A theoretical model is developed to investigate sound transmission characteristics of an infinite lightweight plate line connected to equally spaced stiffeners and excited by an oblique plane wave. The reactive forces and moments at the line connections are obtained from the flexural and torsional motions of the stiffeners. The vibro-acoustic equation that describes the dynamic response of the structure is derived by employing the Fourier Transform method, which will be numerically solved by truncating the solution to converge. Numerical examples are presented to investigate the effects of the incidence angle, the stiffener spacing, the plate thickness, on the sound transmission characteristic of the system, and useful conclusions are drawn.

Nowadays vibration of hull caused by the shaft surface roughness has caught attentions all over the world. In this paper we conducted a brief analysis on this project based on the contact theory and FEM. Firstly, we calculated the contact force based on numerical simulation and contact theory. Then we analyzed the effects of speed and shaft surface roughness on the hull vibration. Results show that the effect of shaft surface roughness on the hull vibration is greater than that of speed. But when the frequency of contact force gets close to the natural frequency of hull, the effect of speed becomes obvious. These conclusions have large significance on the selection of shaft and the design of hull.

Copy-Move is a common forgery in the research field of digital image forensics, this paper proposes a detection approach based on wavelet transform and two-dimensional image principal component analysis. After reducing the image dimension by Discrete Wavelet Transform(DWT),2DIMPCA is applied to the fixed sized overlapping blocks of a low-frequency image in the wavelet sub-band to yield a reduced dimension representation from the horizontal direction and the vertical direction. The eigenvectors are then lexicographically sorted, the forgery part are localized by detecting for all neighborhood vectors by a certain threshold. The experiments demonstrate that the proposed approach can not only localize the copy forgery regions accurately, but also reduce the amount of computation and improve the detection efficiency.

Combined shape and gauge control is a hot issue in continuous hot plate and strip rolling field. Due to the coupled function of shape and gauge control in rolling process, mutual effects must be considered when shape control is carried out. Traditional shape and gauge control theories are of independent and the control systems are also separated, so it is difficult to ensure the quality of shape and gauge simultaneously. Based on the shape theory of shape and gauge control and function Φ derived from the load distribution method of Ichiro Imai , a combined shape and gauge control scheme was developed, which can adjust rolling regulations on-line according to the deviation of strip crown measured at the exit of the rolling mill. The method can ensure gauge precision while strip crown is adjusted and the purpose of combined shape and gauge control is reached.

Silicon-hydrogen crystalline models are proposed to estimate theoretical hydrogen storage capacity in porous silicon media with nanostructure features like cubic nodules, columnar forests and thin wall honeycomb like networks. To simulate these nanostructure features and their hydrogen storage capacities, three basic crystalline types (cubic, column and plate) have been developed as building blocks for constructing H-Si weight storage models under the assumption of that hydrogen is chemically bonded to available surface silicon atoms. Using these models, the hydrogen weight storage capacity for all feature dimensions from unit to infinitely long can be estimated. According to these theoretical models, the best nanostructure for hydrogen storage is cubic nodule, columnar forest and thin wall network in that order. They have weight storage capacity limits of 5.77%, 5.21% and 2.78% respectively for infinitely large feature dimensions.

A new cutting technology on the rotating part of the interior helical surface of screw pump stator is proposed aiming at the tough condition in manufacturing metallic screw pump stator. An equation on the parameters of interior helical surface is constructed in three segments. The contact equations of three helical surfaces were constructed based on the contact condition of the rotary surface of cutting tools and on the helical surface of work piece. This way, three contact paths were confirmed and external profile of cutting tools was calculated. The geometrical shape of cutting tools was confirmed by calculating, fitting and substituting the errors. Calculated results indicated that this method is feasible, laying a theoretical foundation for the cutting process of the interior helical surface of the metallic screw pump stator.

