This is a open access book. In the agriculture sector, the language of gender integration often ignores the politics and the power dynamics that are central to critical, and feminist, analysis of gender relations. Many of the polymers we use every day are highly flammable. Historically, a large number of home fires were caused by ignited polymeric materials until legislation was introduced requiring fire retardants to be added to these materials. Fire retardants increase the time it takes for materials to ignite, providing valuable time to prevent a fire or escape. However, it has become apparent that many of the traditional treatments used as fire retardants are harmful to human health and highly persistent in the environment. Malaria is one of most serious infectious diseases today and has afflicted humankind for thousands of years. A significant number of people still die from this mosquito-borne disease, despite the use of various malaria prevention and control methods over hundreds of years and more than a century of coordinated global control efforts using modern tools, together with research into and development of new strategies for prevention, diagnosis, and disease treatment. Genetic approaches that focus on the vector mosquitoes to prevent malaria parasite transmission have been considered for many decades. Genetic control strategies received a significant boost with the successful development of gene drive systems, genetic methods for rapidly spreading beneficial genes and phenotypes through mosquito populations. This book reviews some concepts of gene drive systems and describes pioneering applications to control mosquito populations and prevent parasite transmission.

This open access book engages with the concept of reproductive justice by exploring case studies of struggles around abortion in the context of rising anti-genderism, religious fundamentalism, and ethno-nationalism. Based on rich qualitative data offering in-depth analyses from different geographical, political and cultural contexts, the book explores how reproductive justice is understood, contested and given meaning. Chapters further develop the Black feminist concept of reproductive justice in a critical dialogue with postcolonial theory and explore the strength of transnational feminist practices. This book thus offers a fresh approach to the issue of abortion by engaging with contemporary political and cultural processes, and it expands the narrow notions of women's rights, particularly notions of property rights over bodies, towards an analysis of the political economy of social reproduction and how it affects bodies that can be pregnant. In a classical kinetic resolution, two enantiomers of a racemate are transformed into chiral products at different rates with a maximum theoretical yield of 50%. However, the need to reduce costs and waste in synthesis have led to efforts to develop novel resolution procedures proceeding beyond this 50% limited yield. This has led to the evolution of classical kinetic resolution into dynamic kinetic resolution (DKR), allowing a quantitative yield of one of the enantiomers. DKR combines the resolution step of kinetic resolution with an in-situ racemization of the chirally-labile substrate. It is only in the last two decades that chiral green organocatalysts have been demonstrated to be capable of promoting DKRs considerably expanding the synthetic scope of the powerful concept of DKR. Collecting all the developments in the field of DKR, this book shows that a wide variety of organocatalysts allow excellent levels of stereocontrol and yields in many types of transformations. It is a great resource for academics and industrialists interested in green enantioselective catalytic reactions.

En 2004 la publication de l'ouvrage le Français sur Objectif Spécifique (FOS) avait permis d'établir une distinction méthodologique entre le FOS et le français de spécialité et de faire émerger une démarche didactique prototypique de conception de formations en langue sur objectif spécifique. Cette démarche figure depuis cette date dans la plupart des maquettes de formation des futurs enseignants de FLE inscrits dans les masters de didactique du FLE et aucun ouvrage théorique n'a prolongé la réflexion menée sur cet axe didactique spécifique. Or depuis 2004 de nombreuses recherches en didactique du FOS / FOU ou dans des domaines scientifiques sollicités par le FOS, ont été développées et font évoluer le FOS vers une véritable ingénierie de formation intégrant des approches issues de la didactique professionnelle, la linguistique de corpus, la lexicométrie, l'analyse du travail et l'ergonomie, l'analyse de discours spécialisés, l'évaluation en langue et les référentiels de compétences. Cet ouvrage se propose de rassembler les apports des recherches menées actuellement et depuis 2004 en FOS, et donc de redéfinir la portée, le périmètre et l'impact de la démarche didactique qui a émergé en 2004. Il constitue ainsi un état de la recherche en didactique du FOS/FOU à l'orée des années 2020 et s'inscrit dans la perspective actionnelle et les préconisations du CECR-L, dont relève aujourd'hui l'essentiel des programmes d'enseignement des langues étrangères et des évaluations. Il permet aussi de combler un manque théorique et méthodologique, au moment où depuis plusieurs années les demandes de formation en FOS se multiplient en France et dans le monde. Imaging Culture is a sociohistorical study of the meaning, function, and aesthetic significance of photography in Mali, West Africa, from the 1930s to the present. Spanning the dynamic periods of colonialism, national independence, socialism, and democracy, its analysis focuses on the studio and documentary work of professional urban photographers, particularly in the capital city of Bamako and in smaller cities such as Mopti and Ségu. Featuring the work of more than twenty-five photographers, it concentrates on those who have been particularly influential for the local development and practice of the medium as well as its international popularization and active participation in the contemporary art market. This volume tackles a variety of biological and medical questions using mathematical models to understand complex system dynamics. Working in collaborative teams of six, each with a senior research mentor, researchers developed new mathematical models to address questions in a range of application areas. Sorghum is the most important cereal crop grown in the semi-arid tropics (SAT) of Africa, Asia, Australia and Americas for food, feed, fodder and fuel. It is the fifth most important cereal crop globally after rice, wheat, maize and barley, and plays a major role in global food security. Sorghum is consumed in different forms for various end-uses. Its grain is mostly used directly for food purposes. After the release of the proceedings of two international symposia in the form of books “Sorghum in Seventies” and “Sorghum in Eighties”, global sorghum research and development have not been documented at one place. Of course, few books on sorghum have been released that focus on specific issues/research areas, but comprehensive review of all aspects of recent development in different areas of sorghum science has not been compiled in the form a single book. This book is intended to fill in a void to bridge the gap by documenting all aspects of recent research and development in sorghum encompassing all the progress made, milestones achieved across globe in genetic diversity assessment, crop improvement and production, strategies for high yield, biotic and abiotic stress resistance, grain and stover quality aspects, storage, nutrition, health and industrial applications, biotechnological applications to increase production, including regional and global policy perspectives and developmental needs.
