Since the development of economics and society, secured and reliable power supply has become essential. Model and diagrams management remains the fundamental technology for distribution automation and smart distribution system. However, distribution system develops rapidly, simple model and diagrams management and maintenance with GIS would not satisfy the requirements by system operation. In this paper, we propose panorama dispatching technologies as integrative solution for smart distribution system. Firstly, the framework of panorama dispatching technologies is established; then key technologies for panorama dispatching technologies are introduced. With our proposed methods and technologies, the distribution system operators can not only manage and examine accuracy of model and diagram, but also work on a unique strategic diagram to better understand and dispatch the system with multiple levels and views of panorama diagrams. The results in this paper are very useful for distribution automation and smart distribution system.

The anchoring of CFRP tendon can be performed by wedging, bonding or compressing. The wedge type anchor, used for PS steel tendon, is inappropriate for direct application to the CFRP tendon due to its low lateral stiffness. Since the bond performance of the CFRP tendon depends on the anchor performance, the bond type anchor presents the problem of requiring long steel sleeve in case of low bond performance or high tensile performance. Compared to the bond type anchor, the compressing type anchor offers better applicability but necessitates the development of a sleeve fitted to the dimensions of each CFRP tendon. This study intends to examine the anchoring characteristics of the compressed sleeve for the temporary anchorage of a CFRP tendon with diameter of 10 mm. To that goal, the properties of the 10 mm-diameter CFRP tendon were assessed using the bond type anchor and the corresponding anchor performance is compared to that of the compressed anchor. The test results revealed that the use of spacers in the compressed anchor provided lower anchor performance due to the characteristics of the spacers. For the specimen without spacer, the micro-deformations formed inside the sleeve were seen to compress the CFRP tendon by gearing directly the tendon and to provide anchor performance reaching about 72% of the tensile strength of the CFRP tendon. Further study shall develop a sleeve with increased compress force on the CFRP tendon so as to improve the anchor performance of the compressed sleeve. Moreover, solution shall also be provided to introduce a uniform compress force.

Despite of their outstanding axial strength, CFRP tendons necessitate special anchorage due to their low lateral shear strength. In order to cope with such CFRP tendon, the conventional bond type anchor needs to be improved. The results of bond tests executed on 10-mm diameter CFRP tendons coated with sand and oxide revealed that, even if the average bond strength increases by 3 times compared to the non-coated bare tendon, the coated CFRP tendon still requires excessively long anchored length for bonding. Therefore, this study applies a method enabling to shorten the bonded length and improving further the bond performance compared to sand or oxide coating. The improvement of the bond characteristics is achieved by splitting the ends of the CFRP tendon so as to widen the bonded area by 3.5 times. The test results showed that the anchor performance of the CFRP tendon reaches 95% of its tensile strength making it applicable for the bond type anchor.

Adding polymer into cement concrete is used to increase the interlayer bonding performance. The impact of polymer on the interlayer bonding performance was studied by shear strength and tensile strength test. The mix design of the interface agent was optimized through the tensile bending tests of different fiber and polymer dosage. The impact of casting methods and interface agent mix was studied through tests. The test results show that: adding organic fiber and polymer into cement concrete could significantly increase the interlayer bond strength. The interface agent of SBR (styrene-butadiene rubber) latex modified cement paste has better tensile bonding properties. When the ratio of cement to DB-1 latex is 3:2, it will effectively increase the interlayer bonding performance of cement concrete.

The cost and benefits have been analyzed of applying SM570 steel to tall buildings in Taiwan. In detail, two 40-story steel buildings are designed for the Taipei Microzonation II. One building has SN490B steel columns. The other also uses SM570 steel for the 1st -to- 14th -story columns. The stress ratios and story drift ratios are limited to 0.9 and 0.005, respectively. The drift demands are then evaluated by using nonlinear time history analyses with 14 sets of ground motions scaled to the intensity for the return periods of 475 and 2500 years. By FEMA 356, the building fragility is further assessed using the drift ratios of 2.5% and 5% for life safety and collapse prevention. It is concluded that the use of SM570 steel saves 140 tons steel in total, approximately 3%. That also reduces the seismic drift demands of the building, greatly decreasing the failure probability against earthquake collapse.

