The properties of the crust of a neutron star can be significantly altered by the presence of a high magnetic field. The effects of Rabi quantization of electron motion on the equation of state and on the composition of the crust are studied. Both the outer and inner regions are described in a unified and consistent way by extending the neutron-star crust models developed by the Brussels-Montreal collaboration. In this paper we discuss tachyon scalar field with constraints in the cosmological context. The tachyon field is described by a Dirac-Born-Infeld (DBI) type action. In the paper the coordinated flight of an autonomously controlled group of UAVs is considered. In the system, the position information exchange between the separate group agents for keeping the formation shape and fulfillment the prescribed flight mission is organized. Data transferring quality, as one of the most important navigation problems, is discussed. In the case when the high bandwith for navigation data transferring can not be ensured, it is possible to implement the adaptive coding procedure based on the adaptive adjustment of quantization range and employing the embedded state estimator. Moreover, due to a lack of the GNSS navigation continuity, reducing the position estimation errors is a topical problem. The proposed novel adaptive coding procedure can be used, ensuring the necessary data rate close to the minimal possible bound. Application of the proposed adaptive binary coder to the transferring navigation data between the quadrocopters is studied in the details. A novel adaptive coding procedure makes possible to improve data transferring quality through the more accurate estimation process. Such a property is achieved by means of the varying coder quantization level. As is shown by the simulations, the habitual adaptive coding procedure has lower accuracy, which can have a critical meaning for UAV formation control. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Two strongly related theorems on non-degenerate ground state electron densities serve as the basis of "Molecular Informatics". The Hohenberg-Kohn theorem is a statement on global molecular information, ensuring that the complete electron density contains the complete molecular information. However, the Holographic Electron Density Theorem states more: the local information present in each and every positive volume density fragment is already complete: the information in the fragment is equivalent to the complete molecular information. In other words, the complete molecular information provided by the Hohenberg-Kohn Theorem is already provided, in full, by any positive volume, otherwise arbitrarily small electron density fragment. In this contribution some of the consequences of the Holographic Electron Density Theorem are discussed within the framework of the "Nuclear Charge Space" and the Universal Molecule Model. In the Nuclear Charge Space" the nuclear charges are regarded as continuous variables, and in the more general Universal Molecule Model some other quantized parameteres are also allowed to become "dequantized and then re-quantized, leading to interrelations among real molecules through abstract molecules. We present estimators of the dimension of the support of a probability distribution. These estimators are derived from the concept of quantization dimension. For the general case consistency results are discussed. Versions of the estimators may be applied for instance to estimate the dimension of the driving Brownian motion of Itô processes. A simple experimental setup for measuring the Planck's constant which is using Landauer quantization of the conductance of touching golden wires is described. It is consisted of two golden wires with thickness of 500 μm and 1:5 cm length, and a fast operational amplifier. Abelian gauge fixing procedure is used to create the SU(4) magnetic monopoles in the vicinity of the points where the gluon field becomes singular. The matrix of the scalar field is considered as almost diagonal in the SU(2) and SU(3) subspaces. The gauge transformation which diagonalizes the hedgehog filed, transforms the gluon field into two regular and singular parts. In this paper one deals with the quantization of mesoscopic LC-circuits under the influence of an external time dependent voltage. The canonically conjugated variables, such as given by the electric charge and the magnetic flux get established by resorting to the hamiltonian equations of motion. This time the discretization of the electric charge is accounted for by working in combination with both right-hand and left-hand discrete derivatives. This results in the onset of related magnetic flux operators. Besides the discrete Schrödinger equation with nearest-neighbor hoppings, a nontrivial next nearest neighbor generalization has also been established. Handling the time dependent voltage within the nearest neighbor description opens the way to the derivation of dynamic localization effects in terms of the approach discussed before by Dunlap and Kenkre, L-ring configurations included. Vibration-based structural health monitoring (SHM) techniques require modal information from the monitored structure in order to estimate the location and severity of damage. Natural frequencies also provide useful information to calibrate finite element models. There are several types of physical sensors that can measure the response over a range of frequencies. For most of those sensors however, accessibility, limitation of measurement points, wiring, and high system cost represent major challenges. Recent optical sensing approaches offer advantages such as easy access to visible areas, distributed sensing capabilities, and comparatively inexpensive data recording while having no wiring issues. In this research we propose a novel methodology to measure natural frequencies of structures using digital video cameras based on virtual visual sensors (VVS). In our initial study where we worked with commercially available inexpensive digital video cameras we found that for multiple degrees of freedom systems it is difficult to detect all of the natural frequencies simultaneously due to low quantization resolution. In this study we show how oversampling enabled by the use of highend high-frame-rate video cameras enable recovering all of the three natural frequencies from a three story lab-scale structure. Entropie Dynamics is an information-based framework that seeks to derive the laws of physics as an application of the methods of entropic inference. The dynamics is derived by maximizing an entropy subject to constraints that represent the physically relevant information that the motion is continuous and non-dissipative. Here we focus on the quantum theory of scalar fields. We provide an entropic derivation of Hamiltonian dynamics and using concepts from information geometry derive the standard quantum field theory in the Schrödinger representation. The present paper analyzes the morphogenesis of gravitational structures, assuming that dynamics of a test particle in a gravitational field takes place on continuous but non-differentiable curves. The dynamics of such gravitational system is described by an equation for a complex speed that characterizes its rheological behavior. Moreover, the separation of movements on interaction scales in the dynamics equation implies a non-differentiable hydrodynamical model. Finally, such an approach was applied both to one and two body problems and, via numerical simulation, to the morphogenesis of gravitational structures. Consequently, quantization at intragalactic (Solar System) and extragalactic scales (Tifft's effect) as well as certain modifications of Newton's force occur. We study the approach to gravity in which our curved spacetime is considered as a surface in a flat ambient space of higher dimension (the embedding theory). The dynamical variable in this theory is not a metric but an embedding function. The Euler-Lagrange equations for this theory (Regge-Teitelboim equations) are more general than the Einstein equations, and admit "extra solutions" which do not correspond to any Einsteinian metric. The Regge-Teitelboim equations can be explicitly analyzed for the solutions with high symmetry. We show that symmetric embeddings of a static spherically symmetric asymptotically flat metrics in a 6-dimensional ambient space do not admit extra solutions of the vacuum Regge-Teitelboim equations. We overview a new type of supersymmetric quantum mechanics models based on the worldline realizations of the supergroup SU(2|1). Our main focus is on the models associated with the chiral multiplets (2,4,2). Considering two nonequivalent deformations of the standard N = 4, d = 1 superspace, we define the relevant chiral superfields and construct their SU(2|1) invariant actions. We give off- and on-shell descriptions of these models and perform their quantization. The basic peculiarities of such models and interrelations between them are briefly discussed. We report quantised conductance in Au/Ta2O5/Pt structures grown by pulsed laser deposition. Quantum conduction phenomenon was observed during reset switching event of resistive switching in tantalum oxide (Ta2O5) thin films. Nonvolatile and repeatable electric field controlled unipolar resistive switching was clearly seen in Au/Ta2O5/Pt structures with good endurance. The quantum conduction phenomenon has been attributed to formation of nanometer scale conducting filaments which constraints the motion of electron in transverse direction resulting in quantisation of device conductance in half integer multiple of fundamental unit of conductance G0 (2e²/h). In this lecture course I outline a simple paradigm of non-eqjuilibrium quantum statistical physics, namely we shall study quantum lattice systems with local, Hamiltonian (conservative) interactions which are coupled to the environment via incoherent processes only at the system's boundaries. This is arguably the simplest nontrivial context where one can study far from equilibrium steady states and their transport properties. We shall formulate the problem in terms of a many-body Markovian master equation (the so-called Lindblad equation, and some of its extensions, e.g. the Redfield