Deci-hertz Interferometer Gravitational Wave Observatory (DECIGO) is the future Japanese space mission with a frequency band of 0.1 Hz to 10 Hz. DECIGO aims at the detection of primordial gravitational waves, which could be produced during the inflationary period right after the birth of the universe. There are many other scientific objectives of DECIGO, including the direct measurement of the acceleration of the expansion of the universe, and reliable and accurate predictions of the timing and locations of neutron star/black hole binary coalescences. DECIGO consists of four clusters of observatories placed in the heliocentric orbit. Each cluster consists of three spacecraft, which form three Fabry-Perot Michelson interferometers with an arm length of 1,000 km. Three clusters of DECIGO will be placed far from each other, and the fourth cluster will be placed in the same position as one of the three clusters to obtain the correlation signals for the detection of the primordial gravitational waves. We plan to launch B-DECIGO, which is a scientific pathfinder of DECIGO, before DECIGO in the 2030s to demonstrate the technologies required for DECIGO, as well as to obtain fruitful scientific results to further expand the multi-messenger astronomy., Comment: 10 pages, 3 figures

Waseda University Nasu telescope array is a spatial fast Fourier transform (FFT) interferometer consisting of eight linearly aligned antennas with 20 m spherical dishes. This type of interferometer was developed to survey transient radio sources with an angular resolution as high as that of a 160 m dish with a field of view as wide as that of a 20 m dish. We have been performing drift-scan-mode observations, in which the telescope scans the sky around a selected declination as the earth rotates. The black hole X-ray binary V404 Cygni underwent a new outburst in 2015 June after a quiescent period of 26 years. Because of the interest in black hole binaries, a considerable amount of data on this outburst at all wavelengths was accumulated. Using the above telescope, we had been monitoring V404 Cygni daily from one month before the X-ray outburst, and two radio flares at 1.4 GHz were detected on June 21.73 and June 26.71. The flux density and time-scale of each flare were 313+/-30 mJy and 1.50+/-0.49 days, 364+/-30 mJy and 1.70+/-0.16 days, respectively. We have also confirmed the extreme variation of radio spectra within a short period by collecting other radio data observed with several radio telescopes. Such spectral behaviors are considered to reflect the change in the opacity of the ejected blobs associated with these extreme activities in radio and X-ray. The preparation of a mechanical oscillator driven by quantum back-action is a fundamental requirement to reach the standard quantum limit (SQL) for force measurement, in optomechanical systems. However, thermal fluctuating force generally dominates a disturbance on the oscillator. In the macroscopic scale, an optical linear cavity including a suspended mirror has been used for the weak force measurement, such as gravitational-wave detectors. This configuration has the advantages of reducing the dissipation of the pendulum (i.e., suspension thermal noise) due to a gravitational dilution by using a thin wire, and of increasing the circulating laser power. However, the use of the thin wire is weak for an optical torsional anti-spring effect in the cavity, due to the low mechanical restoring force of the wire. Thus, there is the trade-off between the stability of the system and the sensitivity. Here, we describe using a triangular optical cavity to overcome this limitation for reaching the SQL. The triangular cavity can provide a sensitive and stable system, because it can optically trap the mirror's motion of the yaw, through an optical positive torsional spring effect. Quantum mechanics predicts superposition of position states even for macroscopic objects. Recently, the use of a quasi-freely suspended mirror combined with laser was proposed to prepare such states, by M\"uller-Ebhardt et al. [Phys.Rev.Lett.100, 013601 (2008)]. One of the key milestones towards this goal is the preparation of the mechanical oscillator mainly driven by quantum back-action, which identifies the connection between the object and quantumness of the light. We have set a new upper limit on the stochastic gravitational wave background (SGWB) using two prototype Torsion-bar Antennas (TOBAs). TOBA is a low-frequency gravitational-wave detector with bar-shaped test masses rotated by the tidal force of gravitational waves. As a result of simultaneous 7-hour observations with TOBAs in Tokyo and Kyoto in Japan, our upper limit with a confidence level of 95% is $\Omega_{\rm gw}h_0^2 < 1.9 \times 10^{17}$ at 0.035 - 0.830 Hz, where $h_{0}$ is the Hubble constant in units of 100 km/s/Mpc and $\Omega_{\rm gw}$ is the gravitational wave energy density per logarithmic frequency interval in units of the closure density. We have developed an apparatus to test Lorentz invariance in the photon sector by measuring the resonant frequency difference between two counterpropagating directions of an asymmetric optical ring cavity using a double-pass configuration. No significant evidence for the violation was found at the level of $\delta c /c \lesssim 10^{-14}$. Details of our apparatus and recent results are presented., Comment: 4 pages, 1 figure. A search for Lorentz violation in electrodynamics was performed by measuring the resonant frequency difference between two counterpropagating directions of an optical ring cavity. Our cavity contains a dielectric element, which makes our cavity sensitive to the violation. The laser frequency is stabilized to the counterclockwise resonance of the cavity, and the transmitted light is reflected back into the cavity for resonant frequency comparison with the clockwise resonance. This double-pass configuration enables a null experiment and gives high common mode rejection of environmental disturbances. We found no evidence for odd-parity anisotropy at the level of $\delta c /c \lesssim 10^{-14}$. Within the framework of the Standard Model Extension, our result put more than 5 times better limits on three odd-parity parameters $\tilde{\kappa}^{JK}_{o+}$ and a 12 times better limit on the scalar parameter $\tilde{\kappa}_{\tr}$ compared with the previous best limits., Comment: 4 pages, 3 figures

