Conclusion: Vestibular evoked myogenic potential (VEMP) function results can vary between individuals with different middle ear conditions. Therefore, by analyzing VEMP results after paper patching, we can predict the condition of the middle ear in chronic otitis media (COM) patients. Objectives: VEMP responses decrease with impairment of sound transmission, such as in conductive hearing loss (CHL). COM with tympanic membrane (TM) perforation is a common disorder that causes various degrees of CHL. The aim of this study was to evaluate and clarify the VEMP responses in patients with COM with different middle ear pathology. Methods: This study included 50 patients with unilateral COM with TM perforation. Initial pure-tone audiometry (PTA) and VEMP responses were recorded. After paper patching, PTA and VEMP were re-performed. Each VEMP response was compared with those of the healthy controls. Moreover, VEMP responses between pre- and post-paper patching were compared. Results: There was a positive correlation between normalizing of VEMP parameters, such as p13 and VEMP asymmetry ratio (VAR), and reduction of air-bone gap in patients with COM after paper patching. Objectives:(1) To evaluate the effects of a platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) membrane in the repair of traumatic tympanic membrane (TM) perforations; and (2) to compare the use of a PRF membrane with the paper patch technique with regard to recovery rates, healing time, and correction of the mean air–bone gap. Methods:A randomized, prospective analysis was performed for 60 patients who were treated for traumatic TM perforations using one of the two methods. Closure rate, speed of healing, and hearing gain were compared between the PRF (Group 1) and paper patch (Group 2) groups. Results:Closure was obtained in 28 (93%) perforations in Group 1 and 25 (83%) perforations in Group 2 (p > 0.05). On day 10, full closure of the TM was observed in 24 (80%) patients in Group 1 and 16 (53%) patients in Group 2 (p < 0.05). The improvement in the mean air–bone gap was 14.1 dB in Group 1 and 12.4 dB in Group 2 on post-operative day 45 (p < 0.05). Conclusions:In comparison with the paper patch method, PRF, a new method, provided more rapid healing with more successful audiological results, and with no requirement for a second procedure. Conclusion: The airflow velocity and flux in maxillary sinuses were much lower than those in the nasal cavity, and the temperature in maxillary sinuses was much higher than the temperature in the middle meatus. With the increase of maximum diameter of the ostium, the above indices changed little. Objectives: The purpose of the paper was to investigate, first, the flow and temperature distribution inside normal maxillary sinus in inspiration, and second, flow and temperature alteration with the increase of maximum ostium diameter. Methods: Three-dimensional models with nasal cavities and bilateral maxillary sinuses were constructed for computational fluid dynamics analysis. Virtual surgeries were implemented for the maxillary ostium, the maximum diameters of which were 8, 10, 12, and 15 mm, respectively. The finite volume method was used for numerical simulation. The indices of velocity, pressure, vector, and temperature were processed and compared between models. Results: The airflow velocity in maxillary sinuses (average velocity 0.062 m/s) was much lower than that in the middle meatus (average velocity 3.26 m/s). With the increase of ostium diameter, airflow characteristics distributed in the maxillary sinuses changed little. Conclusion: A formulation based on sodium hyaluronate (NaHYA) was the most promising candidate vehicle for intra-tympanic drug administration regarding conductive hearing loss, inflammatory reactions, and elimination. Objectives: Recent advances in inner ear research support the idea of using the middle ear cavity for drug administration to target the inner ear. This paper presents rheological and safety assessments of three candidate polymer formulations for intra-tympanic drug administration. Method: The formulations were based on sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (NaCMC), sodium hyaluronate (NaHYA), and poloxamer 407 (POL). Rheological studies were performed with a controlled rate instrument of the couette type. Safety studies were performed in guinea pigs subjected to an intra-tympanic injection of the formulations. Hearing function was explored with ABR before and 1, 2, and 3 weeks after the injection. Elimination of the formulations marked with coal was explored with an endoscopic digital camera 1, 2, and 3 weeks after injection. Middle and inner ear morphology was examined with light microscopy 6 days after injection. Results: The results speak in favor of NaHYA, since it did not cause prolonged hearing threshold elevations. Conclusions: The mutation c.508_511dup in GJB2 gene has been incorrectly named as other mutations. It is essential