Accurate modeling of eye gaze dynamics is essential for advancement in human-computer interaction, neurological diagnostics, and cognitive research. Traditional generative models like Markov models often fail to capture the complex temporal dependencies and distributional nuance inherent in eye gaze trajectories data. This study introduces a GAN framework employing LSTM and CNN generators and discriminators to generate high-fidelity synthetic eye gaze velocity trajectories. We conducted a comprehensive evaluation of four GAN architectures: CNN-CNN, LSTM-CNN, CNN-LSTM, and LSTM-LSTM trained under two conditions: using only adversarial loss and using a weighted combination of adversarial and spectral losses. Our findings reveal that the LSTM-CNN architecture trained with this new loss function exhibits the closest alignment to the real data distribution, effectively capturing both the distribution tails and the intricate temporal dependencies. The inclusion of spectral regularization significantly enhances the GANs ability to replicate the spectral characteristics of eye gaze movements, leading to a more stable learning process and improved data fidelity. Comparative analysis with an HMM optimized to four hidden states further highlights the advantages of the LSTM-CNN GAN. Statistical metrics show that the HMM-generated data significantly diverges from the real data in terms of mean, standard deviation, skewness, and kurtosis. In contrast, the LSTM-CNN model closely matches the real data across these statistics, affirming its capacity to model the complexity of eye gaze dynamics effectively. We show that connectivity within the high-dimensional recurrent layer of a reservoir network is crucial for its performance. To this end, we systematically investigate the impact of network connectivity on its performance, i.e., we examine the symmetry and structure of the reservoir in relation to its computational power. Reservoirs with random and asymmetric connections are found to perform better for an exemplary Mackey-Glass time series than all structured reservoirs, including biologically inspired connectivities, such as small-world topologies. Robust solid-state protein junctions (RPJs) with permanent contacts are essential for a wide range of studies aimed at elucidating the mechanisms for electron transport across such junctions and their possible applications. Here we report on first time, RPJs formed with vacuum-evaporated carbon (eC) followed by Au as top electrode set on a single bilayer of bacteriorhodopsin (bR), self-assembled from so-lution on an Au substrate. The light-induced photocycle of bR, as well as the amide I & II vibrational frequencies of bR, were unchanged upon eC deposition; the yield of the resulting junctions was reproducible ~ 90 % (non-shorted), and they were stable between ~ 10 and 300K. The current-voltage characteristics of these junc-tions were temperature-independent and the junctions were stable for several months. Hence, such robust all-solid-state protein junctions provide valuable tools for investigating the potential use of proteins in future bio-molecular electronic de-vices.

We explore the use of quantum generative adversarial networks QGANs for modeling eye movement velocity data. We assess whether the advanced computational capabilities of QGANs can enhance the modeling of complex stochastic distribution beyond the traditional mathematical models, particularly the Markov model. The findings indicate that while QGANs demonstrate potential in approximating complex distributions, the Markov model consistently outperforms in accurately replicating the real data distribution. This comparison underlines the challenges and avenues for refinement in time series data generation using quantum computing techniques. We investigate the potential of bio-inspired evolutionary algorithms for designing quantum circuits with specific goals, focusing on two particular tasks. The first one is motivated by the ideas of Artificial Life that are used to reproduce stochastic cellular automata with given rules. We test the robustness of quantum implementations of the cellular automata for different numbers of quantum gates The second task deals with the sampling of quantum circuits that generate highly entangled quantum states, which constitute an important resource for quantum computing. In particular, an evolutionary algorithm is employed to optimize circuits with respect to a fitness function defined with the Mayer-Wallach entanglement measure. We demonstrate that, by balancing the mutation rate between exploration and exploitation, we can find entangling quantum circuits for up to five qubits. We also discuss the trade-off between the number of gates in quantum circuits and the computational costs of finding the gate arrangements leading to a strongly entangled state. Our findings provide additional insight into the trade-off between the complexity of a circuit and its performance, which is an important factor in the design of quantum circuits.

Contributions: An adoption framework to include GenAI in the university curriculum. It identifies and highlights the role of different stakeholders (university management, students, staff, etc.) during the adoption process. It also proposes an objective approach based upon an evaluation matrix to assess the success and outcome of the GenAI adoption. Background: Universities worldwide are debating and struggling with the adoption of GenAI in their curriculum. Both the faculty and students are unsure about the approach in the absence of clear guidelines through the administration and regulators. This requires an established framework to define a process and articulate the roles and responsibilities of each stakeholder involved. Research Questions: Whether the academic ecosystem requires a methodology to adopt GenAI into its curriculum? A systematic approach for the academic staff to ensure the students' learning outcomes are met with the adoption of GenAI. How to measure and communicate the adoption of GenAI in the university setup? Methodology: The methodology employed in this study focuses on examining the university education system and assessing the opportunities and challenges related to incorporating GenAI in teaching and learning. Additionally, it identifies a gap and the absence of a comprehensive framework that obstructs the effective integration of GenAI within the academic environment. Findings: The literature survey results indicate the limited or no adoption of GenAI by the university, which further reflects the dilemma in the minds of different stakeholders. For the successful adoption of GenAI, a standard framework is proposed i) for effective redesign of the course curriculum, ii) for enabling staff and students, iii) to define an evaluation matrix to measure the effectiveness and success of the adoption process.

