An efficient taurine-catalyzed green multicomponent approach has been described for the first time to synthesize densely substituted therapeutic core dihydropyrano[2,3-c]pyrazoles. Applications of the developed synthetic strategies and technologies revealed the synthesis of a series of newly designed 1,4-dihydropyrano[2,3-c]pyrazoles containing isonicotinamide, spirooxindole, and indole moieties. Detailed in silico analysis of the synthesized analogues revealed their potential to bind wild-type and antibiotic-resistant variants of dihydrofolate reductase, a principal drug target enzyme for emerging antibiotic-resistant pathogenic Staphylococcus aureus strains. Hence, the synthesized dihydropyrano[2,3-c]pyrazole derivatives presented herein hold immense promise to develop future antistaphylococcal therapeutic agents.

Our society is critically dependent on lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) as a power source for portable electronic gadgets. One of the major problems with these batteries is the degradation of the materials inside them. In addition to the reduced cell life, building-up of these degraded products inside the cells is very detrimental to the safe operation. Herein, we report the synthesis and characterization of a novel thiourea-based room temperature ionic liquid (IL), 3-heptyl-1-(3-(3-heptyl-3-phenylthioureido)propyl)-1H-imidazole-3-ium hexafluorophosphate. Its electrochemical and thermal properties including transport phenomena have been studied. It is proposed to be used as a nominal additive to commercially used electrolytes, ethylene carbonate and di-methyl carbonate mixtures. The comparative performance characteristics of the LIBs in the presence and the absence of this IL additive have been demonstrated with a traditional lithium nickel cobalt manganese oxide cathode (NMC111), a graphite anode, and an ethylene carbonate and di-methyl carbonate (1:1, v/v) electrolyte. It is further demonstrated that use of this electrolyte additive in batteries helps to address some of the major concerns of the conventional electrolytes such as safety issues and cycling performance as well as coulombic efficiency with enhanced discharge capacities.

Nanocrystalline coordination polymers (NCCPs) have been considered as an incredible electrochemical sensor for the effective detection of biologically dynamic drug 6-mercaptopurine (6-MP). In the present report, a significantly stable infinite arrayed coordination polymeric network was self-assembled via metal with efficient organic tecton 4-amino-3-hydrazino-5-mercapto-1,2,4,-triazole (AHMT) in which silver(I) ions are coordinated by AHMT via hydrazino and exocyclic thiol linkage to form AHMT-Ag NCCP. An efficient and highly sensitive detection of 6-MP is attained owing to eminent electron channeling via polymeric nanocrystallite pores. An effective charge transfer leads to an interface of the AHMT-Ag nano-pores and electrolyte anchored electrode via π-π electron coupling and hydrophobic interaction. The voltammogram exposes acute redox behavior of 6-MP and discloses an impeccable illustration for the AHMT-Ag facilitated oxidation of 6-MP. This unique signature was applied in voltammetric detection of 6-MP in blood serum, human urine, and pharmaceutical formulation (tablet) by a considerable high sensitivity of 0.074, 0.058, and 0.036 μA/μM and a detection limit of 87, 97, and 37 nM, respectively. Thus, the prepared AHMT-Ag NCCP can provide a valuable platform for fabrication of highly sensitive electrochemical devices to assay biologically essential drug molecules.

Nanobiocomposites with balanced mechanical characteristics are fabricated from poly(lactic acid) (PLA)/poly(butylene succinate) (PBS)blend at a weight ratio of 80/20 in association with varying concentrations of functionalized chitosan (FCH) through reactive extrusion at a temperature of 185 °C. The combined effect of FCH and dicumyl peroxide (DCP) showed insignificant change in tensile strength with a remarkable increase in % elongation at break (∼45%) values. Addition of DCP also caused increase in the molecular weight (Mw ∼ 22%) of the PLA/PBS/1DFCH nanobiocomposite, which is attributed to the cross-linking/branching effect of FCH on the polymers. The interfacial polymer–filler adhesion is also improved, which is observed from the field-emission scanning electron microscopy images of PLA/PBS/1DFCH. For PLA/PBS/1DFCH, the crystallization rate and nucleation density of PLA are increased because of cross-linked/branched structures are developed, which acted as nucleating sites. Therefore, the present work facilitates a simple extrusion processing with a combination of balanced thermal and mechanical properties, improved hydrophobicity (∼27%), and UV-C-blocking efficiency, which draw the possibility for the utilization of the ecofriendly nanobiocomposite in the packing of UV-sensitive materials on a commercial level.
