We establish new mean curvature rigidity theorems of spin fill-ins with non-negative scalar curvature using two different spinorial techniques. Our results address two questions by Miao and Gromov, respectively. The first technique is based on extending boundary spinors satisfying a generalized eigenvalue equation via the Fredholm alternative for an APS boundary value problem, while the second is a comparison result in the spirit of Llarull and Lott using index theory. We also show that the latter implies a new Witten-type integral inequality for the mass of an asymptotically Schwarzschild manifold which holds even when the scalar curvature is not assumed to be non-negative., Comment: 20 pages

We propose our account of the meaning of local symmetries. We argue that the general covariance principle and gauge principle both are principles of democratic epistemic access to the law of physics, leading to ontological insights about the objective nature of spacetime. Every signal propagating through the universe is diffracted by the gravitational fields of intervening objects, aka gravitational lenses. Diffraction is most efficient when caused by compact lenses, which invariably produce additional images of a source. The signals associated with additional images are generically faint, but their collective effect may be detectable with coherent sources, such as gravitational waves (GWs), where both amplitude and phase are measured. Here, I describe lens stochastic diffraction (LSD): Poisson-distributed fluctuations after GW events caused by compact lenses. The amplitude and temporal distribution of these signals encode crucial information about the mass and abundance of compact lenses. Through the collective stochastic signal, LSD offers an order-of-magnitude improvement over single lens analysis for objects with mass $\gtrsim 10^3 M_\odot$. This gain can improve limits on compact dark-matter halos and allows next-generation instruments to detect supermassive black holes, given the abundance inferred from quasar luminosity studies., Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures. Einstein's field equations with a background source term that induces perturbations and the applications of this new formalism to a compact dense matter relativistic star are presented. We introduce a new response kernel in the field equations between the metric and fluid perturbations. A source term which drives or induces the sub-hydro mesoscopic scales perturbations in the astrophysical system, is of importance here. Deterministic as well as stochastic perturbations for the radial case are worked out as solutions of field equations. We also touch upon polar perturbations that are deterministic with oscillatory parts. The stochastic perturbation are of significance in terms of two point or point separated correlations which form the building blocks for studying equilibrium and non-equilibrium statistical mechanics for the system. Our main aim is to build a theory for intermediate scale physics, for dense exotic matter and investigate structure of the compact astrophysical objects. Specifically, turbulence which connects various scales in superfluid matter in the dense stars is an area gaining importance. The work presented here is the starting point for new theoretical frame work that touches upon various yet unexplored scales where mechanical and dynamical effects interior to the matter of the star are of significance. Thus there is scope for extending studies in asteroseismology to mesoscopic effects at the new intermediate scales in the cold dense matter fluid . This is expected to enable us to probe astrophysical features at refined scales through theoretical formulations as well as for observational consequences.

We analyze the effective four-dimensional dynamics of the extra-dimensional moduli fields in curved braneworlds having nested warping, with particular emphasis on the doubly warped model which is interesting in the light of current collider constraints on the mass of the Kaluza-Klein graviton. The presence of a non-zero brane cosmological constant ($\Omega$) naturally induces an effective moduli potential in the four-dimensional action, which shows distinct features in dS ($\Omega>0$) and AdS ($\Omega<0$) branches. For the observationally interesting case of dS 4-branes, a metastable minimum in the potential arises along the first modulus, with no minima along the higher moduli. The underlying nested geometry also leads to interesting separable forms of the non-canonical kinetic terms in the Einstein frame, where the brane curvature directly impacts the kinetic properties of only the first modulus. We subsequently explore the ability of curved multiply warped geometries to drive inflation with an in-built exit mechanism, by assuming predominant slow roll along each modular direction on a case-by-case basis. We find slow roll on top of the metastable plateau along the first modular direction to be the most viable scenario, with the higher-dimensional moduli parametrically tuning the height of the potential without significant impact on the inflationary observables. On the other hand, while slow roll along the higher moduli can successfully inflate the background and eventually lead to an exit, consistency with observations seemingly requires unphysical hierarchies among the extra-dimensional radii, thus disfavouring such scenarios., Comment: 22 pages, 7 sets of figures, 1 table, comments welcome

We conduct a comprehensive study on spherical orbits around two types of black holes: Kerr-Newman black holes, which are charged, and Ghosh black holes, which are nonsingular. In this work, we consider both null and timelike cases of orbits. Utilizing the Mino formalism, all analytical solutions for the geodesics governing these orbits can be obtained. It turns out that all spherical photon orbits outside the black hole horizons are unstable. In the extremal cases of both models, we obtain the {\it photon boomerangs}. The existence of charge in the Kerr-Newman allows the orbits to transition between retrograde and prograde motions, and its increase tends to force the orbits to be more equatorial. On the other hand, the Ghosh black hole, characterized by a regular core and a lack of horizons in certain conditions, presents the possibility of observable stable spherical orbits in the so-called {\it no-horizon} condition. As the Ghosh parameter $k$ increases, trajectories tend to exhibit larger latitudinal oscillation amplitudes. We observe that as the Ghosh parameter $k$ increases the trajectories tend to have larger latitudinal oscillation amplitudes. Finally, we investigate the existence of {\it innermost stable spherical orbits} (ISSOs). Both black holes demonstrate the appearance of two branches of ISSO radii as a function of the Carter constant C. However, there are notable differences in their behavior: in the case of the Kerr-Newman black hole, the branches merge at a critical value, beyond which no ISSO exists, while for the Ghosh black hole, the transcendental nature of the metric function causes the branches to become complex at some finite distance., Comment: 50 pages, 23 figures, submitted to the EPJ C

