Dedicated to the memory of the late Professor Zbigniew Oziewicz from Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, the book consists of papers on a wide variety of topics related to the work of Professor Oziewicz, which were presented at the special conference on Graph-Operads-Logic (GOL 2021), selected through peer review to promote his scientific legacy.Professor Oziewicz was a great enthusiast and supporter of category theory and its applications in physics, as well as in various areas of mathematics (topology, noncommutative geometry, etc.). In particular, he made significant contributions to the theory of Frobenius algebras, which now are becoming more important due to their connection with topological quantum field theories that are used in mathematical physics and in quantum topology. Professor Oziewicz was a great and very generous teacher, who immersed his students in the beautiful ideas of category theory as well as mathematical physics and computation. It was his idea to start a series of conferences under the title Graphs-Operads-Logic, most of them held in Mexico, with some of them in the USA, which were a great platform to discuss various ideas connected with category theory and its various applications, and to make friends with other scientists. Despite his passing, the GOL 2021 conference is included in this series to pay tribute to his many contributions to diverse areas of science.The book is laid out in twelve main topics where we can find relevant works from distinguished experts.

This book is a tribute to Jack Steinberger (1921-2020) whose contributions play an important role in the development of particle physics. Together with Leon M Lederman and Melvin Schwartz, he was awarded the 1988 Nobel Prize in Physics for the discovery of the muon neutrino. The book begins with an introduction by Julia Steinberger and a collection of photographs of Jack Steinberger, followed by the sharing by Jack's former colleagues, students, and friends of their interactions with him on research in physics as well as many personal reminiscences. The second part of the book is a special collection of published works by Jack Steinberger and collaborators and a commentary by W-D Schlatter on Jack Steinberger's early papers, Nobel Prize experiment, CP-violation in kaon decay, CDHS neutrino experiment, and ALEPH e⁺e⁻ experiment.

C N Yang is a towering figure of science who has significantly extended human understanding of nature, headed one of the foremost research institutes in physics for three decades, and made great contributions to the advances of Chinese physics. This Festschrift in honor of Professor Yang on his centenary birthday consists of two volumes: Volume A consists of general essays concerning Professor Yang the person, as well as the authors'impressions and reminiscences of him, which are mainly (but not exclusively) in Chinese. This volume, that is Volume B, consists of over thirty scientific papers in English on subjects broadly related to his work and contributed by two different groups: Professor Yang's colleagues, friends, and former students; and graduates from the Tsinghua University Physics Department or Institute for Advanced Study, who have come under the influence of Professor Yang and are now established in their own careers; review papers presented at a Symposium held in his honor in 2021 are also included. It is hoped that this Festschrift can serve as a fit tribute to Professor Yang's lifelong achievements, and also increase public awareness of the many different sides of this giant — his life, his personality, his work, his influence, as well as what he strives for.

Professor Chen Ning Yang, an eminent contemporary physicist, was Professor at the Institute for Advanced Study, Princeton, New Jersey, from 1955 to 1966, and Albert Einstein Professor of Physics at the State University of New York at Stony Brook until his retirement in 1999. He has been Distinguished Professor-at-Large at the Chinese University of Hong Kong since 1986 and Professor at Tsinghua University, Beijing, since 1998.Since receiving his PhD from the University of Chicago in 1948, Prof Yang has made great impacts in both abstract theory and phenomenological analysis in modern physics. In 1983, he published “Selected Papers (1945-1980), With Commentary”. It has been considered by Freeman Dyson as one of his favorite books. The present book is a sequel to that earlier volume. It is a collection of his personally selected papers (1971-2012) supplemented by his insightful commentaries. Its contents reflect Professor Yang's changing interests after he reached age sixty. It also includes commentaries written by him in 2011 when he is 89 years old.The papers and commentaries in this unique collection comprise a remarkable personal and professional chronicle, shedding light on both the intellectual development of a great physicist and on the nature of scientific inquiry.

Since at least the Great Financial Crisis, authorities around the world have increasingly relied on macroprudential policy to help secure financial stability and complement monetary policy as an integral element of a broader macro-financial stability framework. In today's interconnected global financial system, policy actions taken by the major advanced economies can have spillovers on the rest of the world through their impact on capital flows and exchange rates, potentially generating vulnerabilities across borders. Conversely, in emerging market economies, macroprudential policy as well as foreign exchange intervention and/or capital flow management policy can help mitigate the corresponding impact. This can in turn generate spillbacks on advanced economies — spillbacks that have become more sizeable as the emerging market economies'heft in the world has grown. Yet little is known about these interactions.The contents of this book are based on a conference held on 26-28 May 2021 and jointly hosted by the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) and the Bank for International Settlements (BIS). It aims to contribute to existing literature on macro-financial policymaking by providing an overall conceptual framework and documenting the latest global trends and country experiences. In particular, it highlights the role of international spillovers and spillbacks, paying particular attention to emerging market economies. Murray Gell-Mann is one of the leading physicists of the world. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1969 for his work on the classification and symmetries of elementary particles, including the approximate SU(3) symmetry of hadrons. His list of publications is impressive; a number of his papers have become landmarks in physics. In 1953, Gell-Mann introduced the strangeness quantum number, conserved by the strong and electromagnetic interactions but not by the weak interaction. In 1954 he and F E Low proposed what was later called the renormalization group. In 1958 he and R P Feynman wrote an important article on the V-A theory of the weak interaction. In 1961 and 1962 he described his ideas about the SU(3) symmetry of hadrons and its violation, leading to the prediction of the Ω- particle. In 1964 he proposed the quark picture of hadrons. In 1971 he and H Fritzsch proposed the exactly conserved “color” quantum number and in 1972 they discussed what they later called quantum chromodynamics (QCD), the gauge theory of color. These major publications and many others are collected in this volume, providing physicists with easy access to much of Gell-Mann's work. Some of the articles are concerned with his recollections of the history of elementary particle physics in the third quarter of the twentieth century.

