This research provides innovative recycling methods of dredging sludges for a re-use in asphalt pavement. These waste material, removed from riverbed and harbor depth, is usually sent to landfill or treated with chemical, electrochemical or electrokinetic solidification and stabilization processes which include the removal and the management of the contaminants. So this study, to eliminate the issues related to waste management, addresses techniques based on the inclusion of sludge as fine aggregate in hot mix asphalt. Four different sludge/bitumen semifinished products are studied to prevent the environmental risks and to widen the geographical area of destination and the economical chance of use. In fact all the proposed techniques, leading the transformation of sludge in a semifinished product, can be performed immediately in the harbor or near the river so to avoid the management and the transport of this waste material, with economical and environmental advantages. Furthermore the effects of storage and transportation on the semifinished products are simulated and the outcomes confirm the feasibility of the methods. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
