6. Development and characterization of a soft X-ray source using room-temperature and cryogenic liquid jets as low debris target.

Abstract

We describe the development and the characterization of a laser plasma soft X-ray source, especially for the “water-window” region. Liquid jets are used as low debris targets. To produce the jets two different nozzle-systems exist, one for room-temperature liquids and one for cryogenic liquids, respectively. The source is characterized using a slit-grating spectrograph to measure absolute photon numbers and a zone plate to determine its size. The highest measured photon numbers in single spectral lines surpass 10[sup 12] Photons sr[sup −-1] pulse[sup &minus-1] for both target systems.
