In the field of paper conservation and archival research, identifying the raw materials of paper is important to elucidate its history and culture. As the most basic element of the raw materials for paper, fibers have not been sufficiently investigated. In this study, we propose a nondestructive method for estimating paper fibers from macro photographs ( $4000\times3000$ pixels) captured using a digital camera. The proposed method consists of background patch (500 pixels per side) detection (BPD), wherein background regions with no text are identified; patch fiber classification (PFC), wherein background patches obtained after BPD are analyzed for fiber classification; and paper fiber estimation (PFE), wherein macro images obtained after PFC are analyzed for fiber estimation. BPD and PFC are employed to perform patch-based classification on segmented macro images, which are reconstructed during PFE to obtain the final fiber estimation results. We performed experiments using 1337 macro images (64176 patches) to evaluate the fiber estimation accuracy for kozo, mitsumata, and gampi via three-fold cross-validation. The average fiber classification accuracy for patch images was observed to be 79.1%; accordingly, the average fiber estimation accuracy for macro images was 85.8%. Experimental results indicated that PFE can be realized in a nondestructive manner on macro images of paper captured using a digital camera.

In the era of Industry 4.0, digital transformation has spurred the swift advancement of technologies, including intelligent predictive maintenance scheduling, prognostics and health management. The accurate prediction of remaining useful life plays a crucial role in these technologies as it extends power equipment’s safe operational duration and decreases the maintenance costs associated with unforeseen shutdowns. Also, the increased accessibility of data for monitoring system conditions has paved the way for the more immense adoption of machine learning models in prognostics and health management for power transformers. At the moment, with the ever-increasing demand for electricity, there is a corresponding increase in the degradation processes of power transformers. Transformers insulation system and more importantly, the paper insulation happens to be the principal part where the degradation is prominent. Therefore, an accurate prediction of the insulating paper condition through its degree of polymerization is required to guarantee the reliability of power transformers. In this regard, the predictions, reliability, and health monitoring of this power equipment can be actualized by modeling the degradation of transformer insulation paper through several machine learning frameworks. In this view, this review paper has been drafted not only to serve as a guide for researchers interested in the fields of transformer insulation system fault prognosis but also to offer insights into potential research directions as existing literature in modeling and evaluating transformer paper insulation is presented.

Evaluating the long-term influence of academic papers in the early stage after publication is crucial for research management and decision-making. Although the total number of citations has been considered as a valid indicator to measure the academic influence of papers, there are still some bottleneck problems in predicting future citation counts. Firstly, it remains a challenging task to select the reasonable features due to the diversity of model features. Secondly, some prediction models are overly complex and their defects may cause prediction bias or even errors. Finally, the most important thing is that very few models possess long-term predictive ability. This paper proposes a prediction model that can provide an early evaluation of the long-term citations, or the long-term influence, of academic papers. The model uses features available immediately after publication or after a certain period of time. Taking academic papers in Information Science and Library Science as our experimental subject, we train the model using three machine learning algorithms and find that the artificial neural network performs satisfactorily. Our findings may offer guidance for research management and decision-making.

This research proposes an inkjet printed dual-band dual-sense circularly polarized antenna using CPW-feeding on PET substrate. The antenna is designed and optimized using ANSYS HFSS, which operates at 4.01 GHz - 5.05 GHz (22.96%) and 6.23 GHz - 7.58 GHz (19.55%) with a return loss of $0.44\lambda $ x $0.52\lambda $ x $0.002\lambda $ , where $\lambda $ is the free-space wavelength at the lowest circular polarization frequency. Measurement of the fabricated version shows good agreement with the simulated version. To the best of author’s knowledge, this proposed design is the first circularly polarized antenna integrating flexibility with dual-band and dual-sensing characteristics.

Deep learning has witnessed significant advancements in various tasks and has displayed exceptional performance. However, traditional deep learning techniques often necessitate the utilization of extensive labeled data for training, a requirement that is challenging to fulfill in many real-world scenarios. This limitation has given rise to the field of few-shot learning (FSL). In this paper, we introduce a Distribution Calibration Prototypical Network (DCPNet), aiming to address the limitations of prototypical networks in terms of their weak feature extraction capabilities and the inability of their classifier boundaries to align with the dataset. DCPNet incorporates a parallel hierarchical feature extraction module and a few-shot differentiation loss function to fine-tune the metric learning for better feature representation. This approach employs a parallel approach to extract features based on the semantic depth of image hierarchical extraction and incorporates contrastive learning to achieve feature vector fusion. Furthermore, DCPNet incorporates an improved distribution calibration method that leverages information from the base class dataset to align classifier boundaries with the dataset. To validate our approach, we conducted comparative experiments on datasets such as Mini-Imagenet, Omniglot, and CUB using classical baseline methods. In additional, we conducted ablation experiments on the Mini-Imagenet to assess the performance effectiveness of each component of the model. The results demonstrate that the proposed method presented in this paper outperforms other approaches and offer new insights into the field of few-shot image classification.

