Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) is a dioxin like compound persistent environmental pollution, experimental evidence suggests that PCBs alter thyroid hormone in rats & product by chlorophyll, albino rats (n: 30) were divided randomly into 3 equal groups: one of them kept as control group & given normal pellet, PCBs was given on the pellet (218 ng/ TEQ= 4 gm mixed with pellet) were given to 2
nd group for 120 day, PCBs mixed with 4 gm chlorophyll, while given alone to 3rd group. Serum samples were taken at 120 day for TSH, T3 & T4 assay & plasma PCBs analysis, thyroid samples were taken for histopathological examination. Results showed significant (P<0.05) increased in TSH, T3 & T4 at day 120 with present of serum PCBs, pathological examination showed thyroid adenoma at group 3 characterized by mitotic figure, hyperplasia, irregular follicles with solid sheet forming irregular acini, while no important lesion represented in 1st & 2nd group. In conclusion the chlorophyll showed protective effects on PCBs toxicity in thyroid gland & its hormones. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]- Published
