Transformer-based Super-Resolution (SR) models have recently advanced image reconstruction quality, yet challenges remain due to computational complexity and an over-reliance on large patch sizes, which constrain fine-grained detail enhancement. In this work, we propose TaylorIR to address these limitations by utilizing a patch size of 1x1, enabling pixel-level processing in any transformer-based SR model. To address the significant computational demands under the traditional self-attention mechanism, we employ the TaylorShift attention mechanism, a memory-efficient alternative based on Taylor series expansion, achieving full token-to-token interactions with linear complexity. Experimental results demonstrate that our approach achieves new state-of-the-art SR performance while reducing memory consumption by up to 60% compared to traditional self-attention-based transformers.

We introduce a LiDAR inertial odometry (LIO) framework, called LiPO, that enables direct comparisons of different iterative closest point (ICP) point cloud registration methods. The two common ICP methods we compare are point-to-point (P2P) and point-to-feature (P2F). In our experience, within the context of LIO, P2F-ICP results in less drift and improved mapping accuracy when robots move aggressively through challenging environments when compared to P2P-ICP. However, P2F-ICP methods require more hand-tuned hyper-parameters that make P2F-ICP less general across all environments and motions. In real-world field robotics applications where robots are used across different environments, more general P2P-ICP methods may be preferred despite increased drift. In this paper, we seek to better quantify the trade-off between P2P-ICP and P2F-ICP to help inform when each method should be used. To explore this trade-off, we use LiPO to directly compare ICP methods and test on relevant benchmark datasets as well as on our custom unpiloted ground vehicle (UGV). We find that overall, P2F-ICP has reduced drift and improved mapping accuracy, but, P2P-ICP is more consistent across all environments and motions with minimal drift increase., Comment: Submitted to ICRA 2025

Magnetic fields are the primary driver of the plasma thermodynamics in the upper solar atmosphere, especially in the corona. However, magnetic field measurements in the solar corona are sporadic, thereby limiting us from the complete understanding of physical processes occurring in the coronal plasma. In this paper, we explore the diagnostic potential of a coronal emission line in the extreme-ultraviolet (EUV), i.e., Ne VIII 770 \AA to probe the coronal magnetic fields. We utilize 3D 'Magneto-hydrodynamic Algorithm outside a Sphere' (MAS) models as input to the FORWARD code to model polarization in Ne VIII line produced due to resonance scattering, and interpret its modification due to collisions and the magnetic fields through the Hanle effect. The polarization maps are synthesized both on the disk as well as off-the-limb. The variation of this polarization signal through the different phases of solar cycle 24 and the beginning phase of solar cycle 25 is studied in order to understand the magnetic diagnostic properties of this line owing to different physical conditions in the solar atmosphere. The detectability of the linear polarization signatures of the Hanle effect significantly improves with increasing solar activity, consistently with the increase in the magnetic field strength and the intensity of the mean solar brightness at these wavelengths. We present spectropolarimetric observations of an active region recorded simultaneously in the H$\alpha$ Ca II 8662 {\AA} lines. The sunspot exhibits multiple structures, including a lightbridge and a region where Ca II 8662 {\AA} line core is in emission. Correspondingly, the H$\alpha$ line core image displays brightening in the emission region, with the spectral profiles showing elevated line cores. The stratification of the line-of-sight magnetic field is inferred through non-LTE multiline inversions of the Ca II 8662 {\AA} line and the weak field approximation over the H$\alpha$ line. The field strength inferred from the H$\alpha$ line core is consistently smaller than that inferred from inversions at $\log \tau_{500}$ = $-$4.5. However, the study finds no correlation between the WFA over the core of the H$\alpha$ line and that inferred from inversions at $\log \tau_{500}$ = $-$4.5. In regions exhibiting emission features, the morphology of the magnetic field at $\log \tau_{500}$ = $-$4.5 resembles that at $\log \tau_{500}$ = $-$1, with slightly higher or comparable field strengths. The magnetic field morphology inferred from the core of the H$\alpha$ line is also similar to that inferred from the full spectral range of the H$\alpha$ line in the emission region. The field strength inferred in the lightbridge at $\log \tau_{500}$ = $-$1 is smaller than the surrounding umbral regions and comparable at $\log \tau_{500}$ = $-$4.5. Software reliability growth models (SRGM) enable failure data collected during testing. Specifically, nonhomogeneous Poisson process (NHPP) SRGM are the most commonly employed models. While software reliability growth models are important, efficient modeling of complex software systems increases the complexity of models. Increased model complexity presents a challenge in identifying robust and computationally efficient algorithms to identify model parameters and reduces the generalizability of the models. Existing studies on traditional software reliability growth models suggest that NHPP models characterize defect data as a smooth continuous curve and fail to capture changes in the defect discovery process. Therefore, the model fits well under ideal conditions, but it is not adaptable and will only fit appropriately shaped data. Neural networks and other machine learning methods have been applied to greater effect [5], however limited due to lack of large samples of defect data especially at earlier stages of testing.

