We investigate holographic complexities in the context of wedge holography, focusing specifically on black string geometry in AdS$_3$. The wedge spacetime is bounded by two end-of-the-world (EOW) branes with intrinsic Dvali-Gabadadze-Porrati (DGP) gravity. In line with this codimension-two holography, there are three equivalent perspectives: bulk perspective, brane perspective, and boundary perspective. Using both the ''Complexity=Volume'' (CV) and ''Complexity=Action'' (CA) proposals, we analyze the complexity in wedge black string geometry in the tensionless limit. By treating the branes as rigid, we find the late-time growth rates of CV and CA match exactly across bulk and brane perspectives. These results are consistent with those from JT gravity, with additional contributions from the intrinsic gravity of the branes. For fluctuating branes, we find that the late-time growth rates of CV and CA match between bulk and brane perspectives at the linear order of fluctuation. The CV results exhibit $\frac{\phi_h^2}{\phi_0}$ corrections from fluctuations, consistent with the findings in previous work. Moreover, the CA results reveal an additional constant term in the fluctuating branes case. We provide an interpretation of this in terms of gravitational edge mode effects. The distinct corrections arising from fluctuations in the CA and CV proposals suggest that the CV proposal is more sensitive to geometric details. We consider the statistics of the results of a measurement of the spreading operator in the Krylov basis generated by the Hamiltonian of a quantum system starting from a specified initial pure state. We first obtain the probability distribution of the results of measurements of this spreading operator at a certain instant of time, and compute the characteristic function of this distribution. We show that the moments of this characteristic function are related to the so-called generalised spread complexities, and obtain expressions for them in several cases when the Hamiltonian is an element of a Lie algebra. Furthermore, by considering a continuum limit of the Krylov basis, we show that the generalised spread complexities of higher orders have a peak in the time evolution for a random matrix Hamiltonian belonging to the Gaussian unitary ensemble. We also obtain an upper bound in the change in generalised spread complexity at an arbitrary time in terms of the operator norm of the Hamiltonian and discuss the significance of these results.

In this study, we calculate the $m-1$ correction to the reflected entropy for two adjacent intervals on a half-infinite line within the AdS$_3$/BCFT$_2$ framework, where $m$ is a Renyi index for a canonical purification. We utilize the doubling trick and compute the leading terms in the large central charge expansion of correlation functions in the holographic BCFT. In the corresponding AdS space with an end of the world brane, we analyze the entanglement wedge cross section, the dual counterpart of reflected entropy. This AdS/BCFT setup allows us to explore a richer set of phases in the entanglement wedge cross section. The $m-1$ correction in the holographic BCFT manifests as modifications in the entanglement wedge cross section induced by cosmic branes. For the adjacent intervals anchored to the boundary of BCFT, we show the duality between the entanglement wedge cross section with the backreaction from a cosmic brane and Renyi reflected entropy at all orders in $m-1$. Furthermore, by analyzing the entanglement wedge cross section for general adjacent intervals, we provide guidance for an $\epsilon$-expansion of five-point functions in the holographic CFT, where $\epsilon$ is the rescaled conformal dimension by the central charge., Comment: 34 pages, 10 figures

We develop the pole-skipping structure in de Sitter (dS) spacetime and find that their leading frequencies satisfy the relation $\omega_{dS}=i2\pi T_{dS}(1-s)$, where $T_{dS}=1/2\pi L$ and $s$ denotes spin. In the two-dimensional dS spacetime, the pole-skipping points near the cosmic horizon $r=L$ for the scalar field of spin-0 and the fermionic field of spin-$\frac{1}{2}$ correspond one-to-one with those in the classical limit as $\lambda\rightarrow 0$ in double-scaled Sachdev-Ye-Kitaev model when the temperature is infinite (DSSYK$_\infty$). This provides a numerical correspondence between the static patch of two-dimensional dS spacetime and the DSSYK$_\infty$ model.

