HIV prevalence is high among transgender women, but little is known about cisgender men who have sex with transgender women (MSTW). The objective of this study was to investigate characteristics and behavior of MSTW compared to transgender women and men who have sex with men (MSM) using a modified respondent-driven sampling design. Seed participants completed a survey and invited up to three sex partners. Forward recruitment continued in waves through the referral of sex partners. HIV incidence remains high among US youth, especially among sexual minority youth. However, only half of youth with HIV are aware of their status. One potential explanation for low HIV testing rates is that restrictive policies may prevent minors from access HIV testing due to parental consent requirements. Using pooled data from the local Youth Risk Behavior Survey, we assessed whether state HIV testing laws, including age restrictions and explicit inclusion of HIV in STI testing consent laws, were associated with differences in HIV testing rates; differences by sexual behavior were also examined. Among female youth, policies were not associated with HIV testing. However, among male youth, both the presence of age restrictions and explicit inclusion in STI services were significantly associated with increased odds of HIV testing. Results indicate that policy changes may be effective at increasing testing among male youth who have sex with other males.

This study aimed to examine intimate partner violence (IPV) as it relates to both partners' perceptions of IPV and sexual behaviors, considering how their IPV might be interdependent within the relationship dynamics. The sample consisted of 713 female-male dyads in which women were pregnant and living with HIV in rural South Africa. Using an actor-partner interdependence model (APIM), we examined the interdependent influence of psychological and physical IPV on men by their female partners and psychological and physical IPV on women by their male partners on sexual risk behavior. The APIM model found there were no actor (b = -0.06, SE = 0.05, p = .221) or partner (b = -1.2, SE = 0.06

Aspects of the physical and social environment play an important role in shaping HIV-related risk/prevention behaviors and access to prevention and treatment services. Here, we describe the feasibility of integrating a web-based survey application to collect risk locations into Qualtrics and compare this approach with a JavaScript-based alternative. Between 2017 and 2018, we enrolled 29 persons living with HIV in Boston Massachusetts to complete an interviewer-administered questionnaire using Qualtrics. Surveys collected demographics; sex/drug use risk behaviors; locations where participants met sex partners, had condomless sex, attended group sex events, and shared a syringe or injection equipment with someone else (up to 10 locations each); and the locations where participants (a) had sex with each sex partner (past 6 months) and (b) used drugs with each drug use partner (past 6 months). Location data were collected using embedded links to an encrypted web-based survey application. Overall, participants provided valid coordinates 93% of the time; when an exact location was not provided, a neighborhood was provided instead, resulting in little missing data. Our findings suggest that this web-based data collection tool (alone or with embedded links in Qualtrics) is a feasible and secure option for collecting risk location data.

Youth at-risk for HIV are also at-risk for mental health disorders and psychiatric hospitalization. Understanding the association between engagement in HIV prevention, concurrent risk behaviors, and psychiatric hospitalization may lead to improvements in integrated prevention and mental health treatment efforts. Youth at-risk for HIV, aged 14-24 years old, predominantly Black/African American and Latinx (75%) were recruited through youth-serving clinics and community sites in Los Angeles (n = 839) and New Orleans (n = 647). We compared youth with and without histories of psychiatric hospitalization on engagement in HIV prevention, concurrent risk behaviors, and demographic characteristics. We examined predictors of hospitalization using multiple imputations for missing data. Hospitalized youth (30%) were more involved in HIV programs, but were less likely to use PrEP/PEP or condoms than non-hospitalized youth. The odds of hospitalization were higher for transgender/gender nonconforming youth relative to cisgender youth; the OR was increased after adjustment for concurrent risk behaviors. Hospitalization was associated with homelessness, trauma, incarceration, substance use, and involvement in substance abuse treatment programs. There is a continuing need to integrate the diagnosis and treatment of mental health disorders into HIV prevention programs to better address multiple challenges faced by vulnerable youth.

