Non-unitary $3 \times 3$ mixing matrices are present in many extensions of the Standard Model. One of the most simple extensions is the addition of $n_R$ right-handed neutrinos without imposing Lepton Number Conservation ($n_R$$\nu$SM). In the region of the parameter space where the usual seesaw approximation is valid, deviations from $3 \times 3$ unitarity of the leptonic mixing matrix are negligible, while one has three light neutrinos and two or three heavy neutrinos with masses close to the GUT scale. This gap between the mass scales occurs while having order 1 Yukawa couplings, providing a natural explanation for the smallness of light neutrino masses - hence the name seesaw. Other regions of the parameter space, with lighter heavy neutrinos - with an eV or keV mass, for instance - and bigger deviations from unitarity of the leptonic mixing matrix, are still allowed by experiment. In fact, whenever heavy neutrino masses are many orders of magnitude below the GUT scale there are interesting phenomenological implications at low energies. To analyse such regions with precision, one needs an exact parameterisation, since approximations that were valid in the usual seesaw case now fail. This thesis will consist of a study and classification of regions of the 3$\nu$SM parameter space in the light of a newly-developed exact parameterisation. Furthermore, it will also include a study of models with vector-like quarks, another simple extension of the SM, that contains a $3 \times 3$ non-unitary quark mixing matrix. Studying the most interesting regions of the parameter space of vector-like quarks models also benefits from the use of the aforementioned exact parameterisation. These regions are phenomenologically rich and may explain certain open questions like the CKM unitarity problem/Cabibbo angle anomaly. We apply the multi-particle fields model to calculate the differential cross-section d{\sigma}/dt of elastic proton-proton scattering. This problem includes the calculation of multidimensional integrals arising from the loop Feynman diagrams. We demonstrated how these integrals can be reduced with Laplace's method to one- and two-dimensional integrals which can be calculated numerically. The Standard Model of fundamental interactions, albeit an incredibly elegant and successful theory, lacks explanations for some experimental and theoretical open questions. Interestingly, many of these problems seem to be related to the electroweak symmetry breaking sector of the theory, whose dynamical generation is still unknown. Important questions such as what is the true nature of the Higgs boson, why is its mass so light and so close to that of the electroweak gauge bosons or whether the properties of this particle are the ones predicted in the Standard Model remain unanswered. The LHC is our tool to unveil these mysteries and vector boson scattering processes are the perfect window to access them, since they are considered as the most sensitive observables to new physics in the electroweak symmetry breaking sector. Flavor physics has been crucial in the development of particle physics and it will keep being so in the future. Nowadays, this kind of processes, in particular lepton flavor changing observed in neutrino oscillations, give us the clearest evidence of the fact that the Standard Model of fundamental interactions needs to be modified. Some of the most popular theories that try to asses this issue postulate the existence of new heavy right-handed neutrinos, with masses in the energy range that the LHC experiment is currently exploring. In this thesis, we study the connection between the possible existence of these neutrinos and charged lepton flavor changing physics. We consider the inverse seesaw model as a particular realization of a low scale seesaw model and analyze its lepton flavor violating phenomenology, in particular the Higgs and Z boson decays to two charged leptons of different flavor. The minimal supersymmetric standard model with a low scale see-saw mechanism is presented. Within this framework, the lepton flavour violation in the charged lepton sector is thoroughly studied. Special attention is paid to the individual loop contributions due to the heavy neutrinos $N_{1,2,3}$, sneutrinos $\tilde{N}_{1,2,3}$ and soft SUSY-breaking terms. For the first time, the complete set of box diagrams is included, in addition to the photon and $Z$-boson mediated interactions. The complete set of chiral amplitudes and their associate form-factors related to the neutrinoless three-body charged lepton flavor violating decays of the muon and tau, such as $\mu \to eee$, $\tau \to \mu\mu\mu$, $\tau \to e\mu\mu$ and $\tau \to ee\mu$, as well as the coherent $\mu \to e$ conversion in nuclei, were derived. The obtained analytical results are general and can be applied to most of the New Physics models with charged lepton flavor violation. This systematic analysis has revealed the existence of two new box form factors, which have not been considered before in the existing literature in this area of physics. In the same model, the systematic study of one-loop contributions to the muon anomalous magnetic dipole moment $a_\mu$ and the electron electric dipole moment $d_e$ is performed. In this doctoral thesis, we study both low- and high-energy observables related to massive neutrinos. Neutrino oscillations have provided indisputable evidence in favour of non-zero neutrino masses and mixings. However, the original formulation of the Standard Model cannot account for these observations, which calls for the introduction of new Physics. Among many possibilities, we focus here on the inverse seesaw, a neutrino mass generation mechanism in which the Standard Model is extended with fermionic gauge singlets. This model offers an attractive alternative to the usual seesaw realisations since it can potentially have natural Yukawa couplings ($\mathcal{O}(1)$) while keeping the new Physics scale at energies within reach of the LHC. Among the many possible effects, this scenario can lead to deviations from lepton flavour universality. We have investigated these signatures and found that the ratios $R_K$ and $R_\pi$ provide new, additional constraints on the inverse seesaw. We have also considered the embedding of the inverse seesaw in supersymmetric models. This leads to increased rates for various lepton flavour violating processes, due to enhanced contributions from penguin diagrams mediated by the Higgs and $Z^0$ bosons. Finally, we also found that the new invisible decay channels associated with the sterile neutrinos present in the supersymmetric inverse seesaw could significantly weaken the constraints on the mass and couplings of a light CP-odd Higgs boson., Comment: PhD thesis, Univ. Modern physics describes elementary particles by a formalism known as Quantum Field Theory. However, straight calculations with this formalism lead to numerous divergences, hence one needs a suitable regularization scheme. 