Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (DMI) plays a crucial role to stabilize the exotic topologically stable skyrmion spin-textures in the noncentrosymmetric crystals. The recent discovery of biskyrmions and skyrmions in the globally centrosymmetric crystals has raised debate about the role of the DMI in causing the spin textures, since DMI vanishes in such crystal structures. Theoretical studies, on the other hand, suggest non-vanishing DMI even if there is local inversion symmetry breaking in an otherwise globally centrosymmetric crystal structure. Motivated by such theoretical predictions, we present here the results of a systematic crystal structure study of two skyrmion-hosting Ni2In-type centrosymmetric hexagonal compounds, MnNiGa and MnPtGa, using the atomic pair distribution function (PDF) technique. Our result provides information about structural correlations in the short-range (SR), medium-range (MR) and long-range (LR) regimes simultaneously. The analysis of the experimental PDFs, obtained from high flux, high energy and high-Q synchrotron x-ray powder diffraction patterns, reveal that the local SR structure of both MnNiGa and MnPtGa compounds corresponds to the noncentrosymmetric trigonal space group P3m1, while the structure in the MR+LR regimes remains hexagonal in the centrosymmetric P63/mmc space group. These findings are also supported by theoretical DFT calculations. Our results in conjunction with the previous theoretical predictions, provide a rationale for the genesis of skyrmions in centrosymmetric materials in terms of non-vanishing DMI due to local inversion symmetry breaking. We believe that our findings would encourage a systematic search of skyrmionic textures and other topological phenomena in a vast family of centrosymmetric materials.

The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) are vital to India's research ecosystem, advancing technology and engineering for industrial and societal benefits. This study reviews the research performance of top IITs-Bombay, Delhi, Madras, Kharagpur, and Kanpur based on Scopus-indexed publications (1952-2024). Research output has grown exponentially, supported by increased funding and collaborations. IIT-Kanpur excels in research impact, while IIT-Bombay and IIT-Madras are highly productive but show slightly lower per-paper impact. Internationally, IITs collaborate robustly with the USA, Germany, and the UK, alongside Asian nations like Japan and South Korea, with IIT-Madras leading inter-IIT partnerships. Research priorities align with SDG 3 (Health), SDG 7 (Clean Energy), and SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities). Despite strengths in fields like energy, fluid dynamics, and materials science, challenges persist, including limited collaboration with newer IITs and gaps in emerging fields. Strengthening specialization and partnerships is crucial for addressing global challenges and advancing sustainable development.

Whispering gallery mode (WGM) microdisk resonators are promising optical devices that confine light efficiently and enable enhanced nonlinear optical effects. This work presents a novel approach to reduce sidewall roughness in SiO\textsubscript{2} microdisk resonators using focused ion beam (FIB) polishing. The microdisks, with varying diameter ranging from 5 to 20 $\mu$m are fabricated using a multi-step fabrication scheme. However, the etching process introduces significant sidewall roughness, which increases with decreasing microdisk radius, degrading the resonators' quality. To address this issue, a FIB system is employed to polish the sidewalls, using optimized process parameters to minimize Ga ion implantation. White light interferometry measurements reveal a significant reduction in surface roughness from 7 nm to 20 nm for a 5 $\mu$m diameter microdisk, leading to a substantial enhancement in the scattering quality factor (Qss) from $3\times 10^2$ to $2\times 10^6$. These findings demonstrate the effectiveness of FIB polishing in improving the quality of microdisk resonators and open up new possibilities for the fabrication of advanced photonic devices.

We propose a novel scaling law for general-purpose decoder-only language models (LMs) trained on multilingual data, tackling the problem of balancing languages during multilingual pretraining. A primary challenge in studying multilingual scaling is the difficulty of analyzing individual language performance due to cross-lingual transfer. To address this, we shift the focus from individual languages to language families. We introduce and validate a hypothesis that the test cross-entropy loss for each language family is determined solely by its own sampling ratio, independent of other languages in the mixture. This insight simplifies the complexity of multilingual scaling and make the analysis scalable to an arbitrary number of languages. Building on this hypothesis, we derive a power-law relationship that links performance with dataset size, model size and sampling ratios. This relationship enables us to predict performance across various combinations of the above three quantities, and derive the optimal sampling ratios at different model scales. To demonstrate the effectiveness and accuracy of our proposed scaling law, we perform a large-scale empirical study, training more than 100 models on 23 languages spanning 5 language families. Our experiments show that the optimal sampling ratios derived from small models (85M parameters) generalize effectively to models that are several orders of magnitude larger (1.2B parameters), offering a resource-efficient approach for multilingual LM training at scale.

