Mixed alkali borosilicate glasses with 1% molybdenum trioxide impurity are successfully synthesized by melt-quench method. XRD spectra, scanning electron microscopy and EDX techniques are used to examine the microstructure of the materials. Optical absorption spectra consist of only a charge transfer band in the UV region and no characteristic bands due to unfilled d-shell is observed. Optical band energies and defect level energies are calculated from Tauc plots. Photoluminescence is observed near the blue region when the glasses are excited at 270 nm wavelength. FTIR spectra confirm the presence of network groups of BO4 tetrahedra, BO3 triangles, B-O-B linkages and vitreous silica and SiO4 tetrahedra with one NBO. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
