Gesture sensors are essential to collect human movements for human-computer interfaces, but their application is normally hampered by the difficulties in achieving high sensitivity and an ultrawide response range simultaneously. In this article, inspired by the spider silk structure in nature, a novel gesture sensor with a core-shell structure is proposed. The sensor offers a high gauge factor of up to 340 and a wide response range of 60%. Moreover, the sensor combining with a deep learning technique creates a system for precise gesture recognition. The system demonstrated an impressive 99% accuracy in single gesture recognition tests. Meanwhile, by using the sliding window technology and large language model, a high performance of 97% accuracy is achieved in continuous sentence recognition. In summary, the proposed high-performance sensor significantly improves the sensitivity and response range of the gesture recognition sensor. Meanwhile, the neural network technology is combined to further improve the way of daily communication by sign language users.

Hydrogenated silsesquioxane (HSQ) is a key inorganic electron beam resist, celebrated for its sub-10 nm resolution and etching resistance, but it faces challenges with stability and sensitivity. Our innovative study has comprehensively assessed the lithographic performance of three functionalized polysilsesquioxane (PSQ) resist series─olefins, halogenated alkanes, and alkanes─under electron beam lithography (EBL). We discovered that the addition of olefin groups, such as in the HMP-30 formulation with 30% propyl acrylate, remarkably increased the sensitivity to 0.6 μC/cm 2 . The inclusion of halogenated aromatic and hydrogen-substituted methyl groups further enhanced sensitivity and contrast, with HClBN-50 achieving a 22.9 nm resolution pattern. At the same time, the storage of PSQ resists was significantly improved compared to commercial HSQ with increasing alkane group content. Crucially, our research has unveiled the lithography reaction mechanism, highlighting how group encapsulation and steric hindrance influence PSQ performance. This insight is groundbreaking, offering a deeper understanding of the molecular structure-performance relationship and laying the groundwork for developing next-generation electron beam resists with superior sensitivity, resolution, and contrast for microelectronics manufacturing.

Thermoelectric generators (TEGs) are environmentally friendly energy harvesting technologies that hold great promise in the field of self-powered electronics and sensing. However, the current development of thermoelectric (TE) devices has largely lagged behind the development of thermoelectric materials, especially in the preparation of thermoelectric components with customizable shapes and excellent properties, which largely limits their practical applications. These issues can be effectively addressed by using 3D printing technology. Here, we print multiple p-type thermoelectric legs (pins) consecutively with this simple technique, and the printed TEGs have excellent thermal potential (288 μV K -1 at room temperature) and excellent temperature response properties, which exhibited an output voltage of 127.94 mV at a temperature difference (Δ T ) of 40 K. The 3D-printed thermoelectric generator enables the collection of thermal energy. In addition, the device has excellent temperature sensing characteristics, and this temperature signal to electrical signal conversion is very rapid, which enables temperature sensing alarms in a wide temperature domain. Combining these features, an energy harvesting and electrical alarm concept for home-scale applications is proposed, which is expected to provide a diverse research idea for the application of next-generation thermoelectric devices.

The health-threatening air pollution, especially from particulate matter (PM), has triggered increasing demands for developing low-cost and long-service-life air-cleaning technologies. In the present contribution, a range of high-efficiency textiles/metal-organic framework (MOF) composites (MOFs@textiles) air filters with excellent washable reusability is presented. By processing MOFs onto textile substrates via an eco-friendly solvent-free method to enable the microporous feature and also strong PM adhesion, we develop flexible, highly effective air filters with >95.00% PM removal efficiency (e.g., MiL-53(Al)@Aramid, PM 2.5 : 95.30%, PM 10 : 96.11%) under harmful air quality conditions (average PM 2.5 mass concentration > 280 μg m -3 and PM 10 > 360 μg m -3 ). Therefore, these MOFs@textiles are promising composites for producing efficient and recyclable out-/indoor air purifiers.

Enhanced capabilities of stain removal and comfort control are simultaneously achieved by the light and thermo dual-responsive copolymer poly(triethylene glycol methyl ether methacrylate- co-ethylene glycol methacrylate- co-acrylamide azobenzene) (P(MEO 3 MA- co-EGMA- co-AAAB)) cross-linked on cotton fabrics. P(MEO 3 MA- co-EGMA- co-AAAB) is synthesized by sequential atom transfer radical polymerization with a molar ratio of 8 (MEO 3 MA):1 (EGMA):1 (AAAB). The MEO 3 MA units induce a thermoresponsive behavior to the copolymer. The hydrophilicity of the copolymer films can be further improved by the light-induced trans- cis isomerization of the AAAB units with UV radiation. The copolymer is facilely immobilized onto cotton fabrics with 1,2,3,4-butane tetracarboxylic acid as cross-linker. Due to the immobilization of P(MEO 3 MA- co-EGMA- co-AAAB), the hydrophilicity of the fabric surface is increased under UV radiation. Therefore, by simply installing a UV light source in the washing machine, better capability of stain removal is realized for the cross-linked cotton fabrics. It can prominently reduce the consumption of energy, water, and surfactants in laundry. In addition, the trans-AAAB units of the copolymer cause the cross-linked P(MEO 3 MA- co-EGMA- co-AAAB) layer to be more hydrophobic under ambient conditions. Hence, the copolymer can more easily collapse and form a porous structure on the fabrics. Thus, the air permeability of cotton fabrics cross-linked with P(MEO 3 MA- co-EGMA- co-AAAB) is enhanced by 13% at human body temperature as compared to P(MEO 3 MA- co-EGMA), giving improved comfort control during daily wear.

Bioinspired polyphenol/polyamine codeposition has been demonstrated by the competence for surface modification; however, the reaction processes including mechanism and kinetics remain superficially understood. In this work, the catechol (CA)-amine reaction has been thoroughly investigated by using CA and two amines m-phenylenediamine and piperazine. We verify that both primary and secondary amines are prone to link with CA through Michael addition to form polyphenol/polyamine oligomers under aerobic and mild-alkaline conditions. Molecular simulations indicate that the Michael addition products are dominant for both aromatic and aliphatic amines with CA, which supports the durable chem- and phystability of the codeposited coatings. The aggregation kinetics of polyphenol/polyamine is provided for the first time, and the formed aggregates show high-adhesive properties, which can be deposited as the skin layers for high-performance nanofiltration membranes.

Porous separators are key components for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) and they have drawn considerable attention because of their vital role in governing battery cost and performance (e.g., power density, safety, and longevity). Here, zirconia-coated separators were fabricated via a facile biomineralization process with the aim to improve the performance of commercialized polypropylene separators. The as-prepared organic-inorganic composite separators show excellent thermal stability, even at the melting temperature (160 °C) of polypropylene. This is due to the well-distributed zirconia coatings on the separator surfaces. Furthermore, the interfacial impedance of the composite separators is only 343.8 Ω, which is four times lower than the pristine polypropylene ones. The results demonstrate an attractive method to prepare organic-inorganic composite separators with outstanding properties, which makes them promising candidates for high-performance LIBs.

A Janus membrane with opposing wettability was first reported with both function of water-to-oil and oil-to-water emulsification. This membrane is conveniently fabricated by single-surface deposition of polydopamine/polyethylenimine (PDA/PEI). The asymmetric wettability can also reduce the transmembrane resistance during the process, indicating an economical and promising strategy to prepare various emulsions. This research opens a novel avenue for exploring and understanding the Janus membrane, and provides a perspective to design the asymmetric membrane structures with promoted performance in conventional membrane processes.