The next decade is expected to see a tenfold increase in the number of strong gravitational lenses, driven by new wide-field imaging surveys. To discover these rare objects, efficient automated detection methods need to be developed. In this work, we assess the performance of three domain adaptation techniques -- Adversarial Discriminative Domain Adaptation (ADDA), Wasserstein Distance Guided Representation Learning (WDGRL), and Supervised Domain Adaptation (SDA) -- in enhancing lens-finding algorithms trained on simulated data when applied to observations from the Hyper Suprime-Cam Subaru Strategic Program. We find that WDGRL combined with an ENN-based encoder provides the best performance in an unsupervised setting and that supervised domain adaptation is able to enhance the model's ability to distinguish between lenses and common similar-looking false positives, such as spiral galaxies, which is crucial for future lens surveys., Comment: 10 pages, 5 figures. Coronary heart disease (CHD) is a severe cardiac disease, and hence, its early diagnosis is essential as it improves treatment results and saves money on medical care. The prevailing development of quantum computing and machine learning (ML) technologies may bring practical improvement to the performance of CHD diagnosis. Quantum machine learning (QML) is receiving tremendous interest in various disciplines due to its higher performance and capabilities. A quantum leap in the healthcare industry will increase processing power and optimise multiple models. Techniques for QML have the potential to forecast cardiac disease and help in early detection. To predict the risk of coronary heart disease, a hybrid approach utilizing an ensemble machine learning model based on QML classifiers is presented in this paper. Our approach, with its unique ability to address multidimensional healthcare data, reassures the method's robustness by fusing quantum and classical ML algorithms in a multi-step inferential framework. The marked rise in heart disease and death rates impacts worldwide human health and the global economy. Reducing cardiac morbidity and mortality requires early detection of heart disease. In this research, a hybrid approach utilizes techniques with quantum computing capabilities to tackle complex problems that are not amenable to conventional machine learning algorithms and to minimize computational expenses. The proposed method has been developed in the Raspberry Pi 5 Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) platform and tested on a broad dataset that integrates clinical and imaging data from patients suffering from CHD and healthy controls. Open star clusters are the essential building blocks of the Galactic disk; "strong chemical tagging" - the premise that all star clusters can be reconstructed given chemistry information alone - is a driving force behind many current and upcoming large Galactic spectroscopic surveys. In this work, we characterize abundance patterns for 9 elements (C, N, O, Ne, Mg, Si, S, Ca, and Fe) in open clusters (OCs) in three galaxies (m12i, m12f, and m12m) from the Latte suite of FIRE-2 simulations to investigate if strong chemical tagging is possible in these simulations. We select young massive (>=10^(4.6) Msun) OCs formed in the last ~100 Myr and calculate the intra- and inter-cluster abundance scatter for these clusters. We compare these results with analogous calculations drawn from observations of OCs in the Milky Way. We find the intra-cluster scatter of the observations and simulations to be comparable. While the abundance scatter within each cluster is minimal (<0.020 dex), the mean abundance patterns of different clusters are not unique. We also calculate the chemical difference in intra- and inter-cluster star pairs and find it, in general, to be so small that it is difficult to distinguish between stars drawn from the same OC or from different OCs. Despite tracing three distinct nucleosynthetic families (core-collapse supernovae, white dwarf supernovae, and stellar winds), we conclude that these elemental abundances do not provide enough discriminating information to use strong chemical tagging for reliable OC membership., Comment: submitted to ApJ

Cleavable metallic antiferromagnets may be of use for low-dissipation spintronic devices; however, few are currently known. Here we present orthorhombic MnRhBi3 as one such compound and present a thorough study of its physical properties. Exfoliation is demonstrated experimentally, and the cleavage energy and electronic structure are examined by density functional theory calculations. It is concluded that MnRhBi3 is a van der Waals layered material that cleaves easily between neighboring Bi layers, and that the Bi atoms have lone pairs extending into the van der Waals gaps. A series of four phase transitions are observed below room temperature, and neutron diffraction shows that at least two of the transitions involve the formation of antiferromagnetic order. Anomalous thermal expansion points to a crystallographic phase transition and/or strong magnetoelastic coupling. This work reveals a complex phase evolution in MnRhBi3 and establishes this cleavable antiferromagnetic metal as an interesting material for studying the interplay of structure, magnetism, and transport in the bulk and ultrathin limits as well as the role of lone pair electrons in interface chemistry and proximity effects in van der Waals heterostructures.

Gravitational lensing data is frequently collected at low resolution due to instrumental limitations and observing conditions. Machine learning-based super-resolution techniques offer a method to enhance the resolution of these images, enabling more precise measurements of lensing effects and a better understanding of the matter distribution in the lensing system. This enhancement can significantly improve our knowledge of the distribution of mass within the lensing galaxy and its environment, as well as the properties of the background source being lensed. Traditional super-resolution techniques typically learn a mapping function from lower-resolution to higher-resolution samples. However, these methods are often constrained by their dependence on optimizing a fixed distance function, which can result in the loss of intricate details crucial for astrophysical analysis. In this work, we introduce $\texttt{DiffLense}$, a novel super-resolution pipeline based on a conditional diffusion model specifically designed to enhance the resolution of gravitational lensing images obtained from the Hyper Suprime-Cam Subaru Strategic Program (HSC-SSP). Our approach adopts a generative model, leveraging the detailed structural information present in Hubble Space Telescope (HST) counterparts. The diffusion model, trained to generate HST data, is conditioned on HSC data pre-processed with denoising techniques and thresholding to significantly reduce noise and background interference. This process leads to a more distinct and less overlapping conditional distribution during the model's training phase. We demonstrate that $\texttt{DiffLense}$ outperforms existing state-of-the-art single-image super-resolution techniques, particularly in retaining the fine details necessary for astrophysical analyses., Comment: 12 pages, 6 figures, 2 tables

The spectral content of macroscopic neural activity evolves throughout development, yet how this maturation relates to underlying brain network formation and dynamics remains unknown. Here, we assess the developmental maturation of electroencephalogram spectra via Bayesian model inversion of the spectral graph model, a parsimonious whole-brain model of spatiospectral neural activity derived from linearized neural field models coupled by the structural connectome. Simulation-based inference was used to estimate age-varying spectral graph model parameter posterior distributions from electroencephalogram spectra spanning the developmental period. This model-fitting approach accurately captures observed developmental electroencephalogram spectral maturation via a neurobiologically consistent progression of key neural parameters: long-range coupling, axonal conduction speed, and excitatory:inhibitory balance. These results suggest that the spectral maturation of macroscopic neural activity observed during typical development is supported by age-dependent functional adaptations in localized neural dynamics and their long-range coupling across the macroscopic structural network., Comment: 40 pages, 6 figures, 19 supplementary figures

