Pomelo peel was esterified with acetic anhydride using 4-dimethyl-amino pyridine as a catalyst under reaction temperature of 60 °C and duration of 3 h. At 0.1 g 4-dimethyl-amino pyridine of the catalyst in 80 ml acetic anhydride, the highest sorption values of 14.95 g/g diesel and 18.39 g/g lubricating oil were achieved, which was found to be much higher than raw pomelo peel. FTIR and SEM studies produced evidence for acetylation. The sorption kinetics and reusability were studied. The kinetic studies show good correlation coefficients for a pseudo-second-order kinetic model. This work demonstrated that pomelo peel modified by acetic anhydride is an efficient and environment-friendly biosorbent for the removal of spilled oil.

Two new kinds of modified isobutylene-isoprene rubber (IIR) oil absorbers were successfully prepared via freeze-thaw method. In order to further improve IIR oil-sorbents performance, graphite and nanosilica were chosen as modifiers. The cryogels were prepared cross-linking of IIR containing modifier in benzene at-5 °C, using sulfur monochloride as crosslinker. The modified IIR structures were characterized by using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and contact angle analysis (CA). The results show that graphite-modified IIR exhibit much higher uptake capacity than silica-modified. The sorption capacity of the best graphite-modified sample reaches 19.68 g.g-1for crude oil, 19.98 g.g-1for diesel and 19.50 g.g-1for lubricating oil, respectively. The adsorbed liquids can be removed by centrifuging and the recovered materials could also be used more than 30 cycles. This study demonstrated graphite-modified IIR are more excellent and recommendable materials for oil removal.

With the rise and rapid development of the systems biology, in order to explore the relationship between different levels of Bioinformatics relevance, the need of integrated visualization of biological scientific computing data at different levels is increasingly urgent. This paper propses a molecular structure and genome sequence synthesized visualization metadata model, and then implements the integration management of the visualization data of molecular structure and genome sequence. This method can effectively support the development of visualization capabilities of molecular structure and gene sequence. Based on the XML technology, by deep researching in the field of visualization data format and applying this synthesized visualization metadata model, this paper designs and introduces the conversion method for visualization data of molecular structure and genome sequence. Ultimately, based on this synthesized visualization metadata model, a synthesized visualization prototype system for molecular structure and gene sequence (VMG) has been developed.

In the field of bioinformatics visualization, integrating software and data in different levels is the development trend. This paper presents an integration framework for biomolecular structure and genome sequences visualization. The framework can effectively support the data and software interoperability of biomolecular structure / genome sequences visualization. Based on the framework, we developed an integrated visualization system, which provides some new comprehensive visualization functions. Preliminary trial showed that the framework has a good prospect in the research of bioinformatics.

Two efficient anthracene-degrading strains are isolated from pollution sludge collected from sewage treatment plant and identified by sequencing their 16S rDNA genes, one is Pseudomonas nitroreducens and the other is Bacillus sp.. The proper growth conditions of each bacterium was measured and presented for anthracene-degrading. The optimum growth condition is pH 7.5, 30°C. Biodegradation assays revealed that the degradation rates of two bacterial strains are 82.3% and 80.7% in 7 days. Respectively, the two bacteria had played important roles in the degradation of anthracene.

The catalytic ozonation which treated nitrobenzene in extracted groundwater with high concentration was studied.The experiment showed that the optimization of catalysts was that the manganese nitrate and iron nitrate were dissolved to dip the activated alumina in 10 percent of mass concentration, the ratio of manganese to iron was 2:1, the calcination temperature was 450°C with six hours. The catalyst was characterized by SEM-EDS too; Adsorption of catalyst, air stripping, increasing concentration, temperature and pH all had effect on this reaction system. When pH was 9,temperature was 25 °C and catalyst dosage was 30g/L, the removal rate of nitrobenzene could reach 68.8%.