Krylov complexity has recently emerged as a new paradigm to characterize quantum chaos in many-body systems. However, which features of Krylov complexity are prerogative of quantum chaotic systems and how they relate to more standard probes, such as spectral statistics or out-of-time-order correlators (OTOCs), remain open questions. Recent insights have revealed that in quantum chaotic systems Krylov state complexity exhibits a distinct peak during time evolution before settling into a well-understood late-time plateau. In this work, we propose that this Krylov complexity peak (KCP) is a hallmark of quantum chaotic systems and suggest that its height could serve as an 'order parameter' for quantum chaos. We demonstrate that the KCP effectively identifies chaotic-integrable transitions in two representative quantum mechanical models at both infinite and finite temperature: the mass-deformed Sachdev-Ye-Kitaev model and the sparse Sachdev-Ye-Kitaev model. We investigate the bulk reconstruction of AdS black hole spacetime emergent from quantum entanglement within a machine learning framework. Utilizing neural ordinary differential equations alongside Monte-Carlo integration, we develop a method tailored for continuous training functions to extract the general isotropic bulk metric from entanglement entropy data. To validate our approach, we first apply our machine learning algorithm to holographic entanglement entropy data derived from the Gubser-Rocha and superconductor models, which serve as representative models of strongly coupled matters in holography. Our algorithm successfully extracts the corresponding bulk metrics from these data. Additionally, we extend our methodology to many-body systems by employing entanglement entropy data from a fermionic tight-binding chain at half filling, exemplifying critical one-dimensional systems, and derive the associated bulk metric. We find that the metrics for a tight-binding chain and the Gubser-Rocha model are similar. We explore spread and spectral complexity in quantum systems that exhibit a transition from integrability to chaos, namely the mixed-field Ising model and the next-to-nearest-neighbor deformation of the Heisenberg XXZ spin chain. We corroborate the observation that the presence of a peak in spread complexity before its saturation, is a characteristic feature in chaotic systems. We find that, in general, the saturation value of spread complexity post-peak depends not only on the spectral statistics of the Hamiltonian, but also on the specific state. However, there appears to be a maximal universal bound determined by the symmetries and dimension of the Hamiltonian, which is realized by the thermofield double state (TFD) at infinite temperature. We also find that the time scales at which the spread complexity and spectral form factor change their behaviour agree with each other and are independent of the chaotic properties of the systems. In the case of spectral complexity, we identify that the key factor determining its saturation value and timescale in chaotic systems is given by minimum energy difference in the theory's spectrum. This explains observations made in the literature regarding its earlier saturation in chaotic systems compared to their integrable counterparts. We study the pole-skipping phenomenon within holographic axion theories, a common framework for studying strongly coupled systems with chemical potential ($\mu$) and momentum relaxation ($\beta$). Considering the backreaction characterized by $\mu$ and $\beta$, we encounter coupled equations of motion for the metric, gauge, and axion field, which are classified into spin-0, spin-1, and spin-2 channels. Employing gauge-invariant variables, we systematically address these equations and explore pole-skipping points within each sector using the near-horizon method. Our analysis reveals two classes of pole-skipping points: regular and singular pole-skipping points in which the latter is identified when standard linear differential equations exhibit singularity. Notably, pole-skipping points in the lower-half plane are regular, while those elsewhere are singular. This suggests that the pole-skipping point in the spin-0 channel, associated with quantum chaos, corresponds to a singular pole-skipping point. Additionally, we observe that the pole-skipping momentum, if purely real or imaginary for $\mu=\beta=0$, retains this characteristic for $\mu \neq0$ and $\beta \neq 0$., Comment: 30 pages, 3 figures

We employ a deep learning method to deduce the \textit{bulk} spacetime from \textit{boundary} optical conductivity. We apply the neural ordinary differential equation technique, tailored for continuous functions such as the metric, to the typical class of holographic condensed matter models featuring broken translations: linear-axion models. We successfully extract the bulk metric from the boundary holographic optical conductivity. Furthermore, as an example for real material, we use experimental optical conductivity of $\text{UPd}_2\text{Al}_3$, a representative of heavy fermion metals in strongly correlated electron systems, and construct the corresponding bulk metric. In the last decade, motivated by the concept of Planckian relaxation and the possible existence of a quantum critical point in cuprate materials, holographic techniques have been extensively used to tackle the problem of strange metals and high-$T_c$ superconductors. Among the various setups, the linear axion Gubser-Rocha model has often been considered as a promising holographic model for strange metals since endowed with the famous linear in $T$ resistivity property. As fiercely advocated by Phil Anderson, beyond $T$-linear resistivity, there are several additional anomalies unique to the strange metal phase, as for example a Fermi liquid like Hall angle -- the famous problem of the two relaxation scales. In this short note, we show that the linear axion holographic Gubser-Rocha model, which presents a single momentum relaxation time, fails in this respect and therefore is not able to capture the transport phenomenology of strange metals. We prove our statement by means of a direct numerical computation, a previously demonstrated scaling analysis and also a hydrodynamic argument. Finally, we conclude with an optimistic discussion on the possible improvements and generalizations which could lead to a holographic model for strange metals in all their glory., Comment: v2: minor revisions, matching the published version

