With the advancement in technology, Cloud computing always amazes the world with revolutionizing solutions that automate and simplify complex computational tasks. The advantages like no maintenance cost, accessibility, data backup, pay-per-use models, unlimited storage, and processing power encourage individuals and businesses to migrate their workload to the cloud. Despite the numerous advantages of cloud computing, the geolocation of data in the cloud environment is a massive concern, which relates to the performance and government legislation that will be applied to data. The unclarity of data geolocation can cause compliance concerns. In this work, we have presented a technique that will allow users to restrict the geolocation of their data in the cloud environment. We have used trusted computing mechanisms to attest the host and its geolocation remotely. With this model, the user will upload the data whose decryption key will be shared with a third-party attestation server only. Attosecond pulses created by high-order harmonic generation in gases often exhibit strong chromatic aberrations, arising from the broad bandwidth and wavelength-dependent nonlinear light-matter interaction. When the driving laser intensity varies spatially, as for Gaussian driving beams, the apparent source position of the harmonics differs significantly from one order to the next, thus affecting the achievable intensity and duration of the attosecond pulses when they are focused on a target. We show that these chromatic aberrations can be reduced by spatially shaping the fundamental beam to generate high-order harmonics with a driver having a flat-top profile inside the gas medium. By measuring both the intensity profile and wavefront for each harmonic in a plane, we access the extreme ultra-violet (XUV) beam properties and investigate these properties near focus. We observe that controlling chromatic aberrations by flat-top spatial shaping strongly reduces the variation of the XUV spectrum on the beam axis during propagation and, in return, the longitudinal sensitivity of both the temporal profiles and the temporal shifts of the focused attosecond pulses., Comment: 12 pages, 8 figures + supplementary material: 10 pages, 13 figures

We measure for the first time the duration of long-quantum path EUV high harmonics produced in xenon gas. The long-quantum path contribution to the high-harmonic signal was carefully controlled by employing a two-colour driving laser field and a high-harmonic spatial selection in the far field, over a range of $18-25\,eV$ in photon energy. To characterise the temporal profile of long quantum path high harmonics, we performed a second order volume autocorrelation ($2-IVAC$) via two EUV photon double ionization in argon. Our results show the production and characterisation of a train of EUV pulses from the long-path with pulse duration as short as $1.4\,fs$. This measurement demonstrates that the long-quantum path emission can have enough flux for performing non-linear EUV experiments, and that the long trajectories enable a pulse duration short enough to support measurements with a temporal resolution below $2\,fs$.

With a combination of numerical methods, including quantum Monte Carlo, exact diagonalization, and a simplified dynamical mean-field model, we consider the attosecond charge dynamics of electrons induced by strong-field laser pulses in two-dimensional Mott insulators. The necessity to go beyond single-particle approaches in these strongly correlated systems has made the simulation of two-dimensional extended materials challenging, and we contrast their resulting high-harmonic emission with more widely studied one-dimensional analogues. As well as considering the photo-induced breakdown of the Mott insulating state and magnetic order, we also resolve the time and ultra-high frequency domains of emission, which are used to characterize both the photo-transition, and the sub-cycle structure of the electron dynamics. This extends simulation capabilities and understanding of the photo-melting of these Mott insulators in two-dimensions, at the frontier of attosecond non-equilibrium science of correlated materials., Comment: 7 pages, 5 figures