We investigate a Schwarzschild metric exhibiting a signature change across the event horizon, which gives rise to what we term a Lorentzian-Euclidean black hole. The resulting geometry is regularized by employing the Hadamard partie finie technique, which allows us to prove that the metric represents a solution of vacuum Einstein equations. In this framework, we introduce the concept of atemporality as the dynamical mechanism responsible for the transition from a regime with a real-valued time variable to a new one featuring an imaginary time. We show that this mechanism prevents the occurrence of the singularity and, by means of the regularized Kretschmann invariant, we discuss in which terms atemporality can be considered as the characteristic feature of this black hole., Comment: 22 pages, 5 figures, accepted for publication in Phys. A Bayesian method is used in this extensive work to generate a large set of minimally constrained equations of state (EOSs) for matters in neutron stars (NS). These EOSs are analyzed for their correlations with key NS properties, such as the tidal deformability, radius, and maximum mass, within the mass range of $1.2-2M_\odot$. The observed connections between the pressure of $\beta$-equilibrated matter and the properties of neutron stars at different densities offer significant insights into the behavior of NS matter in a nearly model-independent manner. The study also examines the influence of various factors on the correlation of symmetry energy parameters, such as slope and curvature parameters at saturation density ($\rho_0=0.16 ~\text{fm}^{-3}$) with the tidal deformability and radius of neutron stars. This study investigates the robustness of the observed correlations by considering the distributions and interdependence of symmetry energy parameters. Furthermore, the utilization of Principal Component Analysis (PCA) is employed to unveil the complicated relationship between various nuclear matter parameters and properties of neutron stars. This analysis highlights the importance of employing multivariate analysis techniques in order to comprehend the variety in tidal deformability and radius observed across distinct masses of NS. In this paper, we explore the possibility of the formation of a traversable wormhole geometry in General Relativity sustained by particle creation mechanism. Gravitational particle creation mechanism is a thermodynamic approach to generate repulsive back-reaction gravitational effects through the thermodynamic creation of particles. This repulsive back-reaction pressure can be thought of as a source of sustaining a traversable wormhole. In the first part of this paper, we systematically model a wormhole geometry through the process of particle creation by assuming an inverse square variation law of particle creation pressure within the wormhole geometry, and the shape function for the wormhole is obtained, assuming the redshift function as constant and finite. The obtained shape function is found to adhere to the feasibility conditions (flaring out condition and asymptotic flatness condition) of a viable wormhole geometry. In the second part of the paper, again by assuming a constant and finite redshift function, we studied the radial evolutionary behaviour of the particle creation pressures for three commonly utilized toy shape-functions. The examination of the energy conditions namely the Null Energy Condition (NEC) and the Dominant Energy Condition (DEC) for all these models reveal that the NEC is violated for the shape-function derived from the first principles of particle creation mechanism, as well as for the toy shape functions. The DEC is however found to be satisfied for all the aforementioned cases. A hypothetical photon mass, $m_{\gamma}$, can produce a frequency-dependent vacuum dispersion of light, which leads to an additional time delay between photons with different frequencies when they propagate through a fixed distance. The dispersion measure--redshift measurements of fast radio bursts (FRBs) have been widely used to constrain the rest mass of the photon. However, all current studies analyzed the effect of the frequency-dependent dispersion for massive photons in the standard $\Lambda$CDM cosmological context. In order to alleviate the circularity problem induced by the presumption of a specific cosmological model based on the fundamental postulate of the masslessness of photons, here we employ a new model-independent smoothing technique, Artificial Neural Network (ANN), to reconstruct the Hubble parameter $H(z)$ function from 34 cosmic-chronometer measurements. By combining observations of 32 well-localized FRBs and the $H(z)$ function reconstructed by ANN, we obtain an upper limit of $m_{\gamma} \le 3.5 \times 10^{-51}\;\rm{kg}$, or equivalently $m_{\gamma} \le 2.0 \times 10^{-15}\;\rm{eV/c^2}$ ($m_{\gamma} \le 6.5 \times 10^{-51}\;\rm{kg}$, or equivalently $m_{\gamma} \le 3.6 \times 10^{-15}\;\rm{eV/c^2}$) at the $1\sigma$ ($2\sigma$) confidence level. Correlation functions are ubiquitous tools in quantum field theory from both a fundamental and a practical point of view. However, up to now their use in theories of quantum gravity beyond perturbative and asymptotically flat regimes has been limited, due to difficulties associated with diffeomorphism invariance and the dynamical nature of geometry. We present an analysis of a manifestly diffeomorphism-invariant, nonperturbative two-point curvature correlator in two-dimensional Lorentzian quantum gravity. It is based on the recently introduced quantum Ricci curvature and uses a lattice regularization of the full path integral in terms of causal dynamical triangulations. We discuss some of the subtleties and ambiguities in defining connected correlators in theories of dynamical geometry, and provide strong evidence from Monte Carlo simulations that the connected two-point curvature correlator in 2D Lorentzian quantum gravity vanishes. Apparent horizon plays an important role in numerical relativity as it provides a tool to characterize the existence and properties of black holes on three-dimensional spatial slices in 3+1 numerical spacetimes. Apparent horizon finders based on different techniques have been developed. In this paper, we revisit the apparent horizon finding problem in numerical relativity using multigrid-based algorithms. We formulate the nonlinear elliptic apparent horizon equation as a linear Poisson-type equation with a nonlinear source, and solve it using a multigrid algorithm with Gauss-Seidel line relaxation. A fourth order compact finite difference scheme in spherical coordinates is derived and employed to reduce the complexity of the line relaxation operator to a tri-diagonal matrix inversion. The multigrid-based apparent horizon finder developed in this work is capable of locating apparent horizons in generic spatial hypersurfaces without any symmetries. The finder is tested with both analytic data, such as Brill-Lindquist multiple black hole data, and numerical data, including off-centered Kerr-Schild data and dynamical inspiraling binary black hole data. The obtained results are compared with those generated by the current fastest finder AHFinderDirect (Thornburg, Class. Quantum Grav. 21, 743, 2003), which is the default finder in the open source code Einstein Toolkit. Our finder performs comparatively in terms of accuracy, and starts to outperform AHFinderDirect at high angular resolutions (\sim 1^\circ) in terms of speed. Our finder is also more flexible to initial guess, as opposed to the Newton's method used in AHFinderDirect. This suggests that the multigrid algorithm provides an alternative option for studying apparent horizons, especially when high resolutions are needed., Comment: 21 pages, 4 figures