Motivated by the connection between pole-skipping phenomena of two point functions and four point out-of-time-order correlators, we study the pole-skipping phenomena for rotating BTZ black holes. In particular, we investigate the effect of rotations on the pole-skipping point for various fields with spin $s = 1/2, 1, 2/3$, extending the previous research for $s=0, 2$. We derive an analytic full tower of the pole-skipping points of fermionic ($s=1/2$) and vector ($s=1$) fields by the exact holographic Green's functions. For the \textit{non-extremal} black hole, the leading pole-skipping frequency is $\omega_{\text{leading}}=2\pi i T_h {(s-1+\nu \Omega)}/{(1-\Omega^2)}$ where $T_h$ is the temperature, $\Omega$ the rotation, and $\nu:=(\Delta_+ - \Delta_-)/2$, the difference of conformal dimensions ($\Delta_{\pm}$). These are confirmed by another independent method: the near-horizon analysis. For the \textit{extremal} black hole, we find that the leading pole-skipping frequency can occur at $\omega_{\text{leading}}^{\text{extremal}}=-2\pi i T_R {(s+1)}$ only when $\nu = s+1$, where $T_R$ is the temperature of the right moving mode. It is non-trivial because it cannot be achieved by simply taking the extreme limit ($T_h\rightarrow 0\,, \Omega\rightarrow 1$) of the non-extremal black hole result., Comment: 41 pages

In this work, we investigate spectral complexity and Krylov complexity in quantum billiard systems at finite temperature. We study both circle and stadium billiards as paradigmatic examples of integrable and non-integrable quantum-mechanical systems, respectively. We show that the saturation value and time scale of spectral complexity may be used to probe the non-integrability of the system since we find that when computed for the circle billiard, it saturates at a later time scale compared to the stadium billiards. This observation is verified for different temperatures. Furthermore, we study the Krylov complexity of the position operator and its associated Lanczos coefficients at finite temperature using the Wightman inner product. We find that the growth rate of the Lanczos coefficients saturates the conjectured universal bound at low temperatures. Additionally, we also find that even a subset of the Lanczos coefficients can potentially serve as an indicator of integrability, as they demonstrate erratic behavior specifically in the circle billiard case, in contrast to the stadium billiard. We investigate the entanglement between the eternal black hole and Hawking radiation. For this purpose, we utilize the doubly holographic theories and study the entanglement entropy of the radiation to find the Page curve consistent with the unitarity principle. Doubly holographic theories introduce two types of boundaries in the AdS bulk, namely the usual AdS boundary and the Planck brane. In such a setup, we calculate the entanglement entropy by examining two extremal surfaces: the Hartman-Maldacena (HM) surface and the island surface. The latter surface emerges when the island appears on the Planck brane. In this paper, we provide a detailed analysis of dyonic black holes with regard to the Page curve in the context of the doubly holographic setup. To begin with, we ascertain that the pertinent topological terms must be included in the Planck brane to describe the systems at finite density and magnetic field. Furthermore, we also develop a general numerical method to compute the time-dependent HM surface and achieve excellent agreement between the numerical results and analytical expressions. Utilizing numerical methodology, we find that the entanglement entropy of dyonic black holes exhibits unitary evolution over time, wherein it grows in early time and reaches saturation after the Page time. The initial growth can be explained by the HM surface, while the saturation is attributed to the island surface. In addition, using the holographic entanglement density, we also show that, for the first time, the saturated value of the entanglement entropy is twice the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy with the tensionless brane in double holography., Comment: v1: 34 pages, 13 figures; v2: references added; v3: matching the published version

We represent the first investigation of pole-skipping on both the gravity and field theory sides. In contrast to the higher dimensional models, there is no momentum degree of freedom in $(1+1)-$dimensional bulk theory. Thus, we then consider a scalar field mass as our degree of freedom for the pole-skipping phenomenon instead of momentum. The pole-skipping frequencies of the scalar field in 2D gravity are the same as higher dimensional cases: $\omega=-i2\pi Tn$ for positive integers $n$. At each of these frequencies, there is a corresponding pole-skipping mass, so the pole-skipping points exist in $(\omega,m)$ space. We also compute the pole-skipping points of the SYK model in $(\omega, h)$ space where $h$ is the dimension of the bilinear primary operator. We find that there is a one-to-one correspondence of the pole-skipping points between the JT gravity and the SYK model. To obtain the pole-skipping points, we need to consider the parameter $\epsilon$ related to the chemical potential on the horizon of charged JT gravity and the particle-hole asymmetric parameter $\mathcal{E}$ of the complex SYK model as shift parameters. This highlights the $\epsilon-\mathcal{E}$ correspondence in relation to pole-skipping phenomenon.