40 years ago a surprising scheme was established for this purpose: Dimensional Regularization. One computes in "4 + epsilon space-time dimensions", and takes the limit to our 4 dimensional space-time at the end. This method caused a revolution in particle physics, which led to the Standard Model. The Higgs boson, relic of the spontaneous electroweak symmetry breaking, is one of the most important searches at current hadron colliders. This thesis wishes to present theoretical predictions for the inclusive production and decay of the Higgs boson(s) either in the context of the Standard Model (SM) or in its minimal supersymmetric extension (MSSM) where five Higgs bosons are present. We will focus on the two major hadron colliders, the Fermilab Tevatron collider and the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) which is running at 7 TeV. We will present the predictions for the dominant production and decay channels and describe the thorough analysis of the theoretical uncertainties affecting these predictions that has been conducted. We will give the implications on experimental searches and in particular revisit the inferred limits on SM Higgs boson mass and on the MSSM parameter space. Positron and electron cosmic rays provide a complementary way to study the galactic environment. The actual cosmic rays experiments, for instance PAMELA and HEAT, have presented very exciting results in this field. The observed positron fraction appears larger than the actual theoretical predictions for energies larger than 10 GeV. The indirect evidences of Dark Matter in connection with Beyond the Standard Model theories would suggest the existence of an extra contribution present in the cosmic ray signal. We study and calculate the positron signal produced by the annihilation of a generic Dark Matter candidate. Especially, We analyze typical annihilation signatures and the impact of CR propagation physics on the positron signal. In addition, we study the positron signal related to spallation processes between nuclei cosmic--rays and the interstellar gas. We analyze the effects of uncertainties present in nuclear cross section, nuclei cosmic--ray and CR propagation physics. If calculated in the standard way, the cross section for the collision of two unstable particles turns out to diverge. This is because this cross section is actually proportional to the size of the colliding beams. The effect is called the "linear beam size effect". We present a way of including this linear beam size effect in the usual Monte Carlo integration procedure. The cosmological relic density of a Bino-like Lightest Supersymmetric Particle is calculated in the framework of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model. We include annihilation and coannihilation effects of the Bino with the lightest stau and with the other sleptons, which happen to have comparable masses with it. Coannihilation turns out to be crucial for reducing the Bino relic density to an acceptable level. Phenomenological constraints, also, results from the inclusion of the supersymmetric corrections to the CP-even Higgs boson and b-quark masses and the branching ratio of b -->s gamma. We impose these constraints on two versions of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model, employing radiative electroweak breaking with universal boundary conditions and gauge coupling unification. In the first version of the model we assume Yukawa coupling unification and boundary conditions from gravity-mediated supersymmetry breaking. The new, complex-dynamical mechanism of the universal gravitation naturally incorporating dynamical quantization, wave-particle duality, and relativity of physically emerging space and time (quant-ph/9902015,16) provides the realistic meaning and fundamentally substantiated modification of the Planckian units of mass, length, and time approaching them closely to the extreme values observed for already discovered elementary particles. This result suggests the important change of research strategy in high-energy/particle physics, displacing it towards the already attained energy scales and permitting one to exclude the existence of elementary objects in the inexplicably large interval of parameters separating the known, practically more than sufficient set of elementary species and the conventional, mechanistically exaggerated values of the Planckian units. This conclusion is supported by the causally complete (physically and mathematically consistent) picture of the fundamental levels of reality derived, without artificial introduction of any structure or 'principle', from the unreduced analysis of the (generic) interaction process between two primal, physically real, but a priori structureless entities, the electromagnetic and gravitational protofields. We discuss the phenomenology of third generation sfermions paying particular attention to the implications of the Yukawa couplings and to the left-right mixing. Analytical formulae are given for the sfermion mixing, the production cross sections at e+e- colliders, and for all possible two body decay widths that can occur at tree level. In case of the light stop stop we give in addition the analytical formulae for the most important three body decay widths. We give detailed numerical discussion of the various production cross sections at LEP2 and a future e+e- Linear Collider.
