El propósito de esta investigación fue evaluar las dimensiones de calidad de vida y su relación con las cogniciones acerca de la enfermedad en 30 pacientes entre los 48 y los 82 años diagnosticados con Hiperplasia Prostática, a quienes se les aplicó el Short Form Health Survey (SF-36), Illness Cognitive Questionnaire (ICQ) y el International Prostate Sympton Score (I-PSS). Los resultados evidenciaron un deterioro importante en la calidad de vida de estos pacientes. La cognición hacia la enfermedad tuvo una puntuación media en todas sus dimensiones y hubo una valoración severa respecto a los síntomas del prostatismo. En conclusión, la percepción desfavorable de la Hiperplasia Prostática aumenta con la gravedad de su sintomatología física y especialmente por el impacto de ésta en los factores psico-sociales asociados, afectando así la calidad de vida de las personas que padecen esta enfermedad. The purpose of this research was to evaluate the dimension of quality of life and its relationship with cognitions regarding their illness in 30 patients between the ages of 48 and 82 years old who had been given the diagnosis of Prostate Hyperplasia and who were administered the Short Form Health Survey (SF-36), the Illness Cognitive Questionnaire (ICQ) and the International Prostate Symptom Score (I-PSS). Results showed an important deterioration in the quality of life of these patients. Cognitions about the disease got an average score in all their dimensions and a very negative appraisal of the prostate symptoms was found. In conclusion, the unfavorable perception of the Prostate Hyperplasia increases with the severity of the physical symptoms especially due to the impact these have on the associated psychosocial factors, thus affecting the quality of life of the people who suffer from this disease.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between quality of life related to health, illness perception, happiness, anxiety and depression in 62 patients diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. The study design was descriptive correlational. Instruments: The Quality of Life in Rheumatoid Arthritis Scale -QOL-RA, Brief Illness Perception Questionnaire -IPQ-B, Subjective Happiness Scale -SHS and The Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale -HADS. Results: There was a high quality of life related to health in these patients, as some domains of QOL-RA such as support, social life and mood have demonstrated a significant impact on HRQOL. In the multiple linear regression model negative weight of anxiety and positive happiness with QOL-RA were appreciated. Conclusion: psychological factors such as anxiety and happiness have significant weight on the perceived quality of life of patients with RA.