In this work, we study Metal-Insulator transition in a holographic model containing an interaction between the order parameter and charge-carrier density. It turns out that the impurity density of this model can drive the phase transition whose ordered phase corresponds to the insulating phase. The temperature behavior of DC conductivity distinguishes the insulating phase from the metal phase. We confirm this behavior by a numerical method and an analytic calculation. The holographic superconductor is one of the most popular models in the context of applied holography. Despite what its name suggests, it does not describe a superconductor. On the contrary, the low temperature phase of its dual field theory is a superfluid with a spontaneously broken U(1) global symmetry. As already observed in the previous literature, a bona fide holographic superconductor can be constructed using mixed boundary conditions for the bulk gauge field. By exploiting this prescription, we study the near-equilibrium collective dynamics in the Higgs phase and reveal the characteristic features of the Anderson-Higgs mechanism. We show that second sound disappears from the spectrum and the gauge field acquires a finite energy gap of the order of the plasma frequency. We observe an overdamped to underdamped crossover for the Higgs mode which acquires a finite energy gap below $\approx T_c/2$, with $T_c$ the superconducting critical temperature. Interestingly, the energy gap of the Higgs mode at low temperature is significantly smaller than $2\Delta$, with $\Delta$ the superconducting energy gap. We study a notion of operator growth known as Krylov complexity in free and interacting massive scalar quantum field theories in $d$-dimensions at finite temperature. We consider the effects of mass, one-loop self-energy due to perturbative interactions, and finite ultraviolet cutoffs in continuous momentum space. These deformations change the behavior of Lanczos coefficients and Krylov complexity and induce effects such as the "staggering" of the former into two families, a decrease in the exponential growth rate of the latter, and transitions in their asymptotic behavior. We construct worldsheet traversable wormholes by considering the effects of a double-trace deformation, $\delta\mathcal{L}\sim h\partial\phi_L\partial\phi_R$, coupling the endpoints of an open string in AdS space. The operator deforming the theory is irrelevant and makes the boundaries bend inward toward the IR. This effect, reminiscent of two-dimensional dilaton gravities, renders the teleportation protocol more efficient and facilitates the transfer of information between the members of the dual Bell pair. Within the framework of holography, the Einstein-Maxwell action with Dirichlet boundary conditions corresponds to a dual conformal field theory in presence of an external gauge field. Nevertheless, in many real-world applications, e.g., magnetohydrodynamics, plasma physics, superconductors, etc. dynamical gauge fields and Coulomb interactions are fundamental. In this work, we consider bottom-up holographic models at finite magnetic field and (free) charge density in presence of dynamical boundary gauge fields which are introduced using mixed boundary conditions. We numerically study the spectrum of the lowest quasi-normal modes and successfully compare the obtained results to magnetohydrodynamics theory in $2+1$ dimensions. Surprisingly, as far as the electromagnetic coupling is small enough, we find perfect agreement even in the large magnetic field limit. Our results prove that a holographic description of magnetohydrodynamics does not necessarily need higher-form bulk fields but can be consistently derived using mixed boundary conditions for standard gauge fields., Comment: 54 pages, 22 figures

We study the effects of conservation laws on wormholes that are made traversable by a double trace deformation. After coupling the two asymptotic boundaries of a maximally extended $(d+1)$ dimensional black brane geometry with $U(1)$ conserved current operators, we find that the quantum matter stress-energy tensor of the corresponding bulk gauge fields in the hydrodynamic limit violates the averaged null energy condition (ANEC), rendering the wormhole traversable. Applying our results to axionic two-sided black hole solutions, we discuss how the wormhole opening depends on the charge diffusion constant, how this affects the amount of information that can be sent through the wormhole, and possible implications for many-body quantum teleportation protocols involving conserved current operators., Comment: 31 pages, 8 figures, published version in PRD

We investigate the properties of the holographic entanglement entropy of the systems in which the $U(1)$ or the translational symmetry is broken \textit{spontaneously}. For this purpose, we define the entanglement density of the strip-subsystems and examine both the first law of entanglement entropy (FLEE) and the area theorem. We classify the conditions that FLEE and/or the area theorem obey and show that such a classification may be useful for characterizing the systems. We also find universalities from both FLEE and the area theorem. In the spontaneous symmetry breaking case, FLEE is always obeyed regardless of the type of symmetry: $U(1)$ or translation. For the translational symmetry, the area theorem is always violated when the symmetry is weakly broken, independent of the symmetry breaking patterns (explicit or spontaneous). We revisit the magneto-hydrodynamics in (2+1) dimensions and confirm that it is consistent with the quasi-normal modes of the (3+1) dimensional dyonic black holes in the most general set-up with finite density, magnetic field and wave vector. We investigate all possible modes (sound, shear, diffusion, cyclotron etc.) and their interplay. For the magneto-hydrodynamics we perform a complete and detailed analysis correcting