We study the axial gravitational perturbations of slowly-rotating compact objects which are assumed to be supported by anisotropic fluids. We find that the gravitational perturbations decouple from the matter perturbations for axial sectors. We obtain a master wave equation whose potential is fully determined by the metric functions. This equation makes the calculations of gravitational QNMs for rotating compact objects extremely easy in specific background configurations., Comment: latex, 11 pages

Nested sampling parameter estimation differs from evidence estimation, in that it incurs an additional source of error. This error affects estimates of parameter means and credible intervals in gravitational wave analyses and beyond, and yet, it is typically not accounted for in standard error estimation methods. In this paper, we present two novel methods to quantify this error more accurately for any chain based nested sampler, using the additional likelihood calls made at runtime in producing independent samples. Using injected signals of black hole binary coalescences as an example, we first show concretely that the usual error estimation method is insufficient to capture the true error bar on parameter estimates. We then demonstrate how the extra points in the chains of chain based samplers may be carefully utilised to estimate this error correctly, and provide a way to check the accuracy of the resulting error bars. We investigate the notion of subsystem in the framework of spectral triple as a generalized notion of noncommutative submanifold. In the case of manifolds, we consider several conditions on Dirac operators which turn embedded submanifolds into isometric submanifolds. We then suggest a definition of spectral subtriple based on the notion of submanifold algebra and the already existing notions of Riemannian, isometric, and totally geodesic morphisms. The constant mass function foliation has been shown useful for studying the null Penrose inequality on a null hypersurface, because of the monotonicity formula of Hawking mass along such a foliation. In this paper, we show the global existence of the constant mass aspect function foliation on a nearly spherically symmetric incoming null hypersurface, emanating from a spacelike surface near the apparent horizon to the past null infinity in a vacuum perturbed Schwarzschild spacetime. Moreover, we study the geometry of the constant mass aspect function foliation, by comparing with the spherically symmetric foliation in the Schwarzschild spacetime. The knowledge about the geometry of the foliation is essential for investigating the perturbation of the constant mass aspect function foliation, which is the core in the application to the null Penrose inequality for a vacuum perturbed Schwarzschild spacetime., Comment: 110 pages

A quantum field has been coupled to a space-time with accelerating expansion. Dynamical modes are destabilised successively at shorter material wavelengths as they metamorphose from oscillators to repellers. Due to degeneracy of energy levels, the number of unstable modes increases at an accelerating rate, sufficient to account for a significant proportion of cosmic energy. For the subsystem spanned by a finite basis of unstable runaway modes, the quantum Hamiltonian is unbounded below. There is no Bogoliubov transformation by which that subsystem Hamiltonian can be expressed as a linear combination of number operators. For the remaining subsystem spanned by an infinite number of oscillator modes, there is an appropriate vacuum state in a Fock-Cook representation of the field algebra. The massless quantum vector field of electromagnetism is considered when it is minimally or more generally coupled to an expanding space-time. For a significant class of models, including minimal coupling models and the exponential de Sitter universe coupled to the Ricci curvature tensor, the field equations are equivalent to the Proca equation with time-dependent mass.

The pursuit of a comprehensive theory of gravity has led to the exploration of various alternative models, necessitating a model-independent framework. The Konoplya-Rezzolla-Zhidenko (KRZ) parameterization offers a robust method for approximating stationary axisymmetric black hole spacetimes, characterized by a rapidly converging continued-fraction expansion. However, while analytical metrics benefit from this approach, numerical metrics derived from complex gravitational theories remain presenting computational challenges. Bridging this gap, we propose a method for a numerical KRZ parameterization, tested and demonstrated on pseudo-numerical Kerr and Kerr-Sen spacetimes. Our approach involves constructing numerical grids to represent metric coefficients and using the grids for fitting the parameters up to an arbitrary order. We analyze the accuracy of our method across different orders of approximation, considering deviations in the metric functions and shadow images. In both Kerr and Kerr-Sen cases, we observe rapid convergence of errors with increasing orders of continued fractions, albeit with variations influenced by spin and charge. Our results underscore the potential of the proposed algorithm for parameterizing numerical metrics, offering a pathway for further investigations across diverse gravity theories.

In this thesis, we present the emergence of an $SL(2,R)$ ("Love") symmetry in the suitably defined near-zone region, relevant for studying the black hole response problem. This symmetry is globally defined and physical solutions of the black hole linearized field equations are closed under its action. The vanishing of static Love numbers is found to naturally arise as a selection rule following from the fact that the relevant solution belongs to a particular highest-weight representation of the Love symmetry. Interestingly, the Love symmetry appears to be connected to the well-known enhanced $SL(2,R)$ isometry subgroup of the near-horizon extremal geometry. Namely, the Love symmetry exactly reduces to the isometry of the near-horizon AdS$_2$ throat for extremal Reissner-Nordstr\"om black holes, while, for rotating black holes, one is lead to consider an infinite-dimensional $SL(2,R)\ltimes\hat{U}(1)_V$ extension of the Love symmetry, a family of subalgebras of which precisely recovers the Killing vectors of the corresponding AdS$_2$ throat in the extremal limit. Similar results persist when studying perturbations of general-relativistic black holes in higher dimensions. Even though the black hole static Love numbers now vanish only for a discrete set of resonant conditions that depends on the orbital number of the perturbation, Love symmetry exists independently of these details. This hints at a geometric interpretation of the Love symmetry; a statement that becomes more rigorous within the framework of subtracted geometries. However, Love symmetry appears to be theory-dependent. We extract, in particular, a sufficient geometric condition for its existence according to which, for instance, it does not exist in Riemann$^3$ gravity or some stringy-corrected low-energy effective gravitational actions, in accordance with explicit computations of the corresponding black hole Love numbers., Comment: 215+36 pages, 12 figures, 9 tables, Ph.D. Thesis

