This paper reports on the design and construction of infrastructure and test stations for small-diameter monitored drift tube (sMDT) assembly and testing at the University of Michigan (UM) to prepare for the ATLAS Muon Spectrometer upgrade for the high-luminosity program of the Large Hadron Collider. Procedures of the tube assembly and quality assurance and control (QA/QC) tests are described in detail. More than 99% of the tubes meet the tube QA/QC specifications based on 2100 tubes built at UM. The UM test stations are also used for QA/QC testing on the tubes constructed at Michigan State University. These tubes are being used to construct the sMDT chambers which will replace the current MDT chambers of the barrel inner station of the Muon Spectrometer., Comment: 16 pages, 14 figures

A sensitivity study for the measurement of the CKM angle $\gamma$ from $B^0_s\rightarrow \tilde{D}^{(*)0}\phi$ decays is performed using $D$ meson reconstructed in the quasi flavour-specific modes $K\pi$, $K3\pi$, $K\pi\pi^0$, and \CP-eigenstate modes $KK$ and $\pi\pi$, where the notation $\tilde{D}^0$ corresponds to a $D^0$ or a ${\tilde{D}^0}$ meson. The LHCb experiment is taken as a use case. A statistical uncertainty of about $8-19^{\circ}$ can be achieved with the $pp$ collision data collected by the LHCb experiment from year 2011 to 2018. The sensitivity to $\gamma$ should be of the order $3-8^{\circ}$ after accumulating 23\invfb of $pp$ collision data by 2025, while it is expected to further improve with 300~fb$^{-1}$ by the second half of the 2030 decade. The accuracy depends on the strong parameters $r^{(*)}_{B}$ and ${\delta^{(*)}_{B}}$, describing, together with $\gamma$, the interference between the leading amplitudes of the $B^0_s\rightarrow \tilde{D}^{(*)0}\phi$ decays., Comment: 37 pages, 41 figures

We fit the spectral energy distributions (SEDs) of members of a large sample of Fermi 2LAC blazars to synchrotron and inverse Compton (IC) models. Our main results are as follows. (i) As suggested by previous works, the correlation between peak frequency and curvature can be explained by statistical or stochastic particle acceleration mechanisms. For BL Lacs, we find a linear correlation between synchrotron peak frequency and its curvature. The slope of the correlation is consistent with the stochastic acceleration mechanisms and confirm previous studies. For FSRQs, we also find a linear correlation, but its slope cannot be explained by previous theoretical models. (ii) We find a significant correlation between IC luminosity and synchrotron luminosity. The slope of the correlation of FSRQs is consistent with the EC process. And the slope of the correlation of BL Lac is consistent with the SSC process. (iii) We find several significant correlations between IC curvature and several basic parameters of blazars (black hole mass, broad line luminosity, the Lorentz factor of jet). We also find significant correlations between bolometric luminosity and these basic parameters of blazars which suggest that the origin of jet is a mixture of the mechanisms proposed by Blandford $\&$ Znajek and by Blandford $\&$ Payne., Comment: 17 pages, 9 figures, 5 tables. We apply the tidal truncation model proposed by Negueruela & Okazaki(2001) to arbitrary Be/compact star binaries to study the truncation efficiency dependance on the binary parameters. We find that the viscous decretion disks around the Be stars could be truncated very effectively in narrow systems. Combining this with the population synthesis results of Podsiadlowski, Rappaport and Han (2003) that binary black holes are most likely to be born in systems with orbital periods less than about 30 days, we suggest that most of the Be/black-hole binaries may be transient systems with very long quiescent states. This could explain the lack of observed Be/black-hole X-ray binaries. It is well known that the accretion disk around a magnetized compact star can penetrate inside the magnetospheric boundary, so the magnetospheric radius $\ro$ does not represent the true inner edge $\rin$ of the disk; but controversies exist in the literature concerning the relation between $\ro$ and $\rin$. In the model of Ghosh & Lamb, the width of the boundary layer is given by $\delta=\ro-\rin\ll\ro$, or $\rin\simeq\ro$, while Li & Wickramasinghe recently argued that $\rin$ could be significantly smaller than $\ro$ in the case of a slow rotator. Here we show that if the star is able to absorb the angular momentum of disk plasma at $\ro$, appropriate for binary X-ray pulsars, the inner disk radius can be constrained by $0.8\lsim \rin/\ro\lsim 1$, and the star reaches spin equilibrium with a relatively large value of the fastness parameter ($\sim 0.7-0.95$). For accreting neutron stars in low-mass X-ray binaries (LMXBs), $\ro$ is generally close to the stellar radius $\rs$ so that the toroidal field cannot transfer the spin-up torque efficiently to the star.