Roughly, a conformal tiling of a Riemann surface is a tiling where each tile is a suitable conformal image of a Euclidean regular polygon. In 1997, Bowers and Stephenson constructed an edge-to-edge conformal tiling of the complex plane using conformally regular pentagons. In contrast, we show that for all $n \geq 7$, there is no edge-to-edge conformal tiling of the complex plane using conformally regular $n$-gons. More generally, we discuss a relationship between the combinatorial curvature at each vertex of the conformal tiling and the universal cover (sphere, plane, or disc) of the underlying Riemann surface. This result follows from the work of Stone (1976) and Oh (2005) through a rich interplay between Riemannian geometry and combinatorial geometry. ADITYA-L1 is India's first dedicated mission to observe the sun and its atmosphere from a halo orbit around L1 point. Visible emission line coronagraph (VELC) is the prime payload on board at Aditya-L1 to observe the sun's corona. VELC is designed as an internally occulted reflective coronagraph to meet the observational requirements of wide wavelength band and close to the solar limb (1.05 Ro). Images of the solar corona in continuum and spectra in three emission lines 5303{\AA} [Fe xiv], 7892{\AA} [Fe xi] and 10747 [Fe xiii] obtained with high cadence to be analyzed using software algorithms automatically. A reasonable part of observations will be made in synoptic mode, those, need to be analyzed and results made available for public use. The procedure involves the calibration of instrument and detectors, converting the images into fits format, correcting the images and spectra for the instrumental effects, align the images etc. Then, develop image processing algorithms to detect the occurrence of energetic events using continuum images. Also derive physical parameters, such as temperature and velocity structure of solar corona using emission line observations. Here, we describe the calibration of detectors and the development of software algorithms to detect the occurrence of CMEs and analyze the spectroscopic data.

We investigated the diagnostic potential of the Stokes $V$ profile of the H$\alpha$ line to probe the chromospheric line-of-sight (LOS) magnetic field ($B_{\mathrm{LOS}}$) by comparing the $B_{\mathrm{LOS}}$ inferred from the weak field approximation (WFA) with that of inferred from the multi-line inversions of the Ca II 8542 {\AA}, Si I 8536 {\AA} and Fe I 8538 {\AA} lines using the STiC inversion code. Simultaneous spectropolarimetric observations of a pore in the Ca II 8542 {\AA} and H$\alpha$ spectral lines obtained from the SPINOR at the Dunn Solar Telescope on the 4th of December, 2008 are used in this study. The WFA was applied on the Stokes $I$ and $V$ profiles of H$\alpha$ line over three wavelength ranges viz.: around line core ($\Delta\lambda=\pm0.35$ {\AA}), line wings ($\Delta\lambda=[-1.5, -0.6]$ and $[+0.6, +1.5]$ {\AA}) and full spectral range of the line ($\Delta\lambda=\pm1.5$ {\AA}) to derive the $B_{\mathrm{LOS}}$. We found the maximum $B_{\mathrm{LOS}}$ strengths of $\sim+800$ and $\sim+600$ G at $\log\tau_{\mathrm{500}}$ = $-$1 and $-$4.5, respectively in the pore. The morphological map of the $B_{\mathrm{LOS}}$ inferred from the H$\alpha$ line core is similar to the $B_{\mathrm{LOS}}$ map at $\log\tau_{\mathrm{500}}$ = $-$4.5 inferred from multi-line inversions. The $B_{\mathrm{LOS}}$ map inferred from the H$\alpha$ line wings and full spectral range have a similar morphological structure to the $B_{\mathrm{LOS}}$ map inferred at $\log\tau_{\mathrm{500}}$ = $-$1. The $B_{\mathrm{LOS}}$ estimated from H$\alpha$ using WFA is weaker by a factor of $\approx 0.53$ than that of inferred from the multi-line inversions., Comment: Accepted to be published in the ApJ on 25th February, 2023