Platinum, Silver-Platinum embedded Zirconia (Pt/Ag-Pt ZrO2) thin films have been fabricated on silicon wafers and glass substrates using the plasma co-sputtering method. Zirconia thin films are of significant technological importance due to their remarkable electrical, optical, and mechanical properties, as well as their high melting temperature of 2715{\deg}C, which makes them increasingly attractive for various applications. In this study, ZrO2 thin films were deposited for 3 minutes, followed by the deposition of Pt-Ag/Pt onto the fabricated zirconia thin films, with deposition times ranging from 15 to 60 seconds. The varying deposition times of Pt-Ag/Pt influenced the optical and electronic properties of the thin films due to alterations in their surface roughness. The characteristics of the grown zirconia and Pt/Ag-Pt sputtered zirconia nanostructures were investigated using Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), X-ray Diffraction (XRD), UV-visible spectroscopy, and Photoluminescence spectroscopy. The optical transmittance of these thin films was examined across the visible and near-infrared spectral ranges. The investigation revealed various properties, such as enhanced photoluminescence and the emergence of new peaks in the visible range spectra. Plasmonic peaks were induced, and an increase in the sharpness of these peaks was observed between 403.15 nm and 512.10 nm for the Pt/Ag-Pt deposited samples. This enhancement in photoluminescence is attributed to the plasmonic properties of Pt-Ag nanoparticles on the zirconia thin film. The study demonstrates that these optically tuned thin film coatings, with their enhanced photoluminescence properties, can significantly improve the heat-resistance capacity of devices, mitigating issues related to overheating and device shutdown., Comment: 8 figures, 1 table

Destructive interference-based photon-phonon antibunching can lead to violations of classical inequalities in optomechanical cavity systems. In this paper, we explore the violation of the classical Cauchy-Schwarz inequality by examining second-order auto-correlation and cross-correlation functions, as well as Bell's nonlocality, to analyze the quantum correlations of single photon-phonon excitations when the system is driven by two weak probe fields. We propose that the violation of the Cauchy-Schwarz inequality can serve as an indicator for the stronger nonclassical tests associated with Bell's theorem. Our system reveals strong quantum correlations of photon-phonon pairs with distinctive antidiagonal patterns of photon filtering. For numerical analysis, we consider a weak effective optomechanical coupling strength and various optical-to-mechanical field amplitude ratios that enable unconventional photon (phonon) blockades at resonance. GenAI has gained the attention of a myriad of users in almost every profession. Its advancement has had an intense impact on education, significantly disrupting the assessment design and evaluation methodologies. Despite the potential benefits and possibilities of GenAI in the education sector, there are several concerns primarily centred around academic integrity, authenticity, equity of access, assessment evaluation methodology, and feedback. Consequently, academia is encountering challenges in assessment design that are essential to retaining academic integrity in the age of GenAI. In this article, we discuss the challenges, and opportunities that need to be addressed for the assessment design and evaluation. The article also highlights the importance of clear policy about the usage of GenAI in completing assessment tasks, and also in design approaches to ensure academic integrity and subject learning. Additionally, this article also provides assessment categorisation based on the use of GenAI to cultivate knowledge among students and academic professionals. Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection is the most common sexually transmitted infection in the world. Persistent oncogenic Human papillomavirus infection has been a leading threat to global health and can lead to serious complications such as cervical cancer. Prevention interventions including vaccination and screening have been proved effective in reducing the risk of HPV-related diseases. In recent decades, computational epidemiology has been serving as a very useful tool to study HPV transmission dynamics and evaluation of prevention strategies. In this paper, we conduct a comprehensive literature review on state-of-the-art computational epidemic models for HPV disease dynamics, transmission dynamics, as well as prevention efforts. We summarise current research trends, identify gaps in the present literature, and identify future research directions with potential in accelerating the containment and/or elimination of HPV infection.

Biologically important molecules span a size range from very large biomacromolecules, such as proteins to small metabolite molecules. Consequently, spectroscopic techniques which can detect and characterize the structure of inherently chiral biomolecules over this range of scale at the femtomole level are necessary to develop novel biosensing and diagnostic technologies. Nanophotonic platforms uniquely enable chirally sensitive structural characterisation of biomacromolecules at this ultrasensitive level. However, they are less successful at achieving the same level of sensitivity for small chiral molecules, with less than nanomole typical. This poorer performance can be attributed to the optical response of the platform being sensitive to a much larger volume of the near field than is occupied by the small molecule. Here we show that by combining chiral plasmonic metasurfaces with Raman reporters, which can detect changes in electromagnetic environment at molecular dimensions, chiral discrimination can be achieved for attomole quantities of a small molecule, the amino acid cysteine. The signal-to-noise, and hence ultimate sensitivity, of the measurement can be further improved by combining the metasurfaces with gold achiral nanoparticles. This indirect enantiomeric detection is 9 orders of magnitude more sensitive than strategies relying on monitoring the Raman response of target chiral molecules directly. Given the generic nature of the phenomenon,this study provides a framework for developing novel technologies for detecting a broad spectrum of small biomolecules, which would be useful tools in the field of metabolomics.