to standardize mutation nomenclature to describe complex mutations. Objectives: This paper aimed to verify a series of patients with the frame-shift mutation c.508_511dup in the GJB2 gene and review the literature on related mutations. Methods: All the included patients with non-syndromic hearing loss (NSHL) carried the 504insAACG or c.508_511dup mutation of the GJB2 gene in the present study. Their parents were encouraged to participate. After written informed consent and clinic data had been obtained, genomic DNA was extracted from venous blood of participants. The target fragments were amplified by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and subjected to bidirectional sequencing to identify sequence variations. Results: A total of 14 patients with prelingual NSHL and 6 normal parents were recruited. Genotyping revealed that one mutation, c.508_511dup (not 504insAACG), was homozygous in 1 patient, heterozygous in 2 patients and 3 parents, and compound heterozygous in 11 patients. Twelve patients had hearing loss caused by c.508_511dup in a homozygous or compound heterozygous form, and further study showed that it was wrongly named as 504insAACG. Conclusion: By consulting an ENT-doctor, patients with chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS), in the general population, receive disease information and adjustment of treatment which can improve disease-specific Quality-of-Life and may improve objective measurements. Objectives: This study aims to follow persons with clinical diagnosed CRS from the general population, to evaluate their benefit from consultation with an ENT-doctor in terms of severity of symptoms and Quality-of-Life. Methods: As part of a trans-European study, selected respondents to a survey questionnaire were invited for a clinical visit. Based on the European Position Paper on Rhinosinusitis and Nasal Polyps, persons were diagnosed with CRS and followed for 2 years. Quality-of-Life was measured using the Sino Nasal Outcome Test 22 and European Quality-of-Life - 5 Dimensions. Clinical examination included rhinoscopy, acoustic rhinometry, peak nasal inspiratory flow, smell test, and skin prick test. Results: Out of 91 persons with CRS, only 42% had previously consulted an ENT-doctor, and 51% were in current treatment for CRS. Most patients were advised medical treatment and 20% underwent surgery. Conclusion: The egg shell membrane (ESM) patch may promote tympanic membrane (TM) healing in acute traumatic TM perforation. Objective: To evaluate the use of ESM for treating acute traumatic TM perforation. Methods: We reviewed charts of patients with traumatic TM injury from 2008 to 2011. Treatments were an ESM patch or a perforation edge approximation. We divided patients into two groups according to the treatment used. Each patient was matched by treatment onset and perforation size. We compared healing ratio, healing time, and frequency of otorrhea between the perforation edge approximation group and the ESM patch group. Matched t tests were used for analysis. Results: The healing ratio of the TM showed no significant difference between the two groups, but the time to heal was significantly shorter in the ESM patch group than in the perforation edge approximation group. Conclusions: Our data highlight that uvulopalatopharyngoplasty (UPPP) with harmonic scalpel (HS) is a reliable treatment in selected patients affected by obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and users of continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP). Objectives: The aim of this paper was to verify the efficacy and applicability of UPPP with HS in the treatment of patients affected by OSA and users of CPAP. Methods: A total of 21 patients with a retropalatal obstruction and users of CPAP underwent UPPP with HS and were evaluated (before and 6 months after surgery) using the apnea/hypopnea index (AHI); oxygen desaturation index ≥4% (ODI4); Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS); snoring level (SL); subjective assessment of the postoperative pain on postoperative days 1, 3, and 10; and number of days until return to solid food. Results: Six months after surgery: AHI decreased significantly ( p < 0.05) from 31.8 ± 2.83 to 9.0 ± 0.68; ODI4 was 2.1 ± 0.4 vs a preoperative value of 24.0 ± 1.9; ESS scores were also significantly decreased ( p < 0.05) from 14.0 ± 3.7 to 4.7 ± 2.2; SL was significantly lower ( p < 0.05) 1.6 ± 0.3 vs 7.9 ± 0.8. Conclusion: Diazepam can reduce the excitability of lateral amygdala and eventually suppress the excitability of the auditory cortex in rats following salicylate treatment, indicating the regulating effect of lateral amygdala to the auditory cortex in the tinnitus procedure. Objective: To study the spontaneous firing rates (SFR) of the auditory cortex and lateral amygdala regulated by diazepam in the tinnitus rat model induced by sodium salicylate. Materials and methods: This study first created a