This paper proposes incentive mechanisms that promote eco-driving in transportation networks with the over-arching objective of minimizing emissions. The transportation system operator provides the drivers with energy-efficient driving guidance throughout their trips, and their eco-driving levels are measured by how closely they follow this guidance via vehicle telematics. Drivers choose their eco-driving levels to optimize a combination of their travel times and their emissions. To obtain optimal budget allocation and recommendations for the incentive mechanism, the system operator gathers drivers' preferences, or types, to assess each driver's trip urgency and natural willingness to eco-drive. In a setting where drivers truthfully report their types, we introduce the first-best incentive mechanism and show that the obedience condition holds (i.e., drivers find it optimal to comply with the system operator's recommendations) when the recommended eco-driving profile constitutes a Nash equilibrium. Moreover, in a setting where drivers can strategically report their types, we introduce the second-best incentive mechanism and show that the proposed mechanism is incentive-compatible (i.e., drivers find it optimal to be truthful). Under this mechanism, we also show that all equilibrium outcomes are at least as good as the recommended eco-driving profile in terms of the system operator's objective. Overall, this work offers a framework for designing eco-driving incentive mechanisms while considering both the strategic behavior of individual drivers and the network effects of collective decision-making.

The study of interplay between the geometric nature of Bloch electrons and transverse responses under strong field offers new opportunities for optoelectronic applications. Here, we present a comprehensive study of the strong-field response of Weyl Dirac nodes in bilayer T'-WTe2 using time-dependent first-principles formalism. The electron dynamics is explored focusing on the mid-infrared frequency, ranging from the perturbative to nonperturbative regime. In the nonperturbative regime, the high-harmonic generation (HHG) spectra under a strong field clearly exhibit a plateau and energy cutoffs for both longitudinal and anomalous Hall (transverse) currents, with the latter being due to the large interband Berry curvature of the Weyl-Dirac semimetal. For the longitudinal harmonics, the intraband contributions increase with intensity, resulting in a complex interplay between interband polarization and intraband motions. Remarkably, if we take a comprehensive all-band perspective enabled by time-dependent density functional calculations, the anomalous Hall responses are purely attributed to the interband processes, even in the nonperturbative regime, thus Hall HHG can be crucial to understand the carrier dynamics. Our findings suggest that HHG associated with the ultrafast strong-field driven electron dynamics holds immense potential for exploring the nonlinear high Hall responses in Weyl semimetal., Comment: 19 pages, 5 figures

We consider a Stackelberg game in which a principal (she) establishes a two-stage contract with a non-myopic agent (he) whose type is unknown. The contract takes the form of an incentive function mapping the agent's first-stage action to his second-stage incentive. While the first-stage action reveals the agent's type under truthful play, a non-myopic agent could benefit from portraying a false type in the first stage to obtain a larger incentive in the second stage. The challenge is thus for the principal to design the incentive function so as to induce truthful play. We show that this is only possible with a constant, non-reactive incentive functions when the type space is continuous, whereas it can be achieved with reactive functions for discrete types. Eco-driving emerges as a cost-effective and efficient strategy to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions in urban transportation networks. Acknowledging the persuasive influence of incentives in shaping driver behavior, this paper presents the `eco-planner,' a digital platform devised to promote eco-driving practices in urban transportation. At the outset of their trips, users provide the platform with their trip details and travel time preferences, enabling the eco-planner to formulate personalized eco-driving recommendations and corresponding incentives, while adhering to its budgetary constraints. Upon trip completion, incentives are transferred to users who comply with the recommendations and effectively reduce their emissions. By comparing our proposed incentive mechanism with a baseline scheme that offers uniform incentives to all users, we demonstrate that our approach achieves superior emission reductions and increased user compliance with a smaller budget.

Set-based state estimation plays a vital role in the safety verification of dynamical systems, which becomes significantly challenging when the system's sensors are susceptible to cyber-attacks. Existing methods often impose limitations on the attacker's capabilities, restricting the number of attacked sensors to be strictly less than half of the total number of sensors. This paper proposes a Secure Set-Based State Estimation (S3E) algorithm that addresses this limitation. The S3E algorithm guarantees that the true system state is contained within the estimated set, provided the initialization set encompasses the true initial state and the system is redundantly observable from the set of uncompromised sensors. The algorithm gives the estimated set as a collection of constrained zonotopes, which can be employed as robust certificates for verifying whether the system adheres to safety constraints. Furthermore, we demonstrate that the estimated set remains unaffected by attack signals of sufficiently large and also establish sufficient conditions for attack detection, identification, and filtering. This compels the attacker to inject only stealthy signals of small magnitude to evade detection, thus preserving the accuracy of the estimated set. When a few number of sensors (less than half) can be compromised, we prove that the estimated set remains bounded by a contracting set that converges to a ball whose radius is solely determined by the noise magnitude and is independent of the attack signals. To address the computational complexity of the algorithm, we offer several strategies for complexity-performance trade-offs. The efficacy of the proposed algorithm is illustrated through its application to a three-story building model.

