Arkani-Hamed and collaborators have recently shown that scattering amplitudes for colored theories can be expressed as integrals over combinatorial objects simply constructed from surfaces decorated by kinematic data. In this paper we extend the curve integral formalism to theories with colored fermionic matter and present a compact formula for the all-loop, all-genus, all-multiplicity amplitude integrand of a colored Yukawa theory. The curve integral formalism makes certain properties of the amplitudes manifest and repackages non-trivial numerators into a single combinatorial object. In this paper, we explore the modified Greenwood statistic, which, in contrast to the classical Greenwood statistic, is properly defined for random samples from any distribution. The classical Greenwood statistic, extensively examined in the existing literature, has found diverse and interesting applications across various domains. Furthermore, numerous modifications to the classical statistic have been proposed. The modified Greenwood statistic, as proposed and discussed in this paper, shares several key properties with its classical counterpart. Emphasizing its stochastic monotonicity within three broad classes of distributions - namely, generalized Pareto, $\alpha-$stable, and Student's t distributions - we advocate for the utilization of the modified Greenwood statistic in testing scenarios. Our exploration encompasses three distinct directions. In the first direction, we employ the modified Greenwood statistic for Gaussian distribution testing. Our empirical results compellingly illustrate that the proposed approach consistently outperforms alternative goodness-of-fit tests documented in the literature, particularly exhibiting superior efficacy for small sample sizes. The second considered problem involves testing the infinite-variance distribution of a given random sample. The last proposition suggests using the modified Greenwood statistic for testing of a given distribution. The presented simulation study strongly supports the efficiency of the proposed approach in the considered problems. Theoretical results and power simulation studies are further validated by real data analysis.

We introduce a novel approach to compute Compton amplitudes involving a fermion pair inspired by Hopf algebra amplitude constructions. This approach features a recursive relation employing quasi-shuffle sets, directly verifiable by massive factorization properties. We derive results for minimal gauge invariant color-kinematic numerators with physical massive poles using this method. Any measurement in condition monitoring applications is associated with disturbing noise. Till now, most of the diagnostic procedures have assumed the Gaussian distribution for the noise. This paper shares a novel perspective to the problem of local damage detection. The acquired vector of observations is considered as an additive mixture of signal of interest (SOI) and noise with strongly non-Gaussian, heavy-tailed properties, that masks the SOI. The distribution properties of the background noise influence the selection of tools used for the signal analysis, particularly for local damage detection. Thus, it is extremely important to recognize and identify possible non-Gaussian behavior of the noise. The problem considered here is more general than the classical goodness-of-fit testing. The paper highlights the important role of variance, as most of the methods for signal analysis are based on the assumption of the finite-variance distribution of the underlying signal. The finite variance assumption is crucial but implicit to most indicators used in condition monitoring, (such as the root-mean-square value, the power spectral density, the kurtosis, the spectral correlation, etc.), in view that infinite variance implies moments higher than 2 are also infinite. The problem is demonstrated based on three popular types of non-Gaussian distributions observed for real vibration signals. We demonstrate how the properties of noise distribution in the time domain may change by its transformations to the time-frequency domain (spectrogram). Additionally, we propose a procedure to check the presence of the infinite-variance of the background noise. Our investigations are illustrated using simulation studies and real vibration signals from various machines.

We develop a novel amplitude bootstrap technique manifestly free of unphysical poles for classically spinning particles interacting with gravitons utilizing only the double-copy and physical factorization limits. Combined with non-factorization polynomial contact contributions from physical data for Kerr black holes, we can address high-spin-order covariant gravitational Compton amplitudes, identifying a pattern for the amplitude that we believe could extend to all orders in spin. We introduce a novel bootstrap method for classical Compton scattering amplitudes involving two massless gluon/graviton particles and two arbitrary-spin infinite-mass particles in a heavy-mass effective field theory context. Using a suitable ansatz, we deduce new and explicit classical spin results for gluon four and five-point infinite mass processes that exhibit exponentiated three-point factorizations to all orders in spin and feature no spurious poles. We discuss the generalization of our bootstrap to higher multiplicities and summarize future potential applications., Comment: To be published in JHEP