This work theoretically investigates high-order harmonic generation in rare gas atoms driven by two temporally delayed ultrashort laser pulses. Apart from their temporal delay, the two pulses are identical. Using a single-atom model of the laser-matter interaction it is shown that the photon energy of the generated harmonics is controllable within the range of one eV -- a bandwidth comparable to the photon energy of the fundamental field -- by varying the time delay between the generating laser pulses. It is also demonstrated that high-order harmonics generated by double pulses have advantageous characteristics, which mimick certain properties of an extreme ultraviolet (XUV) monochromator. This paper has been prepared by the Symphony collaboration (University of Warsaw, Uniwersytet Jagiello\'nski, DESY/CNR and ICFO) on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the "simple man's models" which underlie most of the phenomena that occur when intense ultrashort laser pulses interact with matter. The phenomena in question include High-Harmonic Generation, Above-Threshold Ionization, and Non-Sequential Multielectron Ionization. "Simple man's models" provide, both an intuitive basis for understanding the numerical solutions of the time-dependent Schr\"odinger equation, and the motivation for the powerful analytic approximations generally known as the Strong Field Approximation (SFA). In this paper we first review the SFA in the form developed by us in the last 25 years. In this approach SFA is a method to solve the TDSE using a systematic perturbation theory in a part of the Hamiltonian describing continuum-continuum transitions in the presence of the laser field. In this review we focus on recent applications of SFA to HHG, ATI and NSMI from multi-electron atoms and from multi-atom. The main novel part of the presented theory concerns generalizations of SFA to: (i) time-dependent treatment of two-electron atoms, allowing for studies of an interplay between Electron Impact Ionization (EII) and Resonant Excitation with Subsequent Ionization (RESI); (ii) time-dependent treatment in the single active electron (SAE) approximation of "large" molecules and targets which are themselves undergoing dynamics during the HHG or ATI process. In particular, we formulate the general expressions for the case of arbitrary molecules, combining input from quantum chemistry and quantum dynamics. We formulate also theory of time-dependent separable molecular potentials to model analytically the dynamics of realistic electronic wave packets for molecules in strong laser fields., Comment: We dedicate this work to the memory of Bertrand Carr\'e, who passed away in March 2018 at the age of 60. It is known that the $\tilde j$-metric, half-apollonian metric and scale-invariant Cassinian metric are not Gromov hyperbolic. These metrics are defined as a supremum of one-point metrics (i.e., metrics constructed using one boundary point) and the supremum is taken over all boundary points. The aim of this paper is to show that taking the average instead of the supremum yields a metric that preserves the Gromov hyperbolicity. Moreover, we show that the Gromov hyperbolicity constant of the resulting metric does not depend on the number of metrics used in taking the average. We also provide an example to show that the average of Gromov hyperbolic metrics is not, in general, Gromov hyperbolic., Comment: 13 pages

We present and explore a model of stateless and self-stabilizing distributed computation, inspired by real-world applications such as routing on today's Internet. Processors in our model do not have an internal state, but rather interact by repeatedly mapping incoming messages ("labels") to outgoing messages and output values. While seemingly too restrictive to be of interest, stateless computation encompasses both classical game-theoretic notions of strategic interaction and a broad range of practical applications (e.g., Internet protocols, circuits, diffusion of technologies in social networks). We embark on a holistic exploration of stateless computation. We tackle two important questions: (1) Under what conditions is self-stabilization, i.e., guaranteed "convergence" to a "legitimate" global configuration, achievable for stateless computation? and (2) What is the computational power of stateless computation? Our results for self-stabilization include a general necessary condition for self-stabilization and hardness results for verifying that a stateless protocol is self-stabilizing. Our main results for the power of stateless computation show that labels of logarithmic length in the number of processors yield substantial computational power even on ring topologies. We present a separation between unidirectional and bidirectional rings (L/poly vs. P/poly), reflecting the sequential nature of computation on a unidirectional ring, as opposed to the parallelism afforded by the bidirectional ring. We leave the reader with many exciting directions for future research.

Recently two emerging areas of research, attosecond and nanoscale physics, have started to come together. Attosecond physics deals with phenomena occurring when ultrashort laser pulses, with duration on the femto- and sub-femtosecond time scales, interact with atoms, molecules or solids. The laser-induced electron dynamics occurs natively on a timescale down to a few hundred or even tens of attoseconds, which is comparable with the optical field. On the other hand, the second branch involves the manipulation and engineering of mesoscopic systems, such as solids, metals and dielectrics, with nanometric precision. Although nano-engineering is a vast and well-established research field on its own, the merger with intense laser physics is relatively recent. In this article we present a comprehensive experimental and theoretical overview of physics that takes place when short and intense laser pulses interact with nanosystems, such as metallic and dielectric nanostructures. In particular we elucidate how the spatially inhomogeneous laser induced fields at a nanometer scale modify the laser-driven electron dynamics. Consequently, this has important impact on pivotal processes such as ATI and HHG. The deep understanding of the coupled dynamics between these spatially inhomogeneous fields and matter configures a promising way to new avenues of research and applications. Thanks to the maturity that attosecond physics has reached, together with the tremendous advance in material engineering and manipulation techniques, the age of atto-nano physics has begun, but it is in the initial stage. We present thus some of the open questions, challenges and prospects for experimental confirmation of theoretical predictions, as well as experiments aimed at characterizing the induced fields and the unique electron dynamics initiated by them with high temporal and spatial resolution., Comment: Invited Review ROPP, 50 pages, 38 figures