The optomechanical cavity (OMC) system has been a paradigm in the manifestation of continuous variable quantum information over the past decade. This paper investigates how quantum phase synchronization relates to bipartite Gaussian entanglement in coupled gain-loss mechanical oscillators, where the gain and loss rates are engineered by driving the cavity with blue and red detuned lasers, respectively. We examine the role of exceptional point in a deterministic way of producing self-sustained oscillations that induce robust quantum correlations among quadrature fluctuations of the oscillators. Particularly, steady phase synchronization dynamics along with the entanglement phenomena are observed in the effective weak coupling regime above a critical driving power. These phenomena are further verified by observing the mechanical squeezing and phase space rotations of the Wigner distributions. Additionally, we discuss how the oscillators frequency mismatches and decoherence due to thermal phonons impact the system dynamics. Computing platforms in autonomous vehicles record large amounts of data from many sensors, process the data through machine learning models, and make decisions to ensure the vehicle's safe operation. Fast, accurate, and reliable decision-making is critical. Traditional computer processors lack the power and flexibility needed for the perception and machine vision demands of advanced autonomous driving tasks. Hardware accelerators are special-purpose coprocessors that help autonomous vehicles meet performance requirements for higher levels of autonomy. This paper provides an overview of ML accelerators with examples of their use for machine vision in autonomous vehicles. We offer recommendations for researchers and practitioners and highlight a trajectory for ongoing and future research in this emerging field.

We investigate the predictability aspects of rotating turbulent flows through extensive numerical simulations of a shell model of rotating turbulence. In particular, we measure the large-scale predictability time and find that it increases with rotation rate to satisfy a power law in Rossby number with a scaling exponent of $-2/3$. Intriguingly, we find that before entering the algebraic growth stage, the error dynamics freezes for a time period determined by the finite Rossby number. We further analyse the scale dependence of the predictability time and observe that it tends to become scale independent in the Zeman range as the Rossby number decreases. Finally, we compute the finite size Lyapunov exponent and validate the dimensional prediction of its scaling $\sim\delta^{-1}$ for large $\delta$ of the order of velocities in the Zeman range for small Rossby numbers., Comment: 8 pages, 4 figures

Designing directional optical antennas without compromising the field enhancement requires specially designed optical cavities. Herein, we report on the experimental observations of directional photoluminescence emission from a monolayer Tungsten Disulfide using a bent-plasmonic nanowire on a mirror cavity. The geometry provides field enhancement and directivity to photoluminescence by sandwiching the monolayer between an extended cavity formed by dropcasting bent silver nanowire and a gold mirror. We image the photoluminescence emission wavevectors by using the Fourier plane imaging technique. The cavity out-couples the emission in a narrow range of wavevectors with a radial and azimuthal spreading of only 11.0{\deg} and 25.1{\deg}, respectively. Furthermore, we performed three dimensional finite difference time domain based numerical calculations to corroborate and understand the experimental results. We envisage that the results presented here will be readily harnessed for on-chip coupling applications and in designing inelastic optical antennas.

We investigate the scaling form of appropriate time-scales extracted from time-dependent correlation functions in rotating, turbulent flows. In particular, we obtain precise estimates of the dynamic exponents $z_p$, associated with the time-scales, and their relation with the more commonly measured equal-time exponents $\zeta_p$. Much effort is being made to ensure the safety of people. One of the main requirements of travellers and city administrators is to have knowledge of places that are more prone to criminal activities. To rate a place as a potential crime location, it needs the past crime history at that location. Such data is not easily available in the public domain, however, it floats around on the Internet in the form of newspaper and social media posts, in an unstructured manner though. Consequently, a large number of works are reported on extracting crime information from news articles, providing piecemeal solutions to the problem. This chapter complements these works by building an end-to-end framework for crime profiling of any given location/area. It customizes individual components of the framework and provides a Spatio-temporal integration of crime information. It develops an automated framework that crawls online news articles, analyzes them, and extracts relevant information to create a crime knowledge base that gets dynamically updated in real-time. The crime density can be easily visualized in the form of a heat map which is generated by the knowledge base. As a case study, it investigates 345448 news articles published by 6 daily English newspapers collected for approximately two years. Engineering optical emission from two dimensional, transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) materials such as Tungsten disulphide (WS2) has implications in creating and understanding nanophotonic sources. One of the challenges in controlling the optical emission from 2D materials is to achieve narrow angular spread using a simple photonic geometry. In this paper, we study how the photoluminescence of a monolayer WS2 can be controlled when coupled to film coupled microsphere dielectric antenna. Specifically, by employing Fourier plane microscopy and spectroscopic techniques, we quantify the wavevector distribution in the momentum space. As a result, we show beaming of the WS2 photoluminescence with angular divergence of {\theta}1/2 = 4.6{\deg}. Furthermore, the experimental measurements have been supported by three-dimensional numerical simulations. We envisage that the discussed results can be generalized to a variety of nanophotonic 2D materials, and can be harnessed in nonlinear and quantum technology.

We report on the experimental observation of beaming elastic and surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) emission from a bent-nanowire on a mirror (B-NWoM) cavity. The system was probed with polarization resolved Fourier plane and energy-momentum imaging to study the spectral and angular signature of the emission wavevectors. The out-coupled elastically scattered light from the kink occupies a narrow angular spread. We used a self-assembled monolayer of molecules with a well-defined molecular orientation to utilize the out-of-plane electric field in the cavity for enhancing Raman emission from the molecules and in achieving beaming SERS emission. Calculated directionality for elastic scattering and SERS emission were found to be 16.2 and 12.5 dB respectively. The experimental data were corroborated with three-dimensional numerical finite element and finite difference time domain based numerical simulations. The results presented here may find relevance in understanding coupling of emitters with elongated plasmonic cavities and in designing on-chip optical antennas.