BaTiO3 is typically a strong n-type material with tuneable optoelectronic properties via doping and controlling the synthesis conditions. It has a wide band gap that can only harness the ultraviolet region of the solar spectrum. Despite significant progress, achieving visible-light absorbing BTO with tuneable carrier concentration has been challenging, a crucial requirement for many applications. In this work, a p-type BTO with visible-light absorption is realized via iridium doping. Detailed analysis using advanced spectroscopy tools and computational electronic structure analysis is used to rationalize the n- to p-type transition after Ir doping. Results offered mechanistic insight into the interplay between the dopant site occupancy, the dopant position within the band gap, and the defect chemistry affecting the carrier concentration. A decrease in the Ti3+ donor levels concentration and the mutually correlated oxygen vacancies upon Ir doping is attributed to the p-type behavior. Due to the formation of Ir3+ or Ir4+ in-gap energy levels within the forbidden region, the optical transition can be elicited from or to such levels resulting in visible-light absorption. This newly developed Ir-doped BTO can be a promising p-type perovskite-oxide with imminent applications in solar fuel generation, spintronics and optoelectronics., Comment: 21 pages, 8 figures

The Solar Mean Magnetic Field (SMMF) is the mean value of the line of sight (LOS) component of the solar vector magnetic field averaged over the visible hemisphere of the Sun. So far, the studies on SMMF have mostly been confined to the magnetic field measurements at the photosphere. In this study, we calculate and analyse the SMMF using magnetic field measurements at the chromosphere, in conjunction with that of photospheric measurements. For this purpose, we have used full disk LOS magnetograms derived from spectropolarimetric observations carried out in Fe I 630.15 nm and Ca II 854.2 nm by the Synoptic Optical Long term Investigations of the Sun (SOLIS)/Vector Spectromagnetograph (VSM) instrument during 2010 to 2017. It is found from this study that the SMMF at the chromosphere is weaker by a factor of 0.60 compared to the SMMF at the upper photosphere. The correlation analysis between them gives a Pearson correlation coefficient of 0.80. The similarity and reduced intensity of the chromospheric SMMF with respect to the photospheric SMMF corroborate the idea that it is the source of the Interplanetary Magnetic Field (IMF)., Comment: 11 pages, 6 figure, 3 tables

Summer monsoon rainfall over India depends on synoptic-scale phenomena like lows and depressions. India's summer monsoon season 2020 saw above-average rainfall. North Indian Ocean had 12 LPAs in summer 2020 in JJAS season. This monsoon season has the highest all-India rainfall since 1976 in August 2020. 50% of seasonal LPAs emerged in August 2020, but none intensified into a monsoon depression (MDs). This study explores the potential factors behind LPAs not intensifying/concentrating as MDs. Warming over the Northern Parts of the Arabian Sea (NPAS) boosted convection in August 2020, resulting in substantial low-level convergence. Strong northwesterly winds from central Asia also combined with the cross-equatorial monsoon flow. This powerful flow across the Arabian Sea split into two branches: one extending to NW India following the monsoon trough, and another diverging into an anticyclone over the south Bay of Bengal (SBOB), reducing horizontal shear there (Barotropic Instability). Due to weak barotropic instability over the head BOB, LPAs cannot become MDs. In August 2020, the 200 hPa barotropic Rossby wave remains stationary over South Central Asia and retrogresses northeast to southwest. It affected all-India rainfall by increasing rainfall in the NW and Western Ghats (WG). Despite unfavourable dynamical conditions, the barotropic Rossby wave and low-level anticyclone over the WNP caused above-normal rainfall over India in August 2020. We also confirmed these mechanisms in Community Earth System Model Large Ensemble (CESM-LE) model simulations. Analysis showed that model has limited skill to mimic monsoon rainfall and associated circulation and failed to reflect mid-latitude circulation impact on ISM rainfall.

Short-lived (100s or less), sub-arcsec to a couple of arcsec size features of enhanced brightenings in the narrowband images at the $\mathrm{H_{2V}}$ and $\mathrm{K_{2V}}$ positions of the Ca II H and K lines in the quiet Sun are known as bright grains. With simultaneous observations of a quiet Sun internetwork region in the Fe I 6173 {\AA}, Ca II 8542 {AA}, and Ca II K lines acquired by the CRisp Imaging Spectro-Polarimeter and the CHROMospheric Imaging Spectrometer instruments on the Swedish 1-m Solar Telescope, we performed multi-line non-local thermodynamic equilibrium inversions using the STockholm inversion Code to infer the time-varying stratified atmosphere's physical properties such as the temperature, line-of-sight (LOS) velocity, and microturbulence. The Ca II K profiles of bright grains show enhancement in the $\mathrm{K_{2V}}$ peak intensities with absence of the $\mathrm{K_{2R}}$ features. At the time of maximum enhancement in the $\mathrm{K_{2V}}$ peak intensities, we found average enhancements in temperature at lower chromospheric layers (at $\log\tau_{500}$ $\simeq$ $-$4.2) of about 1.1 kK with maximum enhancement of about 4.5 kK. These temperature enhancements are colocated with upflows, as strong as $-$6 $\mathrm{km\;s^{-1}}$, in the direction of the LOS. The LOS velocities at upper chromospheric layers at $\log\tau_{500}$ < $-$4.2 show consistent downflows greater than $+$8 $\mathrm{km\;s^{-1}}$. The retrieved value of microturbulence in the atmosphere of bright grains is negligible at chromospheric layers. The study provides observational evidence to support the interpretation that the bright grains observed in narrowband images at the $\mathrm{H_{2V}}$ and $\mathrm{K_{2V}}$ positions of the Ca II H and K lines are manifestations of upward propagating acoustic shocks against a background of downflowing atmospheres., Comment: 23 pages, 12 figures, accepted to be published in Astronomy and Astrophysics on 3rd October, 2022

