Graphene nanosheets (GNS) paper is widely regarded as a promising candidate for heat dissipation due to its outstanding thermal conductivity. However, the accompanied high electrical conductivity makes it unfavorable for thermal management of high power electronics since it runs a high risk of short circuits. To eliminate the risk from the high electrical conductivity and simultaneously maintain the excellent thermal performance, we introduce boron nitride nanosheets (BNNS) that possess high thermal conductivity but electrical insulation into the GNS paper. The hybrid paper has a much lower electrical conductivity but similar thermal performance compared to the pristine GNS paper. Besides, the flexible hybrid paper exhibits better thermal stability than pure GNS paper. Our results show that the ability of BNNS to change the electrical conductivity of paper without affecting its thermal conductivity is potential for the application of heat management materials with tailored electrical properties.

This work concerns studies of field electron emission (FE) from large area emitters. It discusses--and where possible corrects--several literature weaknesses related to the analysis of experimental current-voltage data and related emitter characterization, using a recent paper in Applied Surface Science to exemplify these weaknesses. One weakness, not detected in the published paper, is that current-density experiments and related theoretical predictions there differ by a large factor, in this case of order 10^(16). The work also shows that a recently introduced validity test--the "magic emitter" test--can be used, at the immediate-pre-submission or review stages, to help uncover scientific problems. More generally, in the literature of FE from large area emitters over the last 15 years or so, there appear to be many papers (perhaps hundreds of papers) with some or all of the weaknesses discussed. The scientific integrity of this research area, and of the related peer review processes, appear to be significantly broken, and attempts to correct the situation by the normal processes of science have had limited effect. Plasmonic modes offer the potential to achieve PetaVolts per meter fields, that would transform the current paradigm in collider development in addition to non-collider searches in fundamental physics. PetaVolts per meter plasmonics relies on collective oscillations of the free electron Fermi gas inherent in the conduction band of materials that have a suitable combination of constituent atoms and ionic lattice structure. As the conduction band free electron density, at equilibrium, can be as high as $\rm 10^{24}cm^{-3}$, electromagnetic fields of the order of $\rm 0.1 \sqrt{\rm n_0(10^{24}cm^{-3})} ~ PVm^{-1}$ can be sustained by plasmonic modes. Engineered materials not only allow highly tunable material properties but quite critically make it possible to overcome disruptive instabilities that dominate the interactions in bulk media. Due to rapid shielding by the free electron Fermi gas, dielectric effects are strongly suppressed. Because the ionic lattice, the corresponding electronic energy bands and the free electron gas are governed by quantum mechanical effects, comparisons with plasmas are merely notional. Based on this framework, it is critical to address various challenges that underlie PetaVolts per meter plasmonics including stable excitation of plasmonic modes while accounting for their effects on the ionic lattice and the electronic energy band structure over femtosecond timescales. We summarize the ongoing theoretical and experimental efforts as well as map out strategies for the future. Extreme plasmonic fields can shape the future by not only bringing tens of TeV to multi-PeV center-of-mass-energies within reach but also by opening novel pathways in non-collider HEP. In view of this promise, we invite the scientific community to help realize the immense potential of PV/m plasmonics and call for significant expansion of the US and international R\&D program., Comment: contribution to Snowmass 2021

Non-Hermitian topology is a recent hot topic in condensed matters. In this paper, we propose a novel platform drawing interdisciplinary attention: rock-paper-scissors (RPS) cycles described by the evolutionary game theory. Specifically, we demonstrate the emergence of an exceptional point and a skin effect by analyzing topological properties of their payoff matrix. Furthermore, we discover striking dynamical properties in an RPS chain: the directive propagation of the population density in the bulk and the enhancement of the population density only around the right edge. We theoretically demonstrate the realization of a chiral edge mode in a system beyond natural science. Specifically, we elucidate that a kagome network of rock-paper-scissors (K-RPS) hosts a chiral edge mode of the population density which is protected by the non-trivial topology in the bulk. The emergence of the chiral edge mode is demonstrated by numerically solving the Lotka-Volterra (LV) equation. This numerical result can be intuitively understood in terms of cyclic motion of a single RPS cycle which is analogues to the cyclotron motion of fermions. Furthermore, we point out that a linearized LV equation is mathematically equivalent to the Schr\"odinger equation describing quantum systems. This equivalence allows us to clarify the topological origin of the chiral edge mode in the K-RPS; a non-zero Chern number of the payoff matrix induces the chiral edge mode of the population density, which exemplifies the bulk-edge correspondence in two-dimensional systems described by evolutionary game theory., Comment: 7 pages, 7 figures

Paper is the ideal substrate for the development of flexible and environmentally sustainable ubiquitous electronic systems, which, combined with two-dimensional materials, could be exploited in many Internet-of-Things applications, ranging from wearable electronics to smart packaging. Here we report high-performance MoS2 field-effect transistors on paper fabricated with a channel-array approach, combining the advantages of two large-area techniques: chemical vapor deposition and inkjet-printing.The first allows the pre-deposition of a pattern of MoS2; the second, the printing of dielectric layers, contacts, and connections to complete transistors and circuits fabrication. Average ION/IOFF of 8 x 10^3 (up to 5 x 10^4) and mobility of 5.5 cm2 V-1 s-1 (up to 26 cm2 V-1 s-1) are obtained. Fully functional integrated circuits of digital and analog building blocks, such as logic gates and current mirrors, are demonstrated, highlighting the potential of this approach for ubiquitous electronics on paper.