tinnitus rat modal induced by sodium salicylate, and recorded SFR of both auditory cortex and lateral amygdala. Then diazepam was intraperitoneally injected and the SFR changes of lateral amygdala recorded. Finally, diazepam was microinjected on lateral amygdala and the SFR changes of the auditory cortex recorded. Results: Both SFRs of the auditory cortex and lateral amygdala increased after salicylate treatment. SFR of lateral amygdala decreased after intraperitoneal injection of diazepam. Conclusions: The preliminary finding of significantly lower eosinophilic-type CRSwNP recurrence rates in patients with associated asthma or ASA intolerance treated post-operatively with local nasal and oral steroids warrants further investigation in larger, prospective series. Objective: A high recurrence rate after functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS) has been widely reported in patients with eosinophilic-type chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP). This study compared the influence of two post-operative medical treatments – local nasal steroids alone vs local nasal and oral steroids – on the recurrence of eosinophilic-type CRSwNP. Method: Between January 2009–December 2010, 32 patients with eosinophilic-type CRSwNP received local steroid nasal therapy after FESS (Group A); from January 2011 onwards, another 28 patients were treated post-operatively with the same nasal treatment plus two cycles a year of oral steroids (Group B). All patients in both groups had a follow-up of at least 36 months. Results: Groups A and B did not differ significantly in recurrence rate (31.25% vs 32.14%, p = 1) or disease-free interval (p = 0.91), but Group B patients who were asthmatic or ASA-intolerant had a significantly lower recurrence rate than Group A patients with asthma or ASA intolerance (p = 0.04 and p = 0.004, respectively). Conclusion: Overexpression of receptor activator of nuclear factor-κB ligand (RANKL) and low expression of osteoprotegerin (OPG) are typical features in middle ear cholesteatoma patients. The altered RANKL/OPG protein ratio suggests that alterations in the RANKL-OPG pathway may be major factors in the pathogenesis of middle ear cholesteatoma. Objective: Our meta-analysis explored the contribution of one important cytokine pathway, the RANKL and OPG pathway, in the development of middle ear cholesteatoma. Methods: We screened Embase, the Cochrane Library, CISCOM, CINAHL, Google Scholar, China BioMedicine, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, PubMed, and Web of Science for relevant articles. RANKL expression and ratio of RANKL/OPG were analyzed using Comprehensive Meta-Analysis Version 2 software. Results: The electronic literature search identified five studies that contained information on the correlation of RANKL and OPG expression with middle ear cholesteatoma. Increased RANKL expression positively correlated with middle ear cholesteatoma, while OPG expression showed an inverse association ( p < 0.05). The ratio of RANKL/OPG in middle ear cholesteatoma cases was higher than in healthy controls, indicating that our observations are applicable to each individual case. Subgroup analysis based on country of study revealed that OPG levels decreased in China and Korea, and high RANKL expression was found in Poland, China, and Korea (all p < 0.05). ConclusionThe recurrence rates of chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) were higher in the aspirin nasal provocation test (ANPT)-positive group, regardless of the presence of nasal polyps. Thus, a careful endoscopic examination is required during follow-up in ANPT-positive patients with CRS.ObjectivesThe aim of this study was to evaluate the clinical features and prognosis after surgical treatment in patients with CRS and aspirin hypersensitivity.MethodsIn a prospective study, 100 patients were analyzed with CRS who underwent endoscopic sinus surgery at the hospital from October 2012 to March 2013. This study measured changes in nasal volume and symptoms before and after the ANPT and examined patient’s asthma history, allergy, Lund–Mackay score (LMS), total immunoglobulin E, percentage of peripheral eosinophils, and objectively measured relapse at 6 months.ResultsPatients wwith CRS and nasal polyps (CRSwNP) were more likely to have a positive ANPT test result compared to those without nasal polyps (CRSsNP) (21.4% vs 5.5%). The ANPT-positive group had a higher LMS and required more revision endoscopic sinus surgery than those in the ANPT-negative group. Objective: In the present study, we aimed to clarify the expression of thymic stromal lymphopoietin (TSLP), a key trigger of Th2-type allergic disease, in the middle ear mucosa of eosinophilic otitis media (EOM). Methods: An immunohistological study of TSLP was conducted in patients with EOM and in animal models of EOM constructed by intraperitoneal and intratympanic injection of ovalbumin for 7 and 14 days. In addition, the