Here we use density functional theory calculations to study the impact of various spin configurations of magnetic ions on structure and properties of BiFeO3 (BFO). Low-spin and intermediate-spin electronic configurations of Fe in tetragonal BFO impact on the c/a ratio according to the way the t2g/eg orbitals are filled. The paper deals with the effect of electron irradiation on the structural and electrical properties of BiFeO3nanoparticles synthesized by standard sol-gel method. The samples were subjected to electron irradiation using a Microtron accelerator. The effects of irradiation on structural morphology viz grain size, microstrain and dislocation have been studied by X-ray diffraction (XRD). High pressure electrical resistivity measurements upto 7.5 GPa have been performed on single crystal of Bi2Se3 topological insulator to study the evolution of its transport properties. A progressive increase in pressure drives this system from metal to increasingly insulating behaviour indicating the suppression of bulk conductivity. In the pressure induced insulating regime, the resistivity exhibits two step increase which is separated by a shoulder. The shoulder temperature is seen to increases with pressure. We report the dielectric and magnetic properties of BiFeO3 (BFO) multiferroic synthesized by modified sol-gel route. Frequency dependent dielectric constant and loss studies show higher value at lower frequencies while temperature dependent dielectric behaviour show higher value of dielectric constant above 250 K. Low magnetization value is exhibited by the BFO sample studied. DTA study shows the phase transition at 340° C and 816° C. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
