Edge detection, as a fundamental task in computer vision, has garnered increasing attention. The advent of deep learning has significantly advanced this field. However, recent deep learning-based methods which rely on large-scale pre-trained weights cannot be trained from scratch, with very limited research addressing this issue. This paper proposes a novel cycle pixel difference convolution (CPDC), which effectively integrates image gradient information with modern convolution operations. Based on the CPDC, we develop a U-shape encoder-decoder model named CPD-Net, which is a purely end-to-end network. Additionally, to address the issue of edge thickness produced by most existing methods, we construct a multi-scale information enhancement module (MSEM) to enhance the discriminative ability of the model, thereby generating crisp and clean contour maps. Comprehensive experiments conducted on three standard benchmarks demonstrate that our method achieves competitive performance on the BSDS500 dataset (ODS=0.813), NYUD-V2 (ODS=0.760), and BIPED dataset (ODS=0.898). Our approach provides a novel perspective for addressing these challenges in edge detection.

Sparse and noisy images (SNIs), like those in spatial gene expression data, pose significant challenges for effective representation learning and clustering, which are essential for thorough data analysis and interpretation. In response to these challenges, we propose Dual Advancement of Representation Learning and Clustering (DARLC), an innovative framework that leverages contrastive learning to enhance the representations derived from masked image modeling. Simultaneously, DARLC integrates cluster assignments in a cohesive, end-to-end approach. This integrated clustering strategy addresses the "class collision problem" inherent in contrastive learning, thus improving the quality of the resulting representations. To generate more plausible positive views for contrastive learning, we employ a graph attention network-based technique that produces denoised images as augmented data. As such, our framework offers a comprehensive approach that improves the learning of representations by enhancing their local perceptibility, distinctiveness, and the understanding of relational semantics. Furthermore, we utilize a Student's t mixture model to achieve more robust and adaptable clustering of SNIs. Extensive experiments, conducted across 12 different types of datasets consisting of SNIs, demonstrate that DARLC surpasses the state-of-the-art methods in both image clustering and generating image representations that accurately capture gene interactions. Edge detection is a fundamental task in computer vision. It has made great progress under the development of deep convolutional neural networks (DCNNs), some of which have achieved a beyond human-level performance. However, recent top-performing edge detection methods tend to generate thick and noisy edge lines. In this work, we solve this problem from two aspects: (1) the lack of prior knowledge regarding image edges, and (2) the issue of imbalanced pixel distribution. We propose a second-order derivative-based multi-scale contextual enhancement module (SDMCM) to help the model locate true edge pixels accurately by introducing the edge prior knowledge. We also construct a hybrid focal loss function (HFL) to alleviate the imbalanced distribution issue. In addition, we employ the conditionally parameterized convolution (CondConv) to develop a novel boundary refinement module (BRM), which can further refine the final output edge maps. In the end, we propose a U-shape network named LUS-Net which is based on the SDMCM and BRM for crisp edge detection. We perform extensive experiments on three standard benchmarks, and the experiment results illustrate that our method can predict crisp and clean edge maps and achieves state-of-the-art performance on the BSDS500 dataset (ODS=0.829), NYUD-V2 dataset (ODS=0.768), and BIPED dataset (ODS=0.903).

Fiber optic networks are used worldwide and have been regarded as excellent media for transmitting time-frequency (TF) signals. In the past decades, fiber-based TF synchronization techniques have been extensively studied. Instruments based on these techniques have been successfully applied. With the increasing application of TF synchronization instruments, their security has become an important issue. Unfortunately, the security risks of fiber-based frequency synchronization (FbFS) instruments have been overlooked. This paper proposes a frequency tampering method called "frequency lens". On a 200 km fiber link, we demonstrate a frequency tampering scenario using a frequency lens-enabled frequency tampering module (FTM). On the user side, the frequency value of the recovered 100 MHz signal can be stealthily altered within a range of 100 MHz-100 Hz to 100 MHz+100 Hz, while the frequency dissemination stability of the system remains normal. Related to this tampering risk, potential hazards in three different application scenarios, which rely on precise frequency references, are analyzed. Two countermeasures are also proposed to solve this tampering risk.