Many adolescents and young adults (AYAs; ages 13 – 24) are unaware of their HIV status despite participating in behavior that places them at risk for contracting HIV. This study examined possible predictors of self-reported HIV testing for high school students (grades 9 to 12) who completed the Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS). Three sex-stratified, stepwise multivariable logistic models were used to estimate odds of having received a HIV test being associated with student characteristics and substance use. The likelihood of being tested for HIV was associated with students who were a racial/ethnic minority and age 18 and older. HIV testing was also associated with male students who reported same sex partners (males) or same sex partners (males) and different sex partners (females). Female students who reported same sex partners (females) and different sex partners (males) were more likely to have been tested for HIV. Male and female students were more likely to have been tested for HIV if they reported illicit drug and/or marijuana use, while prescription drug use was also associated with HIV testing for female students. Knowledge of the predictors of HIV testing for adolescents can guide efforts for the effective scale up of testing for this vulnerable population.

Executive function (EF) may predict sexual risk-taking and HIV risk in young women in rural South Africa. We tested associations between EF and seven risky behavioural outcomes: binge drinking, illicit substance use, unprotected vaginal sex, concurrent sexual relationships, transactional sex, herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2) inafection, and HIV infection. We compared EF in young women with HIV to matched controls. 1080 young women underwent cognitive assessments. Better verbal short-term memory was associated with a lower risk of HSV-2 (OR 0.77; 95% CI 0.69, 0.86; p < 0.001). Uncorrected trends (p < 0.05) were better verbal working memory being associated with a lower risk of concurrency, better planning with a lower risk of illicit drug use, and better affective inhibition with a lower risk of transactional sex. 78 participants with sexually acquired HIV were matched with 153 HIV-negative controls and had poorer verbal working memory than controls (Hedge’s g = −0.38; 95% CI −0.66, −0.10; p = 0.0076), but this was non-significant after adjustment. EF’s contribution to young women’s risky behaviour in this context does not hold when stringent statistical corrections are applied, with only verbal short term memory reaching statistical significance as predictor. Replication in other samples is recommended.

Many studies have shown the HIV vulnerability of people with disabilities (PWD). This vulnerability is supported by risky sexual behaviours, which need to be well described. The objective of this study is to identify predictors of sexual behaviours at risk of HIV infection among PWD in Burkina Faso. We conducted a population-based cross-sectional study on disability and HIV in four regions in Burkina Faso. PWD were selected through a probabilistic method. The Washington Group Short questionnaire was used to identify PWD. Five sexual risk behaviours were considered in this analysis (having multiple sex partners, starting sex at an early age, having had sex with a nonregular partner, sex in return for payment and condomless sex). A composite variable was created and called "risky sexual behaviour (RSB)", which was defined in three categories (low risk, moderate risk and high risk) based on the co-occurrence of the individual sexual risk behaviours. Generalized structural equation was used to identify the predictors of RSB withincome possession as a mediator. A total of 973 PWD were included in this study. The proportion of PWD who were engaged in at least two risky sexual behaviours was 9.5% (95%CI: 6.5-13.8), those with one risky sexual behaviour represented 42.8% (95%CI: 39.4-46.3) and less than half ( 47.7% (95%CI: 43.3-52.1)) werenot engaged in risky sexual behaviour. The prevalence of HIV increased with the level of risky sexual behaviour. Age, education level and type of disability have a significant direct effect on RSB. Indeed, the oddof engaging in sexual risk behaviour was low among PWD who attended at least secondary school compared to those who were not schooled (adjusted odds ratio (aOR): 0.62 (95%CI: 0.41-0.92). The indirect effect of sex on RSB mediating by income possession was significant. Indeed, women with income have a low oddof engaging in RSB compared to men (aOR: 0.83 [95%CI: 0.71-0.98]). Our results confirm a certain ambivalence in the sexuality of people with disabilities. Hence, there is a need for a particular focus on risky sexual behaviour to enable the development of an effective HIV strategy in this group.

