disadvantages of its use.

Introduction: Imbalance between the aggressive and defensive factors and presence of acid- pepsin is supposed to play a major role in aetiopathogenesis of peptic ulcer disease. Recently, role of oxidative free radicals have been implicated in mediating cold-restraint stress, H.pylori, NSAID induced gastric injury. Objective: The present study was undertaken to evaluate the possible role of antioxidant bioflavonoid silymarin in acute cold- restraint stress model of gastric ulceration. Methods: Silymarin 50mg/kg was administered orally for 5 days to albino rats (n=6) on fifth day animals were subjected to cold restraint stress. After 3 hours animals were sacrificed and their stomachs were studied for adherent mucin content, and ulcer index. The results were compared with those of control (n =6) and omeprazole (n = 6) treated groups.