This work introduces a novel prescription for the expression of the thermodynamic potentials associated with the couplings of a Lanczos-Lovelock theory. These potentials emerge in theories with multiple couplings, where the ratio between them provide intrinsic length scales that break scale invariance. Our prescription, derived from the covariant phase space formalism, differs from previous approaches by enabling the construction of finite potentials without reference to any background. To do so, we consistently work with finite-size systems with Dirichlet boundary conditions and rigorously take into account boundary and corner terms: including these terms is found to be crucial for relaxing the integrability conditions for phase space quantities that were required in previous works. We apply this prescription to the first law of (extended) thermodynamics for stationary black holes, and derive a version of the Smarr formula that holds for static black holes with arbitrary asymptotic behaviour., Comment: 38 pages, 2 figures

The expansion and upgrade of the global network of ground-based gravitational wave detectors promises to improve our capacity to infer the sky-localization of transient sources, enabling more effective multi-messenger follow-ups. At the same time, the increase in the signal-to-noise ratio of detected events allows for more precise estimates of the source parameters. This study aims to assess the performance of advanced-era networks of ground-based detectors, focusing on the Hanford, Livingston, Virgo, and KAGRA instruments. We use full Bayesian parameter estimation procedures to predict the scientific potential of a network. Assuming a fixed LIGO configuration, we find that the addition of the Virgo detector is beneficial to the sky localization starting from a binary neutron star horizon distance of 20 Mpc and improves significantly from 40 Mpc onwards for both a single and double LIGO detector network, reducing the inferred mean sky-area by up to 95%. Similarly, the KAGRA detector tightens the constraints, starting from a sensitivity range of 10 Mpc. Looking at highly-spinning binary black holes, we find significant improvements with increasing sensitivity in constraining the intrinsic source parameters when adding Virgo to the two LIGO detectors. Finally, we also examine the impact of the low-frequency cut-off data on the signal-to-noise ratio. We find that existing 20 Hz thresholds are sufficient and propose a metric to monitor this to study detector performance. Our findings quantify how future enhancements in detector sensitivity and network configurations will improve the localization of gravitational wave sources and allow for more precise identification of their intrinsic properties.

We study the semi-classical limit of the recently proposed coherent spin foam model for (2+1) Lorentzian quantum gravity. Specifically, we analyze the gluing equations derived from the stationary phase approximation of the vertex amplitude. Typically these exhibit two solutions yielding a cosine of the Regge action. However, by inspection of the algebraic equations as well as their geometrical realization, we show in this note that the behavior is more nuanced: when all triangles are either spacelike or timelike, two solutions exist. In any other case, only a single solution is obtained, thus yielding a single Regge exponential., Comment: 5 pages, 2 figures

Accurate modeling of selection effects is a key ingredient to the success of gravitational-wave astronomy. The detection probability plays a crucial role in both statistical population studies, where it enters the hierarchical Bayesian likelihood, and astrophysical modeling, where it is used to convert predictions from population-synthesis codes into observable distributions. We review the most commonly used approximations, extend them, and present some recipes for a straightforward implementation. These include a closed-form expression capturing both multiple detectors and noise realizations written in terms of the so-called Marcum Q-function and a ready-to-use mapping between signal-to-noise ratio thresholds and false-alarm rates from state-of-the-art detection pipelines. The bias introduced by approximating the matched filter signal-to-noise ratio with the optimal signal-to-noise ratio is not symmetric: sources that are nominally below threshold are more likely to be detected than sources above threshold are to be missed. Using both analytical considerations and software injections in detection pipelines, we confirm that including noise realizations when estimating the selection function introduces an average variation of a few %. This effect is most relevant for large catalogs and specific subpopulations of sources at the edge of detectability (e.g. high redshifts)., Comment: 16 pages, 5 figures

In this letter, we show that the Semiclassical Einstein's Field Equation can be recovered using the generalized entropy $S_{gen}$. This approach is reminiscent of non-equilibrium thermodynamics. Furthermore, contrary to the entanglement equilibrium approach of deriving the semiclassical Einstein's equation, this approach does not require any such assumptions and still recovers its correct form. Therefore, in a sense, we also show the validity of the semiclassical approximation, a crucial approach for establishing a number of important ideas such as the Hawking effect.

In this paper, we study the relativistic correction to Bekenstein-Hawking entropy in the canonical ensemble and isothermal-isobaric ensemble and apply it to the cases of non-rotating BTZ and AdS-Schwarzschild black holes. This is realized by generalizing the equations obtained using Boltzmann-Gibbs(BG) statistics with its relativistic generalization, Kaniadakis statistics, or $\kappa$-statistics. The relativistic corrections are found to be logarithmic in nature and it is observed that their effect becomes appreciable in the high-temperature limit suggesting that the entropy corrections must include these relativistically corrected terms while taking the aforementioned limit. The non-relativistic corrections are recovered in the $\kappa\rightarrow 0$ limit.