This Gedenkschrift for Peter Carr, our dear friend and colleague who suddenly left us on March 1, 2022, was organized to honor the life and lasting contributions of Peter to Quantitative Finance. A group of Peter's co-authors and professional friends contributed chapters for this Gedenkschrift shortly after his passing. The papers were received by September 15, 2022 and some were presented at the Peter Carr Gedenkschrift Conference held at the Robert H Smith School of Business on November 11, 2022. The contributed papers cover a wide range of topics corresponding to the vast range of Peter's interests. Each paper represents new research results in recognition of Peter's scholarly activities. The book serves as an important marker for the research knowledge existing at the time of the Gedenkschrift's publication on a number of topics within quantitative finance. It reflects the diverse interactions between mathematics and finance and illustrates, for those interested, the breadth and depth of this development. The book also presents a collection of tributes to Peter from family and friends including those made at his Memorial Service on March 19, 2022. Terahertz (THz) electromagnetic waves, phenomena in the THz range and related technological issues have been explosively investigated during the recent two decades. However, its potential as a disruptive technology to commercial applications has yet to make any impression.The Russia-Japan-USA-Europe Symposium on Fundamental and Applied Problems of Terahertz Devices and Technologies (RJUSE-TeraTech 2016), held at Katahira Campus of Tohoku University, Sendai, Japan on October 31 - November 4, 2016, aims to bring together researchers from Russia, Japan, USA and Europe, who are working on the broad range of related problems in the terahertz devices, technologies and applications, to discuss on state-of-the-art results and future directions and collaborations in the development of THz.This is the fifth in the series of preceding successful symposiums in Terahertz Devices and Technologies. Yoichiro Nambu was one of the giants in the physics of the last century. Like the Japanese gentleman he was, he did not want to humiliate the reader with obvious statements. Processes presented include thermochemical metal oxide reduction/oxidation cycles to split water and carbon dioxide solar chemical looping reformation of methane to produce synthesis gas, high temperature electrochemistry, and gasification of biomass. Research on the thermochemical storage for CSP and high temperature production of cement and ammonia to illustrate the use concentrated solar energy to produce valuable chemical products are also included.Volume 3 contains reprinted archival papers to support and supplement the material in Volumes 1 and 2. These papers provide background information on the economics and alternative use cases of CSP not covered in Volume 1, and expand on the material related to the chapter topics presented in Volume 2. Photodynamic therapy (PDT) utilizes photosensitizers (PS) together with irradiating light of specific wavelength interacting with oxygen to generate cytotoxic reactive oxygen species, in particular singlet oxygen, which has been approved for the clinical treatments of several malignant and non-malignant pathologies. Most recently, enhanced PDT was successfully achieved by using new light sources (i.e., light-emitting diode), novel functional nano-PSs, oxygen supply and synergistic therapy. In addition, PDT was widely used in the fields of antibacterial, antimicrobial and antibiofilm activities. The aim of this book is to highlight innovations in the fundamental mechanisms of enhanced PDT for clinical applications, and 20 papers published in the Journal of Innovative Optical Health Sciences during 2020-2023 were selected.

Black and Scholes (1973) and Merton (1973, 1974) (hereafter referred to as BSM) introduced the contingent claim approach (CCA) to the valuation of corporate debt and equity. The BSM modeling framework is also named the'structural'approach to risky debt valuation. The CCA considers all stakeholders of the corporation as holding contingent claims on the assets of the corporation. Each claim holder has different priorities, maturities and conditions for payouts. It is based on the principle that all the assets belong to all the liability holders.The BSM modeling framework gives the basic fundamental version of the structural model where default is assumed to occur when the net asset value of the firm at the maturity of the pure-discount debt becomes negative, i.e., market value of the assets of the firm falls below the face value of the firm's liabilities. In a regime of limited liability, the shareholders of the firm have the option to default on the firm's debt. Equity can be viewed as a European call option on the firm's assets with a strike price equal to the face value of the firm's debt. Actually, CCA can be used to value all the components of the firm's liabilities, equity, warrants, debt, contingent convertible debt, guarantees, etc.In the four volumes we present the major academic research on CCA in corporate finance starting from 1973, with seminal papers of Black and Scholes (1973) and Merton (1973, 1974). Volume I covers the foundation of CCA and contributions on equity valuation. Volume II focuses on corporate debt valuation and the capital structure of the firm. Volume III presents empirical evidence on the valuation of debt instruments as well as applications of the CCA to various financial arrangements. The papers in Volume IV show how to apply the CCA to analyze sovereign credit risk, contingent convertible bonds (CoCos), deposit insurance and loan guarantees.