This study used a Social network analysis (SNA) approach to describe HIV transmission and venue affiliations among social and sexual networks of young men who have sex with men (YMSM) in Houston, TX.A total of 34 YMSM indices aged 18-23 years and 23 of their network members were interviewed about their social and sexual networks and venues at which they met and spent time.Participants reported information on 220 friends (mean age = 25.3 years) and 112 sexual partners (mean age = 26.3 years). Participants spent time with friends and sexual partners at similar venues but relied more heavily on social media and dating applications to meet sexual partners. Participants lived in zip codes consistent with high concentrations of HIV positivity. Popularly frequented clubs/gay bars were often 10-20 miles away, also in zip codes with high densities of seropositivity.Both friendship and sexual networks are large, diffuse, and not limited by geography. Participants came from areas with high rates of HIV/AIDS. The venues at which participants recruited sexual partners may present increased opportunities for HIV transmission. HIV prevention interventions should focus on the heightened risk of unknown HIV serostatus.

This study examined associations between the prevalence of HIV testing and factors or behaviors that influence HIV testing in U.S.A. 9th to 12th graders using the 2017 Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance Survey (YRBSS) data. Selection criteria was based on a positive report of sexual debut (Ever had sex? Yes/No). Outcome of interest was having ever tested for HIV. Independent risk factors included age, sex, grade, race, condom use, age at first sexual intercourse, number of lifetime sexual partners, use of contraceptives, use of drug or alcohol before last sexual activity and several other factors. Chi-square and logistic regression analyses were conducted to evaluate factors associated with HIV screening participation. HIV testing prevalence was 20.34%. Females (53.97%) were more likely to participate in HIV screening test than males (67.37% females versus 32.63% males) and had higher odds of testing (OR: 2.229

Towards the elimination of this global epidemic, understanding the high-risk behaviors of people newly diagnosed with HIV/AIDS (PNDWH) is essential. This study aimed to describe the general characteristics and high-risk behaviors of PNDWH and identify associated factors for adopting high-risk behaviors. A cross-sectional survey was conducted in Vietnam to explore the high-risk behaviors of 506 PNDWH. Associated factors were identified using multivariable logistic regressions. 83.2% of participants had sex without using a condom, and 27.9% had more than two sex partners. Among injected drug users, 44% had shared needles with an average number of 2.1 shared partners. Male, Kinh ethnicity (Vietnamese), high income, and high educational level were risk factors for high-risk behaviors. Our findings revealed the first time a comprehensive picture of PNDWH and emphasized the high prevalence of STIs, including untreated STIs and the long delay since the early HIV diagnosis. Also, our model found much higher risk behaviors among participants who were non-adherent to ART and those currently enrolled in ART. By better managing newly-diagnosed cases, better integrating STI management services and prevention consultants, as well as improving ART adherence programs, Vietnam can make better progress towards the complete control of HIV for its most vulnerable populations.

Men who have sex with men (MSM) in Thailand have high HIV prevalence. This analysis used three years of data from the Behavioral Surveillance Survey (BSS) to examine the behaviors and biomedical interventions among MSM in Bangkok. Percent MSM with an HIV or STI test in the past 12 months decreased from 50.8% to 29.8%, and 42.2% to 33.0%, respectively. The frequency of HIV/STI testing was higher among those who had university-level education, as well as among those who reported higher AIDS knowledge, and had utilized prevention services. Additionally, awareness of PrEP peaked in 2017 (74.1%). The study found an increasing trend of men who had sex without a condom the last time they had anal sex with a man, and/or with multiple partners. Nearly two-thirds of the sample were reached by HIV prevention interventions. One-third had correct AIDS knowledge. These findings suggest that, after an increase of sex behavior risk, a decrease in PrEP awareness, and unknown HIV status, HIV prevalence among MSM in Bangkok may have begun to increase again. Intensified prevention interventions are urgently needed to reduce HIV behavioral risk for MSM since that is a major driver of the HIV epidemic in Thailand.