We investigate the measurement correlation between the effective spin and the effective tidal deformability in gravitational wave signals from binary neutron star mergers. We exploit the fact that the tidal effects in a binary system are prominent when the components are closer during the late-inspiral. Thus, we indicate to a computationally efficient strategy of extracting the tidal information compressed within seconds before the merger. We report our observations for \texttt{GW170817} and explore the suitability of our approach for the upcoming observation scenarios. Fast and accurate measurements of the tidal deformability parameters can be used to inform astronomers in prioritizing the electromagnetic follow-up efforts for such sources.

We investigate the well-posedness of the characteristic initial-boundary value problem for the Einstein equations in Bondi-like coordinates (including Bondi, double-null and affine). We propose a definition of strong hyperbolicity of a system of partial differential equations of any order, and show that the Einstein equations in Bondi-like coordinates in their second-order form used in numerical relativity do not meet it, in agreement with results of Giannakopoulos et al for specific first-order reductions. In the principal part, frozen coefficient approximation that one uses to examine hyperbolicity, we explicitly construct the general solution to identify the solutions that obstruct strong hyperbolicity. Independently, we present a first-order symmetric hyperbolic formulation of the Einstein equations in Bondi gauge, linearised about Schwarzschild, thus completing work by Frittelli. This establishes an energy norm ($L^2$ in the metric perturbations and selected first and second derivatives), in which the initial-boundary value problem, with initial data on an outgoing null cone and boundary data on a timelike cylinder or an ingoing null cone, is well-posed, thus verifying a conjecture by Giannakopoulos et al. Recent surveys have been reporting bulk peculiar flows considerably faster than expected. Bulk flows are moving matter and matter in motion implies nonzero energy flux. In relativity, as opposed to Newtonian physics, matter fluxes gravitate as well, since they also contribute to the energy-momentum tensor. The gravitational input of the "peculiar" flux survives at the linear level and it can drastically change our understanding of the way bulk flows have evolved in time. By default, the Newtonian analysis of peculiar motions bypasses the relativistic flux-contribution to the gravitational field. The problem is that there are also studies, with an otherwise relativistic profile, which inadvertently do the same. As result, these treatments reduce to Newtonian and they misleadingly reproduce the slow Newtonian growth-rate of linear peculiar velocities. In contrast, by accounting for the flux effects, the proper relativistic analysis arrives at a considerably stronger growth. We show that it is the flux input of the moving matter to gravity that separates the relativistic studies of peculiar motions from the rest and, in so doing, it could provide an answer to the bulk-flow question., Comment: 9 pages, no figures

With the strong evidence for a gravitational wave (GW) background in the nanohertz frequency band from pulsar timing arrays, the detection of continuous GWs from individual supermassive black hole binaries is already at the dawn. Utilizing continuous GWs to test theories of gravity, especially to test the polarizations of GWs is becoming more and more realistic. In this theoretical study, assuming a detection of signals from individual supermassive binary black holes, we use the null stream to estimate the capability of identifying the nontensorial polarizations of GWs. We consider cases for the nontensorial polarizations where the dipole radiation and quadrupole radiation dominate separately. With a frequentist method, we estimate the threshold of the nontensor-to-tensor relative amplitude above which extra polarizations can be detected. We also conduct Bayesian analysis to do parameter estimation with the null stream data. In this paper, we introduce a metric ansatz for describing spherically symmetric quantum corrected black hole (BH) space-time within an AdS background, incorporating both ordinary and phantom global monopoles. Afterwards, we focus into the thermodynamic properties of this BH, calculating essential parameters such as the Hawking temperature and the specific heat capacity. Moving forward, we analyze the effective potential of the system for both null and time-like geodesics, as well as the shadow radius of the BH. Additionally, we compute the emission rate of particles from this BH. Finally, we explore the geodesic equations of motion and visualize the trajectories of massive particles within the BH. Throughout our investigation, we examine how the presence of ordinary and phantom global monopoles, alongside the quantum corrected parameter, influences various thermal properties, the effective potential of the system, the BH shadow radius, energy emission rate, and the trajectories of massive particles. Importantly, through the generation of figures depicting these phenomena, we highlight the distinctions between results obtained with ordinary global monopoles and phantom ones, across a range of quantum corrected parameter values considering small values of the energy scale parameter., Comment: 20 Pages, 17 Figures, 2 Tables

The Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) has revolutionized our ability to study black holes by providing unprecedented spatial resolution and unveiling horizon-scale details. With advancements leading to the next-generation EHT, there is potential to probe even deeper into the black hole's dark region, especially the inner shadow characterized by low-intensity foreground emissions from the jet, thanks to a significant enhancement in dynamic range by two orders of magnitude. Accurate information from gravitational wave signals from coalescing binary neutron stars provides essential input to downstream interpretations, including inference of the neutron star population and equation of state. However, even adopting the currently most accurate and physically motivated models available for parameter estimation (PE) of BNSs, these models remain subject to waveform modeling uncertainty: differences between these models may introduce biases in recovered source properties. In this work, we describe injection studies investigating these systematic differences between the two best waveform models available for BNS currently, NRHybSur3dq8Tidal and TEOBResumS. The generalized Lefschetz thimble method is a promising approach that attempts to solve the sign problem in Monte Carlo methods by deforming the integration contour using the flow equation. Here we point out a general problem that occurs due to the property of the flow equation, which extends a region on the original contour exponentially to a region on the deformed contour. Since the growth rate for each eigenmode is governed by the singular values of the Hessian of the action, a huge hierarchy in the singular value spectrum, which typically appears for large systems, leads to various technical problems in numerical simulations. We solve this hierarchical growth problem by preconditioning the flow so that the growth rate becomes identical for every eigenmode. As an example, we show that the preconditioned flow enables us to investigate the real-time quantum evolution of an anharmonic oscillator with the system size that can hardly be achieved by using the original flow., Comment: 35 pages, 5 figures

