MWCNT + Fe3O4- water hybrid nanofluid’s heat transfer due to convection through a pipe was studied numerically and presented in this paper. Using the ANSYS FLUENT 22 software, the single phase energy equation of second order, momentum equation, and mass equation are all solved. The diameter of the pipe was 4mm and lthe lengthwas 800mm. Water which was considered the base fluid was used with different volume fractions (0% to t%) of MWCNT + Fe3O4nanoparticles for a wide variety of Reynolds number (300 to 1000) at a steady heat flux of 2000 W/m2 at the wall of the tubes. The result demonstrates that for both MWCNT + Fe3O4-H2O nanofluid and water, increasing Reynolds number increases the Surface Nusselt number, skin friction coefficient and also the pressure loss in the evolved region.

This paper introduces a cutting-edge, self-contained cooling jacket design and its practical implementation. The jacket utilizes Peltier modules and a water circulation system to efficiently transfer heat, completely eliminating the need for traditional compressors or refrigerants. The key components of this innovative system include aluminum blocks housing Peltier modules, dual-loop water coolant systems, a compact suction fan, a radiator, two submersible pumps, and a rechargeable Lipo battery. The cooling process involves water circulating through the aluminum blocks to effectively dissipate heat generated by the Peltier modules. The heated water then traverses a path through plastic pipes, the radiator, and a holding tank, and ultimately returns to the aluminum blocks, while the cold water travels from the tank to the aluminum blocks via copper tubing. This ingenious configuration delivers remarkable cooling performance without relying on conventional cooling components. Extensive laboratory testing of the system confirmed its capability to achieve cooling temperatures up to 10°C below the ambient temperature. These results signify the promising potential of the cooling jacket across various applications, especially those requiring a portable and self-contained cooling solution. Such applications include critical scenarios like military and first responder operations, demanding industrial and construction settings, and scenarios involving individuals with medical conditions exacerbated by heat. The innovative cooling jacket offers a highly efficient and versatile solution for a wide range of practical needs.

In this paper, the contribution of Beyond the Standard Model (BSM) particles on the Electric Dipole Moment (EDM) of charged lepton is calculated in a minimal Left-Right Symmetric Model. First-order quantum correction i.e., one loop correction, from relevant diagrams in the unitary gauge using Feynman parameterization is used because there is no tree-level contribution in Electric Dipole Moment due to non-renormalizability of the dipole term in the Lagrangian. This study mainly focuses on the BSM Higgs sector contribution to the EDM of charged leptons due to phenomenological interest. CP violation is directly connected to the EDM of fundamental particles. Matter-antimatter asymmetry is a mystery of the universe that demands CP symmetry to be violated. The standard model cannot explain the observed CP violation. Standard Model (SM) is so far the best description of nature. Despite having tremendous success, e.g., Electro-weak Symmetry Breaking and Higgs discovery, the Standard model is not complete. Moreover, experimentally, we observed small neutrino mass and neutrino mixing. The Seesaw Mechanism can explain neutrino mass smallness and mixing introducing a large Majorana mass. Left-right symmetric model is the most natural extension of SM which can accommodate the Seesaw mechanism. So EDM contributions from BSM particles in the Left-Right symmetric Model are a good probe of new physics beyond the SM. These contributions then can be used to do phenomenology and test the Model.

The generation III+ VVER-1200 (AES-2006) reactor is equipped with improved safety features with component redundancy compared to the previous models. This paper is concerned with the performance of active and passive safety features during the transient of a major beyond design basis accident (BDBA) scenario of the reactor. The study is done considering large break loss of coolant accident (LB LOCA) with loss of offsite power (LOOP) and LB LOCA with loss of all AC power (LOACP) sources namely station blackout (SBO) using VVER-1200 NPP simulator. It was found that the reactor is capable of mitigating such BDBA scenarios by the effectiveness of the active and passive safety systems. Moreover, LB LOCA with LOACP is observed to be more severe compared to LBLOCA with LOOP. This comparative analysis is compatible with IAEA safety guidelines.

Plastic is a delinquent substance that affects all ecosystems. Unfortunately, plastic is being utilized more frequently than it was previously used. The bad dispatch is that they are thrown away in the wild once they have been used. Their buildup does not degrade, and it is harmful to the environment. An appropriate procedure for recovering plastic wastes and converting them into standardized material to produce composite tiles with their application can be a viable solution to this dangerous situation. The paper aims to find an effective means of disposing of plastic waste by designing and developing plastic tiles with the insertion of antimicrobial properties. At first, plastic waste was collected, cleaned, and shredded accordingly. Then the waste plastic is melted in a pyrolysis plant, mixed with sand, and poured into the prefabricated mold. As a walkway tile, the mold size was chosen as 12-inch length, 10-inch width, and 0.8-inch height. It has been found that 70 % sand and 30 % plastic exhibit better mechanical properties. For the insertion of antimicrobial properties into the tiles, ginger powder is added to the mixture of the composite tiles. An antibacterial study was performed against gram-positive S. aureus bacteria to evaluate their antimicrobial property. The analysis shows that the composite tiles could kill 40.58% gram-positive S. aureus in six hours.