Common methods for reducing image size include scaling and cropping. However, these two approaches have some quality problems for reduced images. In this paper, we propose an image reducing algorithm by separating the main objects and the background. First, we extract two feature maps, namely, an enhanced visual saliency map and an improved gradient map from an input image. After that, we integrate these two feature maps to an importance map. Finally, we generate the target image using the importance map. The proposed approach can obtain desired results for a wide range of images.

Long-Reach Passive Optical Network (LR-PON) is widely acknowledged as a promising solution for communication system in smart grid. Survivability is one of the key issues in the planning of LR-PON because massive high-rate traffic flows may be interrupted in case of network component failure. However, the survivability issue of LR-PON is addressed in few works. Most of previous works focus on single distribution fiber failure and remain untouched the simultaneous failure of multiple distribution fibers. In this paper, we focus on the survivability of LR-PON against single Shared-Risk Link Group (SRLG) failure. A reliability model is proposed to represent the probability of reliable connection for each Optical Network Unit (ONU). Based on this reliability model, we propose a novel Backup Fibers Protection (BFP) approach, aiming at the optimization of joint allocating backup capacity and deploying backup fibers. Through extensive simulation, we investigate the performance of BFP and demonstrate its effectiveness in different scenarios.

Currently the annulus pressure of gas well becomes more common, so the safe production of several wells has been seriously affected. The annulus pressure mechanism is relatively complex, and it can be approximately classified into annulus pressure induced by temperature effect, by ballooning effect and by leakage or seal failure etc. The article mainly focuses on the annulus pressure mechanism induced by ballooning effect and the corresponding calculation model. For the tubing column with two ends fixed and closed, when tubing internal pressure is larger than the external extrusion force, the external diameter of the tubing column balloons (i.e. ballooning effect). It reduces the annular volume between the tubing and the casing, and consequentially induces annulus pressure. Based on the fundamental theory of elastic-plastic mechanics, the tubing column is simplified into the thin walled cylinder so as to deduce the relation models between the internal pressure and its swell capacity and A annulus pressure value, which provide theoretical support for safety evaluation on annulus pressure and the next treatment program.

Taiwan is a small island. Some of college campuses are very tiny with large hard pavement to cause un-comfortable outdoor environment. Most of faculty and students like to stay at classroom and use air-conditioner to establish comfort thermal environment. Thus, the outdoor and semi-outdoor thermal equipments are used to detect the parameters of weather. The test and analysis results show that hard pavements cause the un-comfortable outdoor comfort. Mean Radiant Temperatures of grass in summer is higher than the other pavement because that grass pavement is lack of moisture to causes bad outdoor thermal comfort. Therefore, the fine outdoor and semi-outdoor thermal comfort environment should consider the permeable pavement and grass with suitable moisture to cause better outdoor thermal environment and large arbores should be planted widely in campus to establish a better semi-outdoor thermal temperature in campus of the subtropical zone.

0.65(K0.5Bi0.5)TiO3–0.35BaTiO3 (0.65 KBT-0.35 BT3) ceramic was synthesized using a conventional calcination process (CC-process), and using a two-step calcination process that combined hydrothermal and CC processes (HT-CC-process). The effects of these two different calcination processes on the physical and dielectric properties of 0.65 KBT-0.35 BT3 ceramics were recorded and analyzed. When the CC-process was used, secondary phases—namely, BaBi4Ti4O15, K2TiO3, and K4Ti3O8—were observed in the XRD patterns of 0.65 KBT-0.35 BT3 ceramics. When the HT-CC-process was used, only the (K0.5Bi0.5)TiO3 (or (K0.5Bi0.5, Ba)TiO3) phase was observed in the XRD patterns, with no secondary phases. Due to the secondary phases, the CC-process 0.65 KBT-0.35 BT3 ceramic had lower dielectric peaks and broader temperature-dielectric constant curve than the 0.65 KBT-0.35 BT3 ceramic synthesized using the HT-CC-process.

