Purpose: Due to the emergence of COVID -19, the transition from offline to online teaching also changes how drama techniques work. Specifically, the digital drama technique was used to teach English, when regular classes were almost impossible. There seems to be very little, if any, research on digital drama techniques, especially in the Vietnamese context. Consequently, this study examines how the digital drama technique affects Vietnamese students learning English as a foreign language (EFL). Additionally, the differences and similarities between teachers' and students' perceptions of the technique's impact are examined. Methodology: The study used a quantitative approach. A survey was used to collect data from 1207 students and 69 teachers. Findings: The survey revealed that the technique was helpful for EFL students' learning. The participants mostly perceived the positive impacts of the technique. However, differences in perception between teacher and student were discovered. The students considered it beneficial for improving their writing and reading skills while teachers perceived this technique as helpful in exploring new creative ideas. Practical implications: The technique was approved as useful for language teaching and learning. English teachers are encouraged to use this technique in their teaching in practice. Contribution to literature: The study becomes a good source for further research to build a more profound theoretical framework. In Latvian theatre, the last decade has been a time of significant changes regarding the working methods of independent theatre movements. Two of the oldest independent theatres in Riga - Dirty Deal Teatro and Ģertrūde Street Theatre - have become a centre for various theatre productions, therefore moving towards the model of state repertoire theatres. Meanwhile, in recent years, several new theatre companies and creative groups have appeared in the field. Theatre troupe KVADRIFRONS, formed by four young actors having just graduated from the Latvian Academy of Culture, as well as the theatre company esARTe, led by director and teacher Elmārs Seņkovs and the 'scandalous' young actors trained in the so-called puppet theatre course at the Latvian Academy of Culture, - these are just a few examples of the new creative formations in Latvian theatre. While in repertoire theatre the creative process mostly lies on the shoulders of the stage director, the aforementioned theatre companies highlight the importance of the actor as co-creator - both in the artistic (devised theatre methods), and the administrative process (actors as managers, etc.). Has the profession of actor changed from performer to administrator? How does the administrative status of the newly founded theatre companies influence the work of freelance actors? How has the status of the actor changed in today's society? The research tackles the topic of actor as co-creators focusing on the examples and experiences of new independent Latvian theatre companies and including significant social, as well as aesthetical aspects. IAS/IFRS represent a set of global accounting standards that have gained a tremendous influence over national standards, regulations and organisations all across the globe. Romania's argument for being an interesting research case is given mainly by its longer experience with the standards over other countries in the region. Through this study, my aim is to highlight the arguments in favour of IAS/IFRS over the national GAAP by conducting a survey, addressed to the employees of the biggest 7 accounting firms in Romania. This study described voice use and lifestyle information about student actors and assessed whether different information is reported at study intake compared to data extracted from a 3-week voice Log. Twenty-five student actors estimated 14 voice and life style parameters at the start of the study. These included daily speaking time, performance time, vocal warm-up, and cool-down time; intake of water, caffeine, and alcohol; perceived voice effort (speaking and performance), among other items. The same parameters were tracked by the actor for 21 consecutive days. Nonparametric statistical comparisons of the estimates at intake to the median estimate from 21 days were applied. Student actors reported frequent yelling (48%), frustration, anxiety, and depression about their voice (52%, 48%, and 16%), issues with breath support (56%), vocal fatigue (36%), and mild-moderate effort in the speaking (24%) and performance voice (70%). Estimates at study intake statistically overestimated daily speaking, performance, and vocal warm-up time compared to the 3-week Log. Intake reporting underestimated perceived effort in the speaking voice. Intake reporting of vocal fatigue and voice quality did not closely correspond to the Log data. Student actors reported a number of voice use and lifestyle behaviors that may increase their risk for voice problems. Additionally, the method of soliciting the history altered the information reported by the students for several parameters. The findings highlight the need to develop history gathering or other methods that optimize accuracy and reliability of the information sought. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Challenging interpretations of Leviathan that read its metaphors for sovereignty either as non-theoretical persuasive devices, like Skinner, or sites for the text's theoretical deconstruction, like Derrida, I argue that metaphor is conceptually integral to and productive of Hobbes's theory of sovereignty. Seeking to produce a political scientific account of this concept, Hobbes relies on a metaphorical understanding of language in which words are compared to mathematical signs and their logical manipulation is compared to quantitative analysis. Within such a theory of language, metaphor itself is defined as paradox, or the simultaneity of equivalence and nonequivalence. Hobbes's formulation of sovereignty is metaphorical, I demonstrate, not only insofar as it is dependent on a metaphorical conceptualization of language, but also insofar as it is paradoxical: constructing Hobbesian sovereignty demands a healthy dose of pride in humanity's creative ingenuity, yet sustaining it demands modest acknowledgement of human limitation. Hobbes theorizes sovereignty through a series of metaphors that in their imagistic content, and most importantly figurative form, articulate such contradiction. Where the metaphors of automaton and actor affirm the powers of human agency, the metaphorical sea serpent leviathan underscores human frailty by way of divine animality. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Urbanization is a global trend which is taking place at the costs of agricultural, forest, and other natural or semi-natural areas. As a result of urbanization, transitioning zones in urban peripheries located between urban and rural areas have a mixed character from a spatial, ecological, socio-demographic, and economic point of view. Different land use mixes and interests exist there in parallel and cause tensions and conflicts. In our research, we aimed at investigating the specific characteristics of conflicts in urban peripheries across Europe, showing striking examples and discussing possible recommendations for policy and planning addressing those conflicts. A structured literature review of 94 papers was conducted. The findings reflected a huge diversity in locations, contexts, and methods. Conflicts in urban peripheries in Europe is an interdisciplinary topic that is handled by social as well as natural sciences. We have identified four main conflict categories in urban peripheries: (a) land-use conflicts that relate to diverging interest in land use, (b) socio-economic conflicts that related to social aspects emerging between governance actors and different economic interests, (c) ethnic conflicts that related to race, religion, and custom, and (d) human-wildlife conflicts. The majority of papers were found in the category of land-use conflicts in urban peripheries. The main conflict topics in urban peripheries were related to socio-economic imbalances, house construction, and ethnic differences. Several types of governance actors and conflict topics could be assigned to each conflict category showing the variety in this context. A general recommendation to mitigate conflicts in urban peripheries could be a combination of various top-down and bottom-up policy and planning approaches, consulted and implemented by the governance actors who have been sensitized for the different viewpoints. • A structured literature review of 94 papers was conducted. • The conflict categories in urban peripheries were land-use, socio-economic, ethnic, and human-wildlife conflicts. • The majority of papers were found for land-use conflicts in urban peripheries. • Main conflict topics were related to socio-economic imbalances, house construction, and ethnic differences. • A combination of legal and participatory planning instruments are often important for conflict mitigation. It is important for young people studying and working in the hospitality/tourism field to help foster a sound society by avoiding norms and practices that harm humanity. This study explored biased perceptions of a moral rebel who speaks up for doing the right thing. The study examined differences in perceptions among actors and internal and external observers and between two contexts—the school (students) and the workplace (employees). Focusing on the perceptions of females, the study found differences inherent in their psychological mechanism according to whether they belonged to the same group (internal or external) and according to their context (student or employee). The study discusses the implications of these findings. • For students, a gap appeared between actors and observers. • For employees, the views of insiders differed from outsiders. • By students, the obedient other was more highly evaluated than the moral rebel. • By employees, the moral rebel was more highly evaluated than the obedient other. Current treatments for benign vocal lesions consist mainly voice therapy and phonomicrosurgery. However, these options are not always suitable for professional voice users because of their tight performance schedule and limited time for voice rest. This study investigated vocal fold steroid injection (VFSI) as an alternative treatment. Matched case series. We retrospectively enrolled 28 professional voice users (i.e., singers, actors and news anchors) who received VFSI for vocal nodules and polyps in an office setting of a tertiary teaching hospital. Outcomes were evaluated using videolaryngostroboscopy (VLS), the 10-item Voice Handicap Index (VHI-10), maximum phonation time, and acoustic and perceptual analyses before and 1 month after VFSI. Study results were compared with 56 patients of nonprofessional voice users (i.e., routine or high occupational vocal demands), matched in a 1:2 ratio by age, sex, and treatment date. After VFSI, VLS revealed substantial lesion resolution in 82% professional voice users. One professional voice user developed a self-limited vocal fold hematoma after VFSI. VHI-10 scores in the professional group decreased from 21 to 14 points, compared with 23 to 16 points in the non-professional group, demonstrating a significant within-group effect (P < 0.01, GEE) and a nonsignificant between-group effect (P = 0.86). Other outcomes also improved significantly after VFSI (P < 0.05), without significant differences between the two groups.