Symmetric teleparallel gravity (STG) is a gravity theory which takes non-metricity tensor to describe gravity effects. In the STG framework, we study the conformal equivalent scalar-tensor theory of f(Q) model and calculate the cosmological linear perturbations of the conformal transformed action. We confirm the result already present in references that f(Q) gravity shows different degrees of freedom on different backgrounds at linear perturbation level. A binary stellar system that ventures too close to a supermassive black hole can become tidally separated. In this article, we investigate the role of relativistic effects in these encounters through 3-body simulations. We use the Hybrid Relativistic-Newtonian Approximation (HRNA), which combines the exact relativistic acceleration from a Schwarzschild black hole with a Newtonian description of the binary's self-gravity. This method is compared against Newtonian and Post-Newtonian (1PN) simulations. Our findings show good agreement between HRNA and 1PN results, both of which exhibit substantial differences from Newtonian simulations. This discrepancy is particularly pronounced in retrograde encounters, where relativistic simulations predict up to $30\%$ more separation events and an earlier onset of binary separation ($\beta=2$ compared to $2.5$ in Newtonian simulations, with $\beta$ the impact parameter). Additionally, the HRNA model predicts about 15$\%$ more potential extreme mass ratio inspirals and generate a higher number of hypervelocity star candidates, with velocities up to 2,000 km/s faster than those predicted from Newtonian simulations. Furthermore, compared to Newtonian cases, relativistic encounters are more likely to result in direct stellar collisions and binary mergers., Comment: Submitted for publication

Gravitational waves from condensates of ultra-light particles, such as axion, around rotating black holes are a promising probe to search for unknown physics. For this purpose, we need to characterize the signal to detect the gravitational waves, which requires tracking the evolution of the condensates, including various effects. The axion self-interaction causes the non-linear coupling between the superradiant modes, resulting in complicated branching of evolution. Most studies so far have considered evolution under the non-relativistic approximation or the two-mode approximation. In this paper, we numerically investigate the evolution of the axion condensate without these approximations, taking higher multipole modes into account. We also investigate the possible signature in gravitational waves from the condensate. We show that the higher multipole modes are excited, leading to the gravitational wave signal by the transition of the axion between different levels. The most prominent signal of gravitational waves arises from the transition between modes with their angular quantum numbers different by two. The gravitational wave signal is emitted in the deci-Hz band for stellar mass black holes, which might be observable with the future gravitational wave detectors., Comment: 19 pages, 17 figures

In the framework of black hole perturbation theory, this work investigates the standing wave solutions in Reissner-Nordtsr\"om (RN) anti-de Sitter (AdS) spacetimes with a naked singularity. These solutions can be viewed as a specific class of quasinormal modes exhibiting distinct characteristics. The imaginary parts of their frequencies are numerically vanishing, allowing them to persist over an extended period. Besides, these modes are predominantly stationary in terms of the evolution of spacetime waveforms. The numerical calculations are carried out employing the finite difference method, and the quasinormal frequencies extracted by the Prony method are shown to be consistent with those obtained using the matrix method. The obtained waveforms and quasinormal frequencies are shown to be drastically different from those of an extreme RN-AdS black hole. As the quasinormal modes are primarily dissipative, the non-dissipative standing waves are attributed to the nature that the singularity can neither be a sink nor a source of the gravitational system., Comment: 15 pages and 8 figures

In this article, we investigate the impact of cosmological parameters on black holes using an exact solution to Einstein's equations that satisfies the Whittaker equation of state. We examine a spherically symmetric black hole in the background of a static Einstein Universe with a perfect fluid source with the cosmological constant. This solution is characterized by two independent parameters, namely the size of the universe~($R$) and the cosmological constant~(Lambda), representing the cosmological influences. We explore phenomena such as periastron precession and the scattering of massless scalar fields to determine how these cosmological parameters affect the physics around black holes.