messenger RNA (mRNA) expression of TSLP in the middle ear mucosa of the animal models was analyzed using real-time PCR, and was compared with that of the control animals. Results: Immunoreactivities for TSLP were observed in the middle ear mucosa around the tympanic ostium of the eustachian tube of patients with EOM. In the animal model, strong immunoreactivity for TSLP was also observed in the eustachian tube epithelium, and mRNA expression of TSLP in the seven-day stimulated animals was significantly higher than that in the controls. Background: Multifocal human papillomavirus (HPV) infection into the palatine and pharyngeal tonsils, which might be linked to a second primary tumor of HPV-positive oropharyngeal cancer (OPC), was investigated. Patients and methods: One hundred and five patients with various head and neck diseases including 14 patients with OPC were enrolled in this study. Swabs from the palatine and pharyngeal tonsils were collected in each individual, and auto-nested GP5+/GP6+ PCR for HPV DNA was performed. Results: HPV DNA was detected in the palatine tonsil or the pharyngeal tonsil in a small subset of upper respiratory tract cancer other than OPC (URTC) and non-cancer diseases. Furthermore, HPV DNA was detected in both the palatine and pharyngeal tonsils in the same individual in 2 of 48 (4%) URTC cases, and 1 of 43 (2%) non-cancer cases. On the other hand, p16-positive OPC cases demonstrated a higher HPV DNA detection rate (4 of 9, 44.4%) compared with other disease groups. Conclusion: HPV DNA detection in both the palatine and pharyngeal tonsils in the same individual, especially in HPV-OPC, suggested the ability of HPV to infect tonsillar tissues of Waldeyer’s ring multifocally. Background: There has been no treatment found yet that cure dementia. Hence it is important to establish the evaluation index of cognitive decline before becoming dementia. Objective: The purpose of this study was to clarify the effective balance test indicating early cognitive decline by gender. Methods: A total of 218 volunteers (60 years of age and above) who participated in the Iwaki promotion health project in 2015 were recruited. We performed three balance tests: one leg standing test, functional reach test and static posturography, and we used mini-mental state examination (MMSE) to investigate cognitive function. Results: As a result of analysis of covariance, there was a statistically significant trend in only men that the more the MMSE score declined, the longer became the path length with both eyes opened and closed. In the result of multiple regression analysis, there was a significant negative association with MMSE score and path length with eyes opened or closed in men. There was no significant association with MMSE scores and balance tests in women. Conclusion: Transcutaneous vagal nerve stimulation (tVNS) might offer a targeted, patient-friendly, and low-cost therapeutic tool for tinnitus patients with sympathovagal imbalance. Objectives: Conventionally, VNS has been performed to treat severe epilepsy and depression with an electrode implanted to the cervical trunk of vagus nerve. This study investigated the acute effects of tVNS on autonomic nervous system (ANS) imbalance, which often occurs in patients with tinnitus-triggered stress. Methods: This study retrospectively analysed records of 97 patients who had undergone ANS function testing by heart rate variability (HRV) measurement immediately before and after a 15–60 min tVNS stimulation. Results: The pre-treatment HRV recording showed sympathetic preponderance/reduced parasympathetic activity in about three quarters (73%) of patients. Active tVNS significantly increased variability of R-R intervals in 75% of patients and HRV age was decreased in 70% of patients. Either the variability of R-R intervals was increased or the HRV age decreased in 90% of the patients. These results indicate that tVNS can induce a shift in ANS function from sympathetic preponderance towards parasympathetic predominance. tVNS caused no major morbidity, and heart rate monitoring during the tVNS treatment showed no cardiac or circulatory effects (e.g. bradycardia) in any of the patients. Conclusion: Finnish head and neck cancer (HNC) patients show signs of severe malnutrition already at presentation, measured by bioelectric impedance analysis (BIA). BIA may be a practical method to detect malnutrition, analyze body composition, and to identify high-risk patients in this population. Objectives: BIA is a validated method for evaluating body composition and detecting malnutrition. Low phase angle (PA) is associated with increased mortality and morbidity. Vector analysis (BIVA) provides a qualitative measure for hydration and cell mass, independent of body size. This study describes BIA results in Finnish HNC patients at presentation. Methods: Forty-one newly-diagnosed HNC patients at the Helsinki University Hospital were included. BIA measures (resistance, reactance, PA, fat-free mass index [FFMI], and fat mass index [FMI]), body mass index (BMI), and Charlson Comorbidity Index (CCI) were determined. Results: The majority of patients were men (78%), with a normal average BMI of 25.2. Low FFMI was seen in 44% of women and 28% of men. The PA (median = 4.6; IQ range = 4–5) was lower than the reference values in 76% (n = 31) of cases. Conclusion: The resection of the medial and lateral pyriform sinus was associated with post-operative voice impairment after TOVS. Scar contracture around the cricoarytenoid joint lead to arytenoid fixation toward lateral position, and this wound healing process caused insufficient glottis closure. Although oncological and functional outcomes of TOVS was satisfactory, surgeons should mention the risk of post-operative voice impairment in pre-operative counseling. Objectives: Transoral surgery is a minimally invasive treatment option for hypopharyngeal and supraglottic cancer. Post-operative vocal function was satisfactory in most cases, but in some cases vocal cord was fixed and occasionally voice impairment persists. Methods: Vocal function of 55 patients who underwent transoral videolaryngoscopic surgery (TOVS) for hypopharyngeal and supraglottic cancers was evaluated by the GRBAS perceptive scale, aerodynamic tests and acoustic analyses, and the Voice Handicap Index questionnaire. The risk factors for voice impairment were identified. Results: Voice impairment (G score ≧2) was found in 16 cases (29.1%). Univariate analysis revealed that the resection of medial and lateral pyriform sinus (p =.0018) and neck dissection (p =.0421) were associated with post-operative voice impairment. Conclusions: The satisfaction rate of the subjects with an auditory implant appears strictly related to the resulting auditory improvement, and the surgical variables would play a prevailing role in respect to the esthetic factors. Objectives: To assess the rate of satisfaction in subjects who underwent the surgical application of an auditory device at a single Implanting Center Unit. Method: A series of validated questionnaires has been administered to subjects who underwent the surgical application of different auditory devices. The Glasgow Benefit Inventory (GBI), the Visual Analog Scale (VAS), and the Abbreviated Profile of Hearing Aid Benefit (APHAB) have been used to compare the implanted situation with the hearing-aided one; a percutaneous bone conductive implant (pBCI) with an active middle ear implant (AMEI) on the round window in mixed hearing loss; and an invisible, fully-implantable device with a frankly and bulky semi-implantable device. Results: The mean GBI scores were higher in Vibrant Soundbridge (VSB)® and Bonebridge® subjects, without significant differences among the various devices. The mean VAS score increased for all the devices in comparison with the conventional hearing aid. The mean APHAB score was similarly better in the implanted condition as total and partial scores. Conclusion: Low-dose administration of Aspartame (Ap) did not produce a significant ototoxic effect at the end of the 6th month. However, duration of the ototoxic effect is shortened and severity of the effect is increased as dose and duration of Ap administration is increased. Objectives: While Ap toxicity has been studied in short- and long-term studies, its effects on hearing have not been investigated. This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of long-term consumption of Ap administered in various doses on hearing status of rats. Methods: The study included 54 female Wistar Albino rats. Ap was given for 6 months to the rats. The groups were assigned according to levels of Ap dosage. DPOAE and ABR tests were utilized for serial hearing evaluations. Serial hearing measurement times were designed as baseline, 1st week, 2nd week, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 6th months. Results: While audiological parameters deteriorated with 100 mg/kg/day dose after the 3rd month, ABR thresholds were elevated and DPOAE values were significantly decreased in 500 mg/kg/day and 1000 mg/kg/day applications after the 2nd month. Conclusions: External ear canal exostosis is more prevalent in northern coastal groups than in the highlands, suggesting that ocean activities facilitate the appearance of exostosis. However, southern coastal groups exposed to colder ocean water have a lesser incidence of exostosis, possibly due to less duration of exposure. There was a high incidence of otitis media in all groups of native population in Chile. One coastal group had a higher incidence, presumably due to racial factors. Background: This is a paleopathological and paleoepidemiological study in temporal bones which assesses external ear canal exostosis and otitis media in prehistoric and historic native populations in Chile. Materials and methods: A total of 460 temporal bones were evaluated for exostosis (ex) and 542 temporal bones were evaluated for otitis media (om). The study involved four groups: (1) Prehistoric Coastal (400–1000 AD) populations in Northern Chile (Pisagua-Tiwanaku) (22 temporal bones ex; 28 om); (2) Prehistoric Highland (400–1000 AD) populations in Northern Chile (292 temporal bones ex; 334 om); (3) Pisagua-Regional Developments (coastal) in Northern Chile (1000–1450 AD) (66 temporal bones ex; 82 om); and (4) Historic (1500–1800 AD) coastal populations in Southern Chile (80 temporal bones ex: 18 Chonos, 62 Fuegians. 