The popularity of Tor as an anonymity system has made it a popular target for a variety of attacks. We focus on traffic correlation attacks, which are no longer solely in the realm of academic research with recent revelations about the NSA and GCHQ actively working to implement them in practice. Our first contribution is an empirical study that allows us to gain a high fidelity snapshot of the threat of traffic correlation attacks in the wild. We find that up to 40% of all circuits created by Tor are vulnerable to attacks by traffic correlation from Autonomous System (AS)-level adversaries, 42% from colluding AS-level adversaries, and 85% from state-level adversaries. In addition, we find that in some regions (notably, China and Iran) there exist many cases where over 95% of all possible circuits are vulnerable to correlation attacks, emphasizing the need for AS-aware relay-selection. To mitigate the threat of such attacks, we build Astoria--an AS-aware Tor client. Astoria leverages recent developments in network measurement to perform path-prediction and intelligent relay selection. Astoria reduces the number of vulnerable circuits to 2% against AS-level adversaries, under 5% against colluding AS-level adversaries, and 25% against state-level adversaries. The Cassinian metric and its inner metric have been studied for subdomains of the $n$-dimensional Euclidean space $\mathbb{R}^n$ ($n\ge 2$) by the first named author. In this paper we obtain various inequalities between the Cassinian metric and other related metrics in some specific subdomains of $\mathbb{R}^n$. We present studies of high-order harmonic generation (HHG) at laser intensities well above saturation. We use driving laser pulses which present a particular electron dynamics in the turn-on stage. Our results predict an increasing on the harmonic yield, after an initial dropping, when the laser intensity is increased. This fact contradicts the general belief of a progressive degradation of the harmonic emission at ultrahigh intensities. We have identified a particular set of trajectories which emerges in the turn-on stage of these singular laser pulses, responsible of the unexpected growth on the harmonic efficiency at this high intensity regime. Our study combines two complementary approaches: classical analysis and full quantum mechanical calculations resulting from the numerical integration of the 3-dimensional time-dependent Schr\"odinger equation complemented with the time-frequency analysis.

We report on the development of tunable few-cycle pulses with central wavelengths from 1.6 um to 2 um. Theses pulses were used as a proof of principle for high harmonic generation in atomic and molecular targets. In order to generate such pulses we produced a filament in a 4 bar krypton cell. Spectral broadening by a factor of 2 to 3 of a 40 fs near infrared input pulse was achieved. The spectrally broadened output pulses were then compressed by fused silica plates down to the few-cycle regime close to the Fourier limit. The auto-correlation of these pulses revealed durations of about 3 cycles for all investigated central wavelengths. Pulses with a central wavelength of 1.7 um and up to 430 uJ energy per pulse were employed to generate high order harmonics in Xe, Ar and N2. Moving to near infrared few-cycle pulses opens the possibility to operate deeply in the non-perturbative regime with a Keldysh parameter smaller than 1. Hence, this source is suitable for the study of the non-adiabatic tunneling regime in most generating systems used for high order harmonic generation and attoscience., Comment: 12 pages, 4 figures

In a paper published posthumously, P.S. Urysohn constructed a complete, separable metric space that contains an isometric copy of every complete separable metric space, nowadays referred to as the Urysohn universal space. Here we study various convexity properties of the Urysohn universal space and show that it has a finite ball intersection property. We also note that Urysohn universal space is not hyperconvex.

Quasi-free field-driven electron trajectories are a key element of strong-field dynamics. Upon recollision with the parent ion, the energy transferred from the field to the electron may be released as attosecond duration XUV emission in the process of high harmonic generation (HHG). The conventional sinusoidal driver fields set limitations on the maximum value of this energy transfer, and it has been predicted that this limit can be significantly exceeded by an appropriately ramped-up cycleshape. Here, we present an experimental realization of such cycle-shaped waveforms and demonstrate control of the HHG process on the single-atom quantum level via attosecond steering of the electron trajectories. With our optimized optical cycles, we boost the field-ionization launching the electron trajectories, increase the subsequent field-to-electron energy transfer, and reduce the trajectory duration. We demonstrate, in realistic experimental conditions, two orders of magnitude enhancement of the generated XUV flux together with an increased spectral cutoff. This application, which is only one example of what can be achieved with cycle-shaped high-field light-waves, has farreaching implications for attosecond spectroscopy and molecular self-probing.

