Abstract

The nuclear structure of 69Cu has been investigated by means of the (d, ³He) transfer reaction at the Orsay tandem in direct kinematics using a deuteron beam at Ed = 27 MeV and a target of 70Zn isotopically enriched to 95.4%. The ³He of interest from the transfer reaction were detected with the split-pole spectrometer at different angles in the laboratory frame in order to perform angular distributions and assign the angular momentum for each populated state in 69Cu. Abstract

The preliminary value of the reduced transition probability B(E2; 0+ → 2+1) in 46Ar has been determined using the Coulomb excitation technique at intermediate energy. The 46Ar was produced in the fragmentation of a 48Ca beam at GANIL. The γ-rays following the Coulomb excitation of the 2+1 were emitted in-flight and detected by the 64 BaF2 detectors of the Château de Cristal array. The relatively low B(E2) value of 46Ar reported in this article supports the semi-magic character of this nucleus due to the persistence of the N = 28 shell closure at Z = 18. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

We present the results of an experiment in which the structure of neutron-rich nuclei located in the vicinity of N = 40 was studied. The importance of our results comes from the fact that knowing the behaviour of the neutron g9/2 orbital with increasing neutron number is one of the key points in defining the structure of these nuclei at low excitation energy. Abstract

The structure of nucleus 25F was studied by use of in-beam -ray spectroscopy of the fragmentation of a 36S beam. The emitted rays were detected by BaF2 detectors. In the -ray spectrum obtained a wide bump between 3 and 4.5 MeV energy was observed corresponding to a set of γ rays, including their first and second escape peaks. In order to resolve the peaks and to determine the high-energy structure of 25F, the experimental spectra were compared to Geant4 simulations taking the complex line shape into account. The observed decomposition of the bump is in good agreement with the results of the two-step fragmentation experiment [Zs. Vajta et al., submitted to Phys. Rev. C]. In the framework of the two proton radioactivity studies, a Time Projection Chamber was recently developed at CENBG, in order to study the correlations between the two protons emitted. In fragmentation experiments performed at LISE3/GANIL, the 2p radioactivity of 45Fe and 54Zn was directly observed with the TPC. Abstract

The shell structure of the nucleus implies the existence of magic numbers. Since several years many indications have been accumulated, theoretically as well as through experiments at various laboratories around the world, that if one moves away from stability, the location of the magic numbers shifts as an inescapable consequence of the evolving nature of the nuclear force itself. In this respect, it is the balance between the tensor and spin-orbit components that seems particularly instrumental. Illustrative examples from recent experiments at Ganil, at the neutron-rich and proton-rich side of the nuclear chart for N or Z equal 20 or 28, will be presented here. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