Advancement in Processor technology has made it easy to handle data-intensive workloads, but limiting main memory advances has created performance bottlenecks. In DRAM, there have been improvements in DRAM access latency as well as reduction in cost-per-bit with the increase in cell density. But still DRAM data transfer rate lags behind the processing speed of the current generation processors. As Memory advancements based on hardware have been progressing at a slower pace, to cope up with High-end Processors, Architectural level advancements such as Prediction techniques, Replacement policies, etc are the major subject. In the recent field of research, Data prediction is a sought out topic as correct prediction can boost performance by decreasing the amount of excess memory access by predicting data beforehand using data access trends and behaviors. Though prediction techniques have been implemented at most of the Computer Architecture, We propose implementing data prediction in DRAM level architectures like TL-DRAM and CROW. Both of these method distributes the DRAM into different parts which contain a smaller section which is faster and larger section which contains the bulk of data but is comparatively slower. We wish to use data prediction in between these sections of memory to have predicted data transferred to the faster sections to improve the overall performance by reducing the memory access time.

Aim: To study the multimessenger nature of the signal that can result from the phase transition of a neutron star to a quark star and their corresponding astrophysical observations. Methods: The phase transition process is initiated by the abrupt pressure and density changes at the star center, giving rise to a shock which deconfines matter followed by a weak front converting excess down to strange quarks to attain absolute stability. This process's effects are investigated by understanding how the energy escapes from the star in the form of neutrino-antineutrino annihilation. For such annihilation process, the corresponding energy deposition rate is calculated. Structural changes due to the energy loss have been investigated in the likes of misalignment angle evolution of the star and its astrophysical observation through gravitational waves. Results: The energy and time signature for the neutrino-antineutrino annihilation is compared with the observed isotropic energy for a short gamma-ray burst. The misalignment angle evolves to align the star's tilt axis, which can lead to the sudden increase or decrease of radio intensity from the pulsar. The corresponding gravitational wave emission, both continuous and burst, all lead towards multimessenger signals coming from the phase transition., Comment: 9 pages, 7 figures

Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations are used for many air flow simulations including road vehicle aerodynamics. Numerical diffusion occurs when local flow direction is not aligned with the mesh lines and when there is a non-zero gradient of the dependent variable in the direction normal to the streamline direction. It has been observed that typical numerical discretization schemes for the Navier-Stokes equations such as first order upwinding produce very accurate solutions without numerical diffusion when the mesh is aligned with the streamline directions. On the other hand, numerical diffusion is maximized when the streamline direction is at an angle of 45{\deg} relative to the mesh line. The amount of numerical diffusion can be reduced by mesh refinements such as aligning mesh lines along the local flow direction or by introducing higher order numerical schemes which may introduce potential numerical instability or additional computational cost. Couple test cases of a simple steady-state incompressible and inviscid air flow convection problem were used to investigate whether numerical diffusion occurs when using Physics Informed Neural Networks (PINNs) that rely on automatic differentiation as opposed to numerical techniques used in traditional Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) solvers. Numerical diffusion was not observed when PINNs were used to solve the Partial Differential Equation (PDE) for the simple convection problem irrespective of flow angle. The PINN correctly simulated the streamwise upwinding, which has great potential to improve the accuracy of Navier-Stokes solvers.

Influencing spectral and directional features of exciton emission characteristics from 2D transition metal dichalcogenides by coupling it to plasmonic nano-cavities has emerged as an important prospect in nanophotonics of 2D materials. In this paper we experimentally study the directional photoluminescence emission from Tungsten disulfide (WS2) monolayer sandwiched between a single-crystalline plasmonic silver nanowire (AgNW) waveguide and a gold (Au) mirror, thus forming an AgNW-WS2-Au cavity. By employing polarization-resolved Fourier plane optical microscopy, we quantify the directional emission characteristics from the distal end of the AgNW-WS2-Au cavity. Given that our geometry simultaneously facilitates local field enhancement and waveguiding capability, we envisage its utility in 2D material-based, on-chip nanophotonic signal processing, including nonlinear and quantum optical regimes., Comment: To appear in Advanced Photonics Research (2021)