Few-shot image synthesis entails generating diverse and realistic images of novel categories using only a few example images. While multiple recent efforts in this direction have achieved impressive results, the existing approaches are dependent only upon the few novel samples available at test time in order to generate new images, which restricts the diversity of the generated images. To overcome this limitation, we propose Conditional Distribution Modelling (CDM) -- a framework which effectively utilizes Diffusion models for few-shot image generation. By modelling the distribution of the latent space used to condition a Diffusion process, CDM leverages the learnt statistics of the training data to get a better approximation of the unseen class distribution, thereby removing the bias arising due to limited number of few shot samples. Simultaneously, we devise a novel inversion based optimization strategy that further improves the approximated unseen class distribution, and ensures the fidelity of the generated samples to the unseen class. The experimental results on four benchmark datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed CDM for few-shot generation.

We introduce phi-3-mini, a 3.8 billion parameter language model trained on 3.3 trillion tokens, whose overall performance, as measured by both academic benchmarks and internal testing, rivals that of models such as Mixtral 8x7B and GPT-3.5 (e.g., phi-3-mini achieves 69% on MMLU and 8.38 on MT-bench), despite being small enough to be deployed on a phone. Our training dataset is a scaled-up version of the one used for phi-2, composed of heavily filtered publicly available web data and synthetic data. The model is also further aligned for robustness, safety, and chat format. We also provide parameter-scaling results with a 7B, 14B models trained for 4.8T tokens, called phi-3-small, phi-3-medium, both significantly more capable than phi-3-mini (e.g., respectively 75%, 78% on MMLU, and 8.7, 8.9 on MT-bench). To enhance multilingual, multimodal, and long-context capabilities, we introduce three models in the phi-3.5 series: phi-3.5-mini, phi-3.5-MoE, and phi-3.5-Vision. The phi-3.5-MoE, a 16 x 3.8B MoE model with 6.6 billion active parameters, achieves superior performance in language reasoning, math, and code tasks compared to other open-source models of similar scale, such as Llama 3.1 and the Mixtral series, and on par with Gemini-1.5-Flash and GPT-4o-mini. Meanwhile, phi-3.5-Vision, a 4.2 billion parameter model derived from phi-3.5-mini, excels in reasoning tasks and is adept at handling both single-image and text prompts, as well as multi-image and text prompts., Comment: 24 pages

Efficient sub-Doppler laser cooling and optical trapping of YO molecules offer new opportunities to study collisional dynamics in the quantum regime. Confined in a crossed optical dipole trap, we achieve the highest phase-space density of $2.5 \times 10^{-5}$ for a bulk laser-cooled molecular sample. This sets the stage to study YO--YO collisions in the microkelvin temperature regime, and reveal state-dependent, single-partial-wave two-body collisional loss rates. We determine the partial-wave contributions to loss of specific rotational states (first excited $N=1$ and ground $N=0$) following two strategies. First, we measure the change of the collision rate in a spin mixture of $N=1$ by tuning the kinetic energy with respect to the p- and d-wave centrifugal barriers. Second, we compare loss rates between a spin mixture and a spin-polarized state in $N=0$. Using quantum defect theory with a partially absorbing boundary condition at short range, we show that the dependence on temperature for $N=1$ can be reproduced in the presence of a d-wave or f-wave resonance, and the dependence on a spin mixture for $N=0$ with a p-wave resonance., Comment: 5 Pages, 4 Figures. Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, while the world sought solutions, some scholars exploited the situation for personal gains through deceptive studies and manipulated data. This paper presents the extent of 400 retracted COVID-19 papers listed by the Retraction Watch database until February 2024. The primary purpose of the research was to analyze journal quality and retraction trends. For all stakeholders involved, such as editors, relevant researchers, and policymakers, evaluating the journal's quality is crucial information since it could help them effectively stop such incidents and their negative effects in the future. The present research results imply that one-fourth of publications were retracted within the first month of their publication, followed by an additional 6\% within six months of publication. One-third of the retractions originated from Q1 journals, with another significant portion coming from Q2 (29.8). A notable percentage of the retracted papers (23.2\%) lacked publishing impact, signifying their publication as conference papers or in journals not indexed by Scopus. An examination of the retraction reasons reveals that one-fourth of retractions were due to numerous causes, mostly in Q2 journals, and another quarter were due to data problems, with the majority happening in Q1 publications. Elsevier retracted 31 of the papers, with the majority published in Q1, followed by Springer (11.5), predominantly in Q2. Retracted papers were mainly associated with the USA, China, and India. In the USA, retractions were primarily from Q1 journals followed by no-impact publications; in China, it was Q1 followed by Q2, and in India, it was Q2 followed by no-impact publications. This research work showcases a non-toxic approach to synthesize carbon nanoparticles (CNPs) from various medicinal plants namely Syzygium cumini, Holy basil, Azadirachta indica A, Psidium guajava, Mangifera indica, and Bergera koenigii using microwave approach. The optical, morphological, structural, and functional properties of obtained CNPs from all mentioned sources were investigated using UV-Vis, Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectrophotometry (FTIR), dynamic light scattering (DLS), zeta potential tests and X-ray diffraction (XRD). With great water dispersibility, and photostability all the medicinal sources chosen yielded in bright red fluorescent nanoparticles under exposure to UV light, thereby giving a significant peak around 650 nm recorded in absorption spectrum. Antoxidant assay was performed on all these six different plant-derived nanoparticles with two different concentrations and all have exhibited excellent free radical (DPPH) scavenging activity, proving their role as antioxidants. We present a large-scale empirical study of how choices of configuration parameters affect performance in knowledge distillation (KD). An example of such a KD parameter is the measure of distance between the predictions of the teacher and the student, common choices for which include the mean squared error (MSE) and the KL-divergence. Although scattered efforts have been made to understand the differences between such options, the KD literature still lacks a systematic study on their general effect on student performance. We take an empirical approach to this question in this paper, seeking to find out the extent to which such choices influence student performance across 13 datasets from 4 NLP tasks and 3 student sizes. We quantify the cost of making sub-optimal choices and identify a single configuration that performs well across the board.