The problem of capillary transport in fibrous porous materials at low levels of liquid saturation has been addressed. It has been demonstrated, that the process of liquid spreading in this type of porous materials at low saturation can be described macroscopically by a similar super-fast, non-linear diffusion model as that, which had been previously identified in experiments and simulations in particulate porous media. The macroscopic diffusion model has been underpinned by simulations using a microscopic network model. The theoretical results have been qualitatively compared with available experimental observations using persistent liquids.

The realization of optoelectronic devices on paper has been an outstanding challenge due to the large surface roughness and incompatible nature of paper with optical materials. Here, we demonstrate a new class of optoelectronic devices on a piece of printing paper using graphene as an electrically reconfigurable optical medium. Our approach relies on electro-modulation of optical properties of multilayer graphene on paper via blocking the interband electronic transitions. The paper based devices yield high optical contrast in the visible spectrum with fast response speed. Pattering graphene into multiple pixels, folding paper into 3-dimensional shapes or printing coloured ink on paper substrates enable us to demonstrate novel optoelectronic devices which cannot be realized with wafer-based techniques., Comment: Work has been published in ACS Photonics. A physical model for the simulation ink/paper interaction at the mesoscopic scale is developed. It is based on the modified Ising model, and is generalized to consider the restriction of the finite-volume of ink and also its dynamic seepage. This allows the model to obtain the ink distribution within the paper volume. At the mesoscopic scale, the paper is modeled using a discretized fiber structure. The ink distribution is obtained by solving its equivalent optimization problem, which is solved using a modified genetic algorithm, along with a new boundary condition and the quasi-linear technique. Graphene-based papers attract particular interests recently owing to their outstanding properties, the key of which is their layer-by-layer hierarchical structures similar to the biomaterials such as bone, teeth and nacre, combining intralayer strong sp2 bonds and interlayer crosslinks for efficient load transfer. Here we firstly study the mechanical properties of various interlayer and intralayer crosslinks via first-principles calculations and then perform continuum model analysis for the overall mechanical properties of graphene-based papers. We find that there is a characteristic length scale l_{0}, defined as \Sqrt{Dh_{0}/4G}, where D is the stiffness of the graphene sheet, h_{0} and G are the height of interlayer crosslink and shear modulus respectively. When the size of the graphene sheets exceeds 3l_{0}, the tension-shear (TS) chain model that are widely used for nanocomposites fails to predict the overall mechanical properties of the graphene-based papers. Instead we proposed here a deformable tension-shear (DTS) model by considering the elastic deformation of the graphene sheets, also the interlayer and intralayer crosslinks. The DTS is then applied to predict the mechanics of graphene-based paper materials under tensile loading. According to the results we thus obtain, optimal design strategies are provided for designing graphene papers with ultrahigh stiffness, strength and toughness., Comment: 23 pages, 6 figures

The normal paper used in any printer is among the cheapest flexible organic materials that exist. We demonstrate that we can print on paper high-frequency circuits tunable with an applied dc voltage. This is possible with the help of an ink containing functionalized carbon nanotubes and water. After the water is evaporated from the paper, the nanotubes remain steadily imprinted on paper, showing a semiconducting behaviour and tunable electrical properties.

Here we give detailed derivations and provide additional examples to the main paper: arXiv:0706.0212. In particular, we discuss the scaling behavior of observables like correlation functions and density of excitations. We also analyze effects of nonintegrability of the Bose-Hubbard model on the long-time dynamics of the correlation functions. We introduce an effect of metallization of dielectric nanofilms by strong, adiabatically varying electric fields. The metallization causes optical properties of a dielectric film to become similar to those of a plasmonic metal (strong absorption and negative permittivity at low optical frequencies). In this communication we present our response to the recent comment of A. Engel regarding our paper on FIB- fabricated Nb nanowires (see Vol. 20 (2009) Pag. 465302). After further analysis and additional experimental evidence, we conclude that our interpretation of the experimental results in light of QPS theory is still valid when compared with the alternative proximity-based model as proposed by A. As a particular application of the earlier proposed model of graphene as a macromolecule, we found the exact analytical expression of dispersion relation for the band of edge states in graphene zigzag ribbons. This band is often referred to as "dispersionless band" or "zero mode". The obtained result contrasts description of edge states given in the referenced paper, showing that the earlier given explanation is valid only for a very narrow region of values of the electron/hole wave vector, but for the rest, it is not correct., Comment: Editing

