Evolutionary game theory can be attested as a practical apparatus in providing additional information on the workings of the open market and on the blueprint for dynamics in economic phenomena. Through an interdisciplinary approach to different game scenarios, the dependencies among market forces are observed, thus, being capable of offering insight on the incentives for adopting different behaviors. This paper takes use of the different factors that form the payoff of certain strategies which can be adopted by companies, and determines the prerequisites for cooperation or competition while all together constructing settings and predictions on the evolution of the phenomena. Determining the evolutionary stable strategy for different scenarios and looking at the way in which the probability of encountering a certain behavior is constructed, provide the possibility to determine the outcome of an ongoing evolutionary process. By studying the monotony of the probability function in respect to each of the factors that contribute to the payoffs, the study indicates that there is a positive relation between the percentage of population playing competitive strategies and market potential, costs, and risks of penalty for cooperation and a negative relation between this percentage and the disputed market share and supplementary winnings from arrangements. The volatility in a CPG market is modeled using a bottom-up simulation approach and validated against disaggregated supermarket transactions data. The simulation uses independent agents, each agent representing unique households in the data. A simple behavioral model incorporates household preferences for product attributes and prices. Our validation strategy tests the model predictions at both macro and micro levels and benchmarks the performance in each against a random choice model. The model significantly outperforms the benchmark at both levels. At the macro level, choices made by heterogenous agents accurately captures the volatility in market shares over time. Do the Marshallian and Walrasian models have a firm foundation on micromotives, or are they just macroabstractions that we could dispense in microeconomics? Previous evidence from experimental economics with human subjects in continuous double auction markets shows that, if the supply is downward-sloping or the demand is upward-sloping, the Marshallian stability model captures the observed phenomena but the Walrasian does not. But, of course, in human subjects experiments the basic question of what the human agents' behavior is remains open. We build an artificial agent-based model to show that the path of convergence needs more intelligence than the zero-intelligence framework. Results from experimental economics with human agents reproduced with artificial agents at a low cost and with an increase in the reliability of the experiment. Not only the existence but also the computation of the stability is relevant. These results cast a shadow on the interest of both instability concepts in economic theory. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