eqaution). The lecture course consists of two main parts: Firstly, and most extensively we shall present canonical Liouville-space many-body formalism, the so-called 'third quantization' and show how it can be implemented to solve bi-linear open many-particle problems, the key peradigmatic examples being the XY spin 1/2 chains or quasi-free bosonic (or harmonic) chains. Secondly, we shall outline several recent approaches on how to approach exactly solvable open quantum interacting many-body problems, such as anisotropic Heisenberg (XXZ) spin chain or fermionic Hubbard chain. The basics of precanonical quantization and its relation to the functional Schro¨dinger picture in QFT are briefly outlined. The approach is then applied to quantization of Einstein's gravity in vielbein and spin connection variables and leads to a quantum dynamics described by the covariant Schro¨dinger equation for the transition amplitudes on the bundle of spin connection coefficients over space-time, that yields a novel quantum description of space-time geometry. We study the notion of weak value of a quantum observable introduced by Aharonov from the point of view of the Born-Jordan quantization scheme. While both quantizations agree for observables of the type "kinetic energy plus potential" they lead to different weak values for general quantum observables. Quantization of different regions of the Reissner-Nordstro¨m space time (charged black hole) is done in the framework of loop quantum gravity. The geometry of Reissner-Nordstro¨m space-time is expressed in terms of Ashtekar variables which form the classical phase space of such a black hole. Using the loop quantization of phase space, the issue of singularity avoidance of such a black hole is addressed; based on spherically symmetry reduced models of loop quantum gravity, the operator analogue of the diverging factor of scalar curvature of the charged black hole is constructed and is shown to exhibit an upper bounded spectrum. This local criterion, together with the global one (non-singular quantum evolution equation) proves the avoidance of charged black hole singularity in symmetry reduced models of loop quantum gravity. This paper gives a detailed derivation of the classical electromagnetic modes of a layered circularly symmetrical dielectric waveguide. The corresponding Hamilton function is derived by using suitable canonical observables and the standard analogy to the classical harmonic oscillator. The derivation is generic in the sense that it can be used as an "algorithm" to compute the electromagnetic field of the waveguide. The associated Hamilton operator can then be obtained by using the standard quantization procedure where the canonical observables are replaced by the corresponding operators i.e., the creation and the annihilation operators of the photon (or equivalently, the position and the momentum operators of the harmonic oscillator) and by taking the appropriate commutation relations into account. It is shown that the non-terminating expansions of the wave function within the variational coupled cluster singles (VCCS) can be exactly treated by summing up the one-particle density matrix elements in the occupied block using simple recurrence relation. At the same time, this leads to an extremely simple 'a priori' diagonalization free algorithm for the solution of the Hartree-Fock equations. This treatment corresponds to a non-unitary transformation of orbitals, however, preserving the norm and idempotency of the density matrix. The resulting algorithm enables a Hartree-Fock solution with 'a priori' localized orbitals. Similar approach can be applied within the Kohn-Sham theory. Analysis of the VCCS expansion in terms of the generalized perturbation theory is also presented. We investigate classically spinning topological solitons in (2+1)- and (3+1)-dimensional models; more explicitely spinning sigma model solitons in 2+1 dimensions and Skyrme solitons in 2+1 and 3+1 dimensions. For example, such types of solitons can be used to describe quasiparticle excitations in ferromagnetic quantum Hall systems or to model spin and isospin states of nuclei. The standard way to obtain solitons with quantised spin and isospin is the semiclassical quantization procedure: One parametrizes the zero-mode space - the space of energy-degenerate soliton configurations generated from a single soliton by spatial translations and rotations in space and isospace - by collective coordinates which are then taken to be time-dependent. This gives rise to additional dynamical terms in the Hamiltonian which can then be quantized following semiclassical quantization rules. A simplification which is often made in the literature is to apply a simple adiabatic approximation to the (iso)rotational zero modes of the soliton by assuming that the soliton's shape is rotational frequency independent. Our numerical results on classically spinning arbitrarily deforming soliton solutions clearly show that soliton deformation cannot be ignored. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this work is considered a complex scalar field theory with higher order derivative terms and interactions. A procedure is developed to quantize consistently this system avoiding the presence of negative norm states. In order to achieve this goal the original real scalar high order field theory is extended to a complex space attaching a complex total derivative to the theory. Next, by imposing reality conditions the complex theory is mapped to a pair of interacting real scalar field theories without the presence of higher derivative terms. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The study of the behavior of quantum fields at very high energies, possibly at the Planck scale, is an open problem today. Recent attempts by Hossain et al [1] explore a polymer quantized scalar field in which the canonical algebra of the tower of oscillators making up the field is replaced by the polymer one, inspired in loop quantum gravity [2]. A smoking gun of such a quantization appears in the form of deformed dispersion relations at very high energies and hence in the corresponding propagator. In this work we provide some steps towards the generalization of these results to a Dirac field. In particular we use a Fourier decomposition to look for the analogue of the oscillators of the scalar field. It turns out the corresponding energy spectrum can be intepreted as containing for each mode the contribution of four Fermi oscillators. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Polymer quantum systems are quantum mechanical models quantized in a similar way as loop quantum gravity. These systems have allowed a more simple study of some characteristics of loop quantization including some thermal aspects. In this work we study the thermostatistics of an ensemble of one-dimensional hydrogen atoms in a Bohr-like polymer quantization. We obtain a modification of the heat capacity due to the polymer length scale. We also study the corresponding polymer modification of the ionization fraction of hydrogen in the recombination. A complete quantization of a homogeneous and isotropic spacetime with closed spatial sections coupled to a massive scalar field is provided, within the framework of Loop Quantum Cosmology. We identify solutions with their initial data on the minimum volume section, and from this we construct the physical Hilbert space. Moreover, a perturbative study allows us to introduce small inhomogeneities. After gauge fixing, the inhomogeneous part of the system is reduced to a linear field theory. We then adopt a standard Fock representation to quantize these degrees of freedom. For the considered case of compact spatial topology, the requirements of: i) invariance under the spatial isometries, and ii) unitary implementation of the quantum dynamics, pick up a unique Fock representation and a particular set of canonical fields (up to unitary equivalence). Some quantum-cosmic scaling relations indicate that the MOND acceleration parameter a0 could be a fundamental quantity ruling the self-gravitating structures, ranging from globular clusters up to clusters of galaxies and the whole observed universe. Starting with the example of a five-fold frame for the plane (e.g. sea star), we explain the powerful role that coherent states (CS) or frames can play in quantizing any set equipped with a measure. This CS quantization is illustrated with the standard case involving Glauber CS and yielding the canonical quantization, and with CS on the circle, leading in particular to quantization of action and angle variables. We propose to construct the off-shell nilpotent BRST and anti-BRST transformations in four dimensional N = 1 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory in terms of a BRST superspace formalism. The method is based on the possibility of introducing auxiliary fields through the supersym-metric transformations of the superpartener of the gauge potential associated to a supersymmetric Yang-Mills connection. These fields are required to achieve the off-shell nilpotency of the BRST and anti-BRST operators. One of the most basic tasks in quantum information processing, communication and security (QIPCC) research, theoretically deep and practically important, is to find bounds on how really important are inherently quantum resources for speeding up computations. This area of research is bringing a variety of results that imply, often in a very unexpected and counter-intuitive way, that: (a) surprisingly large classes of quantum circuits and algorithms can be efficiently simulated on classical computers; (b) the border line between quantum processes that can and cannot be efficiently simulated on classical computers is often surprisingly thin; (c) the addition of a seemingly very simple resource or a tool often enormously increases the power of available quantum tools. These discoveries have put also a new light on our understanding of quantum phenomena and quantum physics and on the potential of its inherently quantum and often mysteriously looking phenomena. The paper motivates and surveys research and its outcomes in the area of de-quantisation, especially presents various approaches and their outcomes concerning efficient