Recently von Delft (cond-mat/0510563v1)(JvD) has successfully re-derived our influence functional for interacting electrons and claimed that within our approach he was able to obtain the electron decoherence rate that vanishes at T=0. In this Comment we demonstrate that this JvD's claim is in error, as it is based on ambiguous and uncontrolled manipulations violating basic principles of quantum theory, such as energy-time uncertainty relation, causality, fluctuation-dissipation theorem, detailed balance and the like. We also briefly address insufficient approximations employed by Marquardt {\it et al.} (cond-mat/0510556v1) and by von Delft {\it et al.} (cond-mat/0510557v1) and demonstrate that the results of all three papers in the limit T=0 are inconsistent with simple rules of algebra., Comment: 7 pages, 1 figure

The fractions of constant conductivity, i, where the conductivity is ie^2/h are interpretted to arise from the summation of two frequencies, \omega_1+ \omega_2, type of processes so that the quantum Hall effect becomes a problem of spectroscopic energy levels. We describe the conversion of resistivity to the frequency spectrum. An effort is made to look at the recent articles from the Phys. Rev. Lett. 1998-2001, to see if there are any data which does not agree with our theory. Laughlin has found "exactly" the wave function which is ascribed to an excitation of fractional charge, such as e/3. We find that the exactness of the wave function is not destroyed by changing the charge to some other quantity such as the magnetic field. Thus e/3 and H can be replaced by e and H/3. In this paper, we present a reconfigurable multiplex (MUX) setup that increases the throughput of electrical characterisation at cryogenic temperature. The setup separates the MUX circuitry from quantum device under test (qDUT), allowing qDUT chips to be exchanged easily and MUX chips to be reused. To interface with different types of qDUTs, board-level designs are incorporated to allow interconnects flexibly routed into different topology. MUXs are built based on a multiple level selective gating (MLSG) scheme, where the number of multiplexed output channels (interconnects) is exponentially dependent on the number of control lines. In the prototype setup presented in this paper, with 14 out of 44 existing wires from room temperature, 4 MUXs at cryogenic temperature can supply in total 128 interconnects to interface with qDUTs. We validate the MUX setup operation and assess the various limits existed by measuring k$\Omega$ resistors made of $\mu$m-size graphene ribbons. We further demonstrate the setup by performing charge transport measurement on 128 nm-size graphene quantum devices in a single cooling down.

This paper is devoted to the construction of efficient (simple to implement) explicit semiclassical asymptotic eigenfunctions of the Dirac operator for high-energy bound states in graphene in magnetic field. When considering excited states in graphene, a distortion called trigonal warping begins to play an~important role, see [7], [12]. We are dealing with a~trigonal warping correction, considering it to be small. While the standard semiclassical methods allow one to solve the eigenequations for operators if and only if quantization conditions are met, we, based on article [1], develop approaches that can be used in case these conditions are violated. The paper aims to reveal the relationship between the geometrical features and linear and nonlinear optical properties of InAs quantum dots (QDs). This problem is justified by the extreme variety offered by the recent advances in growth techniques tailored to the attainment of QDs and nanostructures with virtually any shape. To that end, the Finite Element Method in conjunction with the Effective Mass Approximation and Envelope Function Approximation was employed to solve the one-particle eigenproblems in domains with any complex geometries. The paper explores nanoplatelets, spherical QDs, nanocones, nanorods, nanotadpoles, and nanostars. It has been found that there is a clear correlation between the complexity and symmetry of the QDs and their linear and nonlinear absorption spectra for transitions between the electronic ground state and the first three excited states.

In this paper a thorough theoretical study of a new class of collective excitations, dubbed hyperbolic surface phonon plasmon polaritons, is performed. This new type of light-matter excitations are shown to have unique properties that allows to explore them both as the basis of ultra-sensitive devices to the dielectric nature of its surroundings. The system is a van der Waals heterostructure -- a layered metamaterial, composed of different 2D materials in direct contact one with another, namely graphene ribbons and hexagonal boron nitride slabs of nanometric size. In the paper we discuss the spectrum of these new class of excitations, the associated electromagnetic fields, the sensitivity to the dielectric function of its surroundings, and the absorption spectrum. All this is accomplished using an analytical model that considerably diminishes the computational burden, as well as elucidates the underling physical mechanism of the excitations supported by the device., Comment: 19 pages, 9 figures