some prefactors in the literature, which is important for the comparison with quasi-normal modes. For the quasi-normal mode computations in holography we identify the independent fluctuation variables of the dyonic black holes, which is nontrivial at finite density and magnetic field. As an application of the quasi-normal modes of the dyonic black holes we investigate a transport property, the diffusion constant. We find that the diffusion constant at finite density and magnetic field saturates the lower bound at low temperature. The pole-skipping phenomenon has been proposed as a connection between chaotic properties of black hole geometries and special points where regular solutions of linearized Einstein equations at horizons have extra free parameters. In this work, we pursue the special points in the near-horizon analysis of integer spin-$\ell$ fields on the Rindler-AdS black hole. We construct linear combinations of field components to simplify coupled equations of massive fields and investigate towers of the special points along with imaginary Matsubara frequencies $i\omega=2\pi(n+1-\ell)T$ with a non-negative integer $n$ and the Hawking temperature $T$. We also propose that integrals of spin-$\ell$ bulk propagators over horizons of static black holes capture behaviors at the special points, which are generalizations of integrals of graviton propagators for shock wave geometries. Homes' law, $\rho_{s} = C \, \sigma_{DC} \, T_{c}$, is a universal relation of superconductors between the superfluid density $\rho_{s}$ at zero temperature, the critical temperature $T_{c}$ and the electric DC conductivity $\sigma_{DC}$ at $T_c$. Experimentally, Homes' law is observed in high $T_c$ superconductors with linear-$T$ resistivity in the normal phase, giving a material independent universal constant $C$. By using holographic models related to the Gubser-Rocha model, we investigate how Homes' law can be realized together with linear-$T$ resistivity in the presence of momentum relaxation. We investigate the upper bound of charge diffusion constant in holography. For this purpose, we apply the conjectured upper bound proposal related to the equilibration scales ($\omega_{\text{eq}}, k_{\text{eq}}$) to the Einstein-Maxwell-Axion model. ($\omega_{\text{eq}}, k_{\text{eq}}$) is defined as the collision point between the diffusive hydrodynamic mode and the first non-hydrodynamic mode, giving rise to the upper bound of the diffusion constant $D$ at low temperature $T$ as $D = \omega_{\text{eq}}/k_{\text{eq}}^2$. We show that the upper bound proposal also works for the charge diffusion and ($\omega_{\text{eq}}, k_{\text{eq}}$), at low $T$, is determined by $D$ and the scaling dimension $\Delta(0)$ of an infra-red operator as $(\omega_{\text{eq}}, \, k_{\text{eq}}^2) \,=\, (2 \pi T \Delta(0) \,, \omega_{\text{eq}}/D)$, as for other diffusion constants. However, for the charge diffusion, we find that the collision occurs at real $k_{\text{eq}}$, while it is complex for other diffusions. In order to examine the universality of the conjectured upper bound, we also introduce a higher derivative coupling to the Einstein-Maxwell-Axion model. This coupling is particularly interesting since it leads to the violation of the \textit{lower} bound of the charge diffusion constant so the correction may also have effects on the \textit{upper} bound of the charge diffusion. We investigate the Page curve for a non-standard black hole which is asymptotically non-flat/AdS/dS. For this purpose, we apply the island prescription to the charged linear dilaton black holes and analyze, in detail, the entanglement entropy of Hawking radiation for both the non-extremal case and the extremal case. In the non-extremal case, we find the Page curve consistent with the unitarity principle: at early times the entanglement entropy grows linearly in time without the island and at late times it is saturated double of the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy in the presence of the island. We observe the Page time is universal for all different models studied by our method: $t_{\text{Page}}=\frac{3}{ \pi c}\frac{S_{\text{BH}}}{T_H}.$ For the extremal case, the island prescription provides the well defined entanglement entropy only with the island, which can not be obtained from the continuous limit of the non-extremal case. We study a holographic construction of conformal blocks in the Regge limit of four-point scalar correlation functions by using coordinates of the two-sided Rindler-AdS black hole. As a generalization of geodesic Witten diagrams, we construct diagrams with four external scalar fields in the Rindler-AdS black hole by integrating over two half-geodesics between the centers of Penrose diagrams and points at the AdS boundary. We demonstrate that late-time behaviors of the diagrams coincide with the Regge behaviors of conformal blocks. We also point out their relevance with the pole-skipping phenomena by showing that the near-horizon analysis of symmetric traceless fields with any integer spin in the Rindler-AdS black hole can capture the Regge behaviors of conformal blocks., Comment: 32 pages, 4 figures. v2: minor corrections, references added