classical simulations of various families of quantum circuits and algorithms. Critical current of the superconductor is one of the important quantities determining the quality of the superconductor. Many efforts have been done to enhance this quantity including the use of holes in different form of lattices fabricated on the superconductor. In the enhancement of critical current using such holes, it is usually understood that the enhancement process is due to the commensurate effect between flux quantization with the structure of the lattice hole. However, there is another explanation that the enhancement is caused rather by the vortex-hole interaction compared to such an effect. To review this, we investigate the phenomena at superconductor having holes and slit to see the roles of those structure in increasing the pinning force responsible for the critical current enhancement. The investigation was done numerically through the calculation of vortices dynamics using time dependent Ginzburg-Landau equation on the superconductor exposed under electric current and magnetic field. To account the effect of the boundary, the holes and the slits are accompanied by de Gennes boundary condition. The result supports the explanation that the enhancement of the critical current caused by the addition of an array of hole or slit is due to the interaction of vortex and hole or slit. The result also indicates that the use of a negative de Gennes extrapolation length at the superconductor boundary enhancing the critical current higher than the use of superconductor-vacuum. The 3+1 (canonical) decomposition of all geometries admitting two-dimensional spacelike surfaces is exhibited as a generalization of a previous work. A proposal, consisting of a specific re-normalization Assumption and an accompanying Requirement, which has been put forward in the 2+1 case is now generalized to 3+1 dimensions. This enables the canonical quantization of these geometries through a generalization of Kucharˇ's quantization scheme in the case of infinite degrees of freedom. The resulting Wheeler-deWitt equation is based on a re-normalized manifold parameterized by three smooth scalar functionals. The entire space of solutions to this equation is analytically given, a fact that is entirely new to the present case. We study uncertainty relations as formulated in a crystal-like universe, whose lattice spacing is of order of Planck length. For Planck energies, the uncertainty relation for position and momenta has a lower bound equal to zero. Connections of this result with double special relativity, and with't Hooft's deterministic quantization proposal, are briefly pointed out. We then apply our formulae to micro black holes, and we derive a new mass-temperature relation for Schwarzschild (micro) black holes. In contrast to standard results based on Heisenberg and stringy uncertainty relations, we obtain both a finite Hawking's temperature and a zero rest-mass remnant at the end of the micro black hole evaporation. This paper presents the theoretical and numerical analyses of the propagation characteristics of the longitudinal modes excited by the point source in the three-layered cylindrical ultrasonic transmission rod model. The phase velocity and group velocity dispersion curves, and displacement distributions of the Stoneley mode and the quantized Stoneley mode segments are numerically simulated. The results show that the quantized Stoneley mode segments are analogous to the non-dispersive Stoneley wave propagating along the second cylindrical interface. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We study the exact solution of the lambda, vee and cascade type of three-level system with distinct Hamiltonian for each configuration expressed in the SU (3) basis. The semiclassical models are solved by solving respective Bloch equation and the existence of distinct non-linear constants are discussed which are different for different configuration. Apart from proposing a qutrit wave function, the atom-field entanglement is studied for the quantized three-level systems using the Phoenix-Knight formalism and corresponding population inversion are compared. We study the one dimensional β-Fermi Pasta Ulam lattice of N particles with quadratic and quartic interaction potential. Applying periodic boundary condition and considering only nearest neighbour interaction, we quantize the nonlinear normal modes and construct a wavefunction for what we believe is a primitive nonlinear analogue of a "phonon". We present a canonical quantization of macroscopic electrodynamics. The results apply to inhomogeneous media with a broad class of linear magneto-electric responses which are consistent with the Kramers-Kronig and Onsager relations. Through its ability to accommodate strong dispersion and loss, our theory provides a rigorous foundation for the study of quantum optical processes in structures incorporating metamaterials, provided these may be modeled as magneto-electric media. Here we present our results in a mode expansion picture with a view to applications in guided wave and cavity quantum optics.
