Liver cancer has a high incidence rate, but primary healthcare settings often lack experienced doctors. Advances in large models and AI technologies offer potential assistance. This work aims to address limitations in liver cancer diagnosis models, such as poor understanding of medical images, insufficient consideration of liver blood vessels, and ensuring accurate medical information. We propose a specialized diagnostic assistant to improve the diagnostic capabilities of less experienced doctors. Our framework combines large and small models, using optimized small models for precise patient image perception. Specifically, a segmentation network iteratively removes ambiguous pixels for liver tumor segmentation, and a multi-scale, multi-level differential network segments liver vessels. Features from these segmentations and medical records form a patient's personalized knowledge base. For diagnosis, Chain of Thought (COT) technology designs prompts mimicking experienced doctors' thought patterns, and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) technology provides answers based on reliable domain knowledge and trusted cases. Our small model methods improve liver tumor and vessel segmentation performance, resulting in more accurate information extraction. The large model component scores over 1 point higher on a 10-point scale in evaluations by doctors compared to control methods. Our method enhances semantic perception of medical images, improves classification of ambiguous pixels, and optimizes small object perception. It considers blood vessel positions for specific treatments and improves response credibility and interpretability by mimicking experienced doctors' thought processes using reliable resources. This approach has been recognized by doctors and benefits liver cancer auxiliary diagnosis.

Detecting objects in real-world scenes is a complex task due to various challenges, including the vast range of object categories, and potential encounters with previously unknown or unseen objects. The challenges necessitate the development of public benchmarks and challenges to advance the field of object detection. Inspired by the success of previous COCO and LVIS Challenges, we organize the V3Det Challenge 2024 in conjunction with the 4th Open World Vision Workshop: Visual Perception via Learning in an Open World (VPLOW) at CVPR 2024, Seattle, US. This challenge aims to push the boundaries of object detection research and encourage innovation in this field. The V3Det Challenge 2024 consists of two tracks: 1) Vast Vocabulary Object Detection: This track focuses on detecting objects from a large set of 13204 categories, testing the detection algorithm's ability to recognize and locate diverse objects. 2) Open Vocabulary Object Detection: This track goes a step further, requiring algorithms to detect objects from an open set of categories, including unknown objects. In the following sections, we will provide a comprehensive summary and analysis of the solutions submitted by participants. By analyzing the methods and solutions presented, we aim to inspire future research directions in vast vocabulary and open-vocabulary object detection, driving progress in this field. This paper focuses on the classification task of breast ultrasound images and researches on the reliability measurement of classification results. We proposed a dual-channel evaluation framework based on the proposed inference reliability and predictive reliability scores. For the inference reliability evaluation, human-aligned and doctor-agreed inference rationales based on the improved feature attribution algorithm SP-RISA are gracefully applied. Uncertainty quantification is used to evaluate the predictive reliability via the Test Time Enhancement. The effectiveness of this reliability evaluation framework has been verified on our breast ultrasound clinical dataset YBUS, and its robustness is verified on the public dataset BUSI. The expected calibration errors on both datasets are significantly lower than traditional evaluation methods, which proves the effectiveness of our proposed reliability measurement.

Artificial intelligence(AI)-assisted method had received much attention in the risk field such as disease diagnosis. Different from the classification of disease types, it is a fine-grained task to classify the medical images as benign or malignant. However, most research only focuses on improving the diagnostic accuracy and ignores the evaluation of model reliability, which limits its clinical application. For clinical practice, calibration presents major challenges in the low-data regime extremely for over-parametrized models and inherent noises. In particular, we discovered that modeling data-dependent uncertainty is more conducive to confidence calibrations. Compared with test-time augmentation(TTA), we proposed a modified Bootstrapping loss(BS loss) function with Mixup data augmentation strategy that can better calibrate predictive uncertainty and capture data distribution transformation without additional inference time. Our experiments indicated that BS loss with Mixup(BSM) model can halve the Expected Calibration Error(ECE) compared to standard data augmentation, deep ensemble and MC dropout. The correlation between uncertainty and similarity of in-domain data is up to -0.4428 under the BSM model. Additionally, the BSM model is able to perceive the semantic distance of out-of-domain data, demonstrating high potential in real-world clinical practice.