We investigate the tunneling phenomenon of particles through the horizon of a magnetized Ernst-like black hole. We employ the modified Lagrangian equation with the extended uncertainty principle for this black hole. We determine a tunneling rate and the related Hawking temperature for this black hole by using the WKB approach in the field equation. In addition, we examine the graph behavior of the Hawking temperature in relation to the black hole event horizon. We explore the stability analysis of this black hole by taking into account the impact of quantum gravity on Hawking temperatures. The temperature for a magnetized Ernst-like black hole rises as the correction parameter is decreased. Moreover, we analyze the thermodynamics quantities such as Hawking temperature, heat capacity and Bekenstein entropy by using the different approach. We obtain the corrected entropy to study the impact of logarithmic corrections on the different thermodynamic quantities. Noether theorem establishes an interesting connection between symmetries of the action integral and conservation laws of a dynamical system. The aim of the present work is to classify the damped harmonic oscillator problem with respect to Noether symmetries and to construct corresponding conservation laws for all over-damped, under damped and critical damped cases. For each case we obtain maximum five linearly independent group generators which provide related five conserved quantities. Remarkably, after obtaining complete set of invariant quantities we obtain analytical solutions for each case. In the current work, we also introduce a new Lagrangian for the damped harmonic oscillator. Though the form of this new Lagrangian and presented by Bateman are completely different, yet it generates same set of Noether symmetries and conserved quantities. So, this new form of Lagrangian we are presenting here may be seriously interesting for the physicists. Moreover, we also find the Lie algebras of Noether symmetries and point out some interesting aspects of results related to Noether symmetries and first integrals of damped harmonic oscillator which perhaps not reported in the earlier studies., Comment: 11 pages

Isolated post-capillary pulmonary hypertension (Ipc-PH) occurs due to left heart failure, which contributes to 1 out of every 9 deaths in the United States. In some patients, through unknown mechanisms, Ipc-PH transitions to combined pre-/post-capillary PH (Cpc-PH), diagnosed by an increase in pulmonary vascular resistance and associated with a dramatic increase in mortality. We hypothesize that altered mechanical forces and subsequent vasoactive signaling in the pulmonary capillary bed drive the transition from Ipc-PH to Cpc-PH. However, even in a healthy pulmonary circulation, the mechanical forces in the smallest vessels (the arterioles, venules, and capillary bed) have not been quantitatively defined. This study is the first to examine this question via a computational fluid dynamics model of the human pulmonary arteries, veins, arterioles, and venules. Using this model we predict temporal and spatial dynamics of cyclic stretch and wall shear stress. In the large vessels, numerical simulations show that shear stress increases coincides with larger flow and pressure. In the microvasculature, we found that as vessel radius decreases, shear stress increases and flow decreases. In arterioles, this corresponds with lower pressures; however, the venules and smaller veins have higher pressure than larger veins. Our model provides predictions for pressure, flow, shear stress, and cyclic stretch that provides a way to analyze and investigate hypotheses related to disease progression in the pulmonary circulation., Comment: 26 pages, 9 figures

Chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH) is caused by recurrent or unresolved pulmonary thromboemboli, leading to perfusion defects and increased arterial wave reflections. CTEPH treatment aims to reduce pulmonary arterial pressure and reestablish adequate lung perfusion, yet patients with distal lesions are inoperable by standard surgical intervention. Instead, these patients undergo balloon pulmonary angioplasty (BPA), a multi-session, minimally invasive surgery that disrupts the thromboembolic material within the vessel lumen using a catheter balloon. However, there still lacks an integrative, holistic tool for identifying optimal target lesions for treatment. To address this insufficiency, we simulate CTEPH hemodynamics and BPA therapy using a multiscale fluid dynamics model. The large pulmonary arterial geometry is derived from a computed tomography (CT) image, whereas a fractal tree represents the small vessels. We model ring- and web-like lesions, common in CTEPH, and simulate normotensive conditions and four CTEPH disease scenarios; the latter includes both large artery lesions and vascular remodeling. BPA therapy is simulated by simultaneously reducing lesion severity in three locations. Our predictions mimic severe CTEPH, manifested by an increase in mean proximal pulmonary arterial pressure above 20 mmHg and prominent wave reflections. Both flow and pressure decrease in vessels distal to the lesions and increase in unobstructed vascular regions. We use the main pulmonary artery (MPA) pressure, a wave reflection index, and a measure of flow heterogeneity to select optimal target lesions for BPA. Asymptotically safe gravity is one effective approach to quantum gravity. It is important to differentiate the modified gravity inspired by asymptotically safe gravity. In this paper, we examine the matter particles dynamics near the improved version of Schwarzschild black hole. We assume that in the context of asymptotically safe gravity scenario the ambient matter surrounding the black hole is of isothermal in nature and investigate the spherical accretion of matter by deriving solutions at critical points. The analysis for the various values of the state parameter for isothermal test fluids, viz., $k=1,~1/2,~1/3,~1/4$ show the possibility of accretion onto asymptotically safe black hole. Detection and monitoring of patients with pulmonary hypertension, defined as mean blood pressure in the main pulmonary artery above 25 mmHg, requires a combination of imaging and hemodynamic measurements. This study demonstrates how to combine imaging data from microcomputed tomography (micro-CT) images with hemodynamic pressure and flow waveforms from control and hypertensive mice. Specific attention is devoted to developing a tool that processes CT images, generating subject-specific arterial networks in which 1D fluid dynamics modeling is used to predict blood pressure and flow. Each arterial network is modeled as a directed graph representing vessels along the principal pathway to ensure perfusion of all lobes. The 1D model couples these networks with structured tree boundary conditions informed by the image data. Fluid dynamics equations are solved in this network and compared to measurements of pressure in the main pulmonary artery. Analysis of micro-CT images reveals that the branching ratio is the same in the control and hypertensive animals, but that the vessel length to radius ratio is significantly lower in the hypertensive animals. Fluid dynamics predictions show that in addition to changed network geometry, vessel stiffness is higher in the hypertensive animal models than in the control models.

Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) models are emerging as tools for assisting in diagnostic assessment of cardiovascular disease. Recent advances in image segmentation has made subject-specific modelling of the cardiovascular system a feasible task, which is particularly important in the case of pulmonary hypertension (PH), which requires a combination of invasive and non-invasive procedures for diagnosis. Uncertainty in image segmentation can easily propagate to CFD model predictions, making uncertainty quantification crucial for subject-specific models. This study quantifies the variability of one-dimensional (1D) CFD predictions by propagating the uncertainty of network geometry and connectivity to blood pressure and flow predictions. We analyse multiple segmentations of an image of an excised mouse lung using different pre-segmentation parameters. A custom algorithm extracts vessel length, vessel radii, and network connectivity for each segmented pulmonary network. We quantify uncertainty in geometric features by constructing probability densities for vessel radius and length, and then sample from these distributions and propagate uncertainties of haemodynamic predictions using a 1D CFD model. Results show that variation in network connectivity is a larger contributor to haemodynamic uncertainty than vessel radius and length.

SSDs are currently replacing magnetic disks in many application areas. A challenge of the underlying flash technology is that data cannot be updated in-place. A block consisting of many pages must be completely erased before a single page can be rewritten. This victim block can still contain valid pages which need to be copied to other blocks before erasure. The objective of garbage collection strategies is to minimize write amplification induced by copying valid pages from victim blocks while minimizing the performance overhead of the victim selection. Victim selection strategies minimizing write amplification, like the cost-benefit approach, have linear runtime, while the write amplifications of time-efficient strategies, like the greedy strategy, significantly reduce the lifetime of SSDs. In this paper, we propose two strategies which optimize the performance of cost-benefit, while (almost) preserving its write amplification. This study combines a one-dimensional (1D) model with micro-CT imaging and hemodynamic data to quantify uncertainty of flow and pressure predictions in the pulmonary arteries in a control and hypoxia induced hypertensive mouse. We use local and global sensitivity and correlation analysis to determine parameters that can be inferred from the model and available data. Least squares optimization is used to estimate mouse specific parameters, and Bayesian as well as asymptotic uncertainty quantification techniques are employed to determine confidence, credible, and prediction intervals for the model parameters and response. These techniques are used to examine the effects of network size and to understand how parameters change with disease (hypertension). Results showed that the peripheral vascular resistance is the most sensitive, and as the network size increases the parameter behavior changes. Correlation analysis revealed that in hypertension large vessel stiffness is correlated with proximal resistance in the boundary. We were able to estimate identifiable parameters using both deterministic and Bayesian techniques (the maxima of the parameter distributions determined using Bayesian analysis aligned with local optima). From these estimates we determined confidence and prediction intervals, which all were within physiological expectation. Analysis of estimated parameter values for the representative mice studied here showed that the hypertensive mouse has stiffer (but larger) vessels and that compliance is decreased both in the proximal and peripheral vasculature.