Decades ago, Gurzhi proposed that if momentum-conserving collisions prevail among heat-carrying phonons in insulators and charge-carrying electrons in metals, hydrodynamic features will become detectable. In this paper, we will review the experimental evidence emerging in the last few years supporting this viewpoint and raising new questions. The focus of the paper will be bulk crystals without (or with a very dilute concentration) of mobile electrons and steady-state thermal transport. Uncovering pathways to optically drive magnetic order-disorder transitions on ultrashort timescales can lead to the realization of novel out-of-equilibrium quantum phenomena. A long-sought pathway is to directly excite a highly non-thermal energy-momentum distribution of magnons, bypassing both charge and lattice degrees of freedom. However, this remains elusive owing to the weak coupling and large momentum mismatch between photons and magnons. Here we demonstrate strong parametric excitation of magnons across the entire Brillouin zone of the antiferromagnetic insulator Sr$_2$Cu$_3$O$_4$Cl$_2$ by periodically modulating the superexchange interaction with the electric field of light. The excitation efficiency is greatly enhanced by tuning to the van Hove singularity in the magnon spectrum, sufficient to transiently collapse the antiferromagnetic state using a pulsed laser field of 10$^9$ V/m. The order parameter recovery timescale increases by over 1000 times as a function of excitation density, reflecting a crossover from high- to low-energy magnon dominated decay dynamics. This electric-field induced parametric magnon pumping mechanism is applicable to a broad range of magnetic insulators and opens up the possibility of dynamically engineering magnon distributions by design., Comment: The submitter did not obtain approval from all authors to post this paper. The paper analyzes theoretically the influence of fullerenes on the characteristics of $\mathrm{Al/C}_{60}$ composites. The molecular dynamics method is used to study the dependences of density and stiffness constants on the concentration of inclusions, and to calculate the values of the bulk and shear moduli for isotropic polycrystalline nanocomposites. The analysis shows that interfacial interaction significantly affects the properties of nanocomposites. This effect can be taken into account within the framework of the theory of heterogeneous media using the interphase layer model. The properties of the interphase layer are determined by interfacial interaction and can be calculated by approximating the results of molecular dynamics calculations. Using assumptions about the simplified form of the two-particle distribution function allows the interfacial interaction energy to be calculated and the interphase layer properties to be assessed analytically. The paper compares numerical results and analytical estimates, and discusses the validity of the approximations used. The analysis performed on the example of an $\mathrm{Al/C}_{60}$ composite material demonstrates the feasibility of using the analytical model of the interphase layer to estimate the effective density and elastic moduli of heterogeneous media with nano-inhomogeneities., Comment: 12 pages, 4 figures, 2 tables

This paper delves into the origins and specificity of the unique stable spin textures (360{\deg} closed loop domain walls and skyrmions) observed in exchange-biased systems, with either in-plane or out-of-plane magnetic anisotropy. In the case of skyrmions, which are nanometer-sized bubbles consisting of closed-loop 180{\deg} walls in perpendicularly-magnetized media, the stability of these spin textures arises from the existence of Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya Interactions (DMI). These interactions induce chirality of the domain walls, yielding to some extent a so-called topological protection. More complex structures such as skyrmoniums have been observed, consisting of closed loop 360{\deg} walls. Recently, skyrmions formed in the absence of an applied external magnetic field have been stabilized in exchange biased out-of-plane magnetized systems. About two decades ago, another type of stable spin-textures were observed in exchange biased systems, with in-plane magnetization, in particular in the pinned reference layer of spin-valves. These textures consist of 360{\deg}-domain-wall rings, the stability of which arises from the easy-plane shape anisotropy of these layers. In this paper, we compare these spin-textures and highlight the similarities and differences in their formation, structure and origin of their stability.

In this theoretical study, we focus on the high-frequency response of the electrothermal NbO2-Mott threshold switch, a real-world electronic device, which has been proved to be relevant in several applications and is classified as a volatile memristor. Memristors of this kind, have been shown to exhibit distinctive non-linear behaviors crucial for cutting-edge neuromorphic circuits. In accordance with well-established models for these devices, their resistances depend on their body temperatures, which evolve over time following Newton's Law of Cooling. Here, we demonstrate that HP's NbO2-Mott memristor can manifest up to three distinct steady-state oscillatory behaviors under a suitable high-frequency periodic voltage input, showcasing increased versatility despite its volatile nature. Additionally, when subjected to a high-frequency periodic voltage signal, the device body temperature oscillates with a negligible peak-to-peak amplitude. Since, the temperature remains almost constant over an input cycle, the devices under study behave as linear resistors during each input cycle. Based on these insights, this paper presents analytical equations characterizing the response of the NbO2-Mott memristor to high-frequency voltage inputs, demarcating regions in the state space where distinct initial conditions lead to various asymptotic oscillatory behaviors. Importantly, the mathematical methods introduced in this manuscript are applicable to any volatile electrothermal resistive switch. Additionally, this paper presents analytical equations that accurately reproduce the temperature time-waveform of the studied device during both its transient and steady-state phases when subjected to a zero-mean sinusoidal voltage input oscillating in the high-frequency limit.