This study mainly described a low-cost stereoscopic sensing scheme using a single Kinect device of Microsoft. Basically, the integration of infrared (IR) depth map with visible light image of Kinect could support the virtual 3-dimensional view. However, the precision and unstable displays are problems practically that means the unstable variation of 3D displays and distorted projections of Kinect IR projector make the depth maps non-reliable so that the virtual view usually non-acceptable with defects in many cases especially in low lamination and corners of the sensing objects. The study proposed an algorithm to rebuild a good depth map includes: free-holes filling, extrapolation and prediction of filling-loss holes, rectification and trimming of depth-edge deformation, modification of the depths for no-IR-detectable object and the sparse IR-detectable depths, and finally applying the bilateral filtering for the edge smoothing. The simulation result demonstrated that the proposed algorithm can provide an acceptable virtual 3-dimensional images and the calculation loads are suitable for real-time stereoscopic displays.

As a new azide-free gas generating pyrotechnic composition, the performance of four kinds of 5-aminotetrazole nitrate (5-ATN) gas generating compositions were investigated by hygroscopicity, compatibility, impact sensitivity, heat of combustion and burning temperature measurement. The advantages of the gas generant using KNO3 as an oxidizing agent include small hygroscopicity, better compatibility, lower impact sensitivity and proper burning temperature. The degree of water sorption in the mixed system with Sr (NO3)2 was much higher than that with KNO3. The participation of CuO can reduce the hygroscopicity of the system with Sr (NO3)2. As the oxidizing agent and catalyst, CuO can also decrease the impact sensitivity, heat of combustion and burning temperature of both systems. 5-ATN gas generant provides fair compatibility using 5-ATN as separate system.

The mesophase (iron aluminate, etc.) in steel slag was extracted by potassium hydroxide-sucrose (KOSH) solution method. The effects of partical size of steel slag, temperature and time of extraction on dissolution of mesophase phase were studied. The composition and morphology of the residue were analyzed by XRD and SEM. The results show the mesophase in steel slag powders (the weight was and the fineness was) could be fully dissolved when 4.00 g sample with a fineness about 600m2/kg is used and extraction temperature is kept at 90oC, however, other minerals in the steel slag could be hardly dissolved. The reason might be for that, in alkaline environment which provided by potassium hydroxide, the replacement of ions were took place between the mesophase in steel slag and the organic ligands formed by sugar and potassium hydroxide, and through the adsorption and polarization between ligand and steel slag surface, it will result in the decrease of activation energy of iron aluminate.

To study the fluidization properties and mixing properties of binary mixtures of quartz sand and coal char, the experiments were carried out in fluidized bed with an inner diameter of 50 mm. The pressure drop lines and mixing index were obtained under different operating conditions with changing the static bed height and the volume fraction of coal char. A new formula of mixing index was proposed to consider the difference of horizontal mixing behavior. The result showed that the static bed height does not make an appreciable influence to minimum fluidization velocity and fluidization status. However, the volume fraction of coal char affected the minimum fluidization velocity obviously, and the minimum fluidization velocity decreased monotonously with decreasing the volume fraction. Although the small volume fraction of coal char was good for mixing, the effect was limited by the height of bed and the mixing index becomes constant almost at 80mm static bed height when the volume fraction was less than 0.4.

Threshold segmentation method was widely applied in image process and the selection of threshold affected the final results of image segmentation to a large extent. In order to improve the accuracy and the calculation speed of image segmentation, an Otsu threshold segmentation method based on genetic algorithm was offered. According to the threshold and the gray scale values of pixels, the pixels were divided into two categories, and then the genetic algorithm was used to find the maximum variance between clusters and obtain the optimal threshold of segmentation image. The experimental results show that this method can be used to segment the image effectively, which make the basis for image processing and analysis in the next step.

Polyaniline (PANI) nano-thin films were deposited on a novel microstructure silicon (MSS) substrate via in-situ self-assembly approach for NH3gas-sensing. The MSS was prepared by alkaline etching process, and gold interdigital electrodes were formed on the MSS surface by vacuum evaporation. The characterization of the MSS and PANI nanothin film were investigated by scanning electron microscope (SEM) and UV-Vis absorption spectroscopy. SEM images showed that the MSS exhibited an orderly uniform hemisphere array structure, and the MSS surface was covered by a compact PANI thin film which consists of PANI nanoparticles and PANI nanofibers. The gas-sensing properties of the sensor were examined at room temperature. The results revealed that the sensor exhibited a good response and recovery characteristics to NH3.
