- Abstract
The goal of post-secondary institutions offering undergraduate courses and programs is to provide students the ability to develop a varied skill set–from writing, to communicating effectively to problem-solving and to developing analytical skills–in order to be ready for pursuing graduate programs or having the necessary tools to be successful in a diverse and increasingly complex workforce. As educators teaching economics at an undergraduate level, we are exposed to many challenges –budgetary, student retention, keeping students engaged, and enhancing students'learning experience. The different technologies that are now available, the diverse variety of online resources that have been developed, along with the evolution of different modes of course and program delivery has enhanced the scope of teaching and learning. The different learning modes include in-person, face-to-face, online, remote, synchronous or asynchronous, or hybrid modes, such as blended learning and flipped or inverted classrooms. This book, through contributions by selected academics, offers a detailed analysis into several specific areas of course delivery, providing valuable insights for teaching and learning for students, faculty and administrators. It covers topics such as developing appropriate learning outcomes for individual students, and tools to enhance students'motivation, engagement and performance. An in-depth analysis of various teaching pedagogies is explored, from blended learning, to flipped classrooms, to creating different learning environments, based on a Universal Design of Learning framework from student learning assessments. The book finishes with presenting valuable pedagogical insights into the design and implementation of a research seminar course tailored for advanced undergraduate students in economics. The primary goal is to provide these students with a platform to conduct community-based research and enable them to contribute to a contemporary economic issue or policy debate that is relevant to the community.

- Abstract
The COVID-19 crisis was unplanned, unprecedented, and highly unpredictable, leading educators to rethink their pedagogies, policies, practices, technologies, strategies and more. In the months and years following, educational institutions were forced to adjust to new ways of doing their work, refinements with long-term implications for language learning and teaching. Much of the early research in language education which came about as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic focused on its negative effects, such as the lack of infrastructure and preparedness (Tao & Gao, 2022), (in)equitable access for educators and learners (Back, Zavala, & Franco, 2022), perceived lowered outcomes (Moser, Wei & Brenner, 2021), and emotional burdens (MacIntyre, Gregersen, & Mercer, 2020). In this volume, we capture some of the lessons learned during and as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic in order to move forward as a field with intention and purpose, and to take advantage of any crisis-prompted innovation. The volume aims to provide implications for other current and future challenges and crises that require our attention in language teaching and technology. Contributions will bring additional depth to the pandemic discussion in each of the four parts: (1) Emergency Response, (2) Problem Solving, (3) Outcomes, and (4) By-Products.

- Abstract
This book outlines a model for a teacher residency and how to establish a yearlong residency within an educator preparation program. It describes the four-year experiences of stakeholders at Tarleton State University but can be used as a step-by-step guide, in whole or in part, to transforming teacher preparation at any university. After a brief description of the “traditional” clinical model and why a university may look to make a change, the book offers a roadmap for the entire process of moving to a residency model. The chapters provide detailed explanations of how to build mutually beneficial partnerships with school districts, utilize co-teaching models, and create revised roles for cooperating teachers, teacher-residents, university and district leaders, and site coordinators. Contributing authors also cover change processes (successes and failures), funding models, scaling, sustainability, data collection, and evidence of effectiveness. Based on Tarleton's recognition as one of the fastest-scaling residency programs and most complete transformations to date, the tools presented offer any teacher prep program the opportunity to make the leap to a residency model. This resource is also ideal for school district leaders seeking guidance on building or enhancing existing partnerships with universities, and for in-service teachers interested in discovering new co-teaching models.

- Abstract
This book explores the intersection of gender, digitalization, and resilience in international development. Building resilience is increasingly seen as crucial when planning and implementing development programmes, enabling communities to mitigate, adapt to, and recover from shocks and stresses in a manner that reduces chronic vulnerability and facilitates inclusive growth. Gender plays a crucial role in the resilience of development systems, as the exclusion of women from participation can make communities more vulnerable to economic shocks, perpetuating and even worsening current levels of poverty, instability, and insecurity. Drawing on meta-data from across the world, as well as specific case studies from Ghana, Kenya, Burkina Faso, and Mozambique, this book reflects on these intersections and the potential of digitalization as a democratizing tool for improving the access of women and other marginalized groups to information vital for their participation in the process of development. By outlining the importance of digitalization for addressing gender imbalances, this book draws the evidentiary lines between the role of digitalization for women and resilience as a whole. This book will be of interest to development practitioners and policy makers, as well as researchers with specialisms in gender inclusion, resilience, digitalization, and international development.