Newton's third law states that any action is countered by a reaction of equal magnitude but opposite direction. The total force in a system not affected by external forces is thus zero. However, according to the principles of relativity, a signal cannot propagate at speeds exceeding the speed of light. Hence the action and reaction cannot be generated at the same time due to the relativity of simultaneity. Thus, the total force cannot be null at a given time. In a previous paper \cite{MTAY1}, we have shown that Newt\-on'n third law cannot strictly hold in a distributed system, where the different parts are at a finite distance from each other. This is due to the finite speed of signal propagation, which cannot exceed the speed of light in the vacuum. A specific example of two current loops with time dependent currents demonstrated that the summing of the total force in the system does not add up to zero. This analysis led to the suggestion of a relativistic engine \cite{MTAY3,AY1}. As the system is affected by a total force for a finite period, the system acquires mechanical momentum and energy. Now the question then arises how can we accommodate the law of momentum and energy conservation. The subject of momentum conversation was discussed in \cite{MTAY4}, while preliminary results regarding energy conservation were discussed in \cite{AY2,RY,RY2}. Previous analysis relied on the fact that the bodies were macroscopically natural, which means that the number of electrons and ions is equal in every volume element. Understanding the intra-cavity field dynamics in passive microresonator systems has already been intriguing. It becomes fascinating when the system is complex, such as a concentric dual microring resonator that exhibit avoided mode crossing (AMC). In this work, we present a systematic study of intra-cavity oscillatory field dynamics near AMC in a concentric silicon nitride microring resonator with the help of the coupled Lugiato-Lefever equation (LLE). We identify two regions viz. weakly coupled region (WCR) and strongly coupled region (SCR) based on eigenfrequency separation of the two-hybrid modes, which originate from mode coupling near AMC. In WCR, the mode coupling effect is dominant, leading to intra-cavity power oscillation between these two modes in a periodic manner and non-identical variation of their phases. In SCR, the mode coupling effect reduces gradually with nearly identical characteristics of both the modes. We further verify our numerical findings with the semi-analytical variational method, leading to an in-depth understanding of the mode coupling induced dynamics. We finally analyze the polarization evolving state, and the polarization locked state with the help of Stokes parameters and Jones vectors in WCR and SCR, respectively.

This article studies the maximum mass limit of the quark star formed after the shock-induced phase transition of a cold neutron star. By employing hadronic and quark equation of state that satisfies the current mass bound, we use combustion adiabat conditions to find such a limit. The combustion adiabat condition results in a local or a global maximum pressure at an intermediate density range. The maximum pressure corresponds to a local or global maximum mass for the phase transformed hybrid star. The phase transition is usually exothermic if we have a local maximum mass. The criteria for exothermic or endothermic phase transition depend on whether the quark pressure/energy ratios to nuclear pressure/energy are smaller or greater than 1. We find that exothermic phase transition in a cold neutron star usually results in hybrid stars whose mass is smaller than a parent neutron star. The phase transition is endothermic for a global maximum pressure; thereby, one gets a global maximum mass. Hybrid stars much massive than phase transformed local maximum mass can be formed, provided there is some external energy source during the phase transition process. However, for some cases, even massive hybrid stars can form with exothermic phase transition for EoSs having global maximum pressure., Comment: 10 pages, 4 figures, 4 tables

In the months following the introduction of vaccines, their availability and the human resources needed to run the vaccination programmes have been scarce in many countries. Herein we report experimental evidence of directional SERS from molecules situated inside a single nanowire-nanoparticle junction cavity. The emission was confined to a narrow range of wavevectors perpendicular to the axis of the cavity. In addition to this, the molecules excite multiple guided modes of the nanowire which were imaged using leakage radiation Fourier microscopy. We further characterize the emission wavevectors as a function of output polarization. The excited guided modes of the wire show interesting polarization signatures. All the results were corroborated using finite element method based numerical simulations. Essentially, we provide an important connection between gap-cavity enhanced Raman scattering and its directionality of emission. The results may be of relevance in understanding the cavity electrodynamics at the nanoscale and molecular coupling to extremely small gaps between a one dimensional and a zero-dimensional plasmonic nanostructure.

Employing Coulomb-coupled systems, we demonstrate a cryogenic non-local refrigeration engine, that circumvents the need for a change in the energy resolved system-to-reservoir coupling, demanded by the recently proposed non-local refrigerators. We demonstrate that an intentionally introduced energy difference between the ground states of adjacent tunnel coupled quantum dots, associated with Coulomb coupling, is sufficient to extract heat from a remote target reservoir. Investigating the performance and operating regime using quantum-master-equation (QME) approach, we point out to some crucial aspects of the proposed refrigeration engine. In particular, we demonstrate that the maximum cooling power for the proposed set-up is limited to about $70\%$ of the optimal design. Proceeding further, we point out that to achieve a target reservoir temperature, lower compared to the average temperature of the current path, the applied voltage must be greater than a given threshold voltage $V_{TH}$, that increases with decrease in the target reservoir temperature. In addition, we demonstrate that the maximum cooling power, as well as the coefficient of performance deteriorates as one approaches a lower target reservoir temperature. The novelty of the proposed refrigeration engine is the integration of fabrication simplicity along with descent cooling power. In a previous paper we have shown that Newton's third law cannot strictly hold in a distributed system of which the different parts are at a finite distance from each other. This is due to the finite speed of signal propagation which cannot exceed the speed of light at vacuum, which in turn means that when summing the total force in the system the force does not add up to zero. This was demonstrated in a specific example of two current loops with time dependent currents, the above analysis led to suggestion of a relativistic engine. Since the system is effected by a total force for a finite period of time this means that the system acquires mechanical momentum and energy, the question then arises how can we accommodate the law of momentum and energy conservation. The subject of momentum conversation was discussed in a previous paper, while preliminary results regarding energy conservation were discussed in previous papers. Here we give a complete analysis of the exchange of energy between the mechanical part of the relativistic engine and the field part, the energy radiated from the relativistic engine is also discussed. We report the suppression of intermodal modulation instability peaks as a consequence of Kerr induced self beam-cleaning in a 90m long graded-index multimode optical fiber under various specific launching conditions. The output spectrum and the modal beam profiles for three modes (LP01, LP11, and LP21) have been recorded for several values of pump pulse energy. Experimental findings establish that the nonlinear coupling among the guided modes leads to reshaping the output speckle pattern into a bell shape or higher-order spatially clean beam profile as the pump peak power increases, whereas in spectral-domain intermodal modulation instability peaks are observed whose amplitude increases gradually to its maximum value and beyond certain threshold power, the intermodal modulation instability peaks diminish. This suggests the possibility to generate intermodal modulation instability free broadband spectra at high pump peak powers.

