In the modern information-oriented society media plays a primary role in the process of delivering news to the public. In this connection many scholars warn about the danger of manipulating public opinion with the help of "information weapons". Usage of manipulative along with non-manipulative communication strategies and tactics is determined by the intention to achieve a certain communication target. Thus journalists commonly employ language means with various purposes, starting with creating an image of a public person and ending with captivating an audience and influencing addressees' emotions, views, values and behavior. The purpose of this paper is to investigate communication strategies and tactics in the description of the revolution in Libya and the characteristics of its leader Muammar Gaddafi by Russian, British and American print media and to analyze how they promote the creation of a certain view of events.