Electronic Patient Reported Outcomes (PROs), which consist of questionnaires administered directly to patients via handheld device or computer, allow for the routine and systematic capture of sensitive domains as well as longitudinal data on functional status, symptom severity, and physical and psychological well-being. There have been few examples of PROs in HIV care in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) and none in India. We conducted a study to assess the feasibility and acceptability of PROs at the Y.R. Gaitonde Centre for AIDS Research and Education in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. We adapted an adherence and psychosocial questionnaire into an electronic PRO format and administered it to a convenience sample of 50 participants. Almost all participants indicated that the PRO questionnaire was easy to complete and understand (96%). Men who have sex with men (MSM) in China, who live in a stigmatizing environment, experience high risk of HIV infection. Recently, internet has become a popular platform for MSM in China to socialize and meet sex partners. However, little is known about how MSM socialization and stigma may associate with sexual risk behaviors among MSM in China. This cross-sectional study examined a sample of sexually active Chinese MSM recruited online (N=403) to determine the associations of MSM social life (both online and in-person) and sexual identity stigma with three types of sexual risk behaviors in the past 12 months, including condom use%, number of anal intercourse partners, and number of partners engaged in condomless anal intercourse (CAI). Hierarchical regression analyses were conducted. Findings suggest that internet was a popular platform for participants to socialize and meet sex partners (69.7% met last partner via website or mobile app). More frequent use of social media was associated with higher numbers of anal intercourse partners as well as more condom use in past 12 months, but not number of CAI partners. More active in-person MSM social life was associated with higher numbers of partners in anal intercourse as well as CAI. Both perceived and enacted sexual identity stigma associated with higher numbers of CAI partners; perceived stigma was also linked to less condom use. In conclusion, social life and minority stress are relevant factors of sexual risk among MSM in China in the uptrend of internet use. The internet may be an important and promising platform for HIV prevention, and intervention efforts should consider online-based designs to promote safe sex and reduce sexual minority stigma.

African American women in the Southern United States have disproportionately high HIV infection rates, and increasing HIV testing is a prevention priority in communities of color. Research suggests that optimal conditions for promoting testing involve reaching out to community members and offering free tests in private, supportive contexts with minimal delays to receiving results. These conditions were implemented with young African American women (N = 223, M age = 20.4 years) living in disadvantaged areas of a Southern U.S. city to identify participant characteristics associated with declining and accepting testing in this low threshold context. Participants were recruited using Respondent Driven Sampling, a peer-driven method useful for recruiting young adults in community settings. Structured field interviews assessed personal and social network characteristics, sexual practices, substance use, and behavioral impulsivity (assessed by a delay discounting task). A free HIV test was then offered. Participants were free to accept or decline testing, which was the outcome variable. Testing was accepted by 69%, which exceeded the national lifetime test rate for this population by 7.4% (p < .05). All were sero-negative. Test refusal (31%) was associated with poorer educational performance, higher delay discounting rates indicative of greater impulsivity, less social network encouragement to use birth control (ps < .05), and lower engagement in sexual risk behaviors (p < .10). Substance involvement did not differ as a function of test choice. Thus, low threshold community testing promoted acceptance among the majority of the priority population, but a sizeable minority with specific characteristics likely need additional incentives to fulfill the prevention potential of “know your status” through HIV testing.