Planarian is an intriguing model system wherein the effect of electric and magnetic fields can be studied on various biochemical pathways during cell morphogenesis. Recent experimental observations have demonstrated the non-trivial modulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels by a weak magnetic field during planaria regeneration. However, the underlying biophysical mechanism behind this remains elusive. In this paper, we study the radical pair mechanism to explain the effect of weak magnetic fields on ROS modulation during planaria regeneration to explain the experimental results. We also investigate the effect of chirality-induced spin selectivity (CISS) on ROS levels by including it in the framework of the radical pair mechanism. We conclude that the inclusion of CISS explains the experimental results better and allows the radical pair model to have more parametric space to satisfy the experimental constraints. This study explains the crucial process of ROS modulation by the weak magnetic field with and without CISS, thereby paving the way to unraveling the vast domain of ROS modulation for desired outcomes.

The task of Visual Relationship Recognition (VRR) aims to identify relationships between two interacting objects in an image and is particularly challenging due to the widely-spread and highly imbalanced distribution of triplets. To overcome the resultant performance bias in existing VRR approaches, we introduce DiffAugment -- a method which first augments the tail classes in the linguistic space by making use of WordNet and then utilizes the generative prowess of Diffusion Models to expand the visual space for minority classes. We propose a novel hardness-aware component in diffusion which is based upon the hardness of each triplet and demonstrate the effectiveness of hardness-aware diffusion in generating visual embeddings for the tail classes. We also propose a novel subject and object based seeding strategy for diffusion sampling which improves the discriminative capability of the generated visual embeddings. Extensive experimentation on the GQA-LT dataset shows favorable gains in the subject/object and relation average per-class accuracy using Diffusion augmented samples.

Building LLMs for languages other than English is in great demand due to the unavailability and performance of multilingual LLMs, such as understanding the local context. The problem is critical for low-resource languages due to the need for instruction sets. In a multilingual country like India, there is a need for LLMs supporting Indic languages to provide generative AI and LLM-based technologies and services to its citizens. This paper presents our approach of i) generating a large Odia instruction set, including domain knowledge data suitable for LLM fine-tuning, and ii) building a Llama2-finetuned model tailored for enhanced performance in the Odia domain. The proposed work will help researchers build an instruction set and LLM, particularly for Indic languages. We will release the model and instruction set for the public for research and noncommercial purposes.

We compute the entanglement entropy of Hawking radiation in a bath attached to a deformed eternal AdS black hole. This black hole is dual to the two identical strongly coupled large-$N_c$ thermal field theories, where each theory is backreacted (deformed) by the presence of a uniform static distribution of heavy fundamental quarks. In our observation we find that the entanglement entropy of Hawking radiation increases in a quadratic manner for an early time and linearly for the late time. The large time expression for the entanglement entropy of Hawking radiation is used to find the Page curve and Page time. After the Page time, the entanglement entropy saturates to a constant value due to the appearance of an island. We observe that introducing deformation (backreaction) delays the appearance of island and shifts the Page curve to a later time. Subsequently, the computation of the scrambling time reveals an increase with the backreaction parameter, suggesting a longer duration for information retrieval in the presence of deformation. Moreover, our analysis of the mutual information between the radiation subsystems shows that it vanishes at a critical time which increases with the deformation before the Page time. The heightened sensitivity observed in non-Hermitian systems at exceptional points (EPs) has garnered significant attention. Typical EP sensor implementations rely on precise measurements of spectra and importantly, for real time sensing measurements, the EP condition ceases to hold as the perturbation increases over time, thereby preventing the use of high sensitivity at the EP point. In this work, we present an new approach to EP sensing which goes beyond these two traditional constraints. Firstly, instead of measuring the spectra, our scheme of EP based sensing is based on the observation of decay length of the optical mode in finite size gratings, which is validated via coupled mode theory as well as full wave electrodynamic simulations. Secondly, for larger perturbation strengths, the EP is spectrally shifted instead of being destroyed -- this spectral shift of the EP is calibrated and using this look-up table, we propose continuous real time detection by varying the excitation laser wavelength. As a proof of principle of our technique, we present an application to the sensing of coronavirus particles, which shows unprecedented limit of detection. These findings will contribute to the expanding field of exceptional point based sensing technologies for real time applications beyond spectral measurements.

In-plane Hyperbolic Phonon polaritons (HPhPs) are quasiparticles formed via coupling of photons and optical phonons in in-plane hyperbolic materials and offer unique applications in sensing, thermal emitters and high resolution imaging. However, the large momentum mismatch between photons and these in-plane HPhPs has restricted their technological potential as most experimental demonstration rely on sophisticated and expensive near field detection schemes. In this work, using the example of $\alpha-$MoO$_3$, we demonstrate that by constructing photonic hypercrystals of this material, one can not only excite these in-plane HPhPs in the far field but also tune the far field response via twisting the hypercrystal lattice with respect the lattice of $\alpha-$MoO$_3$. Our findings will pave the way for the development of practical in-plane HPhP devices as well as provide access to new fundamental physics of such materials via conventional and well developed far field measurement techniques.