The performance of any unmanned aerial vehicle largely depends upon its weight as this characteristic dictates its payload capacity and flight duration. This paper presents a multiphysics simulation method for designing a unibody quadcopter airframe with optimum weight in SolidWorks. By adopting the computer-aided topology optimization concept, the mass of the frame is decreased by 91% (from 1558.44 to 134.738 grams) after getting rid of the unwanted elements, while not compromising its structural rigidity. The efficacy of the model is assessed by finite element analysis and it is found that the stress would remain within the acceptable limit. The optimized structure shows an operating life of 1.6×105cycles in the fatigue analysis and experiences significantly less drag force in the computational fluid dynamics test than the original airframe for several angles of attack, thus proving the superiority of the optimized frame over the initial model. Finally, additive manufacturing is performed to fabricate the optimized structure using PLA material. 3D printing through the fused deposition modeling technique is chosen since it is ideal for fabricating intricate engineering prototypes compared to orthodox manufacturing processes. While creating the frame, a 45° overhang angle is maintained to ensure the usage of less support material.

Mars rovers are developed using the most sophisticated technology. Competitions such as the University Rover Challenge (URC), European Rover Challenge (ERC), and Anatolian Rover Challenge (ARC) encourage students to become acquainted and experienced with cutting-edge technology. This paper focuses on the development and analysis of a modified version of a non-pneumatic tire (NPT) for the MIST Mars rover “Phoenix 2.0.” Recent studies show that NPT has a good potential to replace conventional tires. To optimize the tire design for the rover, many design aspects are considered. The additive manufacturing process is used to fabricate the tire model to ensure the proper geometrical shape and usage of material. Later, a static structural analysis is conducted to investigate the stress and deformation of the tire that it may experience during rover operation. The developed deformation and stress in this analysis are well protected by the honeycomb structures that are optimized from many design attempts. The result shows a positive indication of meeting the desired criteria that eventually results in the fabrication of the tire and participation in the ARC competition. This research will inspire others to contribute to the advancement of NPT in various circumstances where pneumatic tires perform inadequately.

Blindness is a condition in which a person loses their ability to see because of physiological or neurological issues. This paper suggests a smart blind stick that uses modern technologies to make traveling easier for visually impaired people. Ultrasonic, light, water, and height sensors are used in the blind stick. An ultrasonic sensor is used to identify obstacles ahead of blind people. In addition, water sensors detect the presence of water and leaks when deployed in regions. One ultrasonic sensor is placed on the walking stick to classify the height of a barrier. An LDR is used to provide information about day and night. It also has GPS to help blind people track their location. Furthermore, a voice recognition system was employed to deliver the message by the human voice. Its height can be adjusted easily. After understanding customers’ demands, some ideas are added to create a product prototype. A cost analysis has been conducted, and it is discovered that mass production of the product is quite profitable. The smart blind stick is a low-cost, fast, and easy solution for blind and visually impaired people in third-world countries.

Currently, almost all car manufacturers have in the production scheme at least one vehicle model with a hybrid or electric energy source. This fact is generated by the high interest in the market related to the subsidies offered to the purchase by the states but also by the high performance in terms of pollution, noise, and economy, which they can achieve. The only performance indicator which for the moment is not at a satisfactory level is represented by autonomy. At this point, the electric cars have an autonomy between 250 and 800 km driven after a single charge of the traction battery. It should be mentioned though that, the autonomy of electric vehicles declared by European manufacturers is obtained in laboratory conditions, these being carried out in accordance with the provisions of the European Union regulations. Obviously, there are significant differences between the electric autonomy obtained in laboratory conditions and the autonomy obtained in real driving conditions. These differences are related to the ideal test conditions achieved at the laboratory level and which cannot be fully found in real driving conditions. Starting from these premises, in a first part of the paper, are presented the theoretical arguments regarding the determination of autonomy in real driving conditions with a driving profile specific to the RDE testing and are described the technical details of the electric vehicle under investigation. In the second part of the paper, are presented the results of the experimental research for the three driving zones specific to the RDE testing: driving in the urban zone, driving in the rural zone, and driving on the motorway. The downward evolution of the state of charge of the traction battery for each driving zone is shown graphically. Following the processing, analysis and interpretation of the data acquired from the car electronic control units, are formulated conclusions regarding the causes that influence the electric autonomy.

Time-history analysis (THA) is based on direct step-by-step integration of the equation of motion in time domain considering as input either the recorded accelerograms of real or artificially generated earthquakes. Numerical simulations are sensitive in terms of material properties, geometry, boundary conditions and applied loading scenarios correct definition. Therefore, additional care is required in the pre-processing stage of the analysis when the numerical model is defined. Infill walls play an important role on the seismic behaviour of structures during earthquakes. The response of the structure to seismic action changes due to the presence of the infill walls. The paper presents the results obtained by means of THA on the effect of partial infill walls on the seismic response of a scaled-down RC frame structure subjected to four consecutive uniaxial seismic motions. The parameters of the research were the presence of the partial infill wall and the thickness of the wall. The obtained results are discussed from the point of view of maximum lateral displacements and response spectra expressed in terms of accelerations. The results contribute towards the setting up of the subsequent shake table tests of scaled-down RC frame models with different configurations that would validate and help calibrate the numerical model.