It is estimated that 23% of the adults and adolescents living with HIV in the United States are female. The Division of HIV/AIDS Prevention at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) funds evidence-based interventions (EBIs) to reduce HIV risk behaviors, including HIV prevention programs for people living with HIV and their partners. While EBIs have been shown to be effective in controlled research environments, there are limited data on intervention implementation in real-world settings. Women Involved in Life Learning from Other Women (WILLOW) is a four-session small-group intervention that targets heterosexual women aged 18-50 who are living with HIV. This evaluation assessed changes in participants' HIV knowledge, attitudes, beliefs and risk behaviors. A repeated measures design was used to collect participant risk behaviors at baseline, and again at three and six months post-intervention. Changes in attitudes, beliefs, and risk behaviors were assessed using generalized estimating equations. After participation in WILLOW, participants reported increased HIV knowledge, attitudes and beliefs, being more supportive of condom use, and reduced prevalence of HIV risk behaviors. Findings suggest that the WILLOW intervention can be successfully delivered by community-based organizations to reduce HIV risk behaviors among members of this high-risk population.

Evidence-based guidelines in HIV care aim to improve patients’ health outcomes, quality of care, and cost-effectiveness. Laboratory monitoring plays an important role in assessing clinical status of patients and forms an integral part of HIV treatment guidelines. The Dutch HIV monitoring foundation (Stichting HIV Monitoring) previously observed variation between HIV treatment centres in the Netherlands in terms of compliance with guidelines for performing laboratory tests. Drawing on qualitative research methods, this article aimswe aimed to describe factors that influence guideline compliance for laboratory monitoring in outpatient HIV care in the Netherlands. Twelve semi-structured in-depth interviews were conducted with a convenience sample of physicians from four HIV treatment centres. In general, physicians perceived laboratory guidelines as useful. However, unclear online visual representation of the guidelines, a lack of set reminders for tests, and assessment of patients’ risk behaviour, which differs per patient, were identified as barriers to guideline compliance. The compartmentalisation of the Dutch healthcare system was viewed as hampering guideline compliance. A clinical-decision-support tool could possibly facilitate compliance with laboratory monitoring guidelines. Moreover, better alignment of HIV outpatient care, municipal health services and primary care, in terms of laboratory testing, could optimize efficiency, increase cost-effectiveness, and improve quality of HIV care.

We conducted a randomized control trial to evaluate the impact of a novel technology-based intervention on HIV risks and condom use behaviors among Thai men who have sex with men (MSM). Between April 2016 and August 2017, participants aged 18 years and above, and having engaged in unprotected sex in past six months were randomly assigned to control and intervention arm, and received HIV testing at baseline, month 6 and 12. Intervention arm participants engaged in 12-monthly HIV/STI prevention educational sessions delivered via Vialogues.com. Of 76 MSM enrolled, 37 were randomized to intervention and 39 to control arm. Median age was 28 (IQR 24-32) years. Thirty-three (89.2%) intervention arm participants completed all 12-monthly Vialogues sessions. At month 12, intervention arm had higher retention rate (p = 0.029) and higher median percentage of condom use for anal intercourse (p = 0.023) versus control arm. Over the 12-month period, intervention arm reported significant reduction in self-perceived HIV risk (p = 0.001), popper usage (p = 0.002), median number of sexual partners (p = 0.003), and increased median condom use percentage (p = 0.006). Our study highlights that “Vialogues” intervention significantly reduced number of sexual partners and condomless anal intercourse rates among Thai MSM, and has positive implications for reducing epidemic among key populations.