We investigate the breakdown of magneto-hydrodynamics at low temperature ($T$) with black holes whose extremal geometry is AdS$_2\times$R$^2$. The breakdown is identified by the equilibration scales ($\omega_{\text{eq}}, k_{\text{eq}}$) defined as the collision point between the diffusive hydrodynamic mode and the longest-lived non-hydrodynamic mode. We show ($\omega_{\text{eq}}, k_{\text{eq}}$) at low $T$ is determined by the diffusion constant $D$ and the scaling dimension $\Delta(0)$ of an infra-red operator: $\omega_{\text{eq}} = 2\pi T \Delta(0), \, k_{\text{eq}}^2 = \omega_{\text{eq}}/D$, where $\Delta(0)=1$ in the presence of magnetic fields. For the purpose of comparison, we have analytically shown $\Delta(0)=2$ for the axion model independent of the translational symmetry breaking pattern (explicit or spontaneous), which is complementary to previous numerical results. We investigate the properties of pole-skipping of the sound channel in which the translational symmetry is broken explicitly or spontaneously. For this purpose, we analyze, in detail, not only the holographic axion model, but also the magnetically charged black holes with two methods: the near-horizon analysis and quasi-normal mode computations. We find that the pole-skipping points are related with the chaotic properties, Lyapunov exponent ($\lambda_L$) and butterfly velocity ($v_B$), independently of the symmetry breaking patterns. We show that the diffusion constant ($D$) is bounded by $D \,\geqslant\, v_{B}^2/\lambda_{L}$, where $D$ is the energy diffusion (crystal diffusion) bound for explicit (spontaneous) symmetry breaking. It is assumed that the holographic complexities such as the complexity-action (CA) and the complexity-volume (CV) conjecture are dual to complexity in field theory. However, because the definition of the complexity in field theory is still not complete, the confirmation of the holographic duality of the complexity is ambiguous. To improve this situation, we approach the problem from a different angle. We first identify minimal and genuin properties that the filed theory dual of the holographic complexity should satisfy without assuming anything from the circuit complexity or the information theory. Based on these properties, we propose a field theory formula dual to the holographic complexity. Our field theory formula implies that the complexity between certain states in two dimensional CFTs is given by the Liouville action, which is compatible with the path-integral complexity. It gives natural interpretations for both the CA and CV conjectures and identify what their reference states are. We study higher-dimensional traversable wormholes in the context of Rindler-AdS/CFT. The hyperbolic slicing of a pure AdS geometry can be thought of as a topological black hole that is dual to a conformal field theory in the hyperbolic space. The maximally extended geometry contains two exterior regions (the Rindler wedges of AdS) which are connected by a wormhole. We show that this wormhole can be made traversable by a double trace deformation that violates the average null energy condition (ANEC) in the bulk. We find an analytic formula for the ANEC violation that generalizes Gao-Jafferis-Wall result to higher-dimensional cases, and we show that the same result can be obtained using the eikonal approximation. We show that the bound on the amount of information that can be transferred through the wormhole quickly reduces as we increase the dimensionality of spacetime. We also compute a two-sided commutator that diagnoses traversability and show that, under certain conditions, the information that is transferred through the wormhole propagates with butterfly speed $v_B = \frac{1}{d-1}$., Comment: 36 pages, 10 figures

We study scalar and vector exchange terms in out-of-time-order correlators (OTOCs) holographically. By applying a computational method in graviton exchange, we analyze exponential behaviors in scalar and vector exchange terms at late times. We show that their exponential behaviors in simple holographic models are related to pole-skipping points obtained from the near-horizon equations of motion of scalar and vector fields. We clarify general mathematical and physical properties of pole-skipping points. For this purpose, we analyse scalar and vector fields in hyperbolic space. This setup is chosen because it is simple enough to allow us to obtain analytical expressions for the Green's function and check everything explicitly, while it contains all the essential features of pole-skipping points. We classify pole-skipping points in three types (type-I, II, III). Type-I and Type-II are distinguished by the (limiting) behavior of the Green's function near the pole-skipping points. Type-III can arise at non-integer $i\omega$ values, which is due to a specific UV condition, contrary to the types I and II, which are related to a non-unique near-horizon boundary condition. We also clarify the relation between the pole-skipping structure of the Green's function and the near-horizon analysis. We explore quantum phase transitions using two probes of quantum chaos: out-of-time-order correlators (OTOCs) and the $r$-parameter obtained from the level spacing statistics. In particular, we address $p$-spin models associated with quantum annealing or reverse annealing. Quantum annealing triggers first-order or second-order phase transitions, which is crucial for the performance of quantum devices. We find that the time-averaging OTOCs for the ground state and the average $r$-parameter change behavior around the corresponding transition points, diagnosing the phase transition. In this paper we study a hysteric phase transition from weak localization phase to hysteric magnetoconductance phase using gauge/gravity duality. This hysteric phase is triggered by a spontaneous magnetization related to Z2 symmetry and time reversal symmetry in a 2+1 dimensional system with momentum relaxation. We derive thermoelectric conductivity formulas describing non-hysteric and hysteric phases. At low temperatures, this magneto-conductance shows similar phase transitions of topological insulator surface states. We also obtain hysteresis curves of Seebeck coefficient and Nernst signal. It turns out that our impurity parameter changes magnetic properties of the dual system. We provide a detailed examination of a thermal out-of-time-order correlator (OTOC) growing exponentially in time in systems without chaos. The system is a one-dimensional quantum mechanics with a potential whose part is an inverted harmonic oscillator. We numerically observe the