Psychological Perspectives on Understanding and Addressing Violence Against Children argues that in order to achieve comprehensive responses to violence against children (VAC), scholars and practitioners must develop a robust understanding of how direct, structural, and cultural forms of violence interact across social systems. This understanding of VAC motivates a multi-sectoral response that seeks to promote intergenerational health and well-being through addressing violence in all its forms. This volume is organized into three interconnected sections that explore violence across socioecological domains: violence against children in social macrosystems, violence against children in social microsystems, and ways to address VAC in practice and policy. With chapters highlighting diverse methodological approaches, context-specific case studies, and approaches to redress violence through practice and policy, this volume is designed to be a resource for researchers, practitioners, and policymakers working to prevent VAC.

El reconocimiento de las violencias contra niñas, niños y adolescentes como un problema social, de salud y un asunto de derechos humanos es históricamente muy reciente, y en los estudios relacionados con el hogar, con frecuencia se les considera víctimas secundarias. En esta investigación, realizada en tres ciudades de Chiapas, México, se analizan con detalle la magnitud, características, ámbitos de expresión y relaciones ligadas a las violencias contra menores, en tanto víctimas primarias, considerando la vulnerabilidad asociada a su edad, género e indefensión, dentro de ámbitos específicos como la casa, el barrio o colonia y la ciudad, a los cuales subyacen diversas condiciones que dan lugar a dicha vulnerabilidad. El hogar resulta clave, no solamente como punto de ocurrencia o generación de situaciones críticas, sino de articulación y mediación entre otros espacios y normas socioculturales, pero siempre en el contexto de violencia estructural y el abandono del Estado. La condición socioeconómica, la desorganización social, la tolerancia, normalización e invisibilización de la violencia física y sexual, además de las desigualdades de género y étnicas, vinculan las problemáticas en entornos de cambio social, económico y sociodemográfico que complejizan la crianza y la protección de niñas, niños y adolescentes.

This book explores the importance of social and emotional learning (SEL) in schools to foster supportive environments and good relationships. Depression has always been at the center stage of psychiatry, with many resources allocated to its study and treatment. Depression and Anxiety: Prevalence, Risk Factors and Treatment first reviews the emerging Integrative Evolutionary-Stress Response-Predictive Processing Framework Theory, which may offer useful insights for clinical practice. Sexual problems and dissatisfaction with sex are commonly associated with depression. More awareness and a better understanding of this condition can lead to effective treatment and enhancement of quality of life. Following this, the authors compare benzodiazepine use in patients with major depression and anxiety disorders to determine which demographic features are related to benzodiazepine use and constitute risk factors for benzodiazepine dependence. Literature suggests correlations between the abnormalities in the hypothalamic–pituitary–adrenal axis and anxiety disorders, especially in terms of cortisol levels. As such, this compilation systematically assesses the available research data in the last 10 years, shedding light on the association between psychoneuroimmunology and anxiety. The closing article uses pooled data from 1983-2008 to assess the psychophysiological measures of anxiety. Various databases were searched for articles in English using search words related to psychophysiological measures of anxiety, markers for anxiety, physiological changes anxiety, and monitors of emotional change. The implications of the findings will contribute to further research on improved management for anxiety disorders.