BACKGROUND: The CDC recommends PrEP for MSM at substantial risk of HIV acquisition, leaving clinicians unsure whether to prescribe PrEP to MSM who do not disclose HIV risk factors. In a real-world setting we followed a cohort of MSM using PrEP who during their clinical visits stated they were low-risk for HIV to assess the accuracy of their HIV risk perception. METHODS: A longitudinal cohort of MSM requesting PrEP despite reporting either 100% condom use or participation in oral sex only was followed over 13 months at a community clinic in San Francisco. Participants completed a sexual and substance use behavior questionnaire at baseline, followed by quarterly HIV/STI testing and condom use change questionnaires. RESULTS: 81 clients self-identified as low-risk for HIV (age range 22-71, 83% non-Hispanic, 17% Hispanic). The mean number of partners in the previous 12 months was 10. 80% of MSM who perceived themselves as low-risk for HIV reported at least one HIV-related risk behavior including, sex while intoxicated (38%), sex with a person of unknown HIV status (28%), injecting drugs (1%), consuming 5 or more alcoholic drinks at one sitting (40%), ecstasy (11%), and poppers (16%). Condomless sex increased to 12% at month 1, peaked at 22% at month 7, and then decreased to 6% at month 10 before increasing slightly to 8% at month 13. Rates of pharyngeal GC/CT varied from 7% at baseline to 11% at month 13, while rectal GC/CT decreased from 6% at baseline to 0% at month 13. The rate of syphilis was 1% both at baseline and at month 13, however, 11% and 15% of clients tested positive for syphilis at months 1 and 7 respectively. CONCLUSIONS: 80% of participants who perceived themselves as low risk for HIV were actually high risk. Clients’ failure to report risk factors for HIV acquisition may lead to an increasingly unacceptable proportion of unidentified MSM at risk of HIV.

Men living with HIV/AIDS in sub-Saharan Africa are less likely than women to be engaged at each stage of the HIV care continuum. We conducted a scoping review in May of 2016 to identify how masculine norms influence men's HIV care engagement in sub-Saharan Africa. Our review yielded a total of 17 qualitative studies from 8 countries. Six major themes emerged that demonstrated how norms of masculinity create both barriers and facilitators to care engagement. Barriers included the exacerbating effects of masculinity on HIV stigma, the notion that HIV threatened men's physical strength, ability to provide, self-reliance, and risk behavior, and the belief that clinics are spaces for women. However, some men transformed their masculine identity and were motivated to engage in care if they recognized that antiretroviral therapy could restore their masculinity by rebuilding their strength. These findings demonstrate masculinity plays an important role in men's decision to pursue and remain in HIV care across sub-Saharan Africa. We discuss implications for tailoring HIV messaging and counseling to better engage men and an agenda for future research in this area.

Unprotected sex among commercial sex workers (CSWs) remains a leading cause of HIV transmission internationally. Previous research on condom use among CSWs has focused on females, with limited research among transgenders or on the role of network operators who mediate paid sexual transactions. We test whether network operators increase the likelihood of condom use among female and transgender CSWs in four Pakistan provinces using the 2011 Integrated Behavioral and Biological Survey. We find that transgender CSWs recruiting clients through network operators had higher odds of consistently using condoms compared with female CSWs recruiting clients through another source (relative OR: 2·80, 95% CI: 1·67, 4·70). While transgender CSWs in Pakistan using network operators have higher rates of condom use, however, this protective effect does not hold among females. This suggests that network operators may be a valuable group to target for HIV prevention efforts.

A randomized pilot study compared Risk Reduction Therapy for Adolescents (RRTA) to treatment as usual (TAU); the present study examined whether intervention condition influenced HIV testing, barriers to HIV testing, and HIV communication among adolescents involved in juvenile drug courts overall and by sexual experience. Of 105 participants, 13.3% had HIV pre-treatment testing, whereas 27.2% (of 92 participants) indicated follow-up HIV testing. Sexually active youth in RRTA (but not in TAU) reported a significant increase in HIV testing over time. RRTA demonstrated the greatest increase in HIV testing (8% pre-treatment to 44% follow-up), but not significantly more than TAU. Prevalence of barriers to HIV testing were observed at consistent rates among adolescents who did not get tested for HIV within either treatment condition. Adolescents in both conditions reported increased communication about HIV at follow-up. HIV testing was positively associated with perceived need for testing and testing resource accessibility. Stigma remained a barrier to testing at follow-up for RRTA (22%) and TAU (21%) participants. The RRTA intervention increased HIV testing and both interventions increased adolescents' communication about HIV; however, barriers persisted, warranting treatment modification.