We present a scalable method to produce high quality emphasis for text-to-speech (TTS) that does not require recordings or annotations. Many TTS models include a phoneme duration model. A simple but effective method to achieve emphasized speech consists in increasing the predicted duration of the emphasised word. We show that this is significantly better than spectrogram modification techniques improving naturalness by $7.3\%$ and correct testers' identification of the emphasized word in a sentence by $40\%$ on a reference female en-US voice. We show that this technique significantly closes the gap to methods that require explicit recordings. PSR J0026-1955 was independently discovered by the Murchison Widefield Array (MWA) recently. The pulsar exhibits subpulse drifting, where the radio emission from a pulsar appears to drift in spin phase within the main pulse profile, and nulling, where the emission ceases briefly. The pulsar showcases a curious case of drift rate evolution as it exhibits rapid changes between the drift modes and a gradual evolution in the drift rate within a mode. Here we report new analysis and results from observations of J0026-1955 made with the upgraded Giant Meterwave Radio Telescope (uGMRT) at 300-500 MHz. We identify two distinct subpulse drifting modes: A and B, with mode A sub-categorised into A0, A1, and A2, depending upon the drift rate evolutionary behaviour. Additionally, the pulsar exhibits short and long nulls, with an estimated overall nulling fraction of ~58%, which is lower than the previously reported value. Our results also provide evidence of subpulse memory across nulls and a consistent behaviour where mode A2 is often followed by a null. We investigate the drift rate modulations of J0026-1955 and put forward two different models to explain the observed drifting behaviour. We suggest that either a change in polar gap screening or a slow relaxation in the spark configuration could possibly drive the evolution in drift rates. J0026-1955 belongs to a rare subset of pulsars which exhibit subpulse drifting, nulling, mode changing, and drift rate evolution. In this article, we present the time-space Chebyshev pseudospectral method (TS-CPsM) to approximate a solution to the generalised Burgers-Fisher (gBF) equation. The Chebyshev-Gauss-Lobatto (CGL) points serve as the foundation for the recommended method, which makes use of collocations in both the time and space directions. Further, using a mapping, the non-homogeneous initial-boundary value problem is transformed into a homogeneous problem, and a system of algebraic equations is obtained. The numerical approach known as Newton-Raphson is implemented in order to get the desired results for the system. The proposed method's stability analysis has been performed. Different researchers' considerations on test problems have been explored to illustrate the robustness and practicality of the approach presented. The approximate solutions we found using the proposed method are highly accurate and significantly better than the existing results.

We have studied the pulse-to-pulse variability in PSR J1820--0427 and its frequency dependence using high-quality, wide-band observations made from the upgraded Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope (uGMRT; 300-750 MHz) and the Murchison Widefield Array ($\sim$170-200 MHz). The low-frequency data reveal a previously unreported feature in the average profile (at 185 MHz) after accounting for the effects of temporal broadening arising from multi-path scattering due to the Interstellar Medium (ISM). We advance a new method for flux density calibration of beamformed data from the uGMRT and use it to measure the single pulse flux densities across the uGMRT band. Combined with previously published measurements, these flux densities are best fit with a power-law spectrum with a low-frequency turnover. We also use calibrated flux densities to explore the relationship between pulse-to-pulse variability and the spectral index of individual pulses. Our analysis reveals a large scatter in the single-pulse spectral indices and a general tendency for brighter pulses to show a steepening of the spectral index. Automatic group emotion recognition plays an important role in understanding complex human-human interaction. This paper introduces, Emolysis, a Python-based, standalone open-source group emotion analysis toolkit for use in different social situations upon getting consent from the users. Given any input video, Emolysis processes synchronized multimodal input and maps it to group level emotion, valence and arousal. Additionally, the toolkit supports major mobile and desktop platforms (Android, iOS, Windows). The Emolysis platform also comes with an intuitive graphical user interface that allows users to select different modalities and target persons for more fine-grained emotion analysis. Emolysis is freely available for academic research and encourages application developers to extend it to application specific environments on top of the existing system. Differential central simple algebras are the main object of study in this survey article. We recall some crucial notions such as differential subfields, differential splitting fields, tensor products etc. Our main focus is on differential splitting fields which connects these objects to the classical differential Galois theory. We mention several known results and raise some questions along the line.

It is shown that a valuation of residue characteristic different from $2$ and $3$ on a field $E$ has at most one extension to the function field of an elliptic curve over $E$, for which the residue field extension is transcendental but not ruled. The cases where such an extension is present are characterised.

Milky Way-mass galaxies in the FIRE-2 simulations demonstrate two main modes of star formation. At high redshifts star formation occurs in a series of short and intense bursts, while at low redshifts star formation proceeds at a steady rate with a transition from one mode to another at times ranging from 3 to 7 Gyr ago for different galaxies. We analyse how the mode of star formation affects iron and alpha-element abundance. We find that the early bursty regime imprints a measurable pattern in stellar elemental abundances in the form of a "sideways chevron" shape on the [Fe/H] - [O/Fe] plane and the scatter in [O/Fe] at a given stellar age is higher than when a galaxy is in the steady regime. That suggests that the evolution of [O/Fe] scatter with age provides an estimate of the end of the bursty phase. We investigate the feasibility of observing of this effect by adding mock observational errors to a simulated stellar survey and find that the transition between the bursty and steady phase should be detectable in the Milky Way, although larger observational uncertainties make the transition shallower. We apply our method to observations of the Milky Way from the Second APOKASC Catalog and estimate that the transition to steady star formation in the Milky Way happened 7-8 Gyrs ago, earlier than transition times measured in the simulations., Comment: 15 pages; Accepted 17 January 2023 in MNRAS

Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) has become the primary transmission media due to its extremely low energy consumption, good network scope, and data transfer speed for the Internet of Things (IoT) and smart wearable devices. With the exponential boom of the Internet of Things (IoT) and the Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) connection protocol, a requirement to discover defensive techniques to protect it with practical security analysis. Unfortunately, IoT-BLE is at risk of spoofing assaults where an attacker can pose as a gadget and provide its users a harmful information. Furthermore, due to the simplified strategy of this protocol, there were many security and privacy vulnerabilities. Justifying this quantitative security analysis with STRIDE Methodology change to create a framework to deal with protection issues for the IoT-BLE sensors. Therefore, providing probable attack scenarios for various exposures in this analysis, and offer mitigating strategies. In light of this authors performed STRIDE threat modeling to understand the attack surface for smart wearable devices supporting BLE. The study evaluates different exploitation scenarios Denial of Service (DoS), Elevation of privilege, Information disclosure, spoofing, Tampering, and repudiation on MI Band, One plus Band, Boat Storm smartwatch, and Fire Bolt Invincible.

Direct laser cooling of molecules has reached a phase space density exceeding 10$^{-6}$ in optical traps, but with rather small molecular numbers. To progress towards quantum degeneracy, a mechanism is needed that combines sub-Doppler cooling and magneto-optical trapping (MOT) to facilitate near unity transfer of ultracold molecules from the MOT to a conservative optical trap. Using the unique energy level structure of YO molecules, we demonstrate the first blue-detuned MOT for molecules that is optimized for both gray-molasses sub-Doppler cooling and relatively strong trapping forces. This first sub-Doppler molecular MOT provides an increase of phase-space density by two orders of magnitude over any previously reported molecular MOT., Comment: 6 pages, 6 figures

Strong coupling of excitons to optical cavity modes is of immense importance to understanding the fundamental physics of quantum electrodynamics at the nanoscale as well as for practical applications in quantum information technologies. There have been several attempts at achieving strong coupling between excitons in two dimensional semiconductors such as transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) and photonic quasi-bound states in the continuum (BICs). We identify two gaps in the platforms for achieving strong coupling between TMDC excitons and photonic quasi-BICs: firstly, in the studies so far, different cavity architectures have been employed for coupling to different TMDCs. This would mean that typically, the fabrication process flow for the cavities will need to be modified as one moves from one TMDC to the other, which can limit the technological progress in the field. Secondly, there has been no discussion of the impact of fabrication imperfections in the studies on strong coupling of these subsystems so far. In this work, we address these two questions by optimizing a cavity with the same architecture which can couple to the four typical TMDCs (MoS$_2$, WS$_2$, MoSe$_2$, WSe$_2$) and perform a detailed investigation on the fabrication tolerance of the associated photonic quasi-BICs and their impact on strong coupling.

The entanglement wedge cross sections (EWCSs) are postulated as dual gravity probes to certain measures for the entanglement of multiparty systems. We test various proposed inequalities for EWCSs. As it turns out, contrary to expectations, the EWCS is not clearly monogamous nor polygamous for tripartite systems but the results depend on the details and dimensionality of the geometry of the gravity solutions. We propose weaker monogamy relations for dual entanglement measures, which lead to a new lower bound on EWCS. We study differential splitting fields of quaternion algebras with derivations. A quaternion algebra over a field $k$ is always split by a quadratic extension of $k$. However, a differential quaternion algebra need not be split over any algebraic extension of $k$. We use solutions of certain Riccati equations to provide bounds on the transcendence degree of splitting fields of a differential quaternion algebra.

We study various holographic pure and mixed state entanglement measures in the confined/deconfined phases of a bottom-up AdS/QCD model in the presence of a background magnetic field. We analyse the entanglement entropy, entanglement wedge cross-section, mutual information, and entanglement negativity and investigate how a background magnetic field leaves its imprints on the entanglement structure of these measures. Due to the anisotropy introduced by the magnetic field, we find that the behaviour of these measures depends nontrivially on the relative orientation of the strip with respect to the field. In the confining phase, the entanglement entropy and negativity undergo a phase transition at the same critical strip length, the magnitude of which increases/decreases for parallel/perpendicular orientation of the magnetic field. The entanglement wedge cross-section similarly displays discontinuous behaviour each time a phase transition between different entangling surfaces occurs, while further exhibiting anisotropic features with a magnetic field. We further find that the magnetic field also introduces substantial changes in the entanglement measures of the deconfined phase, however, these changes remain qualitatively similar for all orientations of the magnetic field. We further study the inequality involving entanglement wedge and mutual information and find that the former always exceeds half of the latter everywhere in the parameter space of the confined/deconfined phases., Comment: 42 Pages, many figures, references added, published version