The diagnostic capabilities of spectral lines in far ultraviolet (FUV) and extreme ultraviolet (EUV) wavelength range are explored in terms of their Hanle and Zeeman sensitivity to probe vector magnetic field in the solar corona. The temperature range covered is log$_{10}(T)=5.5-6.3$. The circular polarization signal due to longitudinal Zeeman effect is estimated for spectral lines in the wavelength range of 500 to 1600 \r{A}. The Stokes $V/I$ signal for a FUV line is found to be in the order of 10$^{-4}$ for a longitudinal field strength of 10 Gauss, which further reduces to 10$^{-5}$ for wavelengths below 1200 \r{A}. Due to such low signals, the present study aims to find combination of spectral lines having different Hanle sensitivity but with identical peak formation temperature to probe coronal magnetic field vector. The combination of Hanle sensitive lines is better suited because the Hanle signals are stronger by at least an order of magnitude compared to Zeeman signals. The linear polarization signals due to Hanle effect from at least two spectral lines are required to derive information on the full vector. It is found from this study that there is always a pair of Hanle sensitive lines for a given temperature range suitable for probing coronal vector magnetic field and they are located in close proximity with each other in terms of their wavelength., Comment: 22 pages, 2 figures, 1 table. Staged rollout is a strategy of incrementally releasing software updates to portions of the user population in order to accelerate defect discovery without incurring catastrophic outcomes such as system wide outages. Some past studies have examined how to quantify and automate staged rollout, but stop short of simultaneously considering multiple product or process metrics explicitly. This paper demonstrates the potential to automate staged rollout with multi-objective reinforcement learning in order to dynamically balance stakeholder needs such as time to deliver new features and downtime incurred by failures due to latent defects.

This paper discusses a method for accurately estimating the fault location in multi-terminal High Voltage direct current (HVdc) transmission network using single ended current and voltage measurements. The post-fault voltage and current signatures are a function of multiple factors and thus accurately locating faults on a multi-terminal network is challenging. We discuss a novel data-driven Bayes Regression based method for accurately predicting fault locations. The sensitivity of the proposed algorithm to measurement noise, fault location, resistance and current limiting inductance are performed on a radial three-terminal MTdc network. Rapid development of renewable energy sources, particularly solar photovoltaics (PV), is critical to mitigate climate change. As a result, India has set ambitious goals to install 500 gigawatts of solar energy capacity by 2030. Given the large footprint projected to meet renewables energy targets, the potential for land use conflicts over environmental values is high. To expedite development of solar energy, land use planners will need access to up-to-date and accurate geo-spatial information of PV infrastructure. In this work, we developed a spatially explicit machine learning model to map utility-scale solar projects across India using freely available satellite imagery with a mean accuracy of 92%. Our model predictions were validated by human experts to obtain a dataset of 1363 solar PV farms. Using this dataset, we measure the solar footprint across India and quantified the degree of landcover modification associated with the development of PV infrastructure. Precise location of faults for large distance power transmission networks is essential for faster repair and restoration process. High Voltage direct current (HVdc) networks using modular multi-level converter (MMC) technology has found its prominence for interconnected multi-terminal networks. This allows for large distance bulk power transmission at lower costs. However, they cope with the challenge of dc faults. Fast and efficient methods to isolate the network under dc faults have been widely studied and investigated. After successful isolation, it is essential to precisely locate the fault. The post-fault voltage and current signatures are a function of multiple factors and thus accurately locating faults on a multi-terminal network is challenging. In this paper, we discuss a novel data-driven ensemble learning based approach for accurate fault location. Here we utilize the eXtreme Gradient Boosting (XGB) method for accurate fault location. The sensitivity of the proposed algorithm to measurement noise, fault location, resistance and current limiting inductance are performed on a radial three-terminal MTdc network designed in Power System Computer Aided Design (PSCAD)/Electromagnetic Transients including dc (EMTdc).