We investigated changes in cognitive function and physical health and behavioural outcomes (HIV disease progression, health-seeking behaviour, adherence to HIV medications and risky sexual behaviour) at baseline and 12 months later among 1126 Ugandan adults living with HIV. Overall, cognitive function improved from baseline to follow-up, except for gait speed, which was slower at follow-up compared to baseline. There were improvements in physical health and behavioural outcomes by follow-up, with greater improvements among individuals on ART compared to those not on ART. Change in gait speed over time significantly predicted risky sexual behaviours at follow-up. This is the first study to investigate the longitudinal relationships between cognitive function and health outcomes among Ugandan adults living with HIV and provide insights into the possible links between cognitive function and negative clinical and behavioural health outcomes in people living with HIV.

Women's experiences of emotional intimate partner violence (IPV) and economic IPV are rarely considered in research on women's HIV-risk. Using cross-sectional data of young women (18-30) in Durban, South Africa, we assessed whether women's experiences of emotional IPV and economic IPV were independently associated with six HIV-risk behaviours. Amongst 680 women enrolled between September 2015 and September 2016, past year emotional IPV (78.1%) and economic IPV (52.2%) were common. In adjusted logistic regressions, women reporting past year emotional IPV were less likely to report condom use at last sex, and those reporting past year economic IPV were more likely to report transactional sex with a main partner, or casual partner. Overlaps between economic IPV and transactional sex, suggests economic IPV may be part of male economic coercion of women. Association between emotional IPV and condom use suggests complex inter-personal and psychodynamic relationships shape condom use.

Hazardous drinking is a clinically significant problem among persons with HIV (PWH) disease, and is associated with a number of poor outcomes. Hazardous drinking among PWH is associated with risky substance use and sexual behavior, but little work has examined factors that may be associated with greater hazardous drinking and subsequent risky sexual behaviors among PWH. Research among the general population suggests that sex-related alcohol expectancies, defined as drinking to enhance sexual experience, increase sexual risk-taking, and disinhibition of sexual behavior, are associated with greater hazardous alcohol use and risky sexual behavior, but these relations have not been explored among PWH. Therefore, the current study examined the associations of sex-related alcohol expectancies with hazardous alcohol consumption, dependence, and problems among 146 PWH (Mage = 50.99, SD = 9.41) \ enrolled in a clinical trial examining a personalized feedback intervention to reduce hazardous drinking in primary HIV care. Results showed that only sexual disinhibition-related alcohol expectancies were significantly associated with the criterion variables, such that greater drinking alcohol for sexual disinhibition was associated with greater hazardous drinking behaviors. These results sit on the backdrop of a larger literature documenting the links between disinhibition and hazardous alcohol use and provide explanatory specificity to PWH who are hazardous drinkers.

Black gay, bisexual, and other Black sexual minority men (BSMM) continue to experience negative health outcomes along the HIV prevention and treatment continuum, especially in the U.S. Deep South. The purpose of this study is to identify sexual risk and healthcare utilization profiles behaviors among BSMM in the Deep South. Guided by the Behavioral Model for Vulnerable Populations, latent class analysis was used to identify sexual risk and healthcare utilization profiles using data from 348 individuals in Jackson, MS and Atlanta, GA. Multinomial logistic regression was used to identify the correlates of class membership. A 3-class solution was identified: Class 1 (Substance using, Low Testers); Class 2 (Condom using testers), and Class 3 (Casual Partner Testers). Class 1 had the highest conditional probabilities of drug (75%) and alcohol (84%) use before sex and the lowest probability of STI and HIV testing. Class 2 had the highest probabilities of condom use and a 65% probability of seeing a healthcare provider. Class 3 had the highest probability of inconsistent condom use and seeing a healthcare provider in the previous 12 months (76%). Findings support the need for targeted interventions tailored to BSMM of different sexual risk and healthcare utilization behaviors.