98 om: 22 Chonos, 76 Fuegians). Skulls were evaluated visually and with an operating microscope. In addition, the otitis media group was evaluated with Temporal bone radiology – -lateral XRays-Schuller view – to assess pneumatization as evidence of previous middle ear disease. Results: Prehistoric northern coastal groups had an incidence of exostosis of 15.91%, the northern highlands group 1.37%, and the southern coastal group 1.25%. There were changes suggestive of otitis media in: Pisagua/Tiwanaku 53.57%; Pisagua/Regional Developments 70.73%; Northern Highlands population 47.90%; Chonos 63.64%; and Fuegian tribes 64.47%. Conclusions: This study recommends using soft surgical principal and round window insertion to protect residual hearing with favorable anatomical exposure. Further studies are needed to evaluate the impact of the electrical stimulation on the organ of corti and hearing. Objective: The objective of this study is to analyze various factors that impact on preservation of residual hearing post-implantation. Methods: A retrospective study was performed to analyze loss of residual hearing in a cohort of 225 patients implanted in a large academic center. Sixty-four patients met the inclusion criteria. The impact of age at implantation, gender, etiology of hearing loss, cochleostomy vs round window insertion, partial vs full insertion, and effect of initial stimulation were analyzed using appropriate statistical analysis. Results: The overall hearing preservation rate for all implanted patients was 64%. Loss of residual hearing was significantly more observed in cases of cochleostomy and/or non-soft surgical techniques. No correlation was observed with age at implantation, gender, side of implant, device manufacturer, and presence of pre-lingual deafness vs post-lingual, full or partial electrode insertion. Conclusion: Middle fossa approach (MFA) shows a hearing preservation rate of 86% and facial nerve function was preserved with HB grade I or II in 93%. MFA is a good treatment option for intra-canalicular vestibular schwannomas when surgical excision is needed. Background: Surgical outcomes of vestibular schwannoma have progressively improved with the advancement of microsurgical instruments. MFA is known to have better chances to preserve hearing, while it has limited access to the posterior fossa, limitation of tumor size, and higher risk of post-operative facial nerve weakness. Objectives: To investigate surgical outcomes and clinical efficiency of MFA in vestibular schwannoma. Methods: A retrospective study was done in 14 patients who underwent MFA for vestibular schwannoma in Asan Medical Center. Results: The median age at diagnosis was 46.3 years. At initial presentation, 57% of the patients had vertigo, 43% hearing disturbance, and 64% tinnitus. The mean tumor size was 9.7 mm. The tumors were completely resected in 86% of the patients. Hearing was post-operatively preserved in 12 patients and two patients lost their hearing following surgery. Facial nerve function post-operatively remained unchanged in 12 patients (86%). Conclusion: Closed reduction is effective and safe for the treatment of arytenoid dislocation, and the selection of an appropriate time window to perform closed reduction is crucial in achieving relatively stable treatment outcomes and short treatment duration. Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate whether there is an appropriate time window to perform closed reduction for unilateral arytenoid dislocation caused by intubation. Methods: A retrospective chart review was carried out for the cases collected from September 2014 to May 2016 at Second Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University, China. Results: Thirty-five patients with arytenoid dislocation were identified. Endotracheal intubation was the cause for 33 of the patients and gastric tube caused arytenoid dislocation in two patients. The patients were treated by closed reduction, and no major complications resulting from surgical intervention were observed. All patients regained normal voice and vocal fold movement after the surgery, except one patient who recovered spontaneously. As one of the most significant findings in the current study, we observed the relatively stable treatment outcomes and shortened recovery duration were obtained in the patients treated during a period between the 13th day and 26th day after arytenoid dislocation.