Disaggregated memory architectures provide benefits to applications beyond traditional scale out environments, such as independent scaling of compute and memory resources. They also provide an independent failure model, where computations or the compute nodes they run on may fail independently of the disaggregated memory; thus, data that's resident in the disaggregated memory is unaffected by the compute failure. Blind application of traditional techniques for resilience (e.g., checkpoints or data replication) does not take advantage of these architectures. To demonstrate the potential benefit of these architectures for resilience, we develop Memory-Oriented Distributed Computing (MODC), a framework for programming disaggregated architectures that borrows and adapts ideas from task-based programming models, concurrent programming techniques, and lock-free data structures. This framework includes a task-based application programming model and a runtime system that provides scheduling, coordination, and fault tolerance mechanisms. One of the major science goals of the Visible Emission Line Coronagraph (VELC) payload aboard the Aditya-L1 mission is to map the coronal magnetic field topology and the quantitative estimation of longitudinal magnetic field on routine basis. The infrared (IR) channel of VELC is equipped with a polarimeter to carry out full Stokes spectropolarimetric observations in the Fe XIII line at 1074.7~nm. The polarimeter is in dual-beam setup with continuously rotating waveplate as the polarization modulator. Detection of circular polarization due to Zeeman effect and depolarization of linear polarization in the presence of magnetic field due to saturated Hanle effect in the Fe~{\sc xiii} line require high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). Due to limited number of photons, long integration times are expected to build the required SNR. In other words signal from a large number of modulation cycles are to be averaged to achieve the required SNR. This poses several difficulties. One of them is the increase in data volume and the other one is the change in modulation matrix in successive modulation cycles. The latter effect arises due to a mismatch between the retarder's rotation period and the length of the signal detection time in the case of VELC spectropolarimeter (VELC/SP). It is shown in this paper that by appropriately choosing the number of samples per half rotation the data volume can be optimized. Segmenting 3D cell nuclei from microscopy image volumes is critical for biological and clinical analysis, enabling the study of cellular expression patterns and cell lineages. However, current datasets for neuronal nuclei usually contain volumes smaller than $10^{\text{-}3}\ mm^3$ with fewer than 500 instances per volume, unable to reveal the complexity in large brain regions and restrict the investigation of neuronal structures. In this paper, we have pushed the task forward to the sub-cubic millimeter scale and curated the NucMM dataset with two fully annotated volumes: one $0.1\ mm^3$ electron microscopy (EM) volume containing nearly the entire zebrafish brain with around 170,000 nuclei; and one $0.25\ mm^3$ micro-CT (uCT) volume containing part of a mouse visual cortex with about 7,000 nuclei. With two imaging modalities and significantly increased volume size and instance numbers, we discover a great diversity of neuronal nuclei in appearance and density, introducing new challenges to the field. We also perform a statistical analysis to illustrate those challenges quantitatively. To tackle the challenges, we propose a novel hybrid-representation learning model that combines the merits of foreground mask, contour map, and signed distance transform to produce high-quality 3D masks. The benchmark comparisons on the NucMM dataset show that our proposed method significantly outperforms state-of-the-art nuclei segmentation approaches. Generative adversarial networks (GAN) are a class of powerful machine learning techniques, where both a generative and discriminative model are trained simultaneously. GANs have been used, for example, to successfully generate "deep fake" images. A recent trend in malware research consists of treating executables as images and employing image-based analysis techniques. In this research, we generate fake malware images using auxiliary classifier GANs (AC-GAN), and we consider the effectiveness of various techniques for classifying the resulting images. Our results indicate that the resulting multiclass classification problem is challenging, yet we can obtain strong results when restricting the problem to distinguishing between real and fake samples. While the AC-GAN generated images often appear to be very similar to real malware images, we conclude that from a deep learning perspective, the AC-GAN generated samples do not rise to the level of deep fake malware images.

Black phosphorus (BP) analogous tin(II) sulfide (SnS) has recently emerged as an attractive building block for electronic devices due to its highly anisotropic response. Two-dimensional (2D) SnS has shown to exhibit in-plane anisotropy in optical and electrical properties. However, the limitations in growing ultrasmall structures of SnS hinder the experimental exploration of anisotropic behavior in low dimension. Here, we present an elegant approach of synthesizing highly crystalline nanometer-sized SnS sheets. Ultrasmall SnS exhibits two distinct valleys along armchair and zig-zag directions due to in-plane structural anisotropy like bulk SnS. We show that in such SnS nanosheet dots, the band gaps corresponding to two valleys are increased due to quantum confinement effect. We particularly observe that SnS quantum dots (QDs) show excitation energy dependent photoluminescence (PL), which originates from the two nondegenerate valleys. Our work may open up an avenue to show the potential of SnS QDs for new functionalities in electronics and optoelectronics.