Next-generation gravitational-wave detectors, such as the Einstein Telescope (ET), are expected to observe a few 100,000 signals each year. This will require efficient analysis tools and computational resources well beyond the needs of current detectors. Such resources are not presently available to the science community. Therefore, to investigate ET observational capabilities and science cases, Fisher-matrix methods are used to predict how precisely parameters like mass, spin, source distance or sky location can be estimated from ET data. The approach is based on a Gaussian approximation of the likelihood function. However, the reliability of error estimates obtained from Fisher-matrix methods remains an open question. In this article, we present a Fisher-matrix analysis of signals of the Gravitational Wave Transient Catalog (GWTC). We compare parameter-estimation errors obtained using the Fisher matrix code GWFish with the errors from the marginal distributions of the Virgo/LIGO posterior analysis. In order to understand the impact of prior distributions on the results, we implemented a Gaussian likelihood sampling algorithm with priors in GWFish. To ensure a fair comparison of the methods, the GWFish analyses presented in this article use the same priors and the same instrument-noise spectra as the Virgo/LIGO posterior analyses. It has been shown that entropy differences between certain states of perturbative quantum gravity can be computed without specifying an ultraviolet completion. This is analogous to the situation in classical statistical mechanics, where entropy differences are defined but absolute entropy is not. Unlike in classical statistical mechanics, however, the entropy differences computed in perturbative quantum gravity do not have a clear physical interpretation. Here we construct a family of perturbative black hole states for which the entropy difference can be interpreted as a relative counting of states. Conceptually, this paper begins with the algebra of mass fluctuations around a fixed black hole background, and points out that while this is a type I algebra, it is not a factor and therefore has no canonical definition of entropy. As in previous work, coupling the mass fluctuations to quantum matter embeds the mass algebra within a type II factor, in which entropy differences (but not absolute entropies) are well defined. It is then shown that for microcanonical wavefunctions of mass fluctuation, the type II entropy difference equals the logarithm of the dimension of the extra Hilbert space that is needed to map one microcanonical window to another using gauge-invariant unitaries. All black holes (BHs) in nature are expected to be described by the Kerr vacuum solution of general relativity. However, the Kerr solution comes with several difficulties such as the existence of Cauchy horizons, curvature singularities, and causality-violating regions. Attempts to resolve some of these issues include phenomenological BH models, which typically contain nontrivial matter content. We introduce a simple framework here to examine the properties of matter in such phenomenological models for a broad class of stationary and axisymmetric spinning BH spacetimes, generated from nonspinning seed solutions via a metric ansatz. We apply this framework to a representative set of spinning BH spacetimes and the non-spinning seeds from which they are derived. The models span different types of matter - fluids, scalar fields, electromagnetic fields. For each model, we calculate the timelike four-velocity of the matter and thereby identify the rest frame of the matter, both outside and inside the horizon. We then examine the spatial distribution of the matter rest-frame energy density $\epsilon$ and the principal pressures. This provides a complete picture of how the matter moves, what its material properties are, and whether it obeys the classical energy conditions. Notably, at a horizon, the normal component of the pressure always satisfies $p_n = -\epsilon$. We also investigate the expansions of the principal null congruences and explore the Hawking mass profiles of these spacetimes. These provide glimpses into the geometry of the stationary BH exterior as well as the nonstationary interior cosmology. The axisymmetric metric ansatz we work with can be used to generate new spinning solutions from a variety of nonspinning seeds. The matter in these models often satisfies the weak energy condition, at least in the BH exterior, and some models exhibit non-rigid, differential rotation., Comment: 25 pages, 9 figures, 2 tables

This study looks into regular solutions in a theory of gravity called $f(R)$ gravity, which also involves a scalar field. The $f(R)$ theory changes Einstein's ideas by adding a new function related to something called the Ricci scalar. This lets us tweak the equations that describe how gravity works. Adding a scalar field makes the theory more interesting, giving us more ways to investigate and understand it. { The main goal of this research is to create regular black holes using a combination of $f(R)$ gravitational theory and a scalar field.} Regular solutions don't have any singularities, which are points where certain physical quantities, like invariants, become really big or undefined. { In this context, we find two regular black hole solutions by using a spherical space with either an equal or unequal approach.} For the solutions where we use the equal approach, we figure out the shape of $f(R)$ and how it changes, along with its first and second derivatives. We demonstrate that Hayward's solution in this theory stays steady because all the shapes of $f(R)$ and their first and second derivatives are positive. Next, we focus on the case where the metric isn't equal and figure out the black hole solution. We also find out what $f(R)$ and the scalar field look like in this situation. We demonstrate that the solution in this case is a broader version of the Hayward solution. When certain conditions are met, we end up back at the scenario where the metrics are equal. We also prove that this model is stable because $f(R)$, along with its first and second derivatives, are all positive. { We analyze the trajectories of these black hole solutions and determine the forms of their conserved quantities that remain same along those trajectories., Comment: 23 pages, four figures

We show how to account the quantum gravitational correction part in BH shadows modelling using spinning BH metrics with a model independent approach. A possible violation of the weak gravity conjecture (WGC) by cosmic censorship is one of the major challenges in the field of general relativity. However, in this paper, we explore the possibility of reconciling the WGC and the WCCC by considering Reissner-Nordstr\"om (R-N) black holes embedded in perfect fluid dark matter (PFDM) in asymptotically flat spacetimes. These two conjectures are seemingly unrelated, but a recent proposal suggested that they are connected surprisingly. In particular, We argue a promising class of valid counterexamples to the WCCC in the four-dimensional Einstein-Maxwell theory, considering a charged black hole when WGC is present. We demonstrate that by imposing certain constraints on the parameters of the metric, the WGC and the WCCC can be compatible. Furthermore, we investigate the properties of the charged black hole in the presence of PFDM for $Q > M$ and present some intriguing figures to test the validity of the WGC and the WCCC simultaneously. When PFDM is absent ($\gamma=0$), the RN black hole either has two event horizons if $Q^2/M^2\leq 1$ or none if $Q^2/M^2> 1$. The second scenario results in a naked singularity, which contradicts the WCCC. But when PFDM is present ($\gamma\neq 0$), the RN black hole has event horizons with regard to Q and M. This implies that the singularity is always covered, and the WGC and the WCCC are fulfilled. Furthermore, we demonstrate that there is a critical value of $\gamma$, called $\gamma_{ext}$, that makes the RN black hole extremal when $\gamma=\gamma_{ext}$. In this situation, the black hole has an event horizon, and the WGC and the WCCC are still fulfilled. We infer that PFDM can make the WGC and the WCCC compatible with the RN black hole and that the WGC and the WCCC agree with each other when PFDM is present., Comment: 17 pages, 2 figures

The frozen star is a non-singular, ultracompact object that, to an external observer, looks exactly like a Schwarzschild black hole, but with a different interior geometry and matter composition. The frozen star needs to be sourced by an extremely anisotropic fluid, for which the sum of the radial pressure and energy density is either vanishing or perturbatively small. Here, we show that this matter can be identified with the string fluid resulting from the decay of an unstable $D$-brane or a brane-antibrane system at the end of open-string tachyon condensation. The string fluid corresponds to flux tubes emanating from the center and ending at the Schwarzschild radius of the star. The effective Lagrangian for this fluid can be recast into a Born-Infeld form. When the fluid Lagrangian is coupled to that of Einstein's Gravity, the static, spherically symmetric solutions of the equations of motion are shown to be the same as those describing the frozen star model. Frozen stars can therefore be viewed as gravitationally back-reacted BIons. The Born-Infeld Lagrangian provides a complete set of equations that describe the dynamics of the frozen star in a generic state, which is not necessarily static nor spherically symmetric. Additionally, this description provides a new physical perspective on the structure of the frozen star in terms of the corresponding electric fields and charges. The electric field is sourced by a point-like charge at the center of the star, while its outer layer is equal and oppositely charged. The electric force between the charges is offset because the mass of the star is fixed.

