Paper industry produces large amounts of sludge with about 65wt% moisture content. Due to its complex composition, the charge of traditional disposal method is high and easy to bring about secondary pollution. In this paper, the influences of temperature, oxidation coefficient and residence time on the performance of supercritical water oxidation (SCWO) of paper mill sludge were investigated. The results show that SCWO can almost completely eliminate organics in sludge and obtain transparent liquid products meeting relative national standards at 550°C, 5min with an oxidation coefficient of 3.0. However, during this process, TN changes to NH3-N, so NH3-N in liquid products increases with operation parameters, indicating the recalcitrant nature of NH3-N, and which needs further treatment.

Aiming at solving the low efficiency and low quality of the existing test paper generation algorithm, this paper proposes an improved particle swarm algorithm, a new algorithm for intelligent test paper generation. Firstly, the paper conducts mathematically modeling based on item response theory. Secondly, in the new algorithm, the inertia weight is expressed as functions of particle evolution velocity and particle aggregation by defining particle evolution velocity and particle aggregation so that the inertia weight has adaptability. At the same time, slowly varying function is introduced to the traditional location updating formula so that the local optimal solution can be effectively overcome. Finally, simulation results show that compared with the quantum-behaved particle swarm algorithm, the proposed algorithm has better performance in success rate and composing efficiency.

It’s necessary to establish criterion of recycled fine aggregate for the application of recycled concrete and recycled mortar. Strength ratio and water demand ratio are important technical indexes of recycled aggregate. In this paper, a series experiments are hereby performed to determine testing and classification method for recycled fine aggregate. The experimental results indicate that fineness modulus of recycled sand influences inversely the strength ratio and water demand ratio. Furthermore strength ratio of various aggregates decreases with the increasing of water demand ratio in using identical cement type. The present paper also provides definition and testing method of water demand ratio and strength ratio. Consequently the quality classification criterion for recycled aggregate is proposed based on the double-control concept of water demand ratio and strength ratio and has been adopted by national code “Recycled fine aggregate for concrete and mortar”(Revision for Approval).

The fibrous plants can grow from Northern to Southern Arctic Circle. Different parts of these lignocellulosic plants are valuable sources of lignocellulosic fibres used in textiles and eco-friendly composites, sources of human food, nutrients, animal feed, agro-fine-chemicals for cosmetics and other area of application. That they are completely sustainable, renewable, and biodegradable and they recycle the carbon dioxide (CO2). Fibrous plants were well known to mankind more than 7 000 BC. Some of these bast fibrous plants like flax and hemp could be explored for reclaiming the soil polluted by heavy metals. The total production of all natural fibres is expected at the level 35-40 million tons/year. Special treatment and functionalization of these fibres provides new promising features and expected new properties of these fibres. Natural fibres can be processed for production of woven goods, knitting, nonwoven, technical and 3D textiles, also as the reinforcement of more friendly composites. These whole plants and woody parts (shives) and fibres can be used for production of special pulp and paper and seeds some for obtaining the agro-fine-chemicals. Natural fibres and derived products have very important properties like: excellent air permeability, high hygroscopicity, high heat absorption, no release of substances harmful for health, they not cause allergy effect, as well as safer behaviour in flame and fire combustion versus man-made fibres. The new emerging method of genetic modification (GM) of these fibrous plants provides promising performance e.g. higher level of cellulose, possibility of creating polyhydroxy-alcanate (PHA) natural polyester in statu nascendi. Such GM modified plants are resistant to special herbicides, better resistant to drought also with controlled level of lignin and pectin. In 21st century the coexistence and competition between man-made and natural fibres is stabilized, especially in area of quality, sustainability and economy of their production.

This study was done to access the influence of salinity on the treatment of tannery wastewater, activity of sludge and morphological characteristics of the salt-tolerant bacteria cultivated using tannery wastewater as culture mediums and intermittent aeration as method. The results indicated that, aerobic sludge which contained salt-tolerant bacteria was cultivated under the conditions of temperature of 35°C and pH = 8, the COD removal in simulated and actual tannery wastewater was more than 87% and 85% by the cultivated aerobic sludge, respectively. In addition, the morphological characteristics were related to the composition and concentration of the salt. The average generation time of bacteria was 24.6min ~ 28.6min when the concentration of MLSS was 2.0 ~ 3.0g/L and the concentration of pure NaCl was 1 ~ 5g/L. As the volume ratio of NaCl and Na2SO4 was 4:1 ~ 1:4 with the total concentration of 5g/L, the average generation time of bacteria was 30.8min ~ 39.7min. The relation equation between salt concentration and the average generation time of bacteria under the pure salt, composite salt and actual tannery wastewater conditions was also deduced through four assumptions. The results had significant application on tannery wastewater treatment with great reduction of pollution.

Worker information systems provide the right information at the right time in a lean way. In this paper, the need for an integrated feedback system with formalised text parts is exposed. To meet the disadvantages of a lack of feedback, two important points are identified: involving of workers and guaranteeing a high information quality. Several approaches show that workers have to be included into an early stage of product development process to improve product details and especially assembly scenarios. Also, workers get an idea of their contribution to a zero-waste production. If more information is created, the quality gets more important. It is explained what quality criteria should be considered. Technical realisations for a feedback system close this paper.

In recent years, concrete repair has become an integral part of the construction industry. With the vast quantity of concrete used in the South African construction industry over the past 100 years, one can expect an increase in repair and rehabilitation requirements during the extended lifecycle of exposed concrete structures. Crack repair, re-profiling of spalled areas and surface sealing with polymer related materials forms the bulk of such repair and rehabilitation operations. Due to the complexity of these projects and the variety of professionals and other stakeholders involved from the diagnostics to the implementation phase (specialists consultants, contractors, suppliers and owners of the structures), considerable problems seem to have surfaced to ensure cost-effective but sustainable and durable outcomes. It has been found that in many concrete repair projects, the responsibility for the repair work, adequate quality control and the assessment of successful patch repairs are not fully embraced by the various stakeholders. This concern has led to the research as reported in this paper. The research entailed a series of questionnaires drawn up specifically for the four different stakeholder sectors of the concrete repair industry. The results indicate that, although there is agreement that concrete repair is a highly specialized field, there is not enough training in the correct use of the repair materials, nor enough knowledge regarding the diagnostics or material specification and selection processes. Knowledge on polymer modified mortar are also minimal. These problems are compounded by inadequate quality control and lack of ongoing monitoring of patch repair failure. The paper concludes with suggestions on the way forward.

This paper presents a method based improved particle swarm optimization optimizing PI control parameters. When the load changes, parallel active power filter, in the traditional PI control strategies, can not well control DC voltage fluctuations leading the deterioration of its dynamic performance. This paper proposes the improved particle swarm algorithm by increasing symbolic function of inertia weight parameter in particle swarm algorithm, and changing position of the random number in the speed update equation. The improved particle swarm algorithm can avoid "premature" or fall into local optimal solution, so it could get a more accurate solution set. Using improved particle swarm algorithm to solve PI controller optimization objective function, to get a more accurate PI control parameters. Simulation and experimental results show that mutations in the case load, the overshooting of an capacitor DC voltage compare with the traditional PI control reduces 5.5%, compared with Particle Swarm Optimization reduces 1.5%. Based on the simulation analyses and experimental results, it has been proved that this method can realize a comprehensive optimization.