This paper reviews the new highly interdisciplinary research field studying the behavior of condensed matter systems exposed to radiation. The paper highlights several relevant examples of recent advances in the field and provides a roadmap for the development of the field in the next decade. Condensed matter systems exposed to radiation may have very different natures, being inorganic, organic or biological, finite or infinite, be composed of many different molecular species or materials, existing in different phases (solid, liquid, gaseous or plasma) and operating under different thermodynamic conditions. The essential and novel element of this research is that, despite the vast diversity of such systems, many of the key phenomena related to the behavior of irradiated systems (such as radiation-induced damage, mechanisms of damage repair and control, radiation protection, etc.) are very similar and can be understood based on the same fundamental theoretical principles and computational approaches. One of the essential features of the aforementioned phenomena concerns their multiscale nature as the manifestation of the radiation-induced effects occurring at different spatial and temporal scales ranging from the atomic to the macroscopic. The multiscale nature of the effects and similarity of their manifestation in systems of different origins necessarily brings together different disciplines, such as physics, chemistry, biology, materials and nano-science, and biomedical research, demonstrating numerous interlinks and commonalities between them. The electronic structure and interactions of kagome materials such as 1:1 (FeGe class) and 1:6:6 (MgFe$_6$Ge$_6$ class) are complicated and involve many orbitals and bands at the Fermi level. Current theoretical models treat the systems in an $s$-orbital kagome representation, unsuited and incorrect both quantitatively and qualitatively to the material realities. In this work, we lay the basis of a faithful framework of the electronic model for this large class of materials. We show that the complicated ``spaghetti" of electronic bands near the Fermi level can be decomposed into three groups of $d$-Fe orbitals coupled to specific Ge orbitals. Such decomposition allows for a clear analytical understanding (leading to different results than the simple $s$-orbital kagome models) of the flat bands in the system based on the $S$-matrix formalism of generalized bipartite lattices. Our three minimal Hamiltonians can reproduce the quasi-flat bands, van Hove singularities, topology, and Dirac points close to the Fermi level, which we prove by extensive ab initio studies. We also obtain the interacting Hamiltonian of $d$ orbitals in FeGe using the constraint random phase approximation (cRPA) method. We then use this as a fundamental ``LEGO"-like building block for a large family of 1:6:6 kagome materials, which can be obtained by doubling and perturbing the FeGe Hamiltonian. We applied the model to its kagome siblings FeSn and CoSn, and also MgFe$_6$Ge$_6$. Recent experiments performed the nonreciprocal magneotransport in ZrTe$_5$ and obtained a giant magnetochiral anisotropy (MCA) coefficient $\gamma'$. The existing theoretical analysis was based on the semiclassical Boltzmann equation. In this paper, we develop a full quantum theory to calculate $\gamma'$ and further explore the underlying physics. We reveal that the $xz$-mirror symmetry breaking term also breaks the parity symmetry of the system and leads to mixed selection rules and nonvanishing second-order conductivity $\sigma_{xxx}$. The calculations show that $\gamma'$ decreases with the magnetic field, survives only to weak impurity scatterings, and exhibits a nonmonotonous dependence on the strength of the $xz$-mirror symmetry breaking. We observe significant, 6.5 - 12%, differences between skyrmion and antiskyrmion Hall angles in existing experimental data. To account for them, the Thiele equation is generalized with the transverse velocity component in the collective coordinate of magnetization vector. The corresponding generalized Hall angle is formulated, and its consequences are compared to the data. Beyond the extensively studied microcavity polaritons, which are coupled modes of semiconductor excitons and microcavity photons, nearly 2D semiconductors placed in a suitable environment can support spatially localized exciton-polariton modes. We demonstrate theoretically that two distinct types of such modes can exist in a photonic crystal with an embedded transition metal dichalcogenide (TMD) monolayer and derive an equation that determines their dispersion relations. The localized modes of two types occur in the zeroth- and first-order stop-bands of the crystal, respectively, and have substantially different properties. The latter type of the localized modes, which appear inside the light cone, can be described as a result of coupling of the TMD exciton and an optical Tamm state of the TMD-intercalated photonic crystal. The generation, manipulation, storage, and detection of single photons play a central role in emerging photonic quantum information technology. Individual photons serve as flying qubits and transmit the quantum information at high speed and with low losses, for example between individual nodes of quantum networks. Due to the laws of quantum mechanics, quantum communication is fundamentally tap-proof, which explains the enormous interest in this modern information technology. On the other hand, stationary qubits or photonic states in quantum computers can potentially lead to enormous increases in performance through parallel data processing, to outperform classical computers in specific tasks when quantum advantage is achieved. Here, we discuss in depth the great potential of quantum dots (QDs) in photonic quantum information technology. In this context, QDs form a key resource for the implementation of quantum communication networks and photonic quantum computers because they can generate single photons on-demand. Moreover, QDs are compatible with the mature semiconductor technology, so that they can be integrated comparatively easily into nanophotonic structures, which form the basis for quantum light sources and integrated photonic quantum circuits. After a thematic introduction, we present modern numerical methods and theoretical approaches to device design and the physical description of quantum dot devices. We then present modern methods and technical solutions for the epitaxial growth and for the deterministic nanoprocessing of quantum devices based on QDs. Furthermore, we present the most promising concepts for quantum light sources and photonic quantum circuits that include single QDs as active elements and discuss applications of these novel devices in photonic quantum information technology. A numerical model based on a lumped circuit element approximation for a bi-superconducting quantum interference device (bi-SQUID) operating in the presence of an external magnetic field is presented in this paper. Included in the model is the novel ability to capture the resultant behaviour of the device when a strong electric field is applied to its Josephson junctions by utilising gate electrodes. The model is used to simulate an all-metallic SNS (Al-Cu-Al) bi-SQUID, where good agreement is observed between the simulated results and the experimental data. The results discussed in this work suggest that the primary consequences of the superconducting field effect induced by the gating of the Josephson junctions are accounted for in our minimal model; namely, the suppression of the junctions super-current. Although based on a simplified model, our results can potentially help with the task of clarifying the microscopic origin of this effect. Also, the possible applications of this effect regarding the operation of SQUIDs as ultra-high precision sensors, where the performance of such devices can be improved via careful tuning of the applied gate voltages, are discussed at the end of the paper., Comment: 8 pages, 3 figures