This paper presents Unikernel Linux (UKL), a path toward integrating unikernel optimization techniques in Linux, a general purpose operating system. UKL adds a configuration option to Linux allowing for a single, optimized process to link with the kernel directly, and run at supervisor privilege. This UKL process does not require application source code modification, only a re-link with our, slightly modified, Linux kernel and glibc. Unmodified applications show modest performance gains out of the box, and developers can further optimize applications for more significant gains (e.g. 26% throughput improvement for Redis). UKL retains support for co-running multiple user level processes capable of communicating with the UKL process using standard IPC. UKL preserves Linux's battle-tested codebase, community, and ecosystem of tools, applications, and hardware support. UKL runs both on bare-metal and virtual servers and supports multi-core execution. Magnetic skyrmions are vortex-like spin textures, which can be manipulated by external stress or pressure via magnetoelastic effects. Here, we present the observation of isostructural phase transition in a biskyrmion host hexagonal MnNiGa at a pressure around 4 GPa using pressure-dependent synchrotron x-ray powder diffraction (XRD) data analysis. Our XRD data reveals anisotropic compression behavior with pressure with different compression rates of the a-axis in the basal plane and the c-axis in the prismatic plane. However, the hexagonal symmetry remains unchanged for pressure up to 14 GPa. Fitting of unit cell volume with pressure using a second-order Birch-Murnagan equation of state reveals that the data to fall into two distinct curves for those above and below 4 GPa. The present study contributes to the understanding of crystal structure with the application of hydrostatic pressure in the biskyrmion host MnNiGa, wherein the skyrmion textures can be manipulated by pressure due to their magnetoelastic character.

In this work, high throughput DFT calculations are performed on the alkali metal-based half Heusler alloys; LiY$_p$Y$^\prime_{1-p}$S (Y, Y$^\prime$ = V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni and $\mathit{p}$ = 0, 0.25, 0.5, 0.75, 1). Starting with 243 structural replica, systematic filters are designed to select the energetically and vibrationally favorable compositions by considering the contributions stemming from the magnetic alignments of the ions. Thereby, 26 dynamically stable magnetic compositions are identified, of which 10 are found to be ferromagnetic (FM), 4 antiferromagnetic (AFM) and 12 ferrimagnetic (FiM). 4 FM and 8 FiM ones are found to show 100 $\%$ spin polarization. Further, tetragonal distortion is found to be present in 4 FM, 3 FiM and 4 AFM compositions, which indicates the possibility of easy-axis magnetocrystalline anisotropy. The ferromagnetic LiFe$_{0.5}$Mn$_{0.5}$S and antiferromagnetic LiFeS are found to have the most prominent easy-axis magnetocrystalline anisotropy.

For $m\geq 2$, we study derivations on symbol algebras of degree $m$ over fields with characteristic not dividing $m$. A differential central simple algebra over a field $k$ is split by a finitely generated extension of $k$. For certain derivations on symbol algebras, we provide explicit construction of differential splitting fields and give bounds on their algebraic and transcendence degrees. We further analyze maximal subfields that split certain differential symbol algebras.

We present an investigation of the performance of the relativistic multi-reference Fock-space coupled cluster (FSCC) method for predicting molecular hyperfine structure (HFS) constants, including a thorough computational study to estimate the associated uncertainties. In particular, we considered the $^{19}$F HFS constant in the ground and excited states of BaF. Due to a larger basis set dependence, the uncertainties on the excited state results (16-85%) were found to be significantly larger than those on the ground state constants ($\sim$2%). The ab initio values were compared to the recent experimental results, and good overall agreement within the theoretical uncertainties was found. This work demonstrates the predictive power of the FSCC method and the reliability of the established uncertainty estimates, which can be crucial in cases where the calculated property cannot be directly compared to experiment.

Sub-pulse drifting in pulsar radio emission is considered to be one of the most promising phenomenon for uncovering the underlying physical processes. Here we present a detailed study of such a phenomenon in observations of PSR J1822$-$2256, made using the upgraded Giant Meterwave Radio Telescope (uGMRT). Observations were made simultaneously using the Band 3 (300-500 MHz) and Band 4 (550-750 MHz) receivers of the uGMRT. The pulsar is known to exhibit subpulse drifting, mode changing, and nulling. Our observations reveal four distinct sub-pulse drifting modes of emission (A, B, C, and D) for this pulsar, with the drift periodicities of 17.9 $P_1$, 5.8 $P_1$, 8 $P_1$, 14.1 $P_1$, respectively (where $P_1$ is the pulsar rotation period), two of which exhibit some new features that were not reported in the previous studies. We also investigate the possible spark configuration, characterised by the number of sparks ($n$) in the carousel patterns of these four drift modes, and our analysis suggests two representative solutions for the number of sparks for a carousel rotation period, $P_4$, which lies in the range of $13$ to $16$. The large frequency coverage of our data (300-750 MHz) is also leveraged to explore the frequency dependence of single-pulse characteristics of the pulsar emission, particularly the frequency-dependent subpulse behaviour and the emission heights for the observed drift modes. Our analysis suggests a clear modal dependence of inferred emission heights. Code-switching (CS), a ubiquitous phenomenon due to the ease of communication it offers in multilingual communities still remains an understudied problem in language processing. The primary reasons behind this are: (1) minimal efforts in leveraging large pretrained multilingual models, and (2) the lack of annotated data. The distinguishing case of low performance of multilingual models in CS is the intra-sentence mixing of languages leading to switch points. We first benchmark two sequence labeling tasks -- POS and NER on 4 different language pairs with a suite of pretrained models to identify the problems and select the best performing model, char-BERT, among them (addressing (1)). We then propose a self training method to repurpose the existing pretrained models using a switch-point bias by leveraging unannotated data (addressing (2)). We finally demonstrate that our approach performs well on both tasks by reducing the gap between the switch point performance while retaining the overall performance on two distinct language pairs in both the tasks. Ternary intermetallic half-Heusler (HH) compounds (XYZ) with 18 valence electron count viz. ZrCoSb, ZrNiSn, and ZrPdSn, have revealed promising thermoelectric properties. Exemplarily, it has been experimentally observed that a slight change in the content of Y-site atoms (by ~3-12.5% i.e., m =0.03, 0.125 in ZrY(1+m)Z) leads to drastic lowering in the lattice thermal conductivity (kL) by more than 65-80% in many of these compounds. The present work aims at exploring the possibility of maximizing the electronic transport scenario after achieving the low kL limit in these compounds. By taking into account the full anharmonicity of the lattice dynamics, Boltzmann transport calculations are performed under the framework of density functional theory. Our results show that these excess atoms present in the vacant lattice site induce scattering by acting either as a rattling mode or by hybridizing with the acoustic modes of the host depending upon their mass and bonding chemistry, respectively. Furthermore, the introduction of these scattering centers may lead to the formation of a defect mid-gap state in the electronic band structure (detrimental for electronic transport) or lead to light doping of the host compound. Significant attention in the financial industry has paved the way for blockchain technology to spread across other industries, resulting in a plethora of literature on the subject. This study approaches the subject through bibliometrics and network analysis of 6790 records extracted from the Web of Science from 2014-2020 based on blockchain. This study asserts (i) the impact of open access publication on the growth and visibility of literature, (ii) the collaboration patterns and impact of team size on collaboration, (iii) the ranking of countries based on their national and international collaboration, and (iv) the major themes in the literature through thematic analysis. Based on the significant momentum gained by the blockchain, the trend of open access publications has increased 1.5 times than no open access in 2020. This analysis articulates the numerous potentials of blockchain literature and its adoption by various countries and their authors. China and the USA are the top leaders in the field and applied blockchain more with smart contracts, supply chain, and internet of things. Also, results show that blockchain has attracted the attention of less than 1% of authors who have contributed to multiple works on the blockchain and authors also preferred to work in teams smaller in size.