We study theoretically the photoelectron emission in noble gases using plasmonic enhanced near-fields. We demonstrate that these fields have a great potential to generate high energy electrons by direct mid-infrared laser pulses of the current femtosecond oscillator. Typically, these fields appear in the surroundings of plasmonic nanostructures, having different geometrical shape such as bow-ties, metallic waveguides, metal nanoparticles and nanotips, when illuminated by a short laser pulse. In here, we consider metal nanospheres, in which the spatial decay of the near-field of the isolated nanoparticle can be approximated by an exponential function according to recent attosecond streaking measurements. We establish that the strong nonhomogeneous character of the enhanced near-field plays an important role in the above threshold ionization (ATI) process and leads to a significant extension in the photoelectron spectra. In this work, we employ the time dependent Schr\"odinger equation in reduced dimensions to calculate the photoelectron emission of xenon atoms in such enhanced near-field. Our findings are supported by classical calculations.

We present theoretical investigations of high-order harmonic generation (HHG) resulting from the interaction of noble gases with localized surface plasmons. These plasmonic fields are produced when a metal nanoparticle is subject to a few-cycle laser pulse. The enhanced field, which largely depends on the geometrical shape of the metallic structure, has a strong spatial dependency. We demonstrate that the strong non-homogeneity of this laser field plays an important role in the HHG process and leads to a significant increase of the harmonic cut-off energy. In order to understand and characterize this new feature, we include the functional form of the laser electric field obtained from recent attosecond streaking experiments [F. S{\"u}{\ss}mann and M. F. Kling, Proc. of SPIE, {\bf Vol. 8096}, 80961C (2011)] in the time dependent Schr\"odinger equation (TDSE). By performing classical simulations of the HHG process we show consistency between them and the quantum mechanical predictions. These allow us to understand the origin of the extended harmonic spectra as a selection of particular trajectory sets. The use of metal nanoparticles shall pave a completely new way of generating coherent XUV light with a laser field which characteristics can be synthesized locally., Comment: 6 pages, 4 figures

We investigate how short and long electron trajectory contributions to high harmonic emission and their interferences give access to intra-molecular dynamics. In the case of unaligned molecules, we show experimental evidences that the long trajectory signature is more dependent upon the molecule than the short one, providing a high sensitivity to cation nuclear dynamics within 100's of as to few fs. Using theoretical approaches based on Strong Field Approximation and Time Dependent Schrodinger Equation, we examine how quantum path interferences encode electronic motion whilst molecules are aligned. We show that the interferences are dependent on channels superposition and upon which ionisation channel is involved. In particular, quantum path interferences encodes electronic migration signature while coupling between channels is allowed by the laser field. Hence, molecular quantum path interferences is a promising method for Attosecond Spectroscopy, allowing the resolution of ultra-fast charge migration in molecules after ionisation in a self-referenced manner., Comment: 10 pages 9 figures 1 table

We present numerical simulations of high-order harmonic generation in helium using a temporally synthesised and spatially non-homogeneous strong laser field. The combination of temporal and spatial laser field synthesis results in a dramatic cut-off extension far beyond the usual semiclassical limit. Our predictions are based on the convergence of three complementary approaches: resolution of the three dimensional Time Dependent Schr\"odinger Equation, time-frequency analysis of the resulting dipole moment and classical trajectories extraction. Employing a combination of temporally and spatially synthesised laser field provides coherent XUV photons beyond the carbon K-edge which is of high interest for initiating inner-shell dynamics and study time-resolved intra-molecular attosecond spectroscopy.

We propose a novel method to reconstruct the spatio-temporal amplitude and phase of the electric field of ultrashort laser pulses using spatially-resolved spectral interferometry. This method is based on a fiber-optic coupler interferometer that has certain advantages in comparison with standard interferometer systems, such as it being alignment-free and selection of the reference beam at a single point. Our technique, which we refer to as STARFISH, offers compactness and simplicity. We report its application to the experimental characterization of chirped pulses and to spatio-temporal reconstructions of a convergent beam as well as plane-plane and spherical-plane waves interferences, which we check with our simulations., Comment: 9 pages, 7 figures