Most of the state-of-the-art semantic segmentation reported in recent years is based on fully supervised deep learning in the medical domain. How?ever, the high-quality annotated datasets require intense labor and domain knowledge, consuming enormous time and cost. Previous works that adopt semi?supervised and unsupervised learning are proposed to address the lack of anno?tated data through assisted training with unlabeled data and achieve good perfor?mance. Still, these methods can not directly get the image annotation as doctors do. In this paper, inspired by self-training of semi-supervised learning, we pro?pose a novel approach to solve the lack of annotated data from another angle, called medical image pixel rearrangement (short in MIPR). The MIPR combines image-editing and pseudo-label technology to obtain labeled data. As the number of iterations increases, the edited image is similar to the original image, and the labeled result is similar to the doctor annotation. Therefore, the MIPR is to get labeled pairs of data directly from amounts of unlabled data with pixel rearrange?ment, which is implemented with a designed conditional Generative Adversarial Networks and a segmentation network. Experiments on the ISIC18 show that the effect of the data annotated by our method for segmentation task is is equal to or even better than that of doctors annotations

The medical datasets are usually faced with the problem of scarcity and data imbalance. Moreover, annotating large datasets for semantic segmentation of medical lesions is domain-knowledge and time-consuming. In this paper, we propose a new object-blend method(short in soft-CP) that combines the Copy-Paste augmentation method for semantic segmentation of medical lesions offline, ensuring the correct edge information around the lession to solve the issue above-mentioned. We proved the method's validity with several datasets in different imaging modalities. In our experiments on the KiTS19[2] dataset, Soft-CP outperforms existing medical lesions synthesis approaches. Fetal standard scan plane detection during 2-D mid-pregnancy examinations is a highly complex task, which requires extensive medical knowledge and years of training. Although deep neural networks (DNN) can assist inexperienced operators in these tasks, their lack of transparency and interpretability limit their application. Despite some researchers have been committed to visualizing the decision process of DNN, most of them only focus on the pixel-level features and do not take into account the medical prior knowledge. In this work, we propose an interpretable framework based on key medical concepts, which provides explanations from the perspective of clinicians' cognition. Moreover, we utilize a concept-based graph convolutional neural(GCN) network to construct the relationships between key medical concepts. Background: Ultrasound is one of the preferred choices for early screening of dense breast cancer. Clinically, doctors have to manually write the screening report which is time-consuming and laborious, and it is easy to miss and miswrite. Aim: We proposed a new pipeline to automatically generate AI breast ultrasound screening reports based on ultrasound images, aiming to assist doctors in improving the efficiency of clinical screening and reducing repetitive report writing. Methods: AI was used to efficiently generate personalized breast ultrasound screening preliminary reports, especially for benign and normal cases which account for the majority. Based on the preliminary AI report, doctors then make simple adjustments or corrections to quickly generate the final report. The approach has been trained and tested using a database of 4809 breast tumor instances. Results: Experimental results indicate that this pipeline improves doctors' work efficiency by up to 90%, which greatly reduces repetitive work. Conclusion: Personalized report generation is more widely recognized by doctors in clinical practice compared with non-intelligent reports based on fixed templates or containing options to fill in the blanks.

The implementation of medical AI has always been a problem. The effect of traditional perceptual AI algorithm in medical image processing needs to be improved. Objective: Breast cancer screening is of great significance in contemporary women's health prevention. The existing machines embedded in the AI system do not reach the accuracy that clinicians hope. How to make intelligent systems more reliable is a common problem. Methods: 1) Ultrasound image super-resolution: the SRGAN super-resolution network reduces the unclearness of ultrasound images caused by the device itself and improves the accuracy and generalization of the detection model. 2) In response to the needs of medical images, we have improved the YOLOv4 and the CenterNet models. 3) Multi-AI model: based on the respective advantages of different AI models, we employ two AI models to determine clinical resuls cross validation. And we accept the same results and refuses others. Results: 1) With the help of the super-resolution model, the YOLOv4 model and the CenterNet model both increased the mAP score by 9.6% and 13.8%. 2) Two methods for transforming the target model into a classification model are proposed. And the unified output is in a specified format to facilitate the call of the molti-AI model. 3) In the classification evaluation experiment, concatenated by the YOLOv4 model (sensitivity 57.73%, specificity 90.08%) and the CenterNet model (sensitivity 62.64%, specificity 92.54%), the multi-AI model will refuse to make judgments on 23.55% of the input data. Correspondingly, the performance has been greatly improved to 95.91% for the sensitivity and 96.02% for the specificity. Conclusion: Our work makes the AI model more reliable in medical image diagnosis. Significance: 1) The proposed method makes the target detection model more suitable for diagnosing breast ultrasound images. 2) It provides a new idea for artificial intelligence in medical diagnosis, which can more conveniently introduce target detection models from other fields to serve medical lesion screening., Comment: 12 pages, 6 figures, 6 tables