In recent times, learning-based methods for video deraining have demonstrated commendable results. However, there are two critical challenges that these methods are yet to address: exploiting temporal correlations among adjacent frames and ensuring adaptability to unknown real-world scenarios. To overcome these challenges, we explore video deraining from a paradigm design perspective to learning strategy construction. Specifically, we propose a new computational paradigm, Alignment-Shift-Fusion Network (ASF-Net), which incorporates a temporal shift module. This module is novel to this field and provides deeper exploration of temporal information by facilitating the exchange of channel-level information within the feature space. To fully discharge the model's characterization capability, we further construct a LArge-scale RAiny video dataset (LARA) which also supports the development of this community. On the basis of the newly-constructed dataset, we explore the parameters learning process by developing an innovative re-degraded learning strategy. This strategy bridges the gap between synthetic and real-world scenes, resulting in stronger scene adaptability. Our proposed approach exhibits superior performance in three benchmarks and compelling visual quality in real-world scenarios, underscoring its efficacy. We show how to utilize magnetostriction to synchronize two mechanical vibration modes in a cavity magnomechanical system. The dispersive magnetostrictive interaction provides necessary nonlinearity required for achieving synchronization. Strong phase correlation between two mechanical oscillators can be established, leading to the synchronization robust against thermal noise. We develop a theoretical framework to analyze the synchronization by solving the constraint conditions of steady-state limit cycles. We determine that the strong cavity-magnon linear coupling can enhance and regulate the synchronization, which offers a new path to modulate synchronization. The work reveals a new mechanism for achieving and modulating synchronization and indicates that cavity magnomechanical systems can be an ideal platform to explore rich synchronization phenomena., Comment: Accepted to Phys. Over the past few decades, fiber-optic time synchronization (FOTS) has provided fundamental support for the efficient operation of modern society. Looking toward the future beyond fifth-generation/sixth-generation (B5G/6G) scenarios and very large radio telescope arrays, developing high-precision, low-complexity and scalable FOTS technology is crucial for building a large-scale time synchronization network. However, the traditional two-way FOTS method needs a data layer to exchange time delay information. This increases the complexity of system and makes it impossible to realize multiple-access time synchronization. In this paper, a time reversal enabled FOTS method is proposed. It measures the clock difference between two locations without involving a data layer, which can reduce the complexity of the system. Moreover, it can also achieve multiple-access time synchronization along the fiber link. Tests over a 230 km fiber link have been carried out to demonstrate the high performance of the proposed method.

We study the effect of frequent projective measurements on the dynamics of quantum self-sustaining systems, by considering the prototypical example of the quantum Van der Pol oscillator. Quantum fluctuations are responsible for phase diffusion which progressively blurs the semiclassical limit cycle dynamics and synchronization, either to an external driving, or between two coupled self-sustained oscillators. We show that by subjecting the system to repeated measurements of heterodyne type at an appropriate repetition frequency one can significantly suppress phase diffusion without spoiling the semiclassical dynamics. This quantum Zeno-like effect may be effective either in the case of one or two coupled van der Pol oscillators, and we discuss its possible implementation in the case of trapped ions.

We establish a method for the determination of the single-photon optomechanical coupling rate, which characterizes the radiation pressure interaction in an optomechanical system. The estimation of the rate with which a mechanical oscillator, initially in a thermal state, undergoes a Hopf bifurcation, and reaches a limit cycle, allows us to determine the single-photon optomechanical coupling rate in a simple and consistent way. Most importantly, and in contrast to other methods, our method does not rely on knowledge of the system's bath temperature and on a calibration of the signal. We provide the theoretical framework, and experimentally validate this method, providing a procedure for the full characterization of an optomechanical system, which could be extended outside cavity optomechanics, whenever a resonator is driven into a limit cycle by the appropriate interaction with another degree of freedom.

