The effect of AE sensor positioning on the bulk ultrafine-grained materials used for sliding against steel ball has been investigated. Two versions of AE sensor positioning have been tested and showed the different attenuation levels. The experimentally obtained AE signal waveforms have been analyzed under the AE signal parameters such as a median frequency and AE energy. It was established that the AE sensor positioned on the sample supporting plate in the vicinity of the sample tested allowed redistribution of the signal energy from a low-frequency to high-frequency range as well as extending the median frequency range as compared to those obtained by mounting the sensor on the immobile sample holder. The performance of particle dampers (PDs) under centrifugal loads was investigated. A test bench consisting of a rotating cantilever beam with a particle damper at the tip was developed (D. N. J. Els, AIAA Journal 49, 2228-2238 (2011)). Equal mass containers with different depths, filled with a range of uniform-sized steel ball bearings, were used as particle dampers. The experiments were duplicated numerically with a discrete element method (DEM) model, calibrated against the experimental data. The DEM model of the rotating beam with a PD at the tip captured the performance of the PD very well over a wide range of tests with different configurations and rotation velocities. The purpose of this work is the development and verification of mathematical relationships, adapted to the package of finite element analysis LS-DYNA and describing the deformation and destruction of a titanium plate in a high-speed collision. Using data from experiments on the interaction of a steel ball with a titanium plate made of VT6 alloy, verification of the available constants necessary for describing the behavior of the material using the Johnson-Cook relationships was performed, as well as verification of the parameters of the fracture model used in the numerical modeling of the collision process. An analysis of experimental data on the interaction of a spherical impactor with a plate showed that the data accepted for VT6 alloy in the first approximation for deformation hardening in the Johnson-Cook model give too high results on the residual velocities of the impactor when piercing the plate.