The increase in ${R} _{DUT}$ , the on-state resistance of power semiconductor devices, is used to estimate the remaining useful life (RUL) of the devices. Conventional online measurement of $R_{DUT}$ involves on-state voltage measurement of the on-state device, which is easily polluted by switching noise to limit the measurement accuracy. This paper proposes a new noise-robust method to measure the increment of $R_{DUT}$ by inductor current and input/output DC voltage of DC-DC converters. The proposed method features higher accuracy in predicting RUL than the conventional one because the inductor current is immune to switching noise. The aging of MOSFET is emulated in this paper by adding a series resistor $R_{ext}$ . Experiments showed that the resistance increment measured by the proposed method is up to 99.2% accurate to value of $R_{ext}$ .

The research paper concludes by offering insights into policy considerations, addressing research gaps, and outlining prospects for the seamless integration and advancement of these diverse wind energy systems. This comprehensive review aspires to contribute to the existing knowledge base in sustainable energy generation, fostering informed decision-making for a greener and more sustainable future.

Target detection technology in the field of machine vision plays a vital role in industrial production and manufacturing. In industrial production, productivity can be improved by accurate target detection. To implement this technology, many enterprises must manually clean and label a huge dataset. Meanwhile, it is a huge challenge for enterprises to obtain the dataset because of enterprise data privacy and security constraints. This paper proposes a method for rapidly generating synthetic samples based on digital twins to address this challenge. First, the virtual environment is utilized to replicate the real detecting environment, generating a variety of sample photos. The three-dimensional coordinates of the target object are then extracted in the virtual scene. Subsequently, an annotation method is designed for synthetic samples obtained from the virtual scene, utilizing principles of three-dimensional coordinate transformation and perspective coordinate transformation. This method efficiently produces numerous labeled samples with diverse annotations. Ultimately, the model performs detection tasks in the actual world using the synthetic samples as training data. The experimental results show that the synthetic samples created by this method based on digital twins can substitute real samples and effectively identify target objects during actual detection tasks. This paper proposes a unique strategy for synthetic samples that reduces sample collection costs and privacy risks, thereby addressing the limitations of machine vision detection technology induced by sample limitations.

This paper presents a comprehensive study on generating subjective inquiries for news media posts to empower public engagement with trending media topics. While previous studies primarily focused on factual and objective questions with explicit or implicit answers in the text, this research concentrates on automatically generating subjective questions to directly elicit personal preference from individuals based on a given text. The research methodology involves the application of fine-tuning techniques across multiple iterations of flan-T5 and GPT3 architectures for the task of Seq2Seq generation. This approach is meticulously evaluated using a custom dataset comprising 40,000 news articles along with human-generated questions. Furthermore, a comparative analysis is conducted using zero-shot prompting via GPT-3.5, juxtaposing the performance of fine-tuned models against a significantly larger language model. The study grapples with the inherent challenges tied to evaluating opinion-based question generation due to its subjective nature and the inherent uncertainty in determining answers. A thorough investigation and comparison of two transformer architectures are undertaken utilizing conventional lexical overlap metrics such as BLEU, ROUGE, and METEOR, alongside semantic similarity metrics encompassing BERTScore, BLEURT, and answerability scores such as QAScore, and RQUGE. The findings underscore the marked superiority of the flan-T5 model over GPT3, substantiated not only by quantitative metrics but also through human evaluations. The paper introduces Opinerium based on the open-source flan-T5-Large model, identified as the pacesetter in generating subjective questions. Additionally, we assessed all aforementioned metrics thoroughly by investigating the pairwise Spearman correlation analysis to identify robust metrics.

The rise in pollution levels, leading to the emission of greenhouse gas emissions and the subsequent phenomenon of global warming, is anticipated to stimulate the expansion of Electrical Vehicles (EVs). Consequently, EVs will establish a connection with the electrical grid within this timeframe. The implementation of this technology will significantly influence the voltage profiles and loads of grid components. The study centered on the modeling and analysis of the integration of renewable energy sources and EVs into a microgrid. The microgrid comprises four essential elements: a diesel generator functioning as the primary power supply, a combination of a Photovoltaic (PV) farm and a wind farm for generating electricity, and a Vehicle-to Grid (V2G) system positioned near the microgrid’s load. The continuous increase in their energy production rate makes microgrids important. Microgrids can be designed to meet the energy needs of different establishments, including hospitals, universities, and EVs charging stations, as well as the energy demands of a district, town, or industrial site. Charging stations are essential for the purpose of replenishing the battery of an EVs. This paper investigates the influence of EVs on the microgrid network. EVs integrate non-linear circuit components into their structures In addition, the modeling and analysis of the renewable energy sources and EVs integration into the microgrid has been presented. Also, this paper reviews the analysis of the microgrid with EVs using Matlab/Simulink.