In order to properly test software, test data of a certain quality is needed. However, useful test data is often unavailable: Existing or hand-crafted data might not be diverse enough to enable desired test cases. Furthermore, using production data might be prohibited due to security or privacy concerns or other regulations. At the same time, existing tools for test data generation are often limited. In this paper, we evaluate to what extent constraint logic programming can be used to generate test data, focussing on strings in particular. The development and deployment of matching procedures that incentivize truthful preference reporting is considered one of the major successes of market design research. In this study, we test the degree to which these procedures succeed in eliminating preference misrepresentation. We administered an online experiment to 1,714 medical students immediately after their participation in the medical residency match--a leading field application of strategy-proof market design. When placed in an analogous, incentivized matching task, we find that 23% of participants misrepresent their preferences. We explore the factors that predict preference misrepresentation, including cognitive ability, strategic positioning, overconfidence, expectations, advice, and trust. We discuss the implications of this behavior for the design of allocation mechanisms and the social welfare in markets that use them.

We show that there cannot exist a straightforward generalization of the famous positive partial transpose criterion to three-by-three systems. We call straightforward generalizations that use a finite set of positive maps and arbitrary local rotations of the tested two-partite state. In particular, we show that a family of extreme positive maps discussed in a paper by Ha and Kye, cannot be replaced by a finite set of witnesses in the task of entanglement detection in three-by-three systems. In a more mathematically elegant parlance, our result says that the convex cone of positive maps of the set of three-dimensional matrices into itself is not finitely generated as a mapping cone, Comment: 12 pages

We present solutions to a set of problems that arise in quantum entanglement theory, whose common trait is the use of algebraic methods. The backbone of the thesis consists of two general theorems, pertaining to specific convex sets of quantum maps. They are complemented by solutions of many more specific problems of rather technical character. These problems concerned questions such as the higher rank numerical ranges, the lengths of separable states, the solutions of compression equations, the completely entangled subspaces, and maximally entangled states. The solutions were obtained partly by hand, and partly by using the Groebner basis toolset available in computer algebra systems. The main results, which are those of general nature, consist of a characterization of mapping cones, which is a full analogue of the positive maps criterion for separability, as well as of a full characterization of positive-partial-transpose entangled states of minimum rank. We answer in the affirmative a recently-posed question that asked if there exists an "untypical" convex mapping cone -- i.e., one that does not arise from the transpose map and the cones of k-positive and k-superpositive maps. We explicitly construct such a cone based on atomic positive maps. Our general technique is to consider the smallest convex mapping cone generated by a single map, and we derive several results on such mapping cones. We use this technique to also present several other examples of untypical mapping cones, including a family of cones generated by spin factors. We also provide a full characterization of mapping cones generated by single elements in the qubit case in terms of their typicality., Comment: 18 pages