- Abstract
During the COVID-19 pandemic, public health recommendations for physical distancing created an urgent need for new and remixed online and distance ways of preparing, teaching, and assessing learning practices. This new context forced teacher educators, administrators, and public policymakers around the globe to rethink, reshape, and redesign curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices and modalities. While online education has been an option available to many for decades, no other moment in recent history has demanded such a rapid shift in educational practices, impacting tens of millions of teachers and hundreds of millions of students worldwide. Fortunately, in some cases, highly innovative advances in technological resources have supported educators in designing and implementing transformative approaches. In the field of language education, educators have had to reconceptualize online instruction so that digital and other multimodal resources are designed to fully engage multilingual students in optimal and equitable learning contexts. This edited book serves the purpose of focusing the research agendas of K-12 educators, teacher educators, and policymakers on the lessons and insights the field can gain from this crisis as we adapt to the post-pandemic future of language education. As argued over the past three years, the pandemic has exposed multiple structural issues related to accessibility, inequity, and poverty—ubiquitous issues that have existed in our societies for decades. It has also drawn attention to the notion of'competing priorities,'challenging our ability to determine what can and cannot be done in terms of human, financial, and logistical capacity around the globe. With this focus in mind, the aim of this edited book is to provide readers with robust and systematic thinking about the multifaceted strengths and challenges that have emerged during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. Specifically, informed by a critical perspective on societal power dynamics and equity, this edited book explores the following interconnected topics in multilingual/multicultural settings: (i) instructional strategies and curriculum adaptations (ii) in-service and pre-service teacher education practices (iii) classroom-based pedagogical innovations and assessment.

- Abstract

- Abstract
Consulting Students on Classroom Practice,'Good'Teaching, and Teacher Performance is about the consultation of students on teaching and learning matters in schools, as part of typical school life as opposed to students being consulted as part of a project that includes some kind of external support. Craig Skerritt makes not only a conceptual contribution by providing new thinking tools and a new way of understanding and articulating student voice in relation to classroom practice, and by developing and presenting a heuristic device to aid research on student voice and classroom practice, but a series of empirical contributions by reporting on interview data with a range of school-based actors to spotlight existing views, practices and issues, and to call attention to hopes, desires, and fears for the future. The book provides a critical account of student voice in contemporary schools. Student voice is not taken at face value or accepted as being undisputedly positive, nor are schools or the people in them treated as homogenous entities devoid of context. Significantly, researcher subjectivity is central vis-à-vis the generation, examination, interpretation, and presentation of the empirical data. There is no claim to objectivity in this book and it is subjectivity that comes to the fore - through what Skerritt coins the'I(nterest) behind this research', major emphasis is placed on his own experiences shaping his outlook. Skerritt occupies a certain vantage point and sees student voice through a particular lens, and this is reflected in the contents of this book.

- Abstract
This book fully explores the question(s) of time in educational research and achieves the acceleration and merging of inquiry with action to understand change and implement these findings through practice. It deals with the philosophy of education, higher education, schooling (the curriculum), time displacement, technology, the environment and policy. This book focuses on time revolution(s). It explores new ways of thinking about time, that question a linear/arrow in time, and sets into motion an educational research agenda to extract revolutions of time. Furthermore, this book figures the dimension of time in teaching and learning by extending and deepening the engagement with time in education. For example, it analyzes the climate crisis in terms of education and how the realization that the climate is changing sits parallel and adjacent to pedagogy. The climate crisis and how to do anything about it through education is an example of how considering the dimension of time opens up education beyond quick or narrow fixes and introduces a profound synthesis for the future.

