We consider the planar family of rigid systems of the form $x'=-y+xP(x,y), y'=x+yP(x,y)$, where $P$ is any polynomial with monomials of degree one and three. This is the simplest non-trivial family of rigid systems with no rotatory parameters. The family can be compactified to the Poincar\'e sphere such that the vector field along the equator is not identically null. We study the rational solutions of the Abel equation $x'=A(t)x^3+B(t)x^2$ where $A,B\in C[t]$. We prove that if $deg(A)$ is even or $deg(B)>(deg(A)-1)/2$ then the equation has at most two rational solutions. For any other case, an upper bound on the number of rational solutions is obtained. Moreover, we prove that if there are more than $(deg(A)+1)/2$ rational solutions then the equation admits a Darboux first integral., Comment: 19 pages

More than five hundred years ago Leonardo Da Vinci found a pattern in the growth of trees nowadays known as the Leonardo's rule. This rule relates the thickness of the stem with the thickness of the branches at different bifurcation stages in a Pythagorean fashion. He argued that his rule was the result of the conservation of sap flux. In the present work, we explore this idea by assuming that the sap flux through each xylem element behaves as a non-ideal fluid and the size-distribution of the xylem elements obeys a power law distribution. We find that the simultaneous fulfillment of Leonardo's rule and the conservation of the sap flux, lead to a global behavior of the sap like that of an ideal fluid after summing over all xylem elements. These results are supported by field and experimental work. In particular, we corroborated the Leonardo's rule in different tree species by measuring the stem-branches thickness at different bifurcations stages. We also determined the statistical size-distribution of the xylem elements through a maceration process, finding that it corresponds to a power law distribution with an exponent close to three, which is the exponent required for the Leonardo's rule. Following Chakrabarti,Chandrasekhar, and Naina [Physica A {\bf 389} (2010) 1571], we attempt a classical relativistic treatment of Verlinde's emergent entropic force conjecture by appealing to a relativistic Hamiltonian in the context of Tsalli's statistics. The ensuing partition function becomes the classical one for small velocities. We show that Tsallis' relativistic (classical) free particle distribution at temperature $T$ can generate Newton's gravitational force's $r^{-2}$ {\it distance's dependence}. If we want to repeat the concomitant argument by appealing to Renyi's distribution, the attempt fails and one needs to modify the conjecture.