We study the non-linear dynamics of a multimode optomechanical system constituted of a driven high-finesse Fabry-P\'erot cavity containing two vibrating dielectric membranes. The analytical study allows to derive a full and consistent description of the displacement detection by a probe beam in the non-linear regime, enabling the faithful detection of membrane displacements well above the usual sensing limit corresponding to the cavity linewidth. In the weak driving regime where the system is in a pre-synchronized situation, the unexcited oscillator has a small, synchronized component at the frequency of the excited one; both large and small amplitude resonator motions are transduced in a nontrivial way by the non-linear response of the optical probe beam. We find perfect agreement between the experimental results, the numerical simulations, and an analytical approach based on slowly-varying amplitude equations.

The simultaneous ground-state cooling of multiple degenerate or near-degenerate mechanical modes coupled to a common cavity-field mode has become an outstanding challenge in cavity optomechanics. This is because the dark modes formed by these mechanical modes decouple from the cavity mode and prevent extracting energy from the dark modes through the cooling channel of the cavity mode. Here we propose a universal and reliable dark-mode-breaking method to realize the simultaneous ground-state cooling of two degenerate or nondegenerate mechanical modes by introducing a phasedependent phonon-exchange interaction, which is used to form a loop-coupled configuration. We find an asymmetrical cooling performance for the two mechanical modes and expound this phenomenon based on the nonreciprocal energy transfer mechanism, which leads to the directional flow of phonons between the two mechanical modes. We also generalize this method to cool multiple mechanical modes. An optimized sideband cooling in the presence of initial system correlations is investigated for a standard optomechanical system coupled to a general mechanical non-Markovian reservoir. We study the evolution of phonon number by incorporating the effects of initial correlations into the time-dependent coefficients in the Heisenberg equation. We introduce the concept of cooling rate and define an average phonon reduction function to describe the sideband cooling effect in non-Markovian regime. Our results show that the instantaneous phonon number can be significantly reduced by introducing either the parametric-amplification type or the beam-splitter type initial correlations. In addition, the ground state cooling rate can be accelerated by enhancing the initial correlation of beam-splitter type. By optimizing the initial state of the system and utilizing Q-modulation technology, a stable mechanical ground state can be obtained in a very short time. We study synchronization of a room temperature optomechanical system formed by two resonators coupled via radiation pressure to the same driven optical cavity mode. By using stochastic Langevin equations and effective slowly-varying amplitude equations, we explore the long-time dynamics of the system. We see that thermal noise can induce significant non-Gaussian dynamical properties, including the coexistence of multi-stable synchronized limit cycles and phase diffusion. Synchronization in this optomechanical system is very robust with respect to thermal noise: in fact, even though each oscillator phase progressively diffuses over the whole limit cycle, their phase difference is locked, and such a phase correlation remains strong in the presence of thermal noise., Comment: 13 pages, 8 figures

Non-Hermitian systems with parity-time symmetry have been developed rapidly and hold great promise for future applications. Unlike most existing works considering the symmetry of the free energy terms (e.g., gain-loss system), in this paper, we report that a realizable non-Hermitian interaction between two quantum resonances can also have a real spectrum after the exceptional point. That phenomenon is similar with that in the gain-loss system so that the non-Hermitian interaction can be an excellent substitute for quantum gain. Such a non-Hermitian interaction can be realized in designed optomechanics, and we find that its dynamics are in accordance with those of normal gain system as expected. As examples, the phase transition near the exceptional point and the induced chaos in weak nonlinear coupling are shown and analyzed for an intuitive visual. Our results provide a platform for realizing parity-time symmetry devices and studying properties of non-Hermitian quantum mechanics.

