Ageing is the main reason for most neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer's disease (AD) and Parkinson's disease (PD). About 10% of individuals aged ≥65 years develop AD, which continuously increases with growing age. Medicinal plants have been used for age-related neurodegenerative disorders for a long time. These plants are rich in terms of various phytochemical constituents such as flavonoids, sterols, alkaloids, saponins, and terpenoids. Different scientific studies have been carried out on these medicinal herbs, e.g., anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and neuro-regenerative activities that may be used in the treatment of AD and other age-related diseases. Entomopathogenic nematodes, sometimes referred to as EPNs, are well recognized as key natural insect antagonists. They serve as very effective biological agents for controlling significant insect infestations in several countries worldwide. Steinernema and Heterorhabditis are two worldwide dispersed genera of entomopathogenic nematodes (EPNs). These EPNs possess the remarkable capacity to survive in extreme settings and exhibit tolerance towards severe environmental factors such as lack of oxygen (anoxybiosis), extreme temperatures (thermobiosis), and dehydration (desiccation). Through mutualistic associations with pathogenic bacterial species such as Xenorhabdus and Photorhabdus, these organisms enhance their ability to kill insect hosts, hence increasing their virulence.. Non-human primates (NHP) make up only a small, but important, part of the total number of animals used in biomedical and preclinical research. Due to their close phylogenetic relationship and the shared susceptibility to many human diseases, NHP can provide important research models to study these diseases and, as such, play a critical role in the advancement of various areas in the medical field. Studies in NHP have contributed to our understanding of various diseases and fundamental biological phenomena and they continue to be important in the development of new therapies, treatments, drugs and vaccines. Moreover, NHP models also contribute to our general knowledge of the processes that underlie non-disease and disease conditions. Important areas where NHP can provide important information include (emerging) infectious diseases, organ transplantation, neurological and aging-related disorders. Although not covered in this book due to time constraints, the need for, and benefits of, NHP models has been demonstrated most recently in the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic.
