There are few studies on the occurrence of food insecurity (FI) in pregnant women living with HIV/AIDS (PrWLWHA). Our objective was to estimate the prevalence of food insecurity among PrWLWHA and to analyse the association between HIV and FI. For this we searched eight databases. We used the prevalence and prevalence ratio (PR) with a 95% confidence interval (CI) as the summary measurements for the meta-analysis. We identified 300 studies, 13 of which were eligible. The prevalence of FI was 64%, ranging between 26% (mild), 33% (moderate) and 27% (severe). People living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) had a 23% greater chance of facing FI (PR = 1.23, 95% CI 1.16-1.38) compared to those not living with HIV. The results revealed a high prevalence and positive association with FI among PLWHA, which suggests the need for food security assessments in HIV/AIDS clinical care.Existen pocos estudios sobre la ocurrencia de inseguridad alimentaria (IF) en mujeres embarazadas que viven con el VIH (PrWLWHA). Nuestro objetivo fue estimar la prevalencia de IF entre las personas que viven con el VIH/SIDA y analizar la asociación entre el VIH y la IF. Se realizaron búsquedas en ocho bases de datos. La prevalencia y la razón de prevalencia (RP) con un intervalo de confianza (IC) del 95% se utilizaron como medidas de resumen para el metanálisis. Se identificaron 300 estudios y 13 fueron seleccionados. La prevalencia de la IF fue del 64%, oscilando entre el 26% (leve), el 33% (moderada) y el 27% (grave). PrWLWHA tenían un 23% más de posibilidades de afrontar la IF (RP = 1,23, IC del 95% = 1,16–1,38) en comparación con las que no viven con el VIH. Los resultados revelaron una alta prevalencia y una asociación positiva entre la IF entre las PVVS, lo que sugiere la necesidad de una evaluación de la seguridad alimentaria en la atención clínica del VIH/SIDA.

Following the first outbreak of COVID-19 in Wuhan in December 2019, where Chinese authorities confirmed 41 cases detected between December 8 and January 2, 2020, the city stopped reporting cases until January 19, when 17 more cases were confirmed. By then, the first cases of COVID-19 had been reported outside China: two in Thailand and one in Japan. The rapid spread of the disease led the World Health Organization to declare it an international health emergency on Jan. 30, 2020. By that date, COVID-19 had been detected in all provinces of mainland China and cases were reported in 15 other countries. On March 11, the disease was present in more than 100 territories worldwide and was recognized as a pandemic by WHO. The number of confirmed cases continued to grow and on April 12, the number of confirmed cases worldwide stands at 1,524,161, in Europe at 830,260 and in Spain at 161,852. Globally, the United States, Spain, and Italy thus far, have the highest number of diagnosed cases and the highest number of deaths.

In March 2020, the South African government imposed a lockdown to control COVID-19 transmission. Lockdown may affect people living with HIV's (PLWH) antiretroviral therapy (ART) adherence. Data from a cluster randomised control trial was collected from 152 PLWH in Cape Town sub-districts from October 2019-March 2020 when the lockdown halted collection. Subsequently, 83 PLWH were followed-up in June-July 2020. Random effects models were used to analyse: (1) changes between baseline and follow-up and (2) correlates of adherence during lockdown. At follow-up, there was an increase in the odds of being below the poverty line and the odds of experiencing violence decreased. Measures for well-being, household functioning, stigma and HIV competency improved. Violence, depression, food insecurity, and stigma were associated with poorer ART adherence; higher well-being scores were associated with better adherence. During lockdown, governments need to ensure financial support, access to (mental) health services, and services for those experiencing violence.Clinical Trial Number: Pan African Clinical Trial Registry, PACTR201906476052236. Registered on 24 June 2019.En marzo de 2020, el gobierno sudafricano impuso un confinamiento generalizado para controlar la transmisión del COVID-19. Estas medidas pueden afectar la adherencia a la terapia antirretroviral de las personas con VIH. A partir de un ensayo aleatorio grupal se recopilan datos de 152 personas con VIH en los sub-distritos de Ciudad del Cabo entre octubre de 2019 y marzo de 2020 cuando el confinamiento detuvo la recopilación. Posteriormente, se realizó un seguimiento de 83 pacientes entre junio y julio de 2020. Se utilizaron modelos de efectos aleatorios para analizar: 1) los cambios en las variables entre la línea de base y de seguimiento; 2) covariables de adhesión al tratamiento. En el seguimiento se observa que aumentaron las probabilidades de estar por debajo del umbral de pobreza y disminuyeron las probabilidades de sufrir violencia. Las medidas de bienestar, funcionamiento del hogar, estigma e idoneidad en materia de VIH mejoraron entre la línea base y el seguimiento. Por otro lado, la violencia, la depresión, la inseguridad alimentaria y el estigma se asocian a una menor adherencia al tratamiento antirretroviral, mientras la mejora del bienestar se asocia a una mayor adherencia al tratamiento. De tal manera, se observa que durante situaciones de emergencia que requieran de confinamientos es recomendable que los gobiernos garanticen apoyo financiero, atención a la salud física y mental de manera continua, así como servicios especializados hacia quienes sufren violencia.

This study evaluated the efficacy of the COMPAS program in the short term and 6 months after its application. For the initial sample, 2047 teenagers aged 14–19 years from 14 schools in 11 Colombian cities participated; eight schools were randomly assigned to the experimental condition and six to the control group. The participants completed self-report assessments that evaluated several variables theoretically associated with protective sexual behaviors. In the short term, the experimental group showed increased knowledge about HIV and other STIs, sexual assertiveness, self-efficacy, greater behavioral intention toward condom use, and more favorable attitudes toward HIV and condom use than the control group. After 6 months, most psychological and health variables also showed a significant positive change. In conclusion, the COMPAS program is the first school-based sexuality education program that has been shown to be effective in reducing mediating and behavioral variables associated with sexual risk reduction in Colombia. Este estudio evaluó la eficacia del programa COMPAS a corto plazo y a 6 meses después de la aplicación. Para la muestra inicial participaron 2.047 adolescentes de 14 a 19 años provenientes de 12 escuelas en 11 ciudades colombianas; 8 escuelas fueron aleatoriamente asignadas a la condición experimental y 6 al grupo control. Los participantes completaron autoinformes sobre variables teóricamente asociadas con comportamientos sexuales de protección. A corto plazo, el grupo experimental mostró un mayor conocimiento sobre ITS, asertividad sexual, autoeficacia e intención conductual hacia el uso del condón y actitudes más favorables hacia el VIH que el grupo de control. Después de seis meses, la mayoría de las variables psicológicas y de salud también mostraron un cambio positivo. En conclusión, el programa COMPAS es el primer programa de educación sexual que ha demostrado ser efectivo para reducir las variables mediadoras y conductuales asociadas con la reducción del riesgo sexual en Colombia.