We discuss the subject of Unextendible Product Bases with the orthogonality condition dropped and we prove that the lowest rank non-separable positive-partial-transpose states, i.e. states of rank 4 in 3 x 3 systems are always locally equivalent to a projection onto the orthogonal complement of a linear subspace spanned by an orthogonal Unextendible Product Basis. The product vectors in the kernels of the states belong to a non-zero measure subset of all general Unextendible Product Bases, nevertheless they can always be locally transformed to the orthogonal form. We study operators acting on a tensor product Hilbert space and investigate their product numerical range, product numerical radius and separable numerical range. Concrete bounds for the product numerical range for Hermitian operators are derived. Product numerical range of a non-Hermitian operator forms a subset of the standard numerical range containing the barycenter of the spectrum. While the latter set is convex, the product range needs not to be convex nor simply connected. In the finite-dimensional case, we present a new approach to the theory of cones with a mapping cone symmetry, first introduced by St{\o}rmer. Our method is based on a definition of an inner product in the space of linear maps between two algebras of operators and the fact that the Jamio{\l}kowski-Choi isomorphism is an isometry. We consider a slightly modified class of cones, although not substantially different from the original mapping cones by St{\o}rmer. Using the new approach, several known results are proved faster and often in more generality than before. For example, the dual of a mapping cone turns out to be a mapping cone as well, without any additional assumptions. The main result of the paper is a characterization of cones with a mapping cone symmetry, saying that a given map is an element of such cone if and only if the composition of the map with the conjugate of an arbitrary element in the dual cone is completely positive. A similar result was known in the case where the map goes from an algebra of operators into itself and the cone is a symmetric mapping cone. Our result is proved without the additional assumptions of symmetry and equality between the domain and the target space. We study positive maps of B(K) into B(H) for finite-dimensional Hilbert spaces K and H. Our main emphasis is on how Choi matrices and estimates of their norms with respect to mapping cones reflect various properties of the maps. Special attention will be given to entanglement properties and k-positive maps, in particular tensor products of 2-positive maps. The latter problem is directly related to the question of n-copy distillability of quantum states, for which we obtain a partial result., Comment: 10 pages

We present a survey on mathematical topics relating to separable states and entanglement witnesses. The convex cone duality between separable states and entanglement witnesses is discussed and later generalized to other families of operators, leading to their characterization via multiplicative properties. The condition for an operator to be an entanglement witness is rephrased as a problem of positivity of a family of real polynomials. By solving the latter in a specific case of a three-parameter family of operators, we obtain explicit description of entanglement witnesses belonging to that family. A related problem of block positivity over real numbers is discussed. We also consider a broad family of block positivity tests and prove that they can never be sufficient, which should be useful in case of future efforts in that direction. Finally, we introduce the concept of length of a separable state and present new results concerning relationships between the length and Schmidt rank. In particular, we prove that separable states of length lower of equal 3 have Schmidt ranks equal to their lengths. Numerical range of a Hermitian operator X is defined as the set of all possible expectation values of this observable among a normalized quantum state. We analyze a modification of this definition in which the expectation value is taken among a certain subset of the set of all quantum states. One considers for instance the set of real states, the set of product states, separable states, or the set of maximally entangled states. We show exemplary applications of these algebraic tools in the theory of quantum information: analysis of k-positive maps and entanglement witnesses, as well as study of the minimal output entropy of a quantum channel. We link the study of positive quantum maps, block positive operators, and entanglement witnesses with problems related to multivariate polynomials. For instance, we show how indecomposable block positive operators relate to biquadratic forms that are not sums of squares. Although the general problem of describing the set of positive maps remains open, in some particular cases we solve the corresponding polynomial inequalities and obtain explicit conditions for positivity., Comment: 17 pages, 1 figure

The structure of cones of positive and k-positive maps acting on a finite-dimensional Hilbert space is investigated. Special emphasis is given to their duality relations to the sets of superpositive and k-superpositive maps. We characterize k-positive and k-superpositive maps with regard to their properties under taking compositions. A number of results obtained for maps are also rephrased for the corresponding cones of block positive, k-block positive, separable and k-separable operators, due to the Jamiolkowski-Choi isomorphism. Generalizations to a situation where no such simple isomorphism is available are also made, employing the idea of mapping cones. As a side result to our discussion, we show that extreme entanglement witnesses, which are optimal, should be of special interest in entanglement studies., Comment: 22 pages, 3 figures

We show analytically that Newtonian iterations, when applied to a polynomial equation, have a positive topological entropy. In a specific example of an attempt to ``find'' the real solutions of the equation $x^2+1=0$, we show that the Newton method is chaotic. We analytically find the invariant density and show how this problem relates to that of a piecewise linear map.
