- Abstract
In Japan, the introduction of large capacity photovoltaic (PV) power generation is planned to reduce environmental burdens. The Japanese government has set the target of 53 GW of PV power generation per annum by 2030. However, large penetration of PVs will cause several problems in power systems. One of these problems is that voltage values increase with the growth of PV usage. This increase is caused by load demands decreasing due to the active power outputs of PVs. Thus, we focus on the upper voltage limit for a large penetration of PVs in terms of voltage stability. In this paper, we consider static capacitors as control equipment, and we propose a static capacitor control method using the voltage margin proximity index (VMPI) and its derivative VMPI-i. Simulations are run using the Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan West 10-machine O/V system model to confirm the validity of the proposed method. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]