Recent seismic events that took place during the past two decades and struck densely populated areas caused significant material losses and, sometimes, casualties. Taking into account the ageing of the building stock around the world coupled with unavoidable degradations, urgent measures need to be taken to either strengthen or retrofit such structures based on data obtained from analytical, experimental or numerical investigations. The present paper presents the results of numerical simulations, using time-history analyses, on a scaled-down reinforced concrete (RC) frame structure subjected to two multidirectional seismic scenarios. The obtained results are discussed from the point of view of maximum displacements, accelerations and equivalent stresses. Considering the dynamic characteristics of the model, neither considered seismic event were able to produce large lateral displacements or accelerations. Damages were localized at the beam-column joints in case of Turkey 2023 earthquake scenario.

The pace between city development, increasing number of working places and emissions control is a challenge nowadays in urban environment. The gradual increase of electric cars ownership is essential for reducing the emissions level in urban areas. The city policy is of high importance for encouraging the use of electric cars, especially for trip purposes to work and business. The paper deals with the effects of increasing the fleet of electric vehicles on the emissions level in urban areas. The effect of considering a certain share of electric car trips to work and business is analyzed. Considering this, the concept of “green city corridors” can be introduced and considered as a priority for the transport policy in urban areas.

The most important attributes expected from today’s electric vehicles are the electricity consumption and the autonomy, which must be able to unequivocally replace the results achieved by the vehicles equipped with an internal combustion engine. These expectations come equally from the car manufacturers and from the end users. Based on these premises, in a first part of the paper, are presented the theoretical aspects concerning the test procedure for determining the autonomy of electric vehicles, applicable at the European level, with the highlighting of the low and medium driving zones, specific to the WLTC test. Also, are indicated theoretical details regarding the model of the electric vehicle tested and simulated, using the AMESIM modelling and simulation platform. In the second part are presented the comparative results obtained by measuring and simulating regarding the electric autonomy, respectively the influence that the driving at the low and the medium speed has, upon of the state of charge depletion of the traction battery.

The continuous development of urban areas coupled with the ageing of built-stock and the variety of structures built following different design code recommendations may result in different behaviours during seismic events. Hence, reliable information is needed in order to assess the risk of severe damage or collapse during earthquakes. Accurate numerical simulations coupled with analytical models provide essential information on the seismic performance of civil engineering structures. The results obtained from realistic numerical simulations may serve as entries in data-bases designed to train and calibrate early warning systems (EWS). Their continuous development is of paramount importance taking into account their potential to save lives and prevent economic loses in case of a severe seismic event. The paper presents the preliminary results obtained from numerical simulations on the seismic response of a tall reinforced concrete (RC) frame structure subjected to both horizontal and vertical string motions produced by an earthquake. The obtained results, in terms of response spectra in terms of accelerations, may be used for training EWS sensors to identify a seismic event and transmit warning messages at local, regional and even national level.

In civil engineering, one of the main problems is the stability of structures. Blast vibrations can be one of several elements influencing the stability of these structures. In order to prevent any effects on the structures, the maximum suggested values of the peak particle velocity and frequency from the blast are generally determined using the existing appropriate government rules and industry standards as reference. In this paper, the effect of these vibration on the site response has been investigated. Parameters such as peak ground acceleration, Pseudo spectral acceleration and maximum stress and strain has been compared for two different soil models. The results indicate that the soft soil has a significant impact and amplifies the input parameters considerably.

Sustainable transportation solutions are more crucial than ever because of the pressing need to increase resource efficiency while lowering greenhouse gas emissions. The most recent advancements in the e-cycle sector have made a significant contribution to this goal and have attracted the interest of numerous businesses that offer mobility services. This paper discusses the main topics surrounding pedal electric cycles (PEDELECS) with an accent on a niche application, namely e-cargo cycles. The paper highlights not just the defining characteristics of these categories, but also other relevant aspects such as barriers to market penetration, general legislation, benefits for specific applications, as well as the significance of incentives, local infrastructure, and urban policies. Based on the available literature, it can be concluded that PEDELECS have a considerable potential to contribute to sustainability goals in urban areas due to their numerous benefits (functionality without emissions, less space occupied on roads, ability to access destinations with increased precision, ability to travel in car-restricted areas, lower costs compared to conventional vehicles, added health benefits to the users, versatility etc.). However, there are also significant challenges and barriers that must be overcome before they can see widespread adoption.

A proof-load test is often necessary to accurately measure the field behavior of a bridge structure. A new segmental steel bridge has been constructed over the Tisza River in Hungary. The bridge comprises of two independent steel box girders assembled by a welding system. Engineers performed proof load tests before opening the structure to evaluate its load-carrying capacity and deck deflection. This paper presents several aspects of the load testing and evaluation of the bridge structure under static and dynamic loads using a rating factor (RF) approach compared to a baseline finite element model. The load test results helped to calibrate the model and verify the method. The study reveals that the tested bridge has an elastic behavior, a high capacity, and adequate dynamic performance.