We carry out a field-theoretical renormalization group procedure based on the Callan-Symanzik equation to calculate the detailed flow for the (multi) two-channel Kondo model and its compactified versions. In doing so, we go beyond the universal terms in the beta function we obtained using poor man's scaling (see companion paper II) and culminate our analysis of how the compactified versions of the model fare against the original one. Among other results, we explore the large-channel-number limit and also extend our considerations to the finite temperature crossover region. Moreover, we gain insights into the contradistinction between the consistent vs. conventional bosonization-debosonization formalisms, thereby advancing our understanding on multiple fronts. Thermal equilibrium states of local quantum many-body systems are notorious for their spatially decaying correlations, which place severe restrictions on the types of many-body entanglement structures that may be observed at finite temperatures. These restrictions may however be defied when an out-of-equilibrium steady state is considered instead. In this paper, we study the entanglement properties of free fermions on a one-dimensional lattice that contains a generic charge- and energy-conserving noninteracting impurity, and that is connected at its edges to two reservoirs with different equilibrium energy distributions. These distributions may differ in either temperature, chemical potential, or both, thereby inducing an external bias. We analytically derive exact asymptotic expressions for several quantum information measures -- the mutual information, its R\'enyi generalizations, and the fermionic negativity -- that quantify the correlation and entanglement between two subsystems located on opposite sides of the impurity. We show that all these measures scale (to a leading order) linearly with the overlap between one subsystem and the mirror image of the other (upon reflection of the latter about the impurity), independently of the distance between the subsystems. While a simple proportionality relation between the negativity and R\'enyi versions of the mutual information is observed to hold at zero temperature, it breaks down at finite temperatures, suggesting that these quantities represent strong long-range correlations of different origins. Our results generalize previous findings that were limited to the case of a chemical-potential bias at zero temperature, rigorously demonstrating that the effect of long-range volume-law entanglement is robust at finite temperatures., Comment: 16+4 pages, 4 figures

A (2+1)D topological ordered phase with U(1) symmetry may or may not have a symmetric gapped edge state, even if both thermal and electric Hall conductivity are vanishing. It is recently discovered that there are "higher" versions of Hall conductivity valid for fermionic fractional quantum Hall (FQH) states, which obstructs symmetry-preserving gapped edge state beyond thermal and electric Hall conductivity. In this paper, we show that one can extract higher Hall conductivity from a single wave function of an FQH state, by evaluating the expectation value of the "partial rotation" unitary which is a combination of partial spatial rotation and a U(1) phase rotation. This result is verified numerically with the fermionic Laughlin state with $\nu=1/3$, $1/5$, as well as the non-Abelian Moore-Read state. Together with topological entanglement entropy, we prove that the expectation values of the partial rotation completely determines if a bosonic/fermionic Abelian topological order with U(1) symmetry has a symmetry-preserving gappable edge state or not. Even in non-Abelian FQH states, partial rotation provides the Lieb-Schultz-Mattis type theorem constraining the low-energy spectrum of the bulk-boundary system. Semiconductor quantum dot arrays are a leading architecture for the development of quantum technologies. Over the years, the constant capacitance model has served as a fundamental framework for simulating, understanding, and navigating the charge stability diagrams of small quantum dot arrays. However, while the size of the arrays keeps growing, solving the constant capacitance model becomes computationally prohibitive. This paper presents an open-source software package able to compute a $100 \times 100$ pixels charge stability diagram of a 16-dot array in less than a second. Smaller arrays can be simulated in milliseconds - faster than they could be measured experimentally, enabling the creation of diverse datasets for training machine learning models and the creation of digital twins that can interface with quantum dot devices in real-time. Our software package implements its core functionalities in the systems programming language Rust and the high-performance numerical computing library JAX. The Rust implementation benefits from advanced optimisations and parallelisation, enabling the users to take full advantage of multi-core processors. The JAX implementation allows for GPU acceleration.

