Mathematical modelling and ethics have more touching points than most of us would like to admit. Everyday decisions are often reasoned by mathematical arguments. Mathematics teachers belong to those mathematically literate, who must point out mistakes in public discussions and reflect on them in their teaching to educate students to become critical thinkers. Krull's Fundamentalsatz, the generalisation of the main theorem of elementary number theory to integral domains, is the starting point of Lorenzen's career in mathematics. This article traces a conceptual history of Lorenzen's successive reformulations of the Fundamentalsatz on the basis of excerpts of his articles. The aim of this article is to give practicing teachers an overview about the theory behind paperfolding, it is my qualifying thesis(Zulassungsarbeit) as a teacher in Germany. It is a survey about the relations between paperfolding and algebra, in particular Galois theory. We develop a system of fundamental foldings for paperfolding, discuss which field can be constructed using these techniques and advance to concrete constructions solving (classical) construction problems. Finally, we think about possible generalisations of the given system of fundamental constructions. This text summarizes and expands the content of a general audience talk given in 2018 at the University of Mainz. Motivated by recent developments in dependent type theory and infinity category theory, it presents a history of ideas around the concepts of truth, proof, equality, and equivalence as well as their relation to human thought. We describe a few selected ideas of Platon, Aristoteles, Leibniz, Kant, Frege and others and then pass to the results of G\"odel and Tarski about incompleteness, undecidability and truth in deductive systems and their semantic models. The main focus of this text, however, is the development of dependent type theory through the work of Per Martin--L\"of and recent developments in homotopy type theory, i.e., the univalent foundations program of Vladimir Voevodsky and others. These theories allow the notion of identity types, which gives new possibilities for handling equality, symmetry, equivalence and isomorphisms in a conceptual way. Martin--L\"of type theories have semantic models in (infinity,1)-categories, which are related to simplicial localizations of Quillen model categories. The interaction of type theory with infinity category theory is a new paradigm for a structural view on mathematics which is superior to set theory. This article, based on a talk, treats some elementary, but not completely simple examples from probability. They concern multiple birthday coincidences, throwing dice, the combinatorics of the German card game "Doppelkopf", and the properties of products of uniformly distributed random numbers. The material, a lot of which was not taken from or found in other sources, should be of interest to all those who lecture or plan to lecture on probability, especially on an elementary or introductory level, and are looking for challenging examples or problems., Comment: 30 pages, in German, 21 figures

The Coupon Collector's Problem is one of the few mathematical problems that make news headlines regularly. The reasons for this are on one hand the immense popularity of soccer albums (called Paninimania) and on the other hand that no solution is known that is able to take into account all effects such as replacement (limited purchasing of missing stickers) or swapping. In previous papers we have proven that the classical assumptions are not fulfilled in practice. Therefore we define new assumptions that match reality. Based on these assumptions we are able to derive formulae for the mean number of stickers needed (and the associated standard deviation) that are able to take into account all effects that occur in practical collecting. Thus collectors can estimate the average cost of completion of an album and its standard deviation just based on elementary calculations. From a practical point of view we consider the Coupon Collector's problem as solved. ----- Das Sammelbilderproblem ist eines der wenigen mathematischen Probleme, die regelm\"a{\ss}ig in den Schlagzeilen der Nachrichten vorkommen. Dies liegt einerseits an der gro{\ss}en Popularit\"at von Fu{\ss}ball-Sammelbildern (Paninimania genannt) und andererseits daran, dass es bisher keine L\"osung gibt, die alle relevanten Effekte wie Nachkaufen oder Tauschen ber\"ucksichtigt. Egbert Brieskorn died on July 11, 2013, a few days after his 77th birthday. He was an impressive personality who has left a lasting impression on all who knew him, whether inside or outside of mathematics. Brieskorn was a great mathematician, but his interests, his knowledge, and activities ranged far beyond mathematics. In this contribution, which is strongly influenced by many years of personal connectedness of the authors with Brieskorn, we try to give a deeper insight into the life and work of Brieskorn. We illuminate both his personal commitment to peace and the environment as well as his long-term study of the life and work of Felix Hausdorff and the publication of Hausdorff's collected works. In this note we explain Frege's notation by using the nowadays common notions from elementary propositional logic.