exponential growth of the OTOC when the temperature is higher than a certain threshold. The Lyapunov exponent is found to be of the order of the classical Lyapunov exponent generated at the hilltop, and it remains non-vanishing even at high temperature. We adopt various shape of the potential and find these features universal. The study confirms that the exponential growth of the thermal OTOC does not necessarily mean chaos when the potential includes a local maximum. We synthesize a series of CVD h-BN films and perform critical infrared spectroscopic characterization. For high-temperature (HT, Temp = 1400 degrees) grown h-BN thin film only E1u-mode infrared phonon is activated demonstrating highly aligned 2D h-BN planes over large area, whereas low-temperature (LT, Temp = 1000 degrees) grown film shows two phonon peaks, E1u and A2u, due to stacking of h-BN plane at tilted angle. For CVD graphene transferred on HT h-BN/SiO2/Si substrate, interband transition spectrum s1 shifts strongly to lower energy compared with that on LT h-BN/SiO2/Si and on bare SiO2/Si substrate, revealing that residual carrier density n in graphene is suppressed by use of HT h-BN layer. Also the interband transition width of s1 defined by effective temperature is reduced from 400 K for G/SiO2/Si to 300 K for HT h-BN/SiO2/Si. The behaviors of n and effective temperature show that HT h-BN film can decouple CVD graphene from the impurity and defect of SiO2 leading to large scale free-standing like graphene., Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures

Learning vector calculus techniques is one of the major missions to be accomplished by physics undergraduates. However, beginners report various difficulties dealing with the index notation due to its bulkiness. Meanwhile, there have been graphical notations for tensor algebra that are intuitive and effective in calculations and can serve as a quick mnemonic for algebraic identities. Although they have been introduced and applied in vector algebra in the educational context, to the best of our knowledge, there have been no publications that employ the graphical notation to three-dimensional Euclidean vector calculus, involving differentiation and integration of vector fields. Aiming for physics students and educators, we introduce such "graphical vector calculus," demonstrate its pedagogical advantages, and provide enough exercises containing both purely mathematical identities and practical calculations in physics. The graphical notation can readily be utilized in the educational environment to not only lower the barriers in learning and practicing vector calculus but also make students interested and self-motivated to manipulate the vector calculus syntax and heuristically comprehend the language of tensors by themselves., Comment: 11 pages, 2 figures

We study (fermionic) spectral functions in two holographic models, the Gubser-Rocha-linear axion model and the linear axion model, where translational symmetry is broken by axion fields linear to the boundary coordinates ($\psi_{I}=\beta \delta_{Ii} x^{i}$). Here, $\beta$ corresponds to the strength of momentum relaxation. The spectral function is computed by the fermionic Green's function of the bulk Dirac equation, where a fermion mass, $m$, and a dipole coupling, $p$, are introduced as input parameters. By classifying the shape of spectral functions, we construct complete phase diagrams in ($m,p,\beta$) space for both models. We find that two phase diagrams are similar even though their background geometries are different. We also find that the effect of momentum relaxation on the (spectral function) phases of two models are similar even though the effect of momentum relaxation on the DC conductivities of two models are very different. We study the holographic duality between the reflected entropy and the entanglement wedge cross section with the first order correction. In the field theory side, we consider the reflected entropy for $\rho_{AB}^m$, where $\rho_{AB}$ is the reduced density matrix for two intervals in the ground state. The reflected entropy in the 2d holographic conformal field theories is computed perturbatively up to the first order in $m-1$ by using the semiclassical conformal block. In the gravity side, we compute the entanglement wedge cross section in the backreacted geometry by cosmic branes with tension $T_m$ which are anchored at the AdS boundary. The linear-$T$ resistivity is one of the hallmarks of various strange metals regardless of their microscopic details. Towards understanding this universal property, the holographic method or gauge/gravity duality has made much progress. Most holographic models have focused on the low temperature limit, where the linear-$T$ resistivity has been explained by the infrared geometry. We extend this analysis to high temperature and identify the conditions for a robust linear-$T$ resistivity up to high temperature. This extension is important because, in experiment, the linear-$T$ resistivity is observed in a large range of temperatures, up to room temperature. In the axion-dilaton theories we find that, to have a robust linear-$T$ resistivity, the strong momentum relaxation is a necessary condition, which agrees with the previous result for the Guber-Rocha model. However, it is not sufficient in the sense that, among large range of parameters giving a linear-$T$ resistivity in low temperature limit, only very limited parameters can support the linear-$T$ resistivity up to high temperature even in strong momentum relaxation. A finite Schottky barrier and large contact resistance between monolayer MoS2 and electrodes are the major bottlenecks in developing high-performance field-effect transistors (FETs) that hinder the study of intrinsic quantum behaviors such as valley-spin transport at low temperature. A gate-tunable graphene electrode platform has been developed to improve the