The high-order Hall effects, which go beyond the ordinary, unlock more possibilities of electronic transport properties and functionalities. Pioneer works focus on the manufacture of complex nanostructures with low lattice symmetry to produce them. In this paper, we theoretically show that such high-order Hall effects can alternatively be generated by curving a conducting nanomembrane which is highly tunable and also enables anisotropy. Its Hall response can be tuned from first to fourth order by simply varying the direction and magnitude of the applied magnetic field. The dominant Hall current frequency can also be altered from zero to double, or even four times that of the applied alternating electric field. This phenomenon is critically dependent on the occurrence of high-order snake orbits associated with the effective magnetic-field dipoles and quadruples induced by the curved geometry. We consider the resonance and scattering properties of a composite medium containing scatterers whose properties are modulated in time. When excited with an incident wave of a single frequency, the scattered field consists of a family of coupled harmonics at frequencies differing by the frequency of temporal modulation. Similarly, the temporal modulation induces coupling between the resonance frequencies, leading to exceptional points at certain modulation amplitudes. Moreover, the lack of energy conservation causes scattering coefficients to blow up when (complex) resonances cross the real axis. We have developed an integral operator approach to characterize the scattering problem and, for high-contrast scatterers, we present small-volume asymptotic formulas analogous to the classical results for the static (unmodulated) case. We conclude the paper with a boundary integral formulation of the time-modulated problem, which gives an efficient numerical approach and corroborates the asymptotic formulas., Comment: 8 pages, 4 figures

Biological environments at micrometer scales and below are often crowded, and experience incessant stochastic thermal fluctuations. The presence of membranes/pores, and multiple biological entities in a constricted space can make the damping/diffusion inhomogeneous. This effect of inhomogeneity is presented by the diffusion becoming coordinate-dependent. In this paper, we analyze the consequence of inhomogeneity-induced coordinate-dependent diffusion on Brownian systems in thermal equilibrium under the It\^o's interpretation. We argue that the presence of coordinate-dependent diffusion under It\^o's formulation gives rise to an effective diffusion potential that can have substantial contribution to system's transport. This paper aims to theoretically analyze the behavior of Dirac fermions in tilted Dirac cone material, particularly those that have diffused a barrier potential.Our results show that the degree of tilt in the y-direction can lead to different collimations of the Dirac fermion beams relative to the Fermi and confinement surfaces. To study the transmission probability, we exploited our results numerically, taking into account the various configurations of the system and the different external and internal physical parameters by characterizing the behavior of fermionic transport in a proposed heterostructure. Excitons in van der Waals heterostructures based on atomically thin transition metal dichalcogenides are considered as potential candidates for the formation of a superfluid state in two-dimensional systems. To build a large scale quantum circuit comprising millions of cryogenic qubits will require an efficient way to supply large numbers of classic control signals. Given the limited number of direct connections allowed from room temperature, multiple level of signal multiplexing becomes essential. The stacking of hardware to accomplish this task is highly dependent on the lowest level implementation of control electronics, of which an open question is the feasibility of mK integration. Such integration is preferred for signal transmission and wire interconnection, provided it is not limited by the large power dissipation involved. Novel cryogenic electronics that prioritises power efficiency has to be developed to meet the tight thermal budget. In this paper, we present a power efficient approach to implement charge-locking array.

It is common in condensed matter systems for reflection ($R$) and time-reversal ($T$) symmetry to both be broken while the combination $RT$ is preserved. In this paper we study invariants that arise due to $RT$ symmetry. We consider many-body systems of interacting fermions with fermionic symmetry groups $G_f = \mathbb{Z}_2^f \times \mathbb{Z}_2^{RT}$, $U(1)^f \rtimes \mathbb{Z}_2^{RT}$, and $U(1)^f \times \mathbb{Z}_2^{RT}$. We show that (2+1)D invertible fermionic topological phases with these symmetries have a $\mathbb{Z} \times \mathbb{Z}_8$, $\mathbb{Z}^2 \times \mathbb{Z}_2$, and $\mathbb{Z}^2 \times \mathbb{Z}_4$ classification, respectively, which we compute using the framework of $G$-crossed braided tensor categories. We provide a many-body $RT$ invariant in terms of a tripartite entanglement measure, and which we show can be understood using an edge conformal field theory computation in terms of vertex states. For $G_f = U(1)^f \rtimes \mathbb{Z}_2^{RT}$, which applies to charged fermions in a magnetic field, the non-trivial value of the $\mathbb{Z}_2$ invariant requires strong interactions. For symmetry-preserving boundaries, the phases are distinguished by zero modes at the intersection of the reflection axis and the boundary. Nonlinear spintronics, which combines nonlinear dynamics and spintronics, opens a new route for controlling spins and spin dynamics beyond conventional spintronics based on linear responses. Strongly correlated electron systems, which can have large nonlinear responses, are promising candidates for nonlinear spintronics. In this paper, we focus on the nonlinear Edelstein effect (NEE), a generalization of the Edelstein effect, and study the impact of electron correlations on the NEE by performing numerical calculations on a Hubbard model. We find that correlation effects can either enhance or suppress the nonlinear response. We show that the enhancement and suppression of the response are due to the real and imaginary components of the self-energy, respectively. Additionally, we have explored the relationship between the NEE and photomagnetic or optomagnetic effects. Our findings demonstrate that electron correlations can either enhance or suppress the optical spin injection, depending on the light frequency, while always strengthening the inverse Faraday effect., Comment: 20 pages,8 figures

In cavity magnomechanical systems, magnetic excitations couple simultaneously with mechanical vibrations and microwaves, combining the tunability of the magnetization, the long lifetimes of mechanical modes and the whole measurement toolbox of microwave systems. Such hybrid systems have been proposed for applications ranging from thermometry to entanglement generation. However, backaction noise can hinder the measurement of the mechanical vibrations, potentially rendering such applications infeasible. In this paper, we investigate the noise introduced in a mechanical mode of a cavity magnomechanical system in a one-tone drive scheme and propose a scheme for realizing backaction evasion measurements of the mechanical vibrations. Our proposal consists of driving the microwave cavity with two tones separated by twice the phonon frequency and with amplitudes balanced to generate equal numbers of coherent magnons. We demonstrate that different configurations of such a scheme are possible and show that drives centered around the lower frequency magnon-microwave polariton in a triple resonance scheme add the minimum imprecision noise in the measurement, even though such configuration is not the most robust to imperfections., Comment: 25 pages, 13 figures

Magnetic anisotropy and magnetic exchange interactions are crucial parameters that characterize the hybrid metal-organic interface, key component of an organic spintronic device. We show that the incorporation of 4$f$ RE atoms to hybrid metal-organic interfaces of CuPc/REAu$_2$ type (RE= Gd, Ho) constitutes a feasible approach towards on-demand magnetic properties and functionalities. The GdAu$_2$ and HoAu$_2$ substrates differ in their magnetic anisotropy behavior. Remarkably, the HoAu$_2$ surface boosts the inherent out-of-plane anisotropy of CuPc, owing to the match between the anisotropy axis of substrate and molecule. Furthermore, the presence of RE atoms leads to a spontaneous antiferromagnetic (AFM) exchange coupling at the interface, induced by the 3$d$-4$f$ superexchange interaction between the unpaired 3$d$ electron of CuPc and the 4$f$ electrons of the RE atoms. Leveraging generative Artificial Intelligence (AI), we have transformed a dataset comprising 1,000 scientific papers into an ontological knowledge graph. Through an in-depth structural analysis, we have calculated node degrees, identified communities and connectivities, and evaluated clustering coefficients and betweenness centrality of pivotal nodes, uncovering fascinating knowledge architectures. The graph has an inherently scale-free nature, is highly connected, and can be used for graph reasoning by taking advantage of transitive and isomorphic properties that reveal unprecedented interdisciplinary relationships that can be used to answer queries, identify gaps in knowledge, propose never-before-seen material designs, and predict material behaviors. We compute deep node embeddings for combinatorial node similarity ranking for use in a path sampling strategy links dissimilar concepts that have previously not been related. One comparison revealed structural parallels between biological materials and Beethoven's 9th Symphony, highlighting shared patterns of complexity through isomorphic mapping. In another example, the algorithm proposed a hierarchical mycelium-based composite based on integrating path sampling with principles extracted from Kandinsky's 'Composition VII' painting. The resulting material integrates an innovative set of concepts that include a balance of chaos/order, adjustable porosity, mechanical strength, and complex patterned chemical functionalization. We uncover other isomorphisms across science, technology and art, revealing a nuanced ontology of immanence that reveal a context-dependent heterarchical interplay of constituents. Graph-based generative AI achieves a far higher degree of novelty, explorative capacity, and technical detail, than conventional approaches and establishes a widely useful framework for innovation by revealing hidden connections.

The few-body problem for $N=4$ fermionic charge carriers in a double-well moir\'{e} quantum dot (MQD), representing the first step in a bottom-up strategy to investigate formation of molecular supercrystals in transition metal dichalcogenide (TMD) moir\'e superlattices with integral fillings, $\nu > 1$, is solved exactly by employing large-scale exact-diagonalization via full configuration interaction (FCI) computations. A comparative analysis with the mean-field solutions of the often used spin-and-space unrestricted Hartree Fock (sS-UHF) demonstrates the limitations of the UHF method (by itself) to provide a proper description of the influence of the interdot Coulomb interaction. In particular, it is explicitly shown for $\nu=2$ that the exact charge densities (CDs) within each MQD retain the ring-like shape characteristic (for a wide range of relevant parameters) of a fully isolated MQD, as was found for sliding Wigner molecules (WMs). This deeply quantum-mechanical behavior contrasts sharply with the UHF CDs that portray solely orientationally pinned and well localized dumbbell dimers. An improved CD, which agrees with the FCI-calculated one, derived from the restoration of the sS-UHF broken parity symmetries is further introduced, suggesting a beyond-mean-field methodological roadmap for correcting the sS-UHF results. It is conjectured that the conclusions for the $\nu=2$ moir\'e TMD superlattice case extend to all cases with integral fillings that are associated with sliding WMs in isolated MQDs.