Bibliometrics is useful to analyze the research impact for measuring the research quality. Different bibliographic databases like Scopus, Web of Science, Google Scholar etc. are accessed for evaluating the trend of publications and citations from time to time. Some of these databases are free and some are subscription based. Its always debatable that which bibliographic database is better and in what terms. To provide an optimal solution to availability of multiple bibliographic databases, we have implemented a single authentic database named as ``conflate'' which can be used for fetching publication and citation trend of an author. To further strengthen the generated database and to provide the transparent system to the stakeholders, a consensus mechanism ``proof of reference (PoR)'' is proposed. We aim to solve the highly challenging task of generating continuous sign language videos solely from speech segments for the first time. Recent efforts in this space have focused on generating such videos from human-annotated text transcripts without considering other modalities. However, replacing speech with sign language proves to be a practical solution while communicating with people suffering from hearing loss. Therefore, we eliminate the need of using text as input and design techniques that work for more natural, continuous, freely uttered speech covering an extensive vocabulary. Since the current datasets are inadequate for generating sign language directly from speech, we collect and release the first Indian sign language dataset comprising speech-level annotations, text transcripts, and the corresponding sign-language videos. Next, we propose a multi-tasking transformer network trained to generate signer's poses from speech segments. With speech-to-text as an auxiliary task and an additional cross-modal discriminator, our model learns to generate continuous sign pose sequences in an end-to-end manner. Extensive experiments and comparisons with other baselines demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach. We also conduct additional ablation studies to analyze the effect of different modules of our network. Numerous indexing databases keep track of the number of publications, citations, etc. in order to maintain the progress of science and individual. However, the choice of journals and articles varies among these indexing databases, hence the number of citations and h-index varies. There is no common platform exists that can provide a single count for the number of publications, citations, h-index, etc. To overcome this limitation, we have proposed a weighted unified informetrics, named "conflate". The proposed system takes into account the input from multiple indexing databases and generates a single output. Here, we have used the data from Scopus and WoS to generate a conflate dataset. Further, a comparative analysis of conflate has been performed with Scopus and WoS at three levels: author, organization, and journal. In academia, the research performance of a faculty is either evaluated by the number of publications or the number of citations. Most of the time h-index is widely used during the hiring process or the faculty performance evaluation. The calculation of the h-index is shown in various databases; however, there is no systematic evidence about the differences between them. Here we analyze the publication records of 385 authors from Monash University (Australia) to investigate (i) the impact of different databases like Scopus and WoS on the ranking of authors within a discipline, and (ii) to complement the $h$-index, named $h_c$, by adding the weight of the highest cited paper to the $h$-index of the authors. The results show the positive impact of $h_c$ on the lower-ranked authors in every discipline. A measurement of the magnitude of the electric dipole moment of the electron (eEDM) larger than that predicted by the Standard Model (SM) of particle physics is expected to have a huge impact on the search for physics beyond the SM. Polar diatomic molecules containing heavy elements experience enhanced sensitivity to parity ($P$) and time-reversal ($T$)-violating phenomena, such as the eEDM and the scalar-pseudoscalar (S-PS) interaction between the nucleons and the electrons, and are thus promising candidates for measurements. The NL-\textit{e}EDM collaboration is preparing an experiment to measure the eEDM and S-PS interaction in a slow beam of cold BaF molecules [Eur. Phys. J. D, 72, 197 (2018)]. Accurate knowledge of the electronic structure parameters, $W_d$ and $W_s$, connecting the eEDM and the S-PS interaction to the measurable energy shifts is crucial for the interpretation of these measurements. In this work we use the finite field relativistic coupled cluster approach to calculate the $W_d$ and $W_s$ parameters in the ground state of the BaF molecule. Special attention was paid to providing a reliable theoretical uncertainty estimate based on investigations of the basis set, electron correlation, relativistic effects and geometry. Our recommended values of the two parameters, including conservative uncertainty estimates, are 3.13 $\pm$ $0.12 \times 10^{24}\frac{\text{Hz}}{e\cdot \text{cm}}$ for $W_d$ and 8.29 $\pm$ 0.12 kHz for $W_s$.