performance of MoS2 FETs. However, intrinsic misalignment between the work function of pristine graphene and the conduction band of MoS2 results in a large threshold voltage for the FETs, because of which Ohmic contact behaviors are observed only at very high gate voltages and carrier concentrations (~1013 cm-2). Here, we present high-performance monolayer MoS2 FETs with Ohmic contact at a modest gate voltage by using a chemical-vapor-deposited (CVD) nitrogen-doped graphene with a high intrinsic electron carrier density. The CVD nitrogen-doped graphene and monolayer MoS2 hybrid FETs platform exhibited a large negative shifted threshold voltage of -54.2 V and barrier-free Ohmic contact under zero gate voltage. Transparent contact by nitrogen-doped graphene led to a 214% enhancement in the on-current and a four-fold improvement in the field-effect carrier mobility of monolayer MoS2 FETs compared with those of a pristine graphene electrode platform. The transport measurements, as well as Raman and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analyses before and after thermal annealing, reveal that the atomic C-N bonding in the CVD nitrogen-doped graphene is responsible for the dominant effects of electron doping. We study the scrambling properties of $(d+1)$-dimensional hyperbolic black holes. Using the eikonal approximation, we calculate out-of-time-order correlators (OTOCs) for a Rindler-AdS geometry with AdS radius $\ell$, which is dual to a $d-$dimensional conformal field theory (CFT) in hyperbolic space with temperature $T = 1/(2 \pi \ell)$. We find agreement between our results for OTOCs and previously reported CFT calculations. For more generic hyperbolic black holes, we compute the butterfly velocity in two different ways, namely: from shock waves and from a pole-skipping analysis, finding perfect agreement between the two methods. It is often said that interactions destroy the particle nature of excitations. We report that, in holographic theory adding interaction term can create a new quasi particle spectrum, on the contrary. We show this by calculating the optical conductivity in a model with exact background solution and finding a new quasi-particle spectrum. We argue that such new poles are generic consequence of any non-minimal interaction like Chern-Simon term. The interaction driven metal-insulator transition and the pinning effect in holography are examples of this phenomena. We study the structure constant of a single trace operator and two determinant operators in ${\cal N}=4$ super Yang-Mills theory. Holographically such a quantity corresponds to the interaction vertex between a closed string and two open strings attached to the spherical $D$-branes. Relying on diagrammatic intuition, we conjecture that the structure constant at the finite coupling is nicely written by the hexagon form factors. Precisely we need to prepare two hexagon twist operators and appropriately glue edges together by integrating mirror particles contributions and by contracting boundary states. The gluing generates the worldsheet for a closed string and two open strings attached to the $D$-branes. At the weak coupling, the asymptotic expression simply reduces to sum over all possible partitions not only for the edge related to the closed string but also for the edges representing the half of the open string together with reflection effects for the opposite open string edges. We study the time evolution of the entanglement entropy after quantum quenches in Lifshitz free scalar theories, with the dynamical exponent $z>1$, by using the correlator method. For quantum quenches we consider two types of time-dependent mass functions: end-critical-protocol (ECP) and cis-critical-protocol (CCP). In both cases, at early times the entanglement entropy is independent of the subsystem size. After a critical time ($t_c$), the entanglement entropy starts depending on the subsystem size significantly. This critical time $t_c$ for $z = 1$ in the fast ECP and CCP has been explained well by the fast quasi-particle of the quasi-particle picture. However, we find that for $z > 1$ this explanation does not work and $t_c$ is delayed. We explain why $t_c$ is delayed for $z>1$ based on the quasiparticle picture: in essence, it is due to the competition between the fast and slow quasiparticles. At late times, in the ECP, the entanglement entropy slowly increases while, in the CCP, it is oscillating with a well defined period by the final mass scale, independently of $z$. We give an interpretation of this phenomena by the correlator method. We study the entanglement entropy (EE) and the R\'{e}nyi entropy (RE) of multiple intervals in two-dimensional $T\overline{T}$-deformed conformal field theory (CFT) at finite temperature by field theoretic and holographic methods. First, by the replica method with the twist operators, we construct the general formula of the RE and EE up to the first order of a deformation parameter. By using our general formula, we show that the EE of multiple intervals for a holographic CFT is just a summation of the single interval case even with the small deformation. This is a non-trivial consequence from the field theory perspective, though it may be expected by the Ryu-Takayanagi formula in holography. However, the deformed RE of the two intervals is a summation of the single interval case only if the separations between the intervals are big enough. It can be understood by the tension of the cosmic branes dual to the RE. We also study the holographic EE for single and two intervals with an arbitrary cut-off radius (dual to the $T\overline{T}$ deformation) at any temperature. We confirm our holographic results agree with the field theory results with a small deformation and high temperature limit, as expected. For two intervals, there are two configurations for EE: disconnected ($s$-channel) and connected ($t$-channel) ones.
