It not only provides a novel cross-cultural insight into reviewing practices, assessing how translations are reviewed differently in the United Kingdom, France and Germany, but it also compares the way in which reviewers for different platforms assess translated works, from a popular platform open to reviews from the general public, through mainstream broadsheets and cultural supplements, to specialised literary magazines. The book takes its inspiration from The Translator's Invisibility: A History of Translation, in which Lawrence Venuti examines the reviewing of translations and contends that fluency is the main criterion against which translations are read and assessed by reviewers, ultimately rendering the translator «invisible». The book therefore provides a timely and thorough update to Venuti's study and offers insights into the status of translation in book reviews.

Many countries have legislation on national security, including economic security, energy security, social security, and political security, which are commonly regarded as “national security law” (NSL). With particular reference to Hong Kong, the Hong Kong National Security Law is something new to the Special Administrative Region of China. To help young people understand the Hong Kong National Security Law, it is explicitly stated in the Hong Kong National Security Law that education institutions, including universities, have the responsibility to implement education programs on the Hong Kong National Security Law. At the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, we have developed four NSL programs. First, we have designed a face-to-face program on law abidance leadership for 4-year undergraduate students. Second, we have designed an online program on law abidance leadership. Third and last, for postgraduate students, an online course plus self-study is required, and the same for research postgraduate students. In the past two years, we have already demonstrated the impact of the program for the 4-year students via objective outcome evaluation, subjective outcome evaluation, and qualitative evaluation. Besides the 4-year undergraduate program, there is a need to understand the impact of NSL education programs for the Senior-Year program, taught postgraduate programs, and research postgraduate programs. In this book, we collected several papers adopting different evaluation strategies to examine the impacts of NSL education programs in Hong Kong.

What contributions can LGBT activists make to eliminating the inequities that drive the HIV epidemic in countries that are hostile to sexual and gender minority rights? In Breaking Barriers: Sexual and Gender Minority-led Advocacy to End AIDS in Africa and the Caribbean, Robin Lin Miller and George Ayala tell the story of a transnational partnership among community activists from eight countries to address the entrenched stigma and discrimination that blocks sexual and gender minority people from accessing affirming HIV care. Through their extended case study of Project ACT, they demonstrate how activists contributed to social progress within their country environments, despite great obstacles. Documenting the project from its inception through to its untimely demise due to the Covid pandemic, Miller and Ayala highlight the many ups and downs endured by activists and their allies as they tried to promote access to health care in politically and culturally hostile national contexts and with limited financial resources. They raise questions about the role of donors and partners from the Global North in supporting progress on the ground in Global South countries. They also consider effective strategies for evaluating human rights-focused HIV advocacy in these fraught environments. Following progress in schizophrenia since 2015, this new volume covers the advancing knowledge of scientists and clinicians in drug discovery. The book enhances our understanding of pathological neural communication between the peripheral nervous system (PNS) and central nervous system (CNS) in patients with schizophrenia. Although 75% of neural information passes through the PNS, interactions between the PNS and CNS in schizophrenia remain understudied. Consequently, the current view of schizophrenia requires improvement to facilitate diagnostics and drug development. In this context, this second volume presents current evidence that views schizophrenia as a mild abnormal maldevelopment of the entire body. This includes impaired functioning of sensory systems (e.g. olfaction), and changes in blood biochemistry and the autonomic nervous system (e.g. vagal body-to-brain communication). Alternative approaches to prevent and treat schizophrenia involve advanced techniques such as opto- and chemo-genetics, as well as local administration of compounds (e.g. intranasally) targeting PNS-based cellular and molecular pathways. Chapters focus on the genetics of schizophrenia, leveraging technological advancements in high-throughput genomics and computational biology. These tools help identify novel therapeutic targets and enable the safe repurposing of existing medications.