The paper presents a comparative analysis based on the Finite Element Method (FEM) for a masonry building located in Iasi, the North-Eastern side of Romania. This specific region is known to be found in a seismic area having a design peak ground acceleration of 0.25g. The building was assessed as being in the 1st seismic risk class, according to the Romanian norms, with a high probability of collapse in case of future earthquakes. Being a historical monument, the structural strengthening solutions are very limited. The study consists of modal and seismic analyses for the masonry structure. A comparison of the advantages and disadvantages of two approaches of structural rehabilitation solutions is done. The structural strengthening solution “A” consists of the addition of reinforced concrete thin wall elements, while the other - called solution “B” - consists of an interior steel profile skeleton mechanically and chemically connected to the adjacent masonry walls.

The paper presents the GASTER Electricway 4WDconcept, Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) type, in development within the Automotive EngineeringResearch Centre of the University of Pitesti, aiming to create a green and versatile version of Romanian Dacia Duster. The car has been built by implementing a hybrid propulsion system with electrified rear axle. This hybrid system is PHEV, parallel type with two shafts, organized in a motorized solution E4WD (Electricway 4WD). It is composed of a thermal power train with a 1.6 litre engine fuelled with Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and a CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission), placed in the front of the vehicle. The electric powertrain, located at the rear side of the vehicle includes an electric motor coupled with a mechanical transmission. The traction battery is Lithium-ion NMC type. The charging of the traction battery can be performed with the on board charger of by cable from a Wallbox or public station, in the Standardversion, and Plug-in bidirectional or Wireless from renewable sources in the Premiumversion.

The paper presents the design and development of an integrated powertrain system where the suspension system is also included in the wheel together with the electric machine. Based on a patent of one of the authors, the solution was virtually developed and tested. Different advancements were performed during the development phases for choosing the final architecture. Currently, the integrated propulsion system is manufactured and implemented on a L6E road vehicle to be tested and optimized.

The problem of slope stability is a common one in the field of geotechnical engineering. There is more than one method that can be adopted in order to improve the stability of a slope. During the last decade, using piles for improving the mechanical behaviour of slopes has become the main approach of dealing with unstable slopes. In the current paper, the stability of a slope was analysed by using the tridimensional finite elements method using different scenarios of consolidation with timber piles. A parametric analysis was carried out for two different slopes: sand slope and soft soil slope. There were also analysed two different constitutive models: Mohr-Coulomb and Hardening Soil Small with different location of the consolidation system. The stability analyses employed both timber piles and concrete piles which were modelled in Plaxis 3D software by using two different approaches: embedded piles and volume piles. In the end, the most favourable position for the pile consolidation system is highlighted in order to attain the maximum stability of the slope. Also, different aspects of the constitutive models, modelling the piles and pile material are discussed from the point of view of slope stability improvement.

This paper evaluates the applicability of centralized concentrating solar power systems in Colombia. For this purpose, these systems have been classified into four subsystems: parabolic trough, linear Fresnel, parabolic dish and tower. Each is explored for its suitability by meeting a set of six attributes. A bibliometric analysis process was developed using the Scopus database and the VOSviewer software to present the potential of each subsystem evaluated through an evaluation matrix. The analysis of the subsystems and attributes was carried out through the formal concept analysis methodology 8FCA). To facilitate data processing, the open access software concept Explorer is implemented. The analysis shows that parabolic trough technology is more widely used worldwide than the other three technologies evaluated, and its maturity makes it possible to plan centralized and decentralized projects in developing countries. The bibliometric analysis integrated with the applied FCA methodology has proven to be useful for the evaluation of technological typologies and serves as an alternative to develop theoretical studies that group and link different options as a model to evaluate a deterministic set of attributes.

The paper presents the integrated propulsion system implementation steps on a L6E road vehicle. The implementation followed several technical levels which are properly described within the paper. The functional behaviour in terms of electric propulsion was defined and developed. All the dedicated components were investigated, set and customized, to equip a L6E vehicle. Currently the electric machine, the battery pack, the user interface, the speedometer, the pedals, the power electronics etc. are implemented on a real existing L6E road vehicle, after they were defined and virtually tested.

The paper presents the testing bench dedicated to the integrated propulsion system (IPS). The IPS consists of a wheel that carries the electric machine and the suspension inside. Its behaviour needs to be tested while being used independently on a test bench and then on road tests. Because no already existing testing bench was available for this kind of testing, a dedicated testing bench was designed and developed. Its main role is to investigate the functional behaviour of the wheel, together with the integrated suspension system behaviour. The tests were made following different scenarios, where different tire dimensions, different environment properties, different road profiles etc. were reproduced.

A vehicle powered by electricity is a kind of alternative fuel-powered automobile that uses electrically powered engines and controllers for them in place of a conventional internal combustion engine. Instead of burning a carbon-based fuel, power is generated using battery packs. This not only results in monetary savings but also has an extremely reduced negative influence on the surrounding natural environment. The high price that a buyer must pay to get one of the electric cars that are now on the market is one disadvantage. In this article, we explore the possibility of developing an electric vehicle with the use of an electrical conversion kit. The fundamentals and constituent parts of electric car systems will be broken down, and the procedure for transitioning from an internal combustion engine vehicle to an electric vehicle will be analyzed in this paper.

Present paper presents a comparative study made on the seismic performance of composite steel-concrete shear walls with rectangular openings, by performing numerical analyses using ATENA 3D software. Two specimens were designed at a reduced scale 1:3 having similar arrangements in the cross-section and the same geometry. First element was conceived with centered openings while the second one was designed with staggered openings. Steel connectors disposed as horizontal stiffeners were used to design and to assure the full connection between the structural steel profiles embedded in the edges and the concrete core. The openings that were considered on each story of the walls, were having the dimension of a common architectural door. A part of the results recorded from the experimental tests were used to calibrate the numerical models. This study aims to establish the seismic performance and to investigate the influence of the openings and the geometric position on the overall seismic behavior of the composite shear walls. Key parameters which describe the seismic performance of structural elements such: bearing capacity, deformation capacity, stiffness degradation, cracks and strain development are compared between the specimens and discussed. The results showed that different arrangements of the openings could significantly modify or increase the seismic performance of the composite structural walls.

Assessing the technical condition of earthen constructions is an extremely difficult task due to the fact that the materials, methods and techniques used in construction have been replaced by new materials and installation procedures. Although they have a fairly large share in the existing housing stock, earthen constructions have not benefited from the same interest in the field of construction. This paper proposes a review of the current assessment possibilities applicable to earthen constructions in relation to the current level of knowledge on a local and international level.

The paper presents a comparative time history analysis based on the 1D-beam Finite Element Method (FEM) for a thin-walled cold-formed steel structure previously investigated both theoretically and experimentally. The recent earthquake which occurred in Turkey with 7.8Mw and a Peak Ground Acceleration (PGA) of almost 0.5g showed numerous collapses of different types of buildings. Romania has an active seismic area located in the Vrancea region where, in 1977 a 7.5Mw earthquake also occurred. In this context, this paper presents a comparative analysis with time history accelerograms of the recorded earthquake in North – South and East - West directions. The structural model was analyzed in Robot Structural Analysis software in two scenarios of the time history accelerograms considering also the P-Δ effect. The finite elements of the structure were defined as 1-D beam elements with hinged joints and limited axial stiffness previously obtained in past studies. The results showed a substantial increase in terms of displacements and stresses.

In the process of combustion, the air-fuel ratio is important for control strategies to reduce fuel economy and improve engine performance. Oxygen sensors are key elements in electronic fuel injection systems to indicate the oxygen content and send electrical signals to the electronic control unit. Starting with the first generation of oxygen sensors, which had limited applications, all automotive manufacturers now use wideband sensors to detect oxygen concentration with rapid reaction and linear output characteristics. Also, these new sensors provide accurate information for a wide range of air coefficients (λ = 0.65-2.4), improving combustion efficiency. In this paper, several types of narrowband and wideband sensors were analyzed, measuring the activation temperature for each sensor until a reliable signal was obtained.

The paper presents a method for analysis of planetary gear boxes in order to calculate the speed and torque of the epicyclic gear trains elements. Based on these findings, the power flow within the gear box is determined. Additionally, the mechanical efficiency is estimated in order to assess the overall efficiency of the transmission.

The use of alternative fuel may be a viable solution in order to ameliorate the engine performance especially in terms of pollutant emissions. Among the alternative fuels that can be use to fuel internal combustion engines hydrogen can be a viable alternative fuel especially due to the advantage of reducing the carbon emission at its use as alternative fuel even for partial substitution of classic fuel. Hydrogen has good combustion properties like higher Lower Heating Value, large inflammability limits, higher combustion speed, which may has a benefic influence on combustion process. The use of hydrogen to diesel engine bring few important issues that must be solved in order to assure the normal engine operation, starting with the fuelling system and engine with the control of the combustion process. The paper presents some results obtained during the theoretical modeling of the in-cylinder process at a diesel engine fuelled with classic fuel and hydrogen. The diesel fuel is energetically substituted by hydrogen in percent’s of 25% and 30%. The influences of hydrogen use on in-cylinder maximum pressure, maximum pressure rise rate, heat release rate, combustion temperature, indicated thermal efficiency and nitrogen oxides and smoke emission levels are shown and analyzed.

Cultural heritage is an important part of our life, a resource for the identity and the cohesion of communities. The paper aims to identify possible solutions for cultural heritage management of the archaeological sites and monuments from Dobrogea. The authors documented and researched above-ground archaeological structures, analysing their characteristics and suggesting solutions for conservation and promoting of archaeological heritage. The rapid development of digital technologies like augmented reality can help us finding cost-effective solutions for archaeology and cultural heritage tourism.

Over the last decades, the use of the alternative fuels was one of the main research activities for specialists in the field of internal combustion engines. The development of the modern automotive engines is constantly challenged by the more severe emission legislation. The engine emissions levels and the fuel efficiency are directly influenced by the engine operation, reproduction of the combustion phases from one cycle to other, cyclic dispersion during combustion process being important. In general, the use of alternative fuels in internal combustion engines provides an improvement of the energetic and pollution performance, or just a slight improvement of them, but the study of the combustion process must be completed with aspects regarding the cyclic variability. In particular, using this alternative fuel, a study of cyclic variation of the combustion process would be necessary in order to establish if the normal operation of the engine can be ensured. The paper presents some aspects of the analysis of the cyclic variability at a spark ignition engine fuelled with gasoline and hydrogen. During the engine operation at the regime of 2500 rev/min speed and 55% engine load, a number of 250 consecutive combustion cycles was recorded for classic fuel use and for hydrogen use. The coefficient of cyclic variation (CCV) or the coefficient of variation (COV) is determined for different combustion parameters such as maximum pressure, maximum pressure rise rate and mass fraction burned, defined by angles at which the conventional fractions of 10%, 50% and 90% of the heat of reaction is released. Thus, the values of the COV for maximum pressure (COV)pmax, maximum pressure rise rate (COV)dp/dα, angles of 10, 50 and 90% heat release as (COV)10%, (COV)50%and (COV)90%were calculated and compared with the admissible limit of 10%. The combustion variability analysis establishes the limits of the normal operation of the spark ignition engine fuelled with gasoline and hydrogen compared with the classic fuelling method.

Variable diameter pile foundations can be an efficient foundation solution used for special structures, mainly for the ones with increased heights. For economic efficiency in land use, especially in urban areas, there is a tendency to build very high constructions with very small footprint related to their height, which transmit large loads to the foundation soil. Based on these aspects, it is necessary to consider pile foundations in order to ensure the desired safety and stability requirements. The technologies for piles constructions evolved a lot and a main objective was to better use the interaction between the soil and the pile. From this point a view the paper presents a comparison between the bearing capacities of a constant diameter pile and a variable diameter pile, considering different soil conditions. All the calculations were performed using finite element analyses.

The tightening of the restrictions on polluting emissions in the last decade and the possibility of the disappearance of the internal combustion engine in the field of transport must motivate the researchers in the field of internal combustion engines to find new solutions to fuel the spark ignition engine, aiming to reduce the negative impact of polluting emissions on the environment. Unconventional fuels represent a very good choice to fuel the spark ignition engines, based on their excellent combustion properties and hydrogen stands out among them. This paper presents experimental results of fuelling a car spark ignition engine with mixtures of gasoline and hydrogen. The experimental investigations have shown an improvement in the combustion process of the engine, a reduction in the energetic fuel consumption, an increase in the brake thermal efficiency and a decrease in the pollutant emissions level.

The theory of elasticity is used in geotechnical engineering for the calculation of foundation settlement. The equation used in the evaluation of consolidation settlement uses the soil compressibility parameters which usually are determined on cylindrical soil specimens with ϕ 71.4 mm. Laboratory tests performed on soil specimens showed that the parameters that are used in foundation settlement analysis are influenced by the dimensions of the tested soil specimens and the shape of that specimen. The paper presents the influence of specimen size, shape and method used for the coefficient of consolidation evaluation on the final value of the foundation settlement. The analysis was performed using the Settle3 software from Rocsience, considering the case of an elastic foundation flexible square foundation (1.5 m × 1.5 m) which transmits to the ground a pressure of 100 kPa.

The paper investigates vibration testing methodologies for automotive tapered roller bearings. The European Union regulations have indirectly led to improvements in the NVH performance of the bearings that affect both the industrial and automotive markets. The goal of this study was to examine the influence of localized small defects on the vibrations’ magnitudes within tapered roller bearings. A Rockwell indenter was used to create three different surface defects. These three levels, representing different indentation pressures, mimic defects that could occur during manufacturing or bearing installation. Indents were placed on inner raceways, the outer raceways, and the roller bodies. After the assembly of the components, different vibration testing methodologies were applied to quantify those types of defects. This paper presents a new envelope analysis approach to monitoring for defects. The paper presents the current Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) testing approach, whereby the machine sensitivity is representative of a typical quality control bearing thresholds. This paper also presents a new, more robust method and analyzed for its suitability in the detection of localized defects.

Zeolites, in their natural state, have been used in construction materials since ancient times. The pozzolanic activity of zeolites and their use as supplementary cementitious materials has been investigated over the past three decades. The indoor comfort provided by a modern life style comes at a cost of consuming enormous amounts of energy. Materials with improved insulation properties are continuously researched and the use of zeolites showing encouraging results. The paper presents experimental results obtained on different cement-based mortar mixes incorporating natural zeolites. The main parameters of the research were: substitution of cement and sand by natural zeolites, three different replacement percentages for cement and sand (10%, 20% and 30%) and the curing age of mortar specimens (14 days, 21 days and 28 days). An artificial neural network (ANN) was developed to predict the values of the thermal conductivity by taking into account parameters such as density, humidity and surface temperature of the mortar samples. The ANN was able to accurately predict the experimental results for the thermal conductivity of cement-based mortars with natural zeolites.