Organo-lead halide perovskite materials have opened up a great opportunity to develop high performance photodetectors because of their superior optoelectronic properties. The main issue with perovskite-only photodetector is severe carrier recombination. Integration of perovskite with high-conductive materials such as graphene or transition metal sulfides certainly improved the photoresponsivity. However, achieving high overall performance remains a challenge. Here, an improved photodetector is constructed by perovskite quantum dots (QDs) and atomic layer deposited (ALD) ultrathin TiO2 films. The designed CH3NH3PbBr3 QD/TiO2 bilayer device displays inclusive performance with on/off ratio of 6.3x102, responsivity of 85 AW-1, and rise/decay time of 0.09/0.11 s. Furthermore, we demonstrate that interface plays a crucial role in determining the device current and enhance the overall performance of heterostructure photodetectors through interface engineering. The dearth of clean textual data often acts as a bottleneck in several natural language processing applications. The data available often lacks proper case (uppercase or lowercase) information. This often comes up when text is obtained from social media, messaging applications and other online platforms. This paper attempts to solve this problem by restoring the correct case of characters, commonly known as Truecasing. Doing so improves the accuracy of several processing tasks further down in the NLP pipeline. Our proposed architecture uses a combination of convolutional neural networks (CNN), bi-directional long short-term memory networks (LSTM) and conditional random fields (CRF), which work at a character level without any explicit feature engineering. In this study we compare our approach to previous statistical and deep learning based approaches. Our method shows an increment of 0.83 in F1 score over the current state of the art. The pursuit of improved accuracy in recommender systems has led to the incorporation of user context. Context-aware recommender systems typically handle large amounts of data which must be uploaded and stored on the cloud, putting the user's personal information at risk. While there have been previous studies on privacy-sensitive and context-aware recommender systems, there has not been a full-fledged system deployed in an isolated mobile environment. We propose a secure and efficient on-device mechanism to predict a user's next intention. The knowledge of the user's real-time intention can help recommender systems to provide more relevant recommendations at the right moment. Our proposed algorithm is both context and sequence aware. We embed user intentions as weighted nodes in an n-dimensional vector space where each dimension represents a specific user context factor. Through a neighborhood searching method followed by a sequence matching algorithm, we search for the most relevant node to make the prediction. An evaluation of our methodology was done on a diverse real-world dataset where it was able to address practical scenarios like behavior drifts and sequential patterns efficiently and robustly. Our system also outperformed most of the state-of-the-art methods when evaluated for a similar problem domain on standard datasets.

Chromospheric magnetic fields are of paramount importance in understanding the dynamics of energetic events in the solar atmosphere. At the Kodaikanal Solar Observatory, several polarimeters were developed in the past to study the active region magnetic fields. A new polarimeter has been developed and installed at Kodaikanal Tower-tunnel Telescope to study the active regions at Chromospheric level, in Ca II $8542~\AA$ spectral line. Design aspects of the instrument and polarimetry strategy are discussed. Telescope instrumental polarization has been revisited and possible ways to reduce it have been proposed. Telescope polarization model developed in Zemax to examine the analytical instrumental polarization model is discussed. The polarimeter control unit, and the software developed to operate the polarimeter are briefly described. Polarimetric calibration of the instrument, observations, corrections for instrumental polarization and the sample Stokes profiles are presented. Polarimetric accuracy and sensitivity are estimated to be better than $3\times10^{-2}$ and $3\times 10^{-3}$ respectively., Comment: 36 pages, 14 figures

In a dual-frequency liquid crystal (DFLC), when the frequency of the applied voltage is more than a critical value ($f_c$), the dielectric anisotropy of the material changes from positive to negative. This causes the director to switch its orientation from parallel to the field (for $f < f_c$), to perpendicular to it ($f > f_c$). Hence DFLC can be used in modulating the light by switching the frequency of an externally applied voltage. We present in this work about application of DFLCs in full Stokes polarimetery. A polarization modulator has been worked out based on two DFLCs and two static retarders. The combination of DFLCs' switching and static retarders are chosen such that more or less equal weightage is given to all the Stokes parameters. Initial results on the optimization of position angles of the modulators are presented towards the goal of achieving polychromatic modulator in the wavelength range 600-900 nm., Comment: 7 pages, 3 figures

