Chronic alcohol use is stated to be associated with cognitive and behavioural deficits. Alcohol-dependent individuals seem to have difficulties specifically in the cognitive abilities they need the most to recover from addiction and to cope with everyday demands; particularly executive functioning. This study demonstrates the challenge of assessing fundamental features of executive function in alcohol-dependent patients. The main strength of this study was the application of two different methods to explore their validity in the assessment of cognitive and behavioural aspects of executive function in terms of treatment outcome and long-term functional difficulties at a six-month follow up. Both the psychometrically assessed performance-based executive function deficits (EFDs) and the behavioural questionnaire, which refers to real-world behavioural manifestations of EFDs were of critical interest in terms of addictive behaviour and social and occupational functioning. The findings of this study proposed that the two methodological approaches could be capturing different aspects of executive function, and that self-reported behavioural manifestations of EFDs can help identify alcohol-dependent individuals at high risk for relapse.

The dream world represents an alternate state of consciousness occurring during sleeping. Investigations of features existing in the dreaming state of consciousness can offer fascinating insights into individuals'nocturnal mental lives along with the scientific contradictions. The readers have an opportunity for an inside look into the inspirations that lead one researcher to address the contradictions in dream research and the development of the ideas that served as undergirding the subsequent research of nocturnal subjective experiences reported in dream narratives. In this book, the author traces research into one of the most scientifically denied features of dreaming consciousness – the thinking abilities of non-lucid dreamers. Contrary to explanations provided by cognitive neuroscientists, notably that deactivation of the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex indicates that non-lucid dreamers are incapable of self-generated thought (including executive skills and metacognitive monitoring), the phenomenological findings presented here reveal the wide range of dreamers'sophisticated thought processes. Granted, these thought processes come to existence if and when dreamers find themselves in specific condition during which they realize that they might want to attempt to change their current experience. Despite attempts to integrate phenomenological and neuroimaging findings focused on non-lucid dreamers'dreaming state of consciousness, these efforts will remain incomplete if researchers do not recognize the existence of dreamers'self-generated thought processes. In the absence of this recognition, prospects for new discoveries will have only limited potential because the predominant deficiency viewpoint clearly guides many current research efforts. Yet, the non-lucid dreamers can become engaged in their dreams as active agents and, in a developmental manner, might continue to use their executive skills. Hence, the premises, explanations, and predictions suggesting the existence of deactivated executive function need to be re-examined. In this book entitled Consciousness and Dreaming Mind: Mapping the Uncharted Territory of Thinking in Dreams, the author offers evidence including taxonomy of executive function processes and findings about volition and metacognitive monitoring in non-lucid dreaming state of consciousness. In Progress in Education. Volume 50, the authors present connectivity as a value that presents a numerical increase in the measure that leads to significant, transversal and related learning between the three dimensions analyzed. From these data alongside quotient positivity/negativity, learning dynamics can be characterized. The following chapter deals with the attitude of teachers towards inclusion and identifies several beliefs that are central to an inclusive mindset. Important theoretical constructs such as like self-efficacy, implicit theories of intelligence, and different models of disability are introduced, and their empirical significance in the context of inclusive education is discussed. Another study is included which explored older adults'motivations for and the benefits of participating in cooperative learning groups. Qualitative focus group discussions were held with 13 cooperative learning groups and a total of 93 older adults. The results indicated that the motivations behind participating in cooperative learning groups included curiosity, the desire to promote senior citizens learning camps, the desire to learn exercises, personal interests, the desire to leave the house, the desire to combat physical and mental deterioration, and recommendations from others. The authors present an integrated picture of resource distribution practices in the classroom setting. Rather than examining each resource distribution practice separately, the study conceptualizes all resource distribution practices as an interrelated system of evaluations structured along the dimensions of universalism. The authors set out to demonstrate to teachers, including trainee teachers, how they can use a set of virtual applications to teach the contents of any subject in order to promote an engagement in learning. Thus, they describe a study with trainee teachers to whom a set of apps were presented. During this research, the trainee teachers were taught how they could use these apps in their classes.