In this paper, we explore the intriguing interplay between fundamental theoretical physics concepts within the context of charged black holes. Specifically, we focus on the consistency of the weak gravity conjecture (WGC) and weak cosmic censorship conjecture (WCCC) in the thermodynamics of conformal field theory (CFT), and restricted phase space (RPS) for AdS Reissner-Nordstr$\"o$m black holes with a perfect fluid dark matter (RN-PFDM). The WGC ensures that gravity remains the weakest force in the system. Meanwhile, the WCCC addresses the cosmic censorship problem by preventing the violation of fundamental physical laws near the black hole singularity. First, we analyze the RN black hole's free energy in both spaces, revealing a distinctive swallowtail pattern indicative of a first-order phase transition when certain free parameter conditions are met. We explore the WGC across different phase spaces, emphasizing the need for certain conditions in EPST, RPST, and CFT. We demonstrate that PFDM $( \gamma )$ and the radius of AdS ($l$) have a vital role in proving the satisfaction of the WGC. Also, these values have a linear relation with the range compatibility of WGC. The range of compatibility for WGC in RPST and EPST is the same while for CFT, this range is larger than EPST, and RPST. It means somehow the WGC and CFT are more consistent. The WCCC was examined at the critical juncture, confirming its validity with $( f(M_c, Q_c, r_c) = 0 )$. We conclude that the WGC is supported at the critical point of black holes, and the WCCC is also maintained, demonstrating the robustness of these conjectures within the critical ranges of black hole parameters., Comment: 29 pages, 7 figures

We analyze a model for Dark Energy - Dark Matter interaction, based on a decaying process of the former constituents into the latter ones. The dynamical equations are constructed following a kinetic formulation, which separates the interacting fluctuations from equilibrium distribution of the both the species. The emerging dynamical picture consists of coupled equations, which are specialized in the case of a Dark Energy equation of state parameter: we deal with a modified Lambda Cold Dark Matter model, which is investigated versus a possible interpretation of the Hubble tension. We compare our model with data corresponding to 6 points of the expansion rate from Type Ia Supernovae. We show that, the proposed model suitably fits data according to a value of the Hubble constant compatible with the SHOES Collaboration measurement. The tension is solved because, essentially for redshift greater than one, the correction to the Lambda Cold Dark Matter model vanishes and its presence does not affect the Planck measurements., Comment: 6 pages, 2 figures

In this book chapter we describe the {\em Lagrangian} numerical relativity code \sphi. This code evolves spacetimes in full General Relativity by integrating the BSSN equations on structured meshes with a simple dynamical mesh refinement strategy. The fluid is evolved by means of freely moving Lagrangian particles, that are evolved using a modern Smooth Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) formulation. To robustly and accurately capture shocks, our code uses artificial dissipation terms, but, similar to Finite Volume schemes, we apply a slope-limited reconstruction within the dissipative terms and we use in addition time-dependent dissipation parameters, so that dissipation is only applied where needed. The technically most complicated, but absolutely crucial part of the methodology, is the coupling between the particles and the mesh. For the mapping of the energy-momentum tensor $T_{\mu\nu}$ from the particles to the mesh, we use a sophisticated combination of "Local Regression Estimate" (LRE) method and a "multi-dimensional optimal order detection" (MOOD) approach which we describe in some detail. The mapping of the metric quantities from the grid to the particles is achieved by a quintic Hermite interpolation. Apart from giving an introduction to our numerical methods, we demonstrate the accurate working of our code by presenting a set of representative relativistic hydrodynamics tests. We begin with a relativistic shock tube test, then compare the frequencies of a fully relativistic neutron star with reference values from the literature and, finally, we present full-blown merger simulations of irrotational binary systems, one case where a central remnant survives and another where a black hole forms, and of a binary where only one of the stars is rapidly spinning., Comment: 40 pages, 11 figures; Invited chapter for the edited book "New Frontiers in GRMHD Simulations" (Eds. We extend the construction of the Alcubierre-Natario class of warp drives to an infinite class of spacetimes with similar properties. This is achieved by utilising the Martel-Poisson charts which closely resemble the Weak Painleve-Gullstrand form for various background metrics (Mink, AdS, dS). The highlight of this construction is the non-flat intrinsic metric which in three-dimensional spacetimes introduces conical singularities at the origin and in higher dimensions generates a non-zero Ricci scalar for the spatial hypersurfaces away from the origin. We analyse the expansion/contraction of space and negative energy densities associated with this class of warp drives and find interesting deviations due to the global imprints of the conical defects. A gravitational field can cause a rotation of the polarisation plane of light. This phenomenon is known as the gravitational Faraday effect. It arises due to different spin-orbit interaction of left- and right-handed circularly polarised components of light. Such an interaction also causes transverse displacement in the light trajectory, in opposite directions for each component. This phenomenon is known as the gravitational spin-Hall effect of light. We study these effects in a local inertial frame in arbitrary vacuum space-time and show that they are observer dependent and arise due to interaction of light polarisation with a local gravitomagnetic field measured by observer. Thus, to address the effects to a gravitational field alone, one has to consider zero angular momentum observers., Comment: 8 pages