The solar mean magnetic field (SMMF) is referred to as the disc-averaged line-of-sight (LOS) magnetic field that also reflects the polarity imbalance of the magnetic field on the Sun. The origin of the SMMF has been debated over the past few decades, with one school of thought suggesting that the contribution to the SMMF is mostly due to the large scale magnetic field structure, also termed as the background magnetic field, whereas other and more recent studies have indicated that active regions have a major contribution to the observed SMMF. In this paper, we re-investigate the issue of the origin of the SMMF by decomposing the solar disk into plages, networks, sunspots and background regions, thereby calculating the variation in the observed SMMF due to each of these features. We have used full disk images from SDO/{\it AIA} recorded at 1600~\AA\, for earmarking plages, networks and background regions and 4500~\AA\, images for separating the sunspots. The LOS fields corresponding to each of these regions are estimated from the co-temporal SDO/{\it HMI} full disk magnetograms. The temporal variation of the SMMF shows a near one-to-one correspondence with that of the background field regions suggesting that they constitute the major component of the observed SMMF. A linear regression analysis based on the coefficient of determination shows that the background field dominates, and accounts for 89\% of the variation in the SMMF whereas the magnetic field from the other features accounts for the rest 11\%., Comment: Published in the Astrophysical Journal

The Solar Mean Magnetic Field (SMMF) is generally defined as disc-averaged line-of-sight (LOS) magnetic field on the sun. The role of active regions and the large-scale magnetic field structures (also called the background) has been debated over past few decades to understand whether the origin of SMMF is either due to the active regions or the background. Context. Remote sensing of weak and small-scale solar magnetic fields is of utmost relevance for a number of important open questions in solar physics. This requires the acquisition of spectropolarimetric data with high spatial resolution (0.1 arcsec) and low noise (1e-3 to 1e-5 of the continuum intensity). The main limitations to obtain these measurements from the ground, are the degradation of the image resolution produced by atmospheric seeing and the seeing-induced crosstalk (SIC). Aims. We introduce the prototype of the Fast Solar Polarimeter (FSP), a new ground-based, high-cadence polarimeter that tackles the above-mentioned limitations by producing data that are optimally suited for the application of post-facto image restoration, and by operating at a modulation frequency of 100 Hz to reduce SIC. Results. The pnCCD camera reaches 400 fps while keeping a high duty cycle (98.6 %) and very low noise (4.94 erms). The modulator is optimized to have high (> 80%) total polarimetric efficiency in the visible spectral range. This allows FSP to acquire 100 photon-noise-limited, full-Stokes measurements per second. We found that the seeing induced signals present in narrow-band, non-modulated, quiet-sun measurements are (a) lower than the noise (7e-5) after integrating 7.66 min, (b) lower than the noise (2.3e-4) after integrating 1.16 min and (c) slightly above the noise (4e-3) after restoring case (b) by means of a multi-object multi-frame blind deconvolution. In addition, we demonstrate that by using only narrow-band images (with low SNR of 13.9) of an active region, we can obtain one complete set of high-quality restored measurements about every 2 s., Comment: Accepted for publication in A&A on March 30, 2016

Image smear, produced by the shutter-less operation of frame transfer CCD detectors, can be detrimental for many imaging applications. Existing algorithms used to numerically remove smear, do not contemplate cases where intensity levels change considerably between consecutive frame exposures. In this report we reformulate the smearing model to include specific variations of the sensor illumination. In this paper, we present binary protector intrusion detection systems which designs the network behavior of user sessions across both the front-end web server and the back-end database. By examining both web and subsequent database requests, we are able to rummage out attacks that independent IDS would not be able to distinguish.