Accurate registration of medical images is vital for doctor's diagnosis and quantitative analysis. In this paper, we propose a new deformable medical image registration method based on average geometric transformations and VoxelMorph CNN architecture. We compute the differential geometric information including Jacobian determinant(JD) and the curl vector(CV) of diffeomorphic registration field and use them as multi-channel of VoxelMorph CNN for second train. In addition, we use the average transformation to construct a standard brain MRI atlas which can be used as fixed image. We verify our method on two datasets including ADNI dataset and MRBrainS18 Challenge dataset, and obtain excellent improvement on MR image registration with average Dice scores and non-negative Jacobian locations compared with MIT's original method. With the development of deep learning, the structure of convolution neural network is becoming more and more complex and the performance of object recognition is getting better. However, the classification mechanism of convolution neural networks is still an unsolved core problem. The main problem is that convolution neural networks have too many parameters, which makes it difficult to analyze them. In this paper, we design and train a convolution neural network based on the expression recognition, and explore the classification mechanism of the network. By using the Deconvolution visualization method, the extremum point of the convolution neural network is projected back to the pixel space of the original image, and we qualitatively verify that the trained expression recognition convolution neural network forms a detector for the specific facial action unit. At the same time, we design the distance function to measure the distance between the presence of facial feature unit and the maximal value of the response on the feature map of convolution neural network. The greater the distance, the more sensitive the feature map is to the facial feature unit. By comparing the maximum distance of all facial feature elements in the feature graph, the mapping relationship between facial feature element and convolution neural network feature map is determined. During the growing popularity of electronic medical records, electronic medical record (EMR) data has exploded increasingly. It is very meaningful to retrieve high quality EMR in mass data. In this paper, an EMR value network with retrieval function is constructed by taking stroke disease as the research object. It mainly includes: 1) It establishes the electronic medical record database and corresponding stroke knowledge graph. 2) The strategy of similarity measurement is included three parts(patients' chief complaint, pathology results and medical images). Patients' chief complaints are text data, mainly describing patients' symptoms and expressed in words or phrases, and patients' chief complaints are input in independent tick of various symptoms. The data of the pathology results is a structured and digitized expression, so the input method is the same as the patient's chief complaint; Image similarity adopts content-based image retrieval(CBIR) technology. 3) The analytic hierarchy process (AHP) is used to establish the weights of the three types of data and then synthesize them into an indicator. The accuracy rate of similarity in top 5 was more than 85\% based on EMR database with more 200 stroke records using leave-one-out method. Accurate annotation of medical image is the crucial step for image AI clinical application. However, annotating medical image will incur a great deal of annotation effort and expense due to its high complexity and needing experienced doctors. To alleviate annotation cost, some active learning methods are proposed. But such methods just cut the number of annotation candidates and do not study how many efforts the doctor will exactly take, which is not enough since even annotating a small amount of medical data will take a lot of time for the doctor. In this paper, we propose a new criterion to evaluate efforts of doctors annotating medical image. First, by coming active learning and U-shape network, we employ a suggestive annotation strategy to choose the most effective annotation candidates. Then we exploit a fine annotation platform to alleviate annotating efforts on each candidate and first utilize a new criterion to quantitatively calculate the efforts taken by doctors. In our work, we take MR brain tissue segmentation as an example to evaluate the proposed method. Extensive experiments on the well-known IBSR18 dataset and MRBrainS18 Challenge dataset show that, using proposed strategy, state-of-the-art segmentation performance can be achieved by using only 60% annotation candidates and annotation efforts can be alleviated by at least 44%, 44%, 47% on CSF, GM, WM separately.