Fluctuation at the neutron star center gives rise to a small deconfined quark core very close to the star center. The density discontinuity at the quark-hadron boundary initiates a shock wave, which propagates outwards of the star. The shock has enough energy to combust nuclear matter to 2-flavor quark matter in the star. The 2-flavor quark matter is not stable and settles to a stable 3-flavor matter in the weakly interacting timescale. In this paper, we study the conversion of 2-flavor matter to 3-flavor matter. We set up a differential equation to convert the excess of down quarks to strange quarks involving weak reaction and diffusion of quarks. Calculating the reaction rate, we solve the differential equation to find the velocity of the conversion front. As the conversion front moves out, the density profile changes, bringing about a change in the star's quadrupole moment and thereby emitting gravitational waves. We find that the GW signal depends strongly on the star temperature and mass. The GW amplitude of a colder star is well within present detector capability, but the frequency is slightly on the higher side. Relatively hotter stars are on the boundary of present detectors and easily detectable with future detectors, and their frequency is also within the present detectability range. In comparison, PT from galactic pulsars is easily detectable with present detectors., Comment: 14 pages and 11 figures

We investigate the connection between the inertial range and the dissipation range statistics of rotating turbulence through detailed simulations of a helical shell model and a multifractal analysis. In particular, by using the latter, we find an explicit relation between the (anomalous) scaling exponents of equal-time structure functions in the inertial range in terms of the generalised dimensions associated with the energy dissipation rate. This theoretical prediction is validated by detailed simulations of a helical shell model for various strengths of rotation from where the statistics of dissipation rate, and thus the generalised dimensions, as well as the inertial range, in particular the anomalous scaling exponents, are extracted. Our work also underlines a surprisingly good agreement---such as in the spatial structure of the energy dissipation rates and the decrease in inertial range intermittency with increasing strengths of rotation---between solutions of the Navier--Stokes equation in a rotating frame with those obtained from low-dimensional, dynamical systems such as the shell model which are not explicitly anisotropic. Finally, we perform direct numerical simulations of the Navier--Stokes equation, with the Coriolis force incorporated, to confirm the robustness of the conclusions drawn from our multifractal and shell model studies., Comment: 18 pages with 7 figures. Light-activated colloidal assembly and swarming can act as model systems to explore non-equilibrium state of matter. In this context, creating new experimental platforms to facilitate and control two-dimensional assembly of colloidal crystals are of contemporary interest. In this paper, we present an experimental study of assembly of colloidal silica microparticles in the vicinity of a single-crystalline gold microplate evanescently excited by a 532 nm laser beam. The gold microplate acts as a source of heat and establishes a thermal gradient in the system. The created optothermal potential assembles colloids to form a two-dimensional poly-crystal, and we quantify the coordination number and hexagonal packing order of the assembly in such a driven system. Interestingly, we observe variation in assembly-size as a function of excitation-polarization. Furthermore, we observe that the assembly is colloidal-material dependent. Specifically, silica colloids assemble but polystyrene colloids do not, indicating an intricate behaviour of the forces under play. Our work highlights a promising direction in utilizing metallic, single crystalline microstructures that can be harnessed for optothermal colloidal crystal assembly and swarming studies. We report on the generation, and momentum space distribution of fluorescence emission from individual SiO2 microsphere on dye coated Au mirror. The molecular fluorescence emission mediated via whispering gallery modes of the sphere is studied using polarization resolved optical energy-momentum micro-spectroscopy. Our experiments reveal intensity dependence of split modes of the cavity as a function of in-plane wavevector and emission polarization in the far field. The exotic far-field distribution can be understood by sphere-image sphere model that further reveals the polarization dependence of the split modes. The presented results reveal the potential of metallo-dielectric soft micro-cavities to engineer molecular emission that can encode spin and orbital angular momentum states and can be further extrapolated to realize dye-loaded active meta-atoms and meta-surfaces.

We report a detailed semi-analytical treatment to investigate the dynamics of a single cavity soliton (CS) and two co-propagating CSs separately in a Kerr mediated passive optical fiber resonator which is driven by a phase-modulated pump. The perturbation is dealt with by introducing a Rayleigh's dissipation function in the framework of variational principle that results in a set of coupled ordinary differential equations describing the evolution of individual soliton parameters. We further derive closed-form expressions for quick estimation of the temporal trajectory, drift velocity and the phase shift accumulated by the CS due to the externally modulated pump. We also extend the variational approach to solve two solitons interaction problem in the absence as well as in the presence of the externally modulated field. In absence of phase modulated field, the two copropagating solitons can attract, repulse or can propagate independently depending on their initial delay. The final state of interaction can be predicted through a second-order differential equation which is derived by the variational method. While in presence of the phase modulated field, the two solitons interaction can result in annihilation, merging, breathing or two soliton state depending on the detuning frequency and the pump power. Variational treatment analytically predicts these states and portrays the related dynamics that agrees with full numerical simulation carried out by solving the normalized Lugiato-Lefever equation. The results obtained through this variational approach will enrich the understanding of complex pulse dynamics under phase modulated driving field in passive dissipative systems.