In geographic routing, nodes to their instantaneous neighbour call for to maintain up-to-date positions for making successful forwarding decisions. The geographic location coordinates of the nodes by the periodic broadcasting of beacon packets is a trendy method used by the majority geographic routing protocols to preserve neighbour positions. We contend and display that periodic beaconing apart from of the node mobility and traffic patterns in the network is not nice-looking from both update cost and routing recital points of view. We recommend the Adaptive Position Update (APU) strategy for geographic routing, which enthusiastically adjusts the occurrence of position updates based on the mobility dynamics of the nodes and the forwarding patterns in the system. APU is based on two easy principles: 1) nodes whose arrangements are harder to guess update their positions more recurrently (and vice versa), and (ii) nodes faster to forwarding paths update their positions more recurrently (and vice versa). Our speculative analysis, which is validated by NS2 simulations of a well-known geographic routing procedure, Greedy Perimeter Stateless Routing Protocol (GPSR),shows that APU can drastically reduce the update cost and pick up the routing performance in terms of packet delivery ratio and regular end-to-end delay in assessment with periodic beaconing and other recently proposed updating schemes. Genes linked to X or Z chromosomes, which are hemizygous in the heterogametic sex, are predicted to evolve at different rates than those on autosomes. This faster-X effect can arise either as a consequence of hemizygosity, which leads to more efficient selection for recessive beneficial mutations in the heterogametic sex, or as a consequence of reduced effective population size of the hemizygous chromosome, which leads to increased fixation of weakly deleterious mutations due to random genetic drift. Empirical results to date have suggested that, while the overall pattern across taxa is complicated, in general systems with male-heterogamy show a faster-X effect primarily attributable to more efficient selection while the only female-heterogamy taxon studied to date (birds) shows a faster-Z effect primarily attributable to increased drift. In order to test the generality of the faster-Z pattern seen in birds, we sequenced the genome of the Lepidopteran insect Bombyx huttoni, a close outgroup of the domesticated silkmoth Bombyx mori. We show that silkmoths experience faster-Z evolution, but unlike in birds, the faster-Z effect appears to be attributable to more efficient positive selection in females. These results suggest that female-heterogamy alone is unlikely to be sufficient to explain the reduced efficacy of selection on the bird Z chromosome. Accurate measurement of polarization in spectral lines is important for the reliable inference of magnetic fields on the Sun. For ground based observations, polarimetric precision is severely limited by the presence of Earth's atmosphere. Atmospheric turbulence (seeing) produces signal fluctuations which combined with the non-simultaneous nature of the measurement process cause intermixing of the Stokes parameters known as seeing induced polarization cross-talk. Previous analysis of this effect (Judge et al., 2004) suggests that cross-talk is reduced not only with increase in modulation frequency but also by compensating the seeing induced image aberrations by an Adaptive Optics (AO) system. However, in those studies the effect of higher order image aberrations than those corrected by the AO system was not taken into account. We present in this paper an analysis of seeing induced cross-talk in the presence of higher order image aberrations through numerical simulation. In this analysis we find that the amount of cross-talk among Stokes parameters is practically independent of the degree of image aberration corrected by an AO system. We report design and subsequent fabrication of an intrinsically gain flattened Erbium doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) based on a highly asymmetrical and concentric dual-core fiber, inner core of which was only partially doped. Phase-resonant optical coupling between the two cores was so tailored through optimization of its refractive index profile parameters that the longer wavelengths within the C-band experience relatively higher amplification compared to the shorter wavelengths thereby reducing the difference in the well-known tilt in the gains between the shorter and longer wavelength regions. The fabricated EDFA exhibited a median gain ?28 dB (gain excursion below $\pm$2.2 dB within the C-band) when 16 simultaneous standard signal channels were launched by keeping the I/P level for each at ?20 dBm/ channel. Such EDFAs should be attractive for deployment in metro networks, where economics is a premium, because it would cut down the cost on gain flattening filter head.

Simultaneous measurement of line-of-sight (LOS) magnetic and velocity fields at the photosphere and chromosphere are presented. Fe I line at $\lambda6569$ and $H_{\alpha}$ at $\lambda6563$ are used respectively for deriving the physical parameters at photospheric and chromospheric heights. The LOS magnetic field obtained through the center-of-gravity method show a linear relation between photospheric and chromospheric field for field strengths less than 700 G. But in strong field regions, the LOS magnetic field values derived from $H_{\alpha}$ are much weaker than what one gets from the linear relationship and also from those expected from the extrapolation of the photospheric magnetic field. We discuss in detail the properties of magnetic field observed in $H_{\alpha}$ from the point of view of observed velocity gradients. The bisector analysis of $H_{\alpha}$ Stokes $I$ profiles show larger velocity gradients in those places where strong photospheric magnetic fields are observed. An eight stage balanced modulation scheme for dual beam polarimetry is presented in this paper. The four Stokes parameters are weighted equally in all the eight stages of modulation resulting in total polarimetric efficiency of unity. The gain table error inherent in dual beam system is reduced by using the well known beam swapping technique. The wavelength dependent polarimetric efficiencies of Stokes parameters due to the chromatic nature of the waveplates are presented. The proposed modulation scheme produces better Stokes $Q$ and $V$ efficiencies for wavelengths larger than the design wavelength whereas Stokes $U$ has better efficiency in the shorter wavelength region. Calibration of the polarimeter installed as a backend instrument of the Kodaikanal Tower Telescope is presented. It is found through computer simulation that a 14% sky transparency variation during calibration of the polarimeter can introduce $\approx 1.8%$ uncertainty in the determination of its response matrix., Comment: accepted for publication in BASI
