This book features research presented and discussed during the Research & Innovation Forum (Rii Forum) 2023. As such, this book offers a unique insight into emerging topics, issues and developments pertinent to the fields of technology, innovation and education and their social impact. Papers included in this book apply inter- and multi-disciplinary approaches to query such issues as technology-enhanced teaching and learning, smart cities, information systems, cognitive computing and social networking. What brings these threads of the discussion together is the question of how advances in computer science—which are otherwise largely incomprehensible to researchers from other fields—can be effectively translated and capitalized on so as to make them beneficial for society as a whole. In this context, Rii Forum and Rii Forum proceedings offer an essential venue where diverse stakeholders, including academics, the think tank sector and decision-makers, can engage in a meaningful dialogue with a view to improving the applicability of advances in computer science.

- Abstract
This book focuses on the establishment process of the Japanese style of management (JSM). Traditionally, it has been widely believed that the JSM is native to Japan and consists of three pillars: lifetime employment, a seniority-based wage system, and company unions. This book opposes these traditional views on the JSM and argues that it has been shaped by the influence of management theories and ideas of other countries. The JSM has not only adopted the ideas and concepts of other countries, but also has refined, translated, and customized them to make such ideas and concepts acceptable in Japan. The hypothesis presented here is that in the postwar period of rapid growth, the JSM was a hybrid set of management theories and techniques greatly influenced by American ideas about management. This book concentrates on the impact of American management theories and ideas on the JSM. Taking the historical point of view, it clarifies that impact not only for academics but also for business people. The hypothesis propounded here is that some of those theories and ideas have been accepted whereas some of them have been rejected and eventually made irrelevant. The following issues are discussed: scientific management, the human relations school, Barnard's organizational theory, Drucker's management thoughts, strategic management, human resource management, and corporate culture.

- Abstract
This book provides a thorough understanding of the key policy debates on international trade and investment for development with a focus on the East African Community (EAC) to strengthen Member States'capacity to develop policies to promote their exports'competitiveness and diversification. Beyond Member States', the book serves as a base for a deeper understanding of the challenges, opportunities and requirements of the intra-continental trade agreement which is now in sight with the ratification of the Tripartite (EAC-COMESA-SADC) Free Trade Area that is critical in addressing key constraints to trade in the African continent. Moreover, the lessons from this edited volume may also extend to the challenges and opportunities of the African Continental Free Trade Area. The book brings together a comprehensive overview and an evidence-based analysis that can be considered best practice in the region. The trade and investment policy analysis of constraints and opportunities aims to improve trade and competitiveness and covers macro- (economy-wide), meso- (sectoral) and micro- (firm or household) levels. This multi-level approach is crucial for understanding how current trade and investment policies limit competitiveness and diversification in order to identify more tangible policy action for overcoming such constraints. The individual contributors follow comprehensive applied empirical approaches, and each chapter generates knowledge needed to identify key challenges and opportunities focusing on research-led policy-relevant approaches that enable readers to better understand national, bilateral, and multilateral cooperation as well as policies for sustainable development in East Africa. The contributors know the EAC context very well as their engagement in policymaking goes beyond the context of the papers they are writing about. The individual chapters were developed as part of a research and capacity building programme under the aegis of ACP and EUthat we implemented in 2020-2022. The research project well fits into the Frontiers in African Business Research series as we have many African contributors. The contributions matter to policymakers and academic circles. For students, the book serves as an excellent guide for understanding international trade and investment theories and gaining up-to-date knowledge on developments in the world economy and their effects on developing countries and SDGs. Trade policy researchers and students will be able to extend theories and empirical data to address new and emerging topics beyond the settings already covered in the book.

- Abstract
This book focuses on “Disruption and Change” in the Asian region. In this context, managers and policymakers face a fast transformation of existing structures and business environments. From a business perspective, change is the adoption of business strategies, activities, and operations that meet the needs of the firm and its stakeholder today while protecting, sustaining, and enhancing the human and natural resources that will be needed in the future. Disruption refers to the radical changes in existing industries or markets due to technological innovation breakthroughs. There is a consensus among scholars and practitioners that organizations must manage the change well to flourish in a competitive business environment. Many business models need to be rethought to establish new ways to stay competitive. The book, with its practical examples, gives the reader impulses for new Asian's approaches and encourages the readers to dare to think and act in new ways.

- Abstract
Dr. Jörg Clostermann, THI Business School IngolstadtProf. Dr. Alexander Decker, THI Business School IngolstadtProf. Dr. Eric Eller, THI Business School IngolstadtProf. Dr. Torsten Graap, THI Business School IngolstadtProf. Dr. Mandy Habermann, THI Business School IngolstadtBenedikt Hoffmann, Convidera GmbH Prof. Dr. Michael Jünger, THI Business School IngolstadtProf. Dr. ArminMüller, THI Business School IngolstadtChristine Plote, Agentur für Kommunikation StarnbergProf. Dr. Andrea Raab, THI Business School IngolstadtProf. Dr. Alois Rauscher, THI Business School IngolstadtProf. Dr. Stefan Rock, THI Business School IngolstadtProf. Dr. Katharina Schauberger, THI Business School IngolstadtProf. Dr. Karin Schmidt, THI Business School IngolstadtProf. Dr. Franz Seitz, Technischen Hochschule in Amberg-Weiden Business SchoolProf. Dr. Michael Sternbeck, THI Business School IngolstadtProf. Dr. Harry Wagner, THI Business School Ingolstadt

- Abstract
Digital transformation, alongside social media channels, influences policymaking. The aim of this research is to build knowledge of the consequences of digital transformation on lobbying at German federal level. This analysis uncovers how digital lobbying works in Germany and how it changes classic lobbying communication within the political sphere. Taking a grounded theory approach, the study addresses both communicating sides: lobbyists, on the one hand, and members of the German Bundestag and their employees, on the other. A profound understanding of, and differentiation between, lobbying and digital lobbying is gained through a first data-gathering step of 15 interviews with representatives of both the political and lobbying sides. The study extends previous analyses by supplementing the findings with ethnographic data from the researcher's experience of working as an employee of a member of the German Bundestag. Final conclusions were drawn by presenting these results in the second data-gathering step, during four (digital) focus groups with the political side and three with agency, association, and corporate lobbyists from Berlin. The analysis uncovers a power shift in lobbying communication and a novel communication direction.

- Abstract

- Abstract

- Abstract
This book is no standard guide on ordinary women's topics. It relentlessly reflects on what slows down women's personal development regarding relationship, family and work - with razor-sharp analyses of hidden interactions and traumas. This book enables women to become aware of existing traps and obstacles, fears, feelings of guilt and other deep-seated emotions to help them leave behind restricting role attributions while power-balancing their lives between partner, children and career.Women often consider themselves as the patriarchy's victims. Instead, the author identifies the fact that they lack awareness of their own power and the willingness to recognize it, the fact that women often neither admit nor accept their own power, as the prime reason why women remain stuck in traditional role models – for equality would require their powerful sovereignty. This book offers solutions to seemingly difficult situations, and experienced women leaders have their say. The recommendations on how to set a decisive course on the path to female empowerment leave readers with no room to retreat and hide behind familiar and often practiced counterarguments: This book encourages self-reflection as well as public discussion. The translation was done with the help of artificial intelligence. A subsequent human revision was done primarily in terms of content.