Accurate segmentation of brain tissue in magnetic resonance images (MRI) is a diffcult task due to different types of brain abnormalities. Using information and features from multimodal MRI including T1, T1-weighted inversion recovery (T1-IR) and T2-FLAIR and differential geometric features including the Jacobian determinant(JD) and the curl vector(CV) derived from T1 modality can result in a more accurate analysis of brain images. In this paper, we use the differential geometric information including JD and CV as image characteristics to measure the differences between different MRI images, which represent local size changes and local rotations of the brain image, and we can use them as one CNN channel with other three modalities (T1-weighted, T1-IR and T2-FLAIR) to get more accurate results of brain segmentation. We test this method on two datasets including IBSR dataset and MRBrainS datasets based on the deep voxelwise residual network, namely VoxResNet, and obtain excellent improvement over single modality or three modalities and increases average DSC(Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF), Gray Matter (GM) and White Matter (WM)) by about 1.5% on the well-known MRBrainS18 dataset and about 2.5% on the IBSR dataset. Moreover, we discuss that one modality combined with its JD or CV information can replace the segmentation effect of three modalities, which can provide medical conveniences for doctor to diagnose because only to extract T1-modality MRI image of patients. Finally, we also compare the segmentation performance of our method in two networks, VoxResNet and U-Net network. The results show VoxResNet has a better performance than U-Net network with our method in brain MRI segmentation. Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is widely used in the pathological and functional studies of the brain, such as epilepsy, tumor diagnosis, etc. Automated accurate brain tissue segmentation like cerebro-spinal fluid (CSF), gray matter (GM), white matter (WM) is the basis of these studies and many researchers are seeking it to the best. Based on the truth that multi-channel segmentation network with its own ground truth achieves up to average dice ratio 0.98, we propose a novel method that we add a fourth channel with the ground truth of the most similar image's obtained by CBIR from the database. The results show that the method improves the segmentation performance, as measured by average dice ratio, by approximately 0.01 in the MRBrainS18 database. Accurate segmentation of MR brain tissue is a crucial step for diagnosis, surgical planning, and treatment of brain abnormalities. Automatic and reliable segmenta-tion methods are required to assist doctor. Over the last few years, deep learning especially deep convolutional neural networks (CNNs) have emerged as one of the most prominent approaches for image recognition problems in various do-mains. But the improvement of deep networks always needs inspiration, which is rare for the ordinary. Until now,there have been reasonable MR brain tissue segmentation methods,all of which can achieve promising performance. These different methods have their own characteristic and are distinctive for data sets. In other words, different models performance vary widely on the same data sets and each model has what it is skilled in. It is on the basis of this, we propose a judgement to distinguish data sets that different models are good at. With our method, the segmentation accuracy can be improved easily based on the existing models, neither without increasing training data nor improving the network. We validate our method on the widely used IBSR 18 dataset and obtain average dice ratio of 88.06%,while it is 85.82% and 86.92% when only using separate one model respectively.

Accurate segmentation of MR brain tissue is a crucial step for diagnosis,surgical planning, and treatment of brain abnormalities. However,it is a time-consuming task to be performed by medical experts. So, automatic and reliable segmentation methods are required. How to choose appropriate training dataset from limited labeled dataset rather than the whole also has great significance in saving training time. In addition, medical data labeled is too rare and expensive to obtain extensively, so choosing appropriate unlabeled dataset instead of all the datasets to annotate, which can attain at least same performance, is also very meaningful. To solve the problem above, we design an automatic segmentation method based on U-shaped deep convolutional network and obtain excellent result with average DSC metric of 0.8610, 0.9131, 0.9003 for Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF), Gray Matter (GM) and White Matter (WM) respectively on the well-known IBSR18 dataset. We use bootstrapping algorithm for selecting the most effective training data and get more state-of-the-art segmentation performance by using only 50% of training data. Moreover, we propose a strategy of MR brain tissue images' suggestive annotation for unlabeled medical data based on the modified U-net. The proposed method performs fast and can be used in clinical.

High radiation dose in CT scans increases a lifetime risk of cancer and has become a major clinical concern. Recently, iterative reconstruction algorithms with Total Variation (TV) regularization have been developed to reconstruct CT images from highly undersampled data acquired at low mAs levels in order to reduce the imaging dose. Nonetheless, TV regularization may lead to over-smoothed images and lost edge information. To solve this problem, in this work we develop an iterative CT reconstruction algorithm with edge-preserving TV regularization to reconstruct CT images from highly undersampled data obtained at low mAs levels. The CT image is reconstructed by minimizing an energy consisting of an edge-preserving TV norm and a data fidelity term posed by the x-ray projections. The edge-preserving TV term is proposed to preferentially perform smoothing only on non-edge part of the image in order to avoid over-smoothing, which is realized by introducing a penalty weight to the original total variation norm. Our iterative algorithm is implemented on GPU to improve its speed. We test our reconstruction algorithm on a digital NCAT phantom, a physical chest phantom, and a Catphan phantom. Reconstruction results from a conventional FBP algorithm and a TV regularization method without edge preserving penalty are also presented for comparison purpose. The experimental results illustrate that both TV-based algorithm and our edge-preserving TV algorithm outperform the conventional FBP algorithm in suppressing the streaking artifacts and image noise under the low dose context.