This study performs parameter inference in a partial differential equations system of pulmonary circulation. We use a fluid dynamics network model that takes selected parameter values and mimics the behaviour of the pulmonary haemodynamics under normal physiological and pathological conditions. This is of medical interest as it enables tracking the progression of pulmonary hypertension. We show how we make the fluids model tractable by reducing the parameter dimension from a 55D to a 5D problem. The Delayed Rejection Adaptive Metropolis (DRAM) algorithm, coupled with constraint nonlinear optimization is successfully used to learn the parameter values and quantify the uncertainty in the parameter estimates. To accommodate for different magnitudes of the parameter values, we introduce an improved parameter scaling technique in the DRAM algorithm. Formal convergence diagnostics are employed to check for convergence of the Markov chains. Additionally, we perform model selection using different information criteria, including Watanabe Akaike Information Criteria.

This study uses a one dimensional fluid dynamics arterial network model to infer changes in hemodynamic quantities associated with pulmonary hypertension in mice. Data for this study include blood flow and pressure measurements from the main pulmonary artery for 7 control mice with normal pulmonary function and 5 hypertensive mice with hypoxia induced pulmonary hypertension. Arterial dimensions for a 21 vessel network are extracted from micro-CT images of lungs from a representative control and hypertensive mouse. Each vessel is represented by its length and radius. Fluid dynamic computations are done assuming that the flow is Newtonian, viscous, laminar, and has no swirl. The system of equations is closed by a constitutive equation relating pressure and area, using a linear model derived from stress-strain deformation in the circumferential direction assuming that the arterial walls are thin, and also an empirical nonlinear model. For each dataset, an inflow waveform is extracted from the data, and nominal parameters specifying the outflow boundary conditions are computed from mean values and characteristic time scales extracted from the data. The model is calibrated for each mouse by estimating parameters that minimize the least squares error between measured and computed waveforms. Optimized parameters are compared across the control and the hypertensive groups to characterize vascular remodeling with disease. Results show that pulmonary hypertension is associated with stiffer and less compliant proximal and distal vasculature with augmented wave reflections, and that elastic nonlinearities are insignificant in the hypertensive animal.

Motivated by earlier works on reconstruction of modified gravity models with dark energy components, we extend them by considering a newly proposed model of (m, n)- type of holographic dark energy for two models of modified gravity, f(R) and f(T) theories, where R and T represent Ricci scalar and torsion scalar respectively. Specifically we reconstruct the two later gravity models and discuss their viability and cosmography. In this paper, we study the validity of the generalized second law (GSL) in phantom dominated universe in the presence of a Reissner-Nordstr\"{o}m (RN) black hole. Our study is independent of the origin of the phantom like behavior of the considered universe. We also discuss the GSL in the neighborhood of transition from quintessence to phantom regime. We show that for a constant equation of state parameter, the GSL may be satisfied provided that the temperature is proportional to de Sitter temperature. It is shown that in models with (only) a transition from quintessence to phantom regime the generalized second law does not hold in the transition epoch. In this paper we study the relationship between the Einstein field equations for the (2+1)-dimensional evolving wormhole and the first law of thermodynamics. It has been shown that the Einstein field equations can be rewritten as a similar form of the first law of thermodynamics at the dynamical trapping horizon (as proposed by Hayward) for the dynamical spacetime which describes intrinsic thermal properties associated with the trapping horizon. For a particular choice of the shape and potential functions we are able to express field equations as a similar form of first law of thermodynamics $dE=-TdS+WdA$ at the trapping horizons. Holographic dark energy (HDE), presents a dynamical view of dark energy which is consistent with the observational data and has a solid theoretical background. Its definition follows from the entropy-area relation $S(A)$, where $S$ and $A$ are entropy and area respectively. In the framework of loop quantum gravity, a modified definition of HDE called "entropy-corrected holographic dark energy" (ECHDE) has been proposed recently to explain dark energy with the help of quantum corrections to the entropy-area relation. A so-called "entropy-corrected holographic dark energy" (ECHDE), was recently proposed to explain the dark energy-dominated universe with the help of quantum corrections to the entropy-area relation in the setup of loop quantum cosmology. Using this new definition, we investigate its thermodynamical features including entropy and energy conservation. We describe the thermodynamical interpretation of the interaction between ECHDE and dark matter in a non-flat universe. We obtain a relation between the interaction term of the dark components and thermal fluctuation. Our study further generalizes the earlier works [M.R. Setare and E.C. Vagenas, Phys. Lett. We have determined the exact form of the equation of state of phantom energy that supports the wormhole structure. We have examined the possible construction of a stationary, spherically symmetric and spatially inhomogeneous wormhole spacetime supported by the phantom energy. The later is supposed to be represented by the modified Chaplygin gas equation of state. The solutions so obtained satisfy the flare out and the asymptotic flatness conditions.