Although people have already artificially formed parity--time ($\mathcal{PT}$) symmetry with gain and loss in a balanced manner, it is still a defect that the gain is restricted to semi--classical but not full quantum. Here we propose and analyze a theoretical scheme to realize full quantum oscillator $\mathcal{PT}$--symmetry. The quantum gain is provided by a dissipation optical cavity with blue detuned laser field. After adiabatically eliminating the cavity modes, we give an effective master equation, which is a more complete quantum description compared with non--Hermitian Hamiltonian, to reveal the quantum behaviors of such a gain oscillator. This kind of $\mathcal{PT}$--symmetry can eliminate the dissipation effect in quantum regime. As examples, we finally apply $\mathcal{PT}$--symmetric oscillators to enhance optomechanically induced transparency and to preserve oscillator non--classical state.

We propose and discuss a theoretical scheme to speed up Zeno dynamic passage by an external acceleration Hamiltonian. This scheme is a flexible and experimentally feasible acceleration because the acceleration Hamiltonian does not adhere rigidly to an invariant relationship, whereas it can be a more general form $\sum u_{j}(t)H_{cj}$. Here $H_{cj}$ can be arbitrarily selected without any limitation, and therefore one can always construct an acceleration Hamiltonian by only using realizable $H_{cj}$. Applying our scheme, we finally design an experimentally feasible Hamiltonian as an example to speed up an entanglement preparation passage.

We propose a method to achieve strong coupling between a spin ensemble and a large Josephson junctions (LJJ). Then, the strong coupling between two spin ensembles can be induced by a LJJ. A non-adiabatic holonomic single-qubit quantum gates is realized. Moreover, with the dispersive interaction between the spin ensembles and the LJJ, the high-fidelity two-qubit phase gate can be implemented with two spin ensembles within an operation time 0.41 ns and $\pi$ phase-swap gate can be realized within an operation time 103.11 ns with a high fidelity greater than 99%.

We investigate quantum synchronization phenomenon within the complex network constituted by coupled optomechanical systems and prove the unknown identical quantum states can be shared or distributed in the quantum network even though the topology is varying. Considering a channel constructed by quantum correlation, we show that quantum synchronization can sustain and maintain high levels in Markovian dissipation for a long time. We analyze state sharing process between two typical complex networks, that is, a small-world network corresponding to linear motif state sharing and a scale-free network corresponding to whole network sharing, respectively. Our results predict that linked nodes can be directly synchronized in small-world network, but the whole network will be synchronized only if some specific synchronization conditions are satisfied. Furthermore, we give the synchronization conditions analytically through analyzing network dynamics. This proposal paves the way for studying multi-interaction synchronization and achieving an effective quantum information processing in complex network.

We propose a quantitative criterion to determine whether the coupled quantum systems can achieve complete synchronization or phase synchronization in the process of analyzing quantum synchronization. Adopting the criterion, we discuss the quantum synchronization effects between optomechanical systems and find that the error between the systems and the fluctuation of error are sensitive to coupling intensity by calculating the largest Lyapunov exponent of the model and quantum fluctuation, respectively. Through taking the appropriate coupling intensity, we can control quantum synchronization even under different logical relationship between switches. Finally, we simulate the dynamical evolution of the system to verify the quantum synchronization criterion and to show the ability of synchronization control.

We extend the concepts of quantum complete synchronization and phase synchronization, which are proposed firstly in [Phys. Rev. Lett, 111 103605 (2013)], to more widespread quantum generalized synchronization. The generalized synchronization can be considered as a necessary condition or a more flexible derivative of complete synchronization, and its criterion and synchronization measurement are further proposed and analyzed in this paper. As an example, we consider two typical generalized synchronizations in a designed optomechanical system. Unlike the effort to construct a special coupling synchronization system, we purposefully design extra control fields based on Lyapunov control theory. We find that the Lyapunov function can adapt to more flexible control objectives, which is more suitable for generalized synchronization control, and the control fields can be achieved simply with a time-variant voltage. Finally, the existence of quantum entanglement in different generalized synchronizations is also discussed.