In this paper, aspects of the study of the durability of rear suspension components of a vehicle are discussed. These aspects are addressed in two ways, namely the study by CAD modelling and finite element method simulation, and secondly by experimental analysis on a durability test bench. In order to develop these research problems, an experimental stand is virtually modelled and studied by simulation using ADAMS software. Results are obtained that characterize the operation of the test bench system kinematically and dynamically. The studies are then completed by finite element analysis of the dependent rear axle and helical springs in the suspension structure. These results are corroborated with those obtained experimentally, i.e. stresses and strains recorded on the stand. The usefulness of these studies is that they allow the validation of different components of the rear suspension in terms of fatigue strength and different types of rear axles from cars can be tested, as the stand has a modular construction and the test parameters can be adjusted.

Greenhouse gas emissions (G.H.G.) from vehicles are the main source of pollution. In this transition period from fossil fuels to the use of synthetic fuels, the diversification of alternative fuels used to fuel internal combustion engines is seen as one of the best alternatives for reducing G.H.G. In Europe, conforming to the stringent emission reduction targets for 2030, as well as trying to fulfil the regulations of the new Euro VII standard will force engine manufacturers to adopt alternative fuel solutions with a low environmental impact. However, fossil fuels will continue to be used but alternative fuels will substantially decrease our dependence on petroleum-derived fuels. Modern simulation software tools make it easy to produce a fairly accurate analysis of how an internal combustion engine works without the need for prototyping. Packages such as Ricardo WAVE or AVL Boost, are relatively cheap and represent accessible tools for developing, designing, and testing modern internal combustion engines. AVL Boost is a widely used engine simulation tool a 1D (one-dimensional) simulation software that allows engineers and researchers to model, simulate, and optimize various internal combustion engines, including spark ignition (SI) engines, diesel engines, and hybrid powertrains. The software also offers a high degree of flexibility in terms of alternative fuel blends. This paper evaluates the influences of using alcohol-based biofuels on performance metrics and pollutant emissions, such as brake power, brake thermal efficiency, and emissions, such as CO, CO2, and NOx in a spark ignition engine. The effects of varying alcohol fractions in the gasoline-alcohol blends on engine performance and emissions are analysed and explained. In this study, several types of ethanol in gasoline blends were simulated (E25, E50, E85). The one-dimensional model of the tested engine was developed based on the design dimensions of the 1.2L TCe H5FT engine produced by Renault. In the context of maintaining constant engine power output, the findings from the simulation results indicate that the utilization of alcohol-based blends with a high volumetric percentage of alcohol (ranging from 70-90%) can result in a substantial increase in fuel consumption, particularly in the case of methanol blends. Consequently, this phenomenon is associated with an elevated emission of carbon dioxide (CO2). However, it should be noted that despite this drawback, there is evidence of an inclination towards reduced emissions of other pollutants due to the enhanced combustion processes facilitated by the higher ratio of oxygenated compounds and a lower peak temperature. Methanol, one of the two alcohols investigated in this study, is not recommended for usage in fuel blends for several reasons. Firstly, the consumption rate of methanol is higher compared to ethanol, which can result in increased fuel usage. Secondly, methanol poses health risks due to its toxicity at certain levels, posing potential hazards in handling and utilization. Moreover, high concentrations of methanol are not easily miscible with gasoline without the addition of co-solvents, further limiting its feasibility as a viable fuel component.

With the increase the number of vehicles on European roads, the road transport has become the biggest source of air pollution in the cities of the old continent. According to European Commission estimates in 2018, more than 39% of NOx (nitrogen oxides) emissions and 10% of PM2.5 and PM10 emissions (mechanical particles with diameters of 2.5 and 10 micrometers) were attributed to road transport. It is known that, in order to limit to some extent, the uncontrolled increase in harmful emissions from road vehicles, the European Commission has gradually introduced new pollution standards to be met by manufacturers of new vehicles. In the second half of 2022, the Commission presented a new proposal to reduce pollutant emissions from new vehicles sold in the European Union (EU), defining the new Euro 7 pollution standards. Compared to Euro 6 by 2035, according to European Commission estimates, these new Euro 7 standards, together with a progressive increase in the number of electric vehicles sold, aim to reduce pollutant emissions from private vehicles and vans by around 35% for NOx emissions and around 13% for particulate emissions. Therefore, both the Euro 7 and CO2emissions standard (CAFE) for vehicles have been designed to improve air quality in cities and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, including by increasing the use of electric vehicles. Starting from this hypothesis, the first part of the paper presents the experimental model developed in the AMESim simulation platform of a mid-size vehicle equipped with a hybrid GMP, tested on a roller bench, which simulates pollutant emissions in this new Euro 7 standard. In the second part of the paper, the simulation results and possible causes influencing hybrid GMP behavior leading to the evolution of pollutant emissions are analyzed. Finally, the paper formulates conclusions on the evolution of pollutant emissions.