- Abstract
Derived from the renowned multi-volume International Encyclopaedia of Laws, this convenient volume provides comprehensive analysis of the law affecting the physician-patient relationship in Ireland. Cutting across the traditional compartments with which lawyers are familiar, medical law is concerned with issues arising from this relationship, and not with the many wider juridical relations involved in the broader field of health care law. After a general introduction, the book systematically describes law related to the medical profession, proceeding from training, licensing, and other aspects of access to the profession, through disciplinary and professional liability and medical ethics considerations and quality assurance, to such aspects of the physician-patient relationship as rights and duties of physicians and patients, consent, privacy, and access to medical records. Also covered are specific issues such as organ transplants, human medical research, abortion, and euthanasia, as well as matters dealing with the physician in relation to other health care providers, health care insurance, and the health care system. Succinct and practical, this book will prove to be of great value to professional organizations of physicians, nurses, hospitals, and relevant government agencies. Lawyers representing parties with interests in Ireland will welcome this very useful guide, and academics and researchers will appreciate its comparative value as a contribution to the study of medical law in the international context.

- Abstract
This collection brings together historians, political scientists and legal scholars to explore the Anglo-American origins of impeachment and its use in the USA. Impeachment originated in England during the Good Parliament of 1376. It was used, subject to several periods of disuse, until the beginning of the nineteenth century. The British form of impeachment in turn inspired the drafters of the US Constitution and the inclusion of a mechanism permitting the removal of members of the federal executive and federal judiciary. These Anglo-American origins of impeachment have inspired many constitutions around the globe to include impeachment mechanisms which permit, in most cases, the legislature to remove the President, a Prime Minister, ministers and judges. This volume explores the origins, influence and practice of impeachment. Divided into three parts, the history of impeachment and how it developed in British history is the focus of part one. The inclusion of Ireland reflects the constitutional status of impeachment, the legacy of union with Great Britain and how impeachment can still serve as a deterrent. Part two examines the adoption of impeachment within the US Constitution and its use in practice. The third and final part discusses impeachment in the twenty-first century. The book will be an essential resource for students, academics and researchers in law, political science and history.

- Abstract
This book involves establishing a set of priorities and a roadmap that can guide scholarly and practical efforts towards sustainability goals. It encourages collaboration across disciplines to address complex sustainability issues that span social, economic, and environmental domains. It also supports the development of robust methodologies for conducting research, including quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods approaches. But despite the importance of and the need for an agenda for sustainable development research, many efforts are isolated and thematically disconnected. Also, it is difficult to find information on how sustainability research is being undertaken and on the wide range of methods being used. Against this backdrop and in order to facilitate a broad discussion on the contribution of sustainable development research, this book is being produced. The book gathers inputs from universities and research organisations working on matters related to sustainable development research in a variety of contexts. It also provides a platform for the dissemination of information on the latest initiatives, paving the way for technology transfer and networking. Furthermore, the book intends to provide a fertile basis upon which universities, research centres, and practitioners may cooperate more closely in this key area. Last but not least, a further aim of the book is to present methodological approaches and experiences deriving from case studies and projects, which aim to show how sustainability research may be implementing across a range of disciplines. Thanks to its scope and interdisciplinarity, this books makes an excellent reading to everyone interested on sustainability research.

- Abstract
Beginning with a review of the theory and pedagogic practices that have been influential in English for Academic Purposes (EAP) contexts, this book examines the practice of joint construction in a genre-based approach to literacy pedagogy. It investigates how teachers guide students to co-construct a text, drawing attention to the contested rationale for teachers taking a leading role when writing collaboratively with their students. Informed by systemic functional linguistics, the book puts forward an accessible approach to the analysis of classroom discourse that centres on the dynamic mediation of meaning. Through examples of classroom interaction involving international students who are studying EAP, and specifically as preparation for university entrance, it illuminates how classroom metalanguage and the organisation of classroom talk enables teachers to guide but not provide wording; metalanguage also enables students to critique and justify their choices as they'try out'new academic language, modify and improve their writing.
