Abstract

Frustrated systems are interesting because of the associated degenerarate ground states. AlV2O4 is a typical charge frustrated system due to the multiple valency on Vanadium ion. It relieves its frustration through a structural transformation from cubic spinel to rhombohedral structure. Present work describes synthesis, structural characterization and high temperature powder XRD studies on AlV2O4. Preliminary magnetization measurements indicate deviations from Curie-Weiss behaviour indicating a possible presence of spin glass like ordering of the spins even after the charge frustration is relieved.