We present the first upper limit on gravitational wave (GW) backgrounds at an unexplored frequency of 0.2 Hz using a torsion-bar antenna (TOBA). A TOBA was proposed to search for low-frequency GWs. We have developed a small-scaled TOBA and successfully found {\Omega}gw(f) < 4.3 \times 1017 at 0.2 Hz as demonstration of the TOBA's capabilities, where {\Omega}gw (f) is the GW energy density per logarithmic frequency interval in units of the closure density. Our result is the first nonintegrated limit to bridge the gap between the LIGO band (around 100 Hz) and the Cassini band (10-6 - 10-4 Hz)., Comment: 4 pages, 5 figures

Current status of TAMA and CLIO detectors in Japan is reported in this article. These two interferometric gravitational-wave detectors are being developed for the large cryogenic gravitational wave telescope (LCGT) which is a future plan for detecting gravitational wave signals at least once per year. TAMA300 is being upgraded to improve the sensitivity in low frequency region after the last observation experiment in 2004. To reduce the seismic noises, we are installing new seismic isolation system, which is called TAMA Seismic Attenuation System, for the four test masses. We confirmed stable mass locks of a cavity and improvements of length and angular fluctuations by using two SASs. We are currently optimizing the performance of the third and fourth SASs. We continue TAMA300 operation and R&D studies for LCGT. Next data taking in the summer of 2007 is planned. CLIO is a 100-m baseline length prototype detector for LCGT to investigate interferometer performance in cryogenic condition. The key features of CLIO are that it locates Kamioka underground site for low seismic noise level, and adopts cryogenic Sapphire mirrors for low thermal noise level. The first operation of the cryogenic interferometer was successfully demonstrated in February of 2006. Current sensitivity at room temperature is close to the target sensitivity within a factor of 4. Several observation experiments at room temperature have been done. We modified the modal expansion, which is the traditional method used to calculate thermal noise. This advanced modal expansion provides physical insight about the discrepancy between the actual thermal noise caused by inhomogeneously distributed loss and the traditional modal expansion. This discrepancy comes from correlations between the thermal fluctuations of the resonant modes. The thermal noise spectra estimated by the advanced modal expansion are consistent with the results of measurements of thermal fluctuations caused by inhomogeneous losses., Comment: 10 pages, 4 figures