Considering growing energy requirements and the quest for self-sufficiency in energy sources, the utilization of waste-derived materials has surged in various fields of research in recent years. Within this framework, waste waters, sludge, or slurries, biodegradable substances, second-generation effluents, and the resulting by-products have emerged as crucial substrates of interest to produce biogas through anaerobic digestion (AD). The objective is to employ these materials as the foundation for generating renewable energy, ultimately establishing them as the primary energy source for households or industries. This paper endeavours to assess, both physically and chemically, the waste industrial and urban wastewaters sourced from west Banat region as a foundational substrate material for co-fermentation alongside residual biomass from cereals. The results obtained are presented.

This paper presents the influence on the levels from the well caption front Gherăeşti-Bacău, located on the right side of the Bistrița River, through the construction, on the right shore, of a 2.25 km long perimetral embankment, and a recreational lake with a surface of 3.18 hectares and average depth of 5.5 m (Figure 1). Through numerical modelling, using the modelling software of Visual Modflow aquifer, the influence on the hydrostatic level from drilled wells was determined, as well as the influence on the phreatic flow through the making of the recreational lake, which captures a part of the underground water. The use of the mathematical model allows the determination of the optimal parameters for an extraction from the aquifer known through classical methods. To achieve the mathematical model the method of filtration resistances was used, which is applied in the case of a sudden curvature of the streamlines (in the proximity of the imperfect permeable/impervious borders: channels, drains, well systems, screens), hence they are applied during pressure/level drops. This method allows the following equalizations: the imperfect wells can be considered as perfect; the lines of perfect/imperfect wells can be considered as perfect trenches (channels) with a flow equal to the sum of all wells; a stratified aquifer (up to 3 layers) can be equivaled with a homogenous one. Aspects regarding the flow were taken into consideration: with a free level or under pressure, the dimensioning of the model, the initial conditions of the aquifer layer, the lithostratigraphic characteristics, homogeneity, anisotropy, the transfer mechanisms in the domain’s interior, the studied hydrogeological structure was schematized, having done a monolayer model. The calibration of the model consists of adjusting, in reasonable conditions, of the domain data (the permeabilities), boundary conditions, so that through the running of the model and obtaining the corresponding piezometric lines and the obtained data will overlap the levels of the existing drillings.

3D printing is finding more and more applications in the industrial field and represents a modern additive manufacturing process based on a digital model. There are a number of advantages of additive manufacturing through 3D printing compared to classic manufacturing processes. Additive manufacturing through 3D printing allows material savings compared to classic manufacturing processes. Material consumption is punctual according to the project, without unnecessary losses and excess material. Through additive manufacturing, the design can be optimized in the sense that rapid changes can be made to the prototype in the CAD file. Also, through additive manufacturing through 3D printing, the principle of sustainability is promoted. We can say that additive manufacturing through 3D printing ensures rapid prototyping, which leads to the development of new products, shortens the design and manufacturing cycle, improves the quality and precision of models, eliminates costly mistakes, and optimizes the way of collaboration between engineers, marketing departments and sales and management team. In addition to these advantages, it must be seen if the 3D printed elements can replace the elements manufactured by classical methods in terms of mechanical resistance. In this sense, an investigation of some mechanical properties of some samples manufactured by 3D printing from various types of materials is required. The samples will be subjected to tension and bending. In this paper, only the tensile tests of some specimens, obtained by 3D printing in three positions: horizontal, vertical and in height, using three categories of printing filaments of the type: ABS+, PETG, PLA+, are presented. They have been made 5 samples for each material and printing direction, resulting in a total of 45 samples. The samples made from the three categories of material and in the three printing positions were subjected to tension until breaking. The formulas that were the basis of the tests are presented and graphs are drawn that represent the average characteristic curves of the samples for each category of material and printing guidelines.

Although the assembly by welding of aluminum alloys is a common assembly process, it is done in quite difficult conditions, being forced to take into account a number of shortcomings, such as: high thermal conductivity which translates into losses of high heat in the welding area; formation of aluminum oxide films that melt at high temperatures, well above the melting temperature of the alloy; large expansion coefficients that result in the appearance of large deformations, the appearance of cracks in the joint at high temperatures due to loss of mechanical strength of the alloy, but also the appearance of pores, inclusions of aluminum oxide and corrosion in various aggressive environments. Despite all these shortcomings that occur in welding, aluminum alloys can be joined indestructibly by welding. The present paper aims, is to make a comparative study, based on experimental data, of two welding assembly processes, one with gas flame and another with shielded inert gas environments-WIG, for aluminum alloys of group 6000. The base material will be presented, the preparation of the basic material for welding through the two mentioned welding procedures and the steps taken to make the welded joints. The comparative study will include the parameters of welding regimes, non-destructive defectoscopy methods with which certain discontinuities can be identified and the destructive mechanical tests. The experimental results will be able to lead to pertinent conclusions on the possibilities of aluminum alloys welding assembly, using those two welding processes mentioned above, the results being easily generalized in the industrial fields.