3D braided group theory is dissertated. The analysis procedure is described from the existing braided geometry structure to the braided space group; 3D braided geometrical structures are finally described by means of group theory. Some of novel 3D braided structures are deduced from the braided space groups. By describing the 3D braided materials with braided space point and braided space groups, the braided space groups are not always the same as symmetry groups of crystallographic because novel lattices can be produced and the reflection operation cannot exist in braided space point groups. Braided point and space groups are theoretical basis for deriving the novel braided geometry structure.

In cold rolling process, asymmetric shape defects are still a common problem to strip quality. For the mills with inverse symmetry roll shifting system, different roll wear and thermal contour of top roll system and bottom roll system could cause asymmetric shape defects during shifting operation. In this paper, three dimension finite element simulation models of inverse shifting roll system were established to calculate the parameters and to analyze the effects. Based on the idea in the mill engineering that mill style option depended on the product grade, shifting weakness was evaluated and the opinion of limit shifting was suggested. To improve control effect to asymmetric shape defects in cold rolling, shape control system with asymmetric shape control ability is developed, including asymmetric edge drop control at upstream stands and asymmetric flatness control at last stand. The further improvement of asymmetric shape control theory and practice is the key way to reach the higher precision of shape quality in cold strip mills.

Due to the coupled function of shape and gauge control in rolling process, mutual effects must be considered when shape control or gauge control is carried out. Traditional shape and gauge control theories are of independent and the control systems are also separated, so it is difficult to ensure the quality of shape and gauge simultaneously. Based on the updated shape theory and a single parameter model of load distribution method, a combined shape and gauge control method was developed, which can adjust rolling regulations on-line according to the deviation of strip crown measured at the exit of the rolling mill. The method can ensure gauge precision while strip crown is adjusted and the purpose of combined shape and gauge control is reached.

Lubricating characteristics of sector cavity multi-pad hydrostatic thrust bearing are affected significantly by velocity, poor design can cause lubricant film rupture and dry friction, even leading to failure of hydrostatic bearing tribology. For this problem, the Computational Fluid Dynamics and the lubrication theory have been used to analyze velocity characteristics of the parameters such as cavity pressure of oil, oil cavity flow and film thickness, to gain relationship between velocity and lubricating properties of sector cavity multi-pad hydrostatic thrust bearing, avoiding the occurrence of hydrostatic bearing tribological failure. It is shown that along with the speed of the worktable increasing, the flow of lubricant oil caused by inertia and centrifugal force become larger, the flow of efflux from the oil cavity also become larger, causing the pressure drop of the oil cavity, the thinning of the film thickness, the occurrence of film rupture and dry friction and failure of hydrostatic bearing tribology. The study provides the basic data for the hydrostatic thrust bearing design, the lubrication and the experiment, implements of the prediction of the hydrostatic thrust bearing lubrication velocity characteristics, and reaches the purpose of reducing economic loss.

The slab edge rolling has been widely used in the roughing stand of hot strip mill to control the width of the slab. However, the slab edge rolling and consequent horizontal rolling will cause a significant width change in the head part and tail part of the slab, which have to be trimmed before the finishing stands. The short stroke control (SSC) technology has been developed to overcome this problem. In this paper, the finite element method (FEM) has been used to simulate the unsteady edge rolling process. Three SSC control curves have been compared in order to obtain the best width control result. The optimized SSC control curve has been applied to the industrial rolling mill.

During the cold rolling of thin strip on the 1220mm five-stand tandem cold mills, scratch marks occur on the surfaces of strip and work roll. The surface quality of strip is degraded and the roll wear increases, which resulting in significant economic loss. In this paper, the mechanics of strip scratch marks was studied by carrying out both field experiments and theoretical analysis. Slippage Factor (SF) and Scratch Mark Factor (SMF) were presented to indicate the conditions of strip scratch marks. Meanwhile, mathematical models and simulation code were developed to optimise the rolling schedules and to improve the scratch marks. The practical application of the developed models to the 1220 mm five-stand tandem cold mills verifies the effectiveness of the developed models. The mathematical models can be applied to other similar tandem cold mills.