An approximation model based on convolutional neural networks (CNNs) is proposed for flow field predictions. The CNN is used to predict the velocity and pressure field in unseen flow conditions and geometries given the pixelated shape of the object. In particular, we consider Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) flow solutions over airfoil shapes. The CNN can automatically detect essential features with minimal human supervision and shown to effectively estimate the velocity and pressure field orders of magnitude faster than the RANS solver, making it possible to study the impact of the airfoil shape and operating conditions on the aerodynamic forces and the flow field in near-real time. The use of specific convolution operations, parameter sharing, and robustness to noise are shown to enhance the predictive capabilities of CNN. We explore the network architecture and its effectiveness in predicting the flow field for different airfoil shapes, angles of attack, and Reynolds numbers.

We present detailed experimental study on noise-seeded intermodal modulation instability (IM-MI) in normal dispersion region of a conventional step-index fiber. The sharp refractive index contrast between core and cladding leads to large group velocity mismatch between the spatial modes, coaxing to efficient IM-MI and generation of multiple spectral peaks along with Raman peaks. Evolution of the spectrum with pump powers and fiber lengths are observed. Experimental findings are well supported with the theoretical framework based on bimodal-MI model considering the distinct dispersion parameters of the participating modes.

We investigate the evolution of coherence property of noise-seeded Stokes wave in short (< 1 ps) and long pulse (> 1 ps) regimes. Nonlinear equations expressing the evolution of pump and Stokes wave are solved numerically for both the regions. The simulations include quantum noise by incorporating noise seed in the pump field where one photon per mode with random phase. The spectral phase fluctuations of the Stokes wave for both the regions, are characterized by performing multiple simulations and finally, the degrees of first-order mutual coherence are calculated as a function of wavelength for different conditions. Our statistical analysis proclaim that noise-seeded stimulated Raman process, which plays the role in degradation of coherence in short pulse region, exhibits strong phase synchronization in long pulse regime. The manifestation of phase synchronization occurs by the transition of the Stokes wave from incoherent to coherent spectra in long pulse regime.

The uranium containing phosphatic shale sub surface samples collected from Bijawar region Madhya Pradesh (M.P.), India as a part of the uranium exploration programme of the Atomic Minerals Directorate for Exploration and Research (AMD), Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) were characterized by a variety of molecular spectroscopic techniques such as photoluminiscence (PL), time resolved photoluminiscence spectroscopy (TRPL), X-ray absorption near edge spectroscopy (XANES), Raman spectroscopy and structural techniques such as X-ray diffraction (XRD) to identify the oxidation state, physical and chemical form of uranium in this region. Oxidation state analysis by fluorescence spectroscopy revealed majority of the samples in U(VI) oxidation state. The most abundant form of uranium was identified as uranate (UO66-) ion, as a substituent of Ca++ in Ca5(PO4)3F, Flourapatite (FAP). Two uranium species in U(VI) and U(IV) state; (UO2)2+ adsorbed on silica and uranium oxide species (UO2) were also identified. We study the effect of magnetic field in an implosion process achieved by radiation. A time-varying sinusoidal magnetic field is seen to affect the continuous transition of space-like detonation to time-like detonation at the core of implosion region. The oscillating varying magnetic field has a significant effect in increasing the volume of the time-like detonation of the core of implosion and also modify the time of the implosion process. Directional harmonic generation is an important property characterizing the ability of nonlinear optical antennas to diffuse the signal in well-defined region of space. Herein, we show how sub-wavelength facets of an organic molecular mesowire crystal can be utilized to systematically vary the directionality of second harmonic generation (SHG) in the forward scattering geometry. We demonstrate this capability on crystalline diamonoanthraquinone (DAAQ) mesowires with subwavelength facets. We observed that the radial angles of the SHG emission can be tuned over a range of 130 degrees. This angular variation arises due to spatially distributed nonlinear dipoles in the focal volume of the excitation as well as the geometrical cross-section and facet orientation of the mesowire. Numerical simulations of the near-field excitation profile corroborate the role of the mesowire geometry in localizing the electric field. In addition to directional SHG from the mesowire, we experimentally observe optical waveguiding of the nonlinear two-photon excited fluorescence (TPEF). Interestingly, we observed that for a given pump excitation, the TPEF signal is isotropic and delocalized, whereas the SHG emission is directional and localized at the location of excitation. Infrastructure as a Service model of cloud computing is a desirable platform for the execution of cost and deadline constrained workflow applications as the elasticity of cloud computing allows large-scale complex scientific workflow applications to scale dynamically according to their deadline requirements. However, scheduling of these multitask workflow jobs in a distributed computing environment is a computationally hard multi-objective combinatorial optimization problem. The critical challenge is to schedule the workflow tasks whilst meeting user quality of service (QoS) requirements and the application's deadline. The existing research work not only fails to address this challenge but also do not incorporate the basic principles of elasticity and heterogeneity of computing resources in cloud environment. In this paper, we propose a resource provisioning and scheduling algorithm to schedule the workflow applications on IaaS clouds to meet application deadline constraints while optimizing the execution cost. The proposed algorithm is based on the nature-inspired population based Intelligent Water Drop (IWD) optimization algorithm. The experimental results in the simulated environment of CloudSim with four real-world workflow applications demonstrates that IWD algorithm schedules workflow tasks with optimized cost within the specified deadlines. Spin-orbit interactions are subwavelength phenomena which can potentially lead to numerous device related applications in nanophotonics. Here, we report Spin-Hall effect in the forward scattering of Hermite-Gaussian and Gaussian beams from a plasmonic nanowire. Asymmetric scattered radiation distribution was observed for circularly polarized beams. Asymmetry in the scattered radiation distribution changes the sign when the polarization handedness inverts. We found a significant enhancement in the Spin-Hall effect for Hermite-Gaussian beam as compared to Gaussian beam for constant input power. The difference between scattered powers perpendicular to the long axis of the plasmonic nanowire was used to quantify the enhancement. In addition to it, nodal line of HG beam acts as the marker for the Spin-Hall shift. Numerical calculations corroborate experimental observations and suggest that the Spin flow component of Poynting vector associated with the circular polarization is responsible for the Spin-Hall effect and its enhancement., Comment: Optics Letters (accepted), 2018

Continuous-wave pumped optical microresonators have been vastly exploited to generate frequency comb (FC) utilizing the Kerr nonlinearity. Most of the nonlinear materials used to build photonic platforms exhibit nonlinear losses such as multi-photon absorption, free-carrier absorption (FCA), and free-carrier dispersion (FCD) which can strongly affect the nonlinear characteristics of the devices made out of these materials. In this work, we model the Kerr FC based on modified Lugiato-Lefever Equation (LLE) along with the rate equation and develop analytical formulations to make quick estimations of the steady-state, modulation instability (MI) gain, bandwidth and the dynamics of Kerr Frequency-Comb (FC) in presence of nonlinear losses. Our analytical model is valid over a broad wavelength range of interest as it includes the effects of all nonlinear losses. Higher order (>3) characteristic polynomial of intra-cavity power describing the steady-state homogeneous solution of the modified LLE are discussed in detail. We derive the generalized analytical expressions for the threshold of normalized pump detuning to initiate the optical bistability which is a necessary condition for the FC generation. Free-carrier dispersion-led nonlinear cavity detuning is observed through the reverse Kerr-tilt of the resonant-peaks. We further deduce the expressions for the threshold pump intensity and the range of possible cavity detuning for the initiation of the MI when all the nonlinear losses are present. To corroborate our analytical findings, LLE along with the rate equations are solved numerically through split-step Fourier method. Our theoretical study can explain several experimental results which are previously reported and thereby is able to provide a better understanding of the comb dynamics.

Vertical nanowires facilitate an innovative mechanism to channel the optical field in the orthogonal direction and act as a nanoscale light source. Subwavelength, vertically oriented nanowire platforms, both of plasmonic and semiconducting variety can facilitate interesting far field emission profiles and potentially carry orbital angular momentum states. Motivated by these prospects, in this letter, we show how a hybrid plasmonic - organic platform can be harnessed to engineer far field radiation. The system that we have employed is an organic nanowire made of diaminoanthroquinone grown on a plasmonic gold film. We experimentally and numerically studied angular distribution of surface plasmon polariton mediated emission from a single, vertical organic nanowire by utilising evanescent excitation and Fourier plane microscopy. Photoluminescence and elastic scattering from single nanowire was analysed individually in terms of in plane momentum states of the outcoupled photons. We found that the emission is doughnut shaped in both photoluminescence and elastic scattering regimes. We anticipate that the discussed results can be relevant in designing efficient, polariton-mediated nanoscale photon sources which can carry orbital angular momentum states., Comment: Optics Letters (accepted), 2018

A comparative analysis of two Raman line-shape functions has been carried out to validate the true representation of experimentally observed Raman scattering data for semiconducting nanomaterials. A modified form of already existing phonon confinement model incorporates two basic considerations, phonon momentum conservation and shift in zone centre phonon frequency. After incorporation of the above mentioned two factors, a rather symmetric Raman line-shape is generated which is in contrary to the usual asymmetric Raman line-shapes obtained from nanostructured semiconductor. By fitting an experimentally observed Raman scattering data from silicon nanostructures, prepared by metal induced etching, it can be established that the Raman line-shape obtained within the framework of phonon confinement model is a true representative Raman line-shape of sufficiently low dimensions semiconductors., Comment: 8 pages, 3 figures

Analog Network Coding (ANC) is proposed in literature to improve the network throughput by exploiting channel diversity. In practical scenarios, due to the difference in channel characteristics, an extra residual component, termed as ANC noise, appears during the processing of the received signal. This ANC noise component may suppress the ANC gain. None of the existing literature to our knowledge considers the effect of spatial correlation among channels on ANC noise. This paper develops a generic framework to investigate the effect of channel characteristics on ANC noise. We have modelled the channels as spatially correlated to take the (dis)similarity among them into account. Per node power constraint is also taken into consideration. In this work, we have characterized the behaviour of ANC noise and presented the results to analyze the network performance in terms of outage probability. Outcomes of our investigation show that spatial correlation among channels significantly affects the variance of ANC noise as well as the outage performance of the system. The proposed framework can provide better insights while selecting the system parameters in a correlated